LET THE FUN BEGIN!

Well...bellies are full...packs are lightened...energy is restored...and now it's time for the REAL adventure!!!

Once again, this is more steep than it looks. Cherri and I were the first to try out the hiney traction here...we simply sat down and slid. In the fetigues that we were wearing it worked quite nicely. I actually went first and then Cherri...and she almost went into the pool of water you can see on my right but I caught her in time. So in this picture I am instructing Norm to point himself farther left because it is a mere foot ledge to a gravel dry-bottom. He did pretty good...but this is where Heather obtained her first tear in those swim shorts. Poor thing...lucky it didn't get her bum.

Now this was our first experience with logs, but as you will see, we encountered them several times along the way...and many of them were a blessing. All we had to do here was stand on it and climb for the top, no biggy.

OUR FIRST VIEW OF REAL WATER!!! Ok...that last pool we were at was just nasty, but this one really wasn't too bad and Cherri and I were dying to get our feet wet. We are standing in the deepest part and this was a small stationary pool...we were the only ones to walk through this pool because everyone else found a way around. Little did we know that we were in for ALOT more of where that came from!

~After walking through the water I kind of figured that going back into the sand would cause sandpaper syndrome...not only that but I kind of figured it would not be long before we would be in and out of more water, so at this point I took off my wanna-be Tiva's and exchanged them for an excellent pair of water shoes that I rented for $16.00 from Zion Adventure Company. They turned out to be a really great thing to have...Heather and Michelle and I were the only ones that rented the shoes...but out of the seven of us, our feet were in far better shape than anyone elses by the end of the day. They had these ankle high socks that are made out of a wet-suit type material so this kept our feet dry for the first while and kept the sand out...the whole time! Not only that but they dried fast so there was no water rash either. The shoes themselves were very breathable and had great ankle support as well as amazing traction. There were times that the three of us were walking carelessly down a path of slick-rock as the water flowed around us...and didn't slip one bit! At times we even climbed up the side of the sloping canyon walls a bit with them and then slid back down on our bums just for the fun of it! We also rented our rope at the same place...it's the place to go for all canyoneering needs.
