Sunday was an important day for the Littrells. Brain's mother was very religious, so church was a way of life for him. Mrs Lttrell had her reasons for her strong beliefs. Brian too believed what he did for reasons only known by the people close to him. "Ready Honey?" she said waiting anxiously to talk to the minister about funding for the church.
The church that the Littrells attended was an old fashioned Catholic Church which was built when Lexington was just beginning.
"Brothers and Sisters." said the Father Tom. "Let us pray."
"Amen." they replied to him.
"My friends, let us give our attention to our chior led by Sister Elizabeth." said the Father as he pointed to the stage in the front of the church.
As the choir was singing one of Mrs.Littrell's neighbors struck up a conversation with her. "You know your son looks so comfortable up there. He steals the show Jackie."
"Why thank you Patty, Im sure Brian would appreciate that comment." she said not really understanding what she meant.
Maybe Brian was singing with more intensity or maybe his mother for once saw what everybody else saw, but for some reason she took a closer look at her son up on stage and witnessed the magic in his eyes.
Later that day Brian was shooting some hoops when his buddies came by. Of course a B-ball game arroused from this, but then again it always did. Ever since they were kids they challenged each other in sports. "I can't believe winter break is over after today B-rok." Tom said with a frown.
"Well I can't believe our last week's playoff game againist the Devils was our last high school B-ball game."
"Jimmy, why must you be so depressing? Basketball is a part of me and that's never gonna change. Not for me anyway." Brian said trying to keep the b-ball close to his heart.
The game continued until the janitor came in and kicked them out.
"Oh no guys. I gotta run!" Brian said as he turned towards the main entrance of the high school.
"Your woman beckons you, huh? Hey you need a ride to school tomorrow man?"
"Yeah Jim. Thanks!"
Mrs. Litrell had just set the table as Brian came charging through the front door.
'Hey baby duck. Where's the fire?"
"Mom, did Judy call or come by?"
She had no idea what he was all worked up about, but she told him that Judy hadn't called. "Sorry honey."
Brian rushed up to his room and quickly tossed his b-ball under his bed. He was suppose to meet Judy, his girlfriend for almost two years now, at the mall to shop for a dress for her Aunt's bridal shower in two weeks.
"Hello. Willis residence."
"Hey Mrs. Willis. Is Judy there?"
There was a brief pause as if Judy's mother knew that her daughter was upset with Brian. "No honey. I'm sorry she's not."
At this point he knew that she was furious with him. "Well can you tell her that I called and that I'll try back later please?"
"Sure darlin'. Bye."
