Wakaba is Utena's best friend. She is a cheerful, outgoing person who sometimes can act a little crazy. She loves to jump on Utena's back, and joke about Utena being her "boyfriend" and her "one true love." She also has a crush on Saionji. She is jealous of Anthy, first because of her relationship with Utena, and then because of Saionji's affections for her. Because of this jealousy, she becomes a Black Rose Duelist (as she is seen at left), but eventually gets over her depression and mends her friendship with Utena.

Chu Chu is Anthy's pet mouse. Or pet monkey. The most accurate description would be a "monkey-mouse." Chu Chu loves to eat and sleep. In the manga, Anthy says that she gave Chu Chu his tie and earing so that he wouldn't be walking around naked.

The Shadow Girls appear during every epsisode to comment on the events unfolding, or to enact some symbolic skit that the viewer is left puzzling over. There are three, referred to as A-ko, B-ko, and C-ko. We never see the actual girls, just their shadows.

Kozue is the troublesome sister of Miki. She has not forgiven Miki for getting sick during a childhood piano concert that the two were supposed to perform together in. Yeah, like it was Miki's fault that he got the measles. Although she is outwardly cold to Miki, she is actually quite possessive of him and tries to make sexual advances toward him. Eeeeeeeeeew!

Keiko, Yuko, and Aiko are Nanami's three "henchgirls." In most episodes, there is a scene with them cornering Anthy and slapping her, blaming her for this problem or that. They share Nanami's hatred of Anthy and use her as a scapegoat, like Nanami.

Suzuki, Yamada, and Tanaka are three students who follow Nanami around and try to get her to date them. They write her love letters every day, and also act in the capacity of her "henchmen."

Mitsuru is an elementary school student who has a crush on Nanami and wants to be her "big brother," like Touga is. He follows her around and does her bidding loyally, but also puts her in danger just so that he can save her.

Shiori is the lifelong friend (and unknowing true love) of Juri. She fell in love with a boy and stole him from Juri . . .or at least thought she did. She once gave Juri an orange rose, saying, "Believe in miracles, and they will know your true feelings." Consequently, Juri no longer believes in miracles.

Ruka is a master fencer who taught Juri everything she knows about fencing. He is the first to figure out how Juri really feels about his girlfriend, Shiori. So, like the snake that he is, he is careful to initiate PDAs with Shiori when Juri is watching. As the series progresses, he does more and more horrible things to Juri and Shiori. He uses Shiori and Juri as means to an end . . .

Mikage is the charismatic leader of the Black Rose Duelists. His goal is to overthrow the elite of the student council (the Duelists of the Red Rose) become the new master of Ohtori. Mamiya is the new "Rose Bride" he hopes to install to replace Anthy.

Akio is Anthy's older brother and the dean of students at Ohtori. He is the complicated villian of the series - unbelievably good-looking, but quite evil. QUITE evil. We won't write much more about him. Too much potential for spoilers with this name.

Dios is the ghostly prince imprisoned in the castle above the Dueling Arena. During the duels, he descends from the castle to help Utena win.
