This bedroom was in pretty rough shape when we bought the house. The walls in the bedrooms are not the heavy, textured stucco of the other rooms and in this room, the plaster had suffered quite a bit of damage from a gutter that was not draining properly. The water seeping into the wall and remaining in the concrete block attracted tree roots, so that when we removed the plaster, the concrete beneath was covered in a tangle of roots.

The paint color was originally a vivid melon orange, a bit much for our taste. We also added a ceiling fan in this room. We managed to salvage the old casement windows, the only ones like this in the house. This is also the only room that does not have the triangular pedement over the windows, but instead has deep, wide sills that remind me very much of something in the Southwest. |
