Chapter Five

Months went by as the boys became well known around the Orlando area and other parts of Florida. They worked hard and well together with a sort of magic you might say. This still wasn’t enough though. What they needd was recognition from the right people in the right places. Luckily, there was a turning point for the Backstreet Boys that opened up a whole line of possibilities for the five guys.

"Let's get it together Backstreet!" cried Brian with excitement.

The Boys had a major gig at the Magic Kingdom, which held an annual talent show. A lot of new talent was spotted here over the years. It was known all over Florida and was ususally sold out.

"God give us strength to Rock this party! We are thankful that we have this chance and we'll give it all we got." said Brian as he held the cross around his neck in his hand.

"Amen."the boys responded, then they were off.

"Hello Magic Kingdom! We are the Backstreet Boys and we got a little somethin' to say!" said Howie. "Kick it Bri!"

"Yes I understand that, but just listen to them in action!" Lou cried as he held the phone out towards the stage so management could here their sweet harmony. Things would never be the same again. "Yeah, that was hot guys!" cried Nick as they all ran in from the stage.

Lou came running toward them in excitement. "That's not all that's hot Nicky!"

They all looked at each other in confusion.

"We got management boys and management is gonna get us a record label!" cried Lou with enthusiasm.

" I told you Kev.! I told you!" Brian cried as he hugged his cousin.

Hard work was in store for the boys, but they didn’t mind. Donna and Johnny Wright of Right Stuff Management met with the boys and gave them all songs to learn.

"If we're gonna get a record company, we've got to have songs to sell. Okay boys?" explained Donna.

They knew what they had to do so they went straight to work. Rehearsals lasted anywhere from six to twelve pm at night. Breaks consisted of eating three meals and that was all. Usually, they would rehearse in A.J., Howie, or Nick's basement. Occasionally they would rehearse either in an airplane hanger or Kevin's apartment.

"A.J., you are too low. Take it up a notch!"

A.j. looked at Howie in disgust. "Exsuse me mr. High pitch falsetto man? Why don’t you go chirp up in a tree where you can't break any windows!" cried A.J. in anger.

It had been a long week filled with long hours and it finally cuaght up with them.

"Hey, Hey come on guys. There will be none of that. Come on fellas." Said Kevin trying to keep the situation under control.

"It's my house and I want you out A.J.!" cried Howie.

"What?!" A.j. asked in anger.

Brian leaned over to Nick and asked, "Do they always fight like this?"

Nick shook his head no. "No way. I've never seen this before. It's gotta be stress."

Kevin needed to be the adult and stop this before it went too far. "Guys come on! We have an appointment with Jive Records in an hour. Now can we please keep it together until then. I know you both are stressed, but put it aside for the group. It's been a rough week for all of us." Kevin said trying to calm things down.

Howie turned to A.J. in forgiveness. "Hey I'm sorry Bone, I shouldn't have told you how to sing and…"

"No, I lost it Howie man. I snapped okay?" A.J. interupted. "Friends?"

"Friends." Howie said, then they hugged and got back to work.

Jam on 'cause Backstreet's got it
Come on now everybody
We've got it goin' on for years
We've got it goin' on-

With that, the boys signed with Jive Records in the Spring of '93. They decided to kick things off in the U.S. with the single ' We've Got it Goin' On'. Unfortunately, it was a bomb in the United States. Decisions had to be made on behalf of the future of the Backstreet Boys and fast.
