Rachel scoffed and rolled her eyes. “Do they always get to have flirt-fest scenes?” She asked under her breath to Matt.
“It’s just a movie Rachel. Jesus.” Matt said, completely annoyed.
Rachel rolled her eyes again and looked away at Matt. This was the scene that she was going to impress Nick in the most. For years, she had been on the Jr. Ski Team back at home. Now, here was her chance to finally show up Ally.
“Okay,” Mike instructed as he handed a camera to one of the cameramen. “Everyone take your places…okay, action.”
Nick took off skiing and Ally followed close behind. “Nice try Sean,” she yelled playfully. She passed Nick with a spray of snow from underneath her skis. “Didja like that one?”
“It’s on Keri.” Nick yelled back. He began to ski faster to catch up with Ally.
Meanwhile, cameras rolling, Matt and Rachel were following each other’s paths. Rachel could feel the agression build inside of her as she watched Nick and Ally act out Sean and Keri.
Two hours later, the scene was finally over. “What time is it?” Ally asked to anyone who happened to be at the table.
“Two-thirty,” Matt answered.
“We have an hour and a half. Are you guys up for a couple of runs?” Ally suggested.
“I dunno.” Matt said. “I think I’m just gonna sit here and try and get the feeling back in my toes.”
“What about you two?” Ally asked looking over at Rachel and Nick.
Rachel looked over at Nick. “I’d love to,” Nick answered.
“Me too.” Rachel said. “Let’s go.” Before Ally and Nick could even stand up, Rachel was already out the door.
“She’s a little anxious.” Nick observed.
“Why do you think that is?” Ally asked sarcastically. “Hmm, you’re Nick Carter, her greatest obsession, and she has the chance to ski with him for an hour and a half. I know, I can’t see it either.”
“Shut up Ally.” Nick laughed. Moments later both he and Ally had met up with Rachel and were getting their skis on. It was decided that they would ski Indian Paint, a blue run known for it’s tree trails and then maybe head up to one of the few black runs in Big Bear for a chance at some moguls. They caught the four-person express lift to the top of Indian Paint and began skiing.
“Jesus Nick!” Ally screamed as Nick jokingly made a sharp turn in front of you. “How the hell did you have time to learn how to ski? Knowing your klutzyness, I can’t believe that you can even move on those things.”
“You’re funny Ally, you know that?” Nick said.
“You must be good at everything,” Rachel mused loudly to get Nick’s attention.
Nick pretended not to hear Rachel’s comment. He liked the fact that he was completely admired by her, but it just felt really weird. In a way, he wished that Ally would admire him in that way, but he quickly pushed that thought out of his mind. It would never happened. It seemed as though Ally just treated Nick like he was one of her brother’s.
“You alright there Carter?” Ally asked snapping Nick out of his state. “You just about nailed that kid back there.”
“Oh, yeah, I’m fine. I was just thinking about how bad I could wip you both if we were racing down this mountain.”
“Right,” Ally started. “Do you just wanna be a “winner” Nick?” Ally laughed.
“No,” Rachel started. “It sounds like a good idea. On the next run, let’s race.”
Ally could feel her competitive side spilling out and agreed to the race. From the second that Ally peered over the steep drop off cliff to the huge moguls below, she was determined to at least beat Rachel.
“All right.” Nick said, positioning himself for an easy start. “Let’s go.”
With that all three of them took of down the hill. In seconds, Nick was speeding past Rachel and Ally and taking first. Seeing this as an opportunity, Rachel began skiing closer and closer to Ally now that Nick was out of sight. Ally looked over at Rachel just in time for her to feel Rachel’s skis slam into her from the side.
“What the hell?” Ally yelled. Rachel inched Ally closer and closer towards the boundary line which, once the line was cross, dropped off into a maze of trees and rocks. “Rachel. STOP.” Ally yelled. But it was too late. Rachel curved in front of Ally and knocked her over the boundary line. The last thing Ally remembered before sinking into darkness was tumbling over the boundary line cliff.
“Hey Rach.” Nick said cheerfully. “Looks like I beat you both. Where’s Ally?”
“She’s behind me. She fell a while back.”
“Is she okay?” Nick said in a concerned tone.
“Yeah, she lost her ski. She said that she’d meet us back at the lodge before four in time for your shoot.”
“Okay,” Nick said, half-mindedly. He found Rachel’s words a little hard to believe as he increasingly felt like something was wrong. He searched the mountain with his eyes one last time before following Rachel back down to the lodge.
