Chapter 65

~*~Tracy’s point of view~*~
“Why didn’t Erin want to come on the boat ride?” I asked Heather and Nick, as Nick drove towards the center of the lake. I put on my sweater. It was getting colder.
“I didn’t ask her. Brian wanted to surprise her,” Nick answered.
“It’s so cool that you and him could come! It’s been too long,” I told him.
“Yeah,” he agreed, exchanging a look with Heather. “AJ’s cousin actually owns a house on the other side of the lake, which is where Brian and I stayed last night. So I just made some calls and had them put my boat over at his dock so I could take all of you out on some rides today, since it’s too cold to swim.”
“Did AJ come, too? Why didn’t he come with you guys?”
“He and Amy wanted to spend some time together.”
I nodded, and took in the scenery. Some of the lake houses had put up some Christmas lights. A few even had Christmas trees in the windows. I could just make them out in the distance. Another boat was out on the lake nearby. Some kids were playing tag on the shore.
“Nick, where’s the bottle of Pepsi?” Heather asked.
“Oh, downstairs in the fridge,” he answered. “Can you check underneath that seat over there? I need the key to open up a compartment in the front to check something.”
“Sure. Tracy, can you go get the Pepsi and some cups?”
“Sure,” I went downstairs to the cabin and turned on the lights.

It was a fair sized boat. I entered into a small area with a booth and table for eating, a counter, some cabinets, and a fridge. There was a walkie talkie on the table.
“Nick, why am I not surprised,” I laughed. I started to open the refridgerator when I heard someone behind me. I slowly turned around.
“Man, Nick, can you turn off the lights? I told you I wanted to get some sleep!”
I couldn’t believe my eyes.
“Tracy?” he asked, sounding genuinely surprised.
“What are you doing here?” I heard something on the boat moving, but ignored it. “I’m going to kill them!”
I ran back to the deck. “Nick, Heather!...”

They weren’t on the deck. I turned to see another boat nearby. Heather and Nick were standing with Amy and AJ.
“What’s going on?” I demanded.
“What?” Heather asked sweetly.
“We wanted you and Kevin to have some quality time together for the holidays,” AJ flashed a sly smile.
“Not on your life! Where are you going? Who’s going to drive the boat back to the shore?” I asked Nick.
“I will. But not until you and Kevin work things out. You have to, because there’s nothing else you can do. The waters to cold for you to swim, unless you want the same fate as Leonardo Dicaprio in Titanic. The anchor’s dropped and the controls are locked,” he held up a set of keys.
“I’ll call the coast guard or something…”
“The phone’s disconnected. The only way you have to contact anyone is through the walkie talkie,” she held up its match. “Don’t bother contacting us until you and Kevin have reunited,” Heather said.
“That’ll never happen!” I promised.
“Then you’ll never get out of that boat,” Amy said, as their boat departed.
“What! You can’t leave me here!” I shouted. But they were long gone. I turned around to see Kevin there. He had heard all of it.
“Look, I just want you to know that I had nothing to do with this,” Kevin said.
“Whatever,” I rolled my eyes. “We’ll just tell them that everything’s fine,” I went downstairs and turned on the walkie talkie. “Heather? Nick? Anyone there?”
“AJ here.”
“Look, you guys were right. We just needed to talk things out. Things are fine. Thanks so much, we’re back together.”
“Its been two minutes. There’s no way you’ve even spoken to him yet. You’re too stubborn. But you gotta crack sometime. Chao.” He turned it off.
“Unbelievable!” I threw it down. Kevin was standing in the doorway, silently.
‘This is going to be a long day,’ I thought.
