On April 24, Longwood's
trademark Rotunda, along with the East and West Ruffner and most of Grainger,
was destroyed in the third major fire in the college's history. In addition
to being of sentimental value to Longwood, Ruffner, formerly known
as Professional Hall, was the location of Sigma Sigma Sigma's founding.
For more on the fire and the aftermath, go to Longwood
College for more information.
First NPC sorority with
a chapter in Alaska and now the first overseas! The Alpha Chapter would
like to welcome our newest chapter, EM,
located at the University of Maryland, Manheim, Germany Campus.
A Founders Day/State
Day celebration was held on Longwood's campus the weekend of April 22.
Organized by Carrie Fowler (Alpha), sisters from Epsilon Sigma and Zeta
Pi joined Alpha in celebrating the 104th birthday of our sorority. Penny
Robertson, National Alumnae Vice-President, was the keynote speaker. In
addition to a luncheon and ceremony, tours of Longwood College's Sigma
landmarks were offered and many guests enjoyed shopping at Red Fronts,
our Farmville greek trader.
Digital images of scrapbooks,
telegrams, photographs, and memorabelia, some
dating
from early 1910's, are now available for viewing online. The initial project
was undertaken in Spring 2000 by Rebbecca and Alicia Bennett (Alpha) for
Archival Management class. In addition to restoring, organizing, and cleaning
the scrapbooks, the two educated the chapter on caring for our memorabelia
and enlisted help in creating a digital archive. This project will
eventually showcase images of our chapter from founding to the present.
See our archives
and pictures page for more information.
As always, check out Tri-Sigma at Longwood for more on our chapter!
