While in Florence...

T-minus days and counting!

We found some hotels near the city center for you to consider.  We shied away from the major chains and picked some unique hotels that offered a true taste of Florence.  And most importantly, these hotels have a bathroom in each room! The rates for these are comparable to the major hotels.  Unfortunately, hotels in Florence enjoy steady business year-round and based on the ones we checked with, group discounts are more the exception than the rule.

The Morandi alla Crocetta  is at the edge of the city.  Built from a monastery, it only has 10 rooms but all are furnished w/antiques -- one of the rooms even has remnants of a fresco from back when it used to be a monastery.
The Hermitage sounds really cool!  It overlooks the Ponte Vecchio and is very conveniently located.  Their website has great pictures showing off the view from their rooftop terrace.
Though not as nice, the Hotel La Gioconda might be worth considering;  after all, Mona Lisa (aka la Gioconda) slept here!  In 1913, the Mona Lisa was recovered in this hotel after it was stolen from the Louvre.  It's also close to the train station, for those who have plans on taking the train to Rome, Pisa, or Milan.
In the shadow of the Duomo is the Hotel Brunelleschi.  Pricy. But nice!
If money is no object, check out The Helvetia e Bristol.  Choose the English language version of the site and navigate to Europe, then Italy, then Mid Italy and finally Florence.

For those of you who have similar itineraries and want to stay together as a group, you may want to discuss among yourselves and figure out if you'd like to rent a villa or an apartment in the city.  If split among enough people, this arrangement could be more economical while at the same time offer a great way to experience living in Florence. The downside to staying at a villa is that you'll most likely need a car to get around because these villas are usually located outside the city center.
