Kevin poked his head into our bedroom, with Howie right behind him.
"God," Kevin said, "I hate to wake them up. They've been through so much."
"Yeah," Howie replied, "But Kris asked us to wake her up in a couple of hours."
"Let's try not to wake Brian, though," Kevin whispered.
"Too late," a voice mumbled from the bed.
Brian sat up, his clothes all ruffled, and his hair sticking up at strange angles. He looked down at Kristyn, and was pleased to see that she was still sleeping.
"I'm up," Brian said, "Let her sleep for a couple more hours. She needs it. Plus, I need to talk to Mike about the plan, and I really don't want her to hear that."
"No prob. We'll see you downstairs."
Brian got up from the bed, careful not to wake Kristyn, and walked over to the mirror. He looked at his tired face.
‘I hope this works,' he thought.
Walking downstairs, Brian got sympathetic glances from everyone. He reached the bottom, and walked into the kitchen, and got a glass of ice water. Mike walked over to him.
"Brian, we need to figure out the details of the plan."
"I know," Brian replied, "I know. Can we do it quickly? I wanna finish before Kris wakes up."
"Sure," Mike replied, and they got to work.
