"Mom, it's okay. I'm only going to Canada, not Guam. I"ll be back soon."
"Oh my baby!" she cried.
He looked up at her. "I love you mom . I'll miss you. I'll call you from the airport in Canada."
She waved to him as he walked down the driveway up to the doors of the limo. "I love you Nicky!"
Nick smiled then got into the limo with the other guys.
"You're really lucky Nick."said Brian as Nick sat down next to him in the limo.
"Why's that?"
He looked at Nick's family then back at him and said, "'Cause you got to say goodbye to your family."
"It's okay Brian, we'll be home in no time." Saying that, Nick put his arm around Brian in comfort as the limo slowly pulled out of the driveway.
"Everyone please fasten your seatbelts and listen to the safety instructions in the handout on the chairs in front of you." Explained the stwewardess.
"Yeah lady why don’t you tell me what I should do if we crash into another plane and my body parts are all twisted and…" During A.J.'s disaster, Howie quickly grabbed his barf bag and we'll you know what happened next.
"Ewwwww piggy! What did you eat for lunch Howie?" asked Brian in half laughter and half disgust.
"Sorry man. I won't mention it again." added A.J.
"Hey guys. How come Nick isn't sittin' by us?" asked Brian as he looked around the plane.
No one knew, then A.J. said that he probably must have been seated somewhere else in the back 'cause they couldn't put us all together.
"Hey there he is back there!" Kevin cried as he pointed to Nick who was sitting between an old woman and a little girl.
"Look kid, I didn’t take your Shoppin' Barbie!" Nick yelled to the little girl.
She was about seven years old with blonde hair. Her mother wasn’t on the plane. She was flying alone and her mother was going to meet her in the airport.
"I hate you!" she cried.
The stewardess came right over when she heard the girl crying.
"Wait a second now. This girl thinks I stole her Barbie and…"
Nick was interupted by the lady who asked, "Well, did you?"
"No!" cried Nick. He then looked over and saw the other boys sittin' about twelve rows up laughing at him hysterically. "Ouch!"
The girl started throwing her other toys at Nick. "You deserve it you big jerk!" she cried.
The old lady turned over in disgust and shouted, "You little bastard! Give her the Barbie back! Kids today." She added as she rolled her eyes and turned back to look out the window.
Nick was just absolutely frustrated when he spotted her Barbie on the floor in the row next to them. "Hey kid. There is your doll." he said as he pointed to it.
The stewardess picked it up and told them to buckle their seat belts and prepare for take off.
The girl turned to Nick with a smile. "I sowee."
Nick replied with a nod and then fastened his seat belt. "Here, let me help you."
"Can you sing me a song? My mummy always sings me a sleepy time song." said the little girl with adoring eyes.
As they began to take off, the girl began to cry. "Shhhh. I hate flying too. So, whats your name?" Nick asked.
"Je…Jessica." she wimpered.
"Sit back and relax Jessy. Okay?" Saying that, he bagan to sing a soft lullaby to the girl.
While this was happening, everyone heard Nick's soothing beautiful voice as he slowly put Jessy to sleep.
Oblivious to everyone watching, Nick tucked her in with the blanket she had on her lap. He looked up to find everyone was smiling at him and he turned bright red.
It was a long flight and it was finally time to land when Jessica woke up. When the plane stopped, Jessy looked at Nick and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
Flattered, Nick asked, "What was that for?"
"You a nice boy."
The stewardess quickly came over and escorted her off the plane and Nick blew her a kiss and said goodbye.
Brian quickly went back to see what happened. "Hey man, that was really sweet."
Nick smiled and almost had tears in his eyes. "That's what I want to do Brian. I want to make a difference in peoples' lives."he explained. "It don’t matter. I just want to make people smile. All the hard work is worth it when you make someone's day like that, ya know?"
Brian smiled back and admired this fourteen year old boy, who had just said the most beautiful thing he'd ever herd. The amazing thing was that he said what was in his and Brian's heart.
Some kind of bond or link was formed in that moment between the two boys on the plane that day and they both would never forget it.
