Well, before long we hit the first obstical in what all the books referred to as the "obstical course." This one is called "The Great Slide," it's been named that because at one point a gigantic slide happened in the upper canyons sending massive boulders into the narrow canyon. The trail starts out ontop of these incredibly large rocks (remember that log we climbed to the top?) and the hiker is treated with an odd game of hop-scotch as he leaps from boulder to boulder. Standing in the back of the group and watching everyone in front of me jump around...it kind of reminded me of little fleas bouncing from one dog to another. But as they say...all good thing must come to an end and this one ended in a big way. Suddenly we found ourselves on the last of the boulders with three options for getting down.
The first option was the one that Joe and Michelle chose...find the lowest possible spot (about 8-10 feet) and jump...make sure you drop and roll! {That's where you let your legs collapse the instant they hit the ground and you drop to your side and roll...this prevents injury...but still be careful!}
The second option was what you see Eric doing here...wedge yourself between the rocks and "chimney" to the bottom...I do not reccomend this. Did you know that none of us even knew that he was above us?! I don't even think he knows that this picture was taken but it's pretty cool don't ya think? One of my fave!
The third option is what you see Norm about to do in the picture above...and that is turn belley-side to the rock...shimmey down to a great big log...

Wrap your legs around the log and sli-i-i-i-i-ide to the bottom. If you think that sounds simple...take a peek at the look on my face! It was a bit intimidating from the top...but if Cherri can do it I can too! :)
