Joey's provides the drumming and backbone for From Within. Here is some more of the story......
Upon meeting Yancy Lambert in early 1997, it was clear that Joey was to be the future and permanent drummer of the evolving band, 'Beyond Maggie's Domain'. After a slight bit of persuasion, Joey decided to take up the offer Yancy made to jam with his group (which he is really glad he did!!!). The rest was musical history! After those first few practices, Joey saw that this was the band he had been searching for since he first started playing the drums. From Within was officially born!!!
My musical influences for the drums contain a wide variety of players. My biggest musical influence is Mike Portnoy for simply being amazing! Others on my list are: Dave Lombardo, Igor Cavalera, Brian Craig, Hellhammer, Lars Ulrich when he had a sack, Vinnie Paul, Paul Bostaph, Charlie Bennante, Gene Hoglan, Mark Prator, Ken Owen.....you get the picture! Other musicians who are influential to me are Perry Grayson, Older Max Cavalera stuff, Jon Schaefer, Jordan Rudess, John Petrucci and most importantly, Yancy, Jay and Bill for tolerating me and being incredible musicians!
I play Pearl Export drums (Alpine Green Finish) and Sabian Cymbals (AA series or better) exclusively. I also use Pro-Mark 5B Japanese Oak sticks with nylon tips, two Tama Iron Cobra kick pedals, Remo Pinstripe heads and Dan-Mar Kick beaters for that Sloppy José Snap! Also, I have several Latin Percussion line accessories.
