Welcome to Education News
Welcome to the first edition of Education News. Designed as a monthly news- letter for teachers in grades 1-4, our emphasis will be on curriculum and technology.
In this edition we have an interview with Fran Gallagher, the Coordinator of Curriculum and Technology for the elementary schools in Fairfax, Virginia, a school district that has always been on the cutting edge of innovation. Fran gives us some interesting facts about the development of technology in the elementary schools and information about the school district's "Tech Plan".
Regular features will include the Ask Miss Dowd page where you can ask questions about curriculum and technology, and the Great Places to Go on the Web page.
We hope you will enjoy the newsletter and share your ideas with us so we can all grow in knowledge and understanding.

Teachers Race to Catch Up with TechnologyIt's getting harder and harder to teach these days. It seems the curriculum gets fuller, the student competency testing is demanding more attention from teachers, and now the need to use technology in the classroom has teachers racing to catch up.
Competency requirements for teachers are being hammered out at state levels as we write and basically all teachers will be required in the near future to be proficient with the following:
- word processing
- e-mail
- data base
- spread sheet
- browser
- multimedia presentation
How are you coping?
