JESUS Christ was being lauded after having done Mighty Miracles including delivering up Lazarus from the dead [in the legal sense]. As written in John 12:4 Young's Literal Translation "Therefore saith one of his disciples -- Judas Iscariot, of Simon, who is about to deliver him up --",

and "him" refers to JESUS Christ [in the legal sense], and "to betray" as in some translations rather means "yield up" (ibid.)
and the "--" and "--" are interpreted as dashes (ibid.) {or if negatives they would have been null sets}.

Judas was required to be innocent hence to obey the law
