Chapter Eight

Nick knew from the second that he saw Elle that things, from that moment on, were going to be different. How, he wasn't sure, but as he watched how composed she was and saw how much beauty she contained, he knew that felt attracted to her. Moments later, the six people were seated at a long, rectangular table and the introductions began. When Scott Graves, the coordinator walked into the room, there was a domino effect of silence.

"Okay everyone," Scott started. "Calm down. Here is how the interview will go. In thirty minutes, that is 6:30, the camera will start recording. I suggest that all of you are ready by then. Elle, you are going to start by introducing yourself and then introduce each of members of the Backstreet Boys separately. Remember that Brian is just getting over a minor cold, so maybe, don't direct every question to him."

"I'll keep that in mind," Elle said as she gave Brian a sympathetic look. Brian smiled back.

"As for the Backstreet Boys, your basic job is the overall interview procedure. Answer Elle's questions, go to the phones and answer no more than 15 two-minute questions, then the "Wishes for Life" Foundation has asked us to allow two girls to meet you in-person. One is a 14 year old with cancer and the other is a 16 year old who was paralyzed in a boating accident. Is that okay?"

"That will be fine," Kevin answered.

"Okay, perfect. I will see all of you in 25 minutes. If you are one minute late, I will personally kick your butt," Scott warned as he got up to leave the room. "Until then, why don't you play the "Getting-to-Know-You Game."

When Scott had left the room, the six remaining people burst into unstoppable laughter. "All right," Elle said sarcastically. "Let's play." With that, more laughter started.

The five members of the Backstreet Boys combined with Elle seemed to get along really well together. Most of this chemistry was probably contributed to Brian's ability to make anyone laugh. Five minutes before the group was supposed to be out on the set, Elle's cell phone rang. "Sorry," she said as she pressed the TALK button on her phone.

"Elle Bradley, Jive Records New York."

"Hi Elle, it's Maranda. I am just calling to wish you good luck today."

"Thank you so much. I will need it. Trust me." Elle looked up just in time to catch Nick's glance in her direction. Her heart skipped a beat.

"You will do fine Elle, but what is this I hear about you loosing your loft?"

"How did you hear about me loosing my loft?" This question caused all five members of the BSB to look at Elle.

"Well, word gets around in the record business. I want details."

"To make a long story short, considering that I have two minutes before I have to be out on set, Carrie and I have to be out by Sunday." Elle said matter-of-factly.

"Carrie?" AJ mouthed to Nick. Nick answered by mouthing, "Sister" and smiling to himself.

"I am so sorry to hear that Elle. What are you going to do?" Maranda asked.

"Chain myself to my front door. Or you know, I was thinking about moving into that new complex on 50th and Apple."

"Okay, well, if you need anything Elle, I have a guest room over here."

"Thanks. Well, I should probably be getting out there. Thank you so much Maranda, for everything. I will call you at about 10:30 after I pick up Carrie."

"All right Elle. Bye."

Elle clicked her phone OFF. "Are you guys ready?" she asked.

"I was born ready," Nick said as he, along with AJ, Brian, Kevin, Howie, and Elle began walking out towards the MTV set.

"Oh really?" Elle asked playfully. "Are you sure about that Nick?"

"Oh yeah," Nick said. It was then that Nick realized that his feelings for Elle, that had been long forgotten, were beginning to resurface. "I'll talk to her after the show," he decided to himself.

When the group reached the set, they took their places and the interview began. Elle's questions ran smoothly, as usual, and so did the questions from the fans on the phone. Even the two girls from the "Wishes for Life" Foundation seemed to be having a great time. However, Elle couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong.
