It turns out, Nick and Brian’s room also contains a Super Nintendo, so I was temporarily without a boyfriend until the power failed or the system just burned out. I walked downstairs to the rec room. AJ was teaching Amy how to play pool. Howie and Jennifer were watching.
“Do you want to see a movie tonight?” Howie asked her.
“Not really,” she declined.
“How about dinner?”
“I’m not hungry,” Jen responded.
“I am, let’s go to McDonald’s,” AJ joined in the conversation.
“There’s a surprise,” Amy faked a shocked look. “Let’s go eat. But Not to McDonald’s, you drag me there enough. There’s only so much you can take.”
“Pizza?” I suggested, making my presence in the room known.
“Better than burgers,” Amy agreed.
“I still say Mickey D’s,” AJ claimed.
“Pizza. Majority rules, sorry Bone.” Howie smiled an innocent smile.
“Alright fine. No one cares who’s house we’re in. Who the kind-hearted owner is letting everyone stay in it.”
“Your right,” I laughed.
“ ‘Your right’” he mocked me in a baby voice. “Tell everyone who’s coming to be ready and down here in 10 minutes. I'm starving.”
“Ay ay, captain,” I departed. “Frick, Frack, we’re getting pizza for dinner, coming?” I asked, once upstairs.
“Pizza?” Nick actually looked away from the precious screen and paused the game.
“You quit, you lose,” Brian said simply.
Nick considered both options. “Save me a piece, will you?” He turned his attention back to the game.
I went to the next room. “Pizza for dinner, coming?”
“Sure. I was expecting McDonalds,” Heather laughed.
“AJ was outruled,” I explained.
Tracy got up. “Is Kev coming?”
“I don’t know, I haven’t asked him yet. So far, its us three, Howie, Amy, and AJ. AJ says to be ready and downstairs in 10 minutes… well, now your down to 5,” I told them.
I found Kevin in the kitchen, and presented his option.
“Who’s going?”
“Basically everyone but Jennifer.” I deliberately left out Nick and Brian. I wasn’t yet sure why. It was just an instinct.
He thought for a moment. “I think I’m gonna stay here. Have fun.”
I had been expecting that answer. Maybe he and Jen would both work out whatever their problem was and then Tracy would feel better and so would Howie. Maybe. Or maybe not.
