Chapter 15

~A few days later~ ~Brian’s point of view~

We had just gotton back from the beach. It was almost dinnertime, so we ordered a pizza, requested by Nick since it’s his favortie food. Amy, AJ, Tracy, Howie and Heather went inside to watch some TV while they ate. The rest of us sat at the picnic table. I sat next to Jen.
“Having a good week?” I asked her.
“Oh, yeah, it’s been a blast!” she smiled. “Just sad that it’ll be over soon!” she added.

She was right, only a few days left. ‘Better ask her out soon,’ I reminded myself.
“What are we doing tonight?” Erin asked.
“I’ll hopefully have a date!” Kevin smiled.
“Oh yeah? With who?” Erin interrogated.
“None of your business!” he said matter-of-factly, but with a grin.
“Fine! Its not like we all won’t find out anyways.” Erin laughed.
“I’m stuffed. I’m gonna go ask the girl.” Kevin said.
“Yeah, the asking out part is kinda crucial for a date! Duh” I said.
“I better clean all this junk up.” Erin said. “We need to buy paper plates or you all need to wash your own dishes!” she complained, as she walked into the kitchen. It was only Nick, Jen and I left at the table. It would have been better if we were alone, but with ten people that was hard and besides, Nick was the one who told me.
“So Jen what are you doing tonight?” I asked.
“I don’t really know yet. Might be going to the movies. Why?”
“Well, I was wondering if you wanted to maybe go out or something sometime.” I gushed.
Nick’s eyes went wide. ‘Whats his problem?’ I wondered.
“Oh, do you mean, like on a date?” Jennifer asked me.
“Yep, that’s the gyst of it.” I replied.
“Brian, that’s sweet of you and everything, but I kinda like Howie, that’s why we’re going to the movies tonight…” Jen said quietly. “Sorry!”
“Oh, okay. I mean, that’s okay. Have fun with Howie.”
“Thanks.” She said. There was a ghostly silence for a minute. “Well I’m going to put my dishes up..” I watched her head for the doorway. Erin was standing there silent and surprised. As soon as we made eye contant, she quickly looked away and went back inside. What was wrong with her all of a sudden?
“What’s you problem? Why’d you ask her out?”Nick asked.
“What? You were the one that told me she liked me and that I should!”
“No I didn’t!” Nick shot back.
“Yeah, you said someone who used to like me still did or whatever. That’s Jen. Thanks a lot for lying! I just tried to hit on Howie’s girl without knowing it!”
“Oh man…” he looked as if he’d just figured something out. “I didn’t mean Jen, I meant Erin! Duh!”
“What? She never liked me.”
“Yeah she did. Started to not too long after you started going out with Jen.” Nick explained.
“Why didn’t she ever tell me?”
“She tried, but then you got the offer to be in the Backstreet Boys, so she backed out of it. Figured it was too late or didn’t want you to miss the opportunity or somin..”
“Oh, no. She was here when I asked Jen out, wasn’t she?” I hit myself in the forehead.
“Bingo, Jonny tell him what he’s won!” Nick did a host of a game show voice. “So what are you going to do?”
“I don’t know, probably need to talk to her.”
“Just remember tomorrow’s our last full day. Although, you know how Amy’s been going on tour with us? Well after we have next week of to go home and visit our families, Howie and Kevin have been talking about asking Jen and Tracy if they wanna come to the video shoot. I’ve been thinking the same for Heather. So maybe if you get things worked out you can invite Erin.”
