Fire Service

I.A.F.F.

I began my career in the Fire Service when I was 18 year's old. I started by joining the Local volunteer Fire Department, Lincoln 1, Station 3, Thomasville Fire-EMS. That was on January 5th, 1995.
I joined mainly because a lot of my friend's in school were involved in their local Fire Departments and I became interested in it. I thought it would be cool to respond to Emergencies in the middle of the night.
In February I went to the local Fire School and began classes to become a Fire Fighter. It was there I found out that it was a lot of hard work, but I didn't mind because I thought it was still cool. It was also during that time that I became interested in EMS, which was to become my career.
By May I was finished with Fire School and was making plans on going to EMT school. I was very active on both the Fire and EMS aspect's of the Fire Service. It became an obsession to me and I put it before anything else in my life. I ended up losing a couple of relationship's to it as well, but at that point it didn’t matter to me.
In the Fall I began my EMT classes and also my last year of High School. I also became more active on the Ambulance. If there was an EMS call you could almost grantee I would be there. I loved running call's more than anything else in life!
Toward the last semester of school I became an EMT. I then got a job with the White Rose Ambulance Company which mainly did routine transport's for nursing home's but also provided EMS for York City. After graduation I went full time there as an EMT. I worked a lot there and put in as much overtime as I could. I didn't do it for the money, but for the experience that I could get. I eventually worked my way up to being on one of the ALS unit's there.
I then found a job that paid a little more at North York EMS. I started there in 1997 and grew to love that job because all I did was emergency call's. I was also told by my boss that when the Fire side got a call I was to get on an engine and respond with that. I loved it because I got to do everything that excited me. I stayed there until I enlisted in the U.S.ARMY.
I know that when my enlistment run's out that I am going to return there. I will only try for part time there now because I plan to also have a career in Law Enforcement, which is the whole reason why I joined the Military.
