Picking A Travel Team

With the dramatic increase in players playing travel ball, here is a guide for parents and players in choosing a travel team.

Coaching Staff:When looking at the travel team’s coaching staff you should look for what is the playing experience of the coaches. Have they played, college or professional baseball. What is their coaching experience? High School, College or Professional baseball. Most importantly can they teach and instruct players? Do players get better after playing for them? How well displine are the teams players?

Costs:What does it costs to play for the team? Many travel teams charge a team fee which can vary greatly anywhere’s from $500-2000. Travel, Meals and Motels costs can increase the costs greatly . Ask exactly what is covered and how much does it costs?

Schedule:Not only how many games do you play which can be from 50-70 games, What tournaments do they play in? How strong is the schedule? The Senior Fall Classic, WWBA National Championship 17U, WWBA National Championship 18U, and WWBA World Championship are the most heavily scouted tournaments for colleges and MLB Scouts.

Web Site: The teams web site can be vital for exposure for colleges and mlb scouts. Does the web site have the teams schedule and roster posted? Are there directions to the baseball fields listed? Is the teams pitching rotation posted? Is the player’s contact information (addresses & phones numbers) readily available to colleges and mlb scouts?

Playing at the next level: How good is the travel team at exposing players to colleges and mlb scouts? Is the team well scouted? What percentage of the players go on to play college or professional baseball?
