Chapter Twenty-Seven

That following Monday was hectic. Monday's are always the hardest to get back into things. The guys were doing a sound check and were singing I Want it That Way.

Brian seemed really out of it. The night before he said he had to make a phone call. That was around three PM. He stayed in his room until today. When chorus came up he forgot to sing. The guys ignored it and kept singing. When his part came up again he sang but his voice gave out. Brian ended up throwing the microphone on the ground and ran off. Without thinking twice Nick went after him. I made my way over to the others. " Do you have any idea what's wrong?" I asked.

" No clue. He hasn't said a word to any of us. Not even Nick or Kev." Howie told me.

" I know usually when something is bothering him, he'll at least try to hide his feelings." Kevin said. "We talked for another fifteen minutes then Nick came back, alone.

"Is Brian all right?" A. J. asked walking closer

"I don't think so. I got up to him and before I could say anything he said 'don't, just don't Nick!' and walked away. Where he went, I don't know?"

I thought for a moment then spoke up. " I know where."

"Where?" Nick turned to me.

" Let me go try to talk to him, you guys finish up with sound check and we'll meet back at the hotel, the latest five."

" OK, be careful." He gave me a hug and a kiss. I had remembered that Brian said he found this nice spot near a creek and wished that there was one like that everywhere he went. I called a cab and went back to the hotel. From there I walked about two miles to the spot. Sure enough Brian was sitting on the hill. I walked over to him and sat down.

" This is a really great place Bri." He nodded his head. " Look I know, and the guys know t hat something is bothering you. What happened last night? We're worried about ya." Brian looked into my eyes then back out to the water.

" I called Leigh night. We were talking, things were going fine. Then she brought up something which I've been feeling for a while. Or should I say not feeling." I looked at Brian, tears threatened to fall from his big blue innocent eyes. "She told me that she wasn't feeling what we use to have. I told her I felt the same way. And she said how the love that once had just wasn't there. So we felt that the best thing to do was to break up. Almost five years of happiness. GONE!" He began crying and put his face in his hands.

" I'm so sorry Brian." I put my arms around him.

" I-I thought she was the one for me, I really did and now I've-shes-" He kept stuttering through his tears.

" Shh, its going to take a while for the pain to go away. But in time, it will. Nick, A.J., Kevin, Howie...myself, we'll all be here for you."

"Thank you so much." He gave me a hug. I looked at my watch and it was five-thirty.

" We should go. I told Nick we'd be back by five." He nodded his head and stood up. I took his hand in mine and we started on our way back to the hotel.
