Chapter 8

Nick and myself were still sleeping in each other’s arms. Nick snoring awakened me. I was going to wake him up, but the light from the moon made him look so angelic, I didn’t have the heart to wake him. So instead, I sat there and stared at him adoringly. All at once, Nick stirred, smiled and mumbled “I love you Yvonne”. As I heard those words, I felt tears well up in my eyes, “I love you too Nick”. It was then that I realized I had to be with him for life. It was one of those feelings you can’t explain, but only felt it. I rested my head on his chest and wrapped my arms around him, as did Nick.

“That was great AJ, thanks for such a great time.” Leighann grinned.

“Well, don’t thank me, I should be thanking you.”

“Are you ready to go home? It’s getting late.”

“Not yet, let’s go dancing, we don’t have to be back too early, we are staying with you guys you know.”

“I know, sure, let’s go.”

AJ got up and helped Leighann out of her chair and led her to the car.

“This time, I drive. I want to take you someplace special, just let me check something.”

“Sure.” Leighann said getting in the car.

AJ shut the door and went and went to the trunk to check and see if Nick had put the stereo in it like he asked, which he did.

“What did you need in the trunk?” Leighann asked as AJ got in and started the car.

“You’ll see, here put this on.” He said, handing her a handkerchief.

“What’s this for?”

“It’s a blind fold silly, now put it on or it’ll ruin the surprise.”

“Oh alright.” She said as she tied the handkerchief around her head so she couldn’t see anything but darkness.

AJ drove in silence down the road to the park he had passed on the way to Leighann’s house the day before. It was supposed to have a spot that was lit by moonlight only. A perfect place for a slow, romantic dance.

As he pulled the car to a stop, he instructed her to stay put until he came back to get her. He got out and set the stereo on the bench and set the CD to the song. He had chosen “No One Else Comes Close” to dance to and a few others. He planned on singing this one to her as they danced. He went back to the car and got her. He guided her to the spot and pushed play on the player. She removed the handkerchief to see AJ with an outstretched hand and a grin.

“May I have this dance?”

“You sure can!”

As they danced, AJ softly sang to her. As he did, she began to cry and sing back to him. He was caught a bit off guard by her singing to him, but kept dancing and singing. As the song ended, he stepped away and smiled. They both began to speak at the same time.

“I want to tell...”

“You are so...” Leighann said as both of them laughed.

“You go first.” He said.

“You.”

“Okay I want to tell you that the song says a lot about what I feel for you.” AJ said.

“Aww, you are so sweet. I never imagined I’d feel this way about anyone in my life. I can’t explain it but I feel it.”

“Well, let’s go somewhere and talk about it, just let me put the stereo back in the car.”

As AJ shut the trunk, he pocketed the keys and grabbed Leighann’s hand. As their fingers entwined, she felt like she was in heaven.
