Charlie Adler

“Cow and Chicken, the Red Guy. I love this show more than anything I've ever done. I mean, how lucky am I to be doing all these parts?”
-Charlie Adler when asked what his favorite role has been in an interview with Toon Talk the e-zine.

One of the most distinguished voice-over actors is Charlie Adler.

I became aware of Mr. Adler last year when I first got interested in the people behind the cartoons. One of the first connections I made on my own was between Bev and Ed Bighead. Now, I know you’re thinking that most people know that they are the same, but I had to start somewhere. I guess I first heard him as either Buster Bunny, or Waggs the Squirel on Once Upon a Forest, but it wasn’t until last year that I actually found out who he was.

Charlie Adler is the man behind many outstanding characters. My favorites are Ickis and Buster Bunny, but he also gives the gift of speech to Ed Bighead, Bev Bighead, Mr. Wolfe, Grandpa Wolfe, the Hippo Lady, Cow, Chicken, the Red Guy, I.R. Baboon, Screwball Squirel, Rodrick Rat, Waggs the Squirrel, Mechanicles (sp?), Light (the siren on Bonkers), Captain Caveman Jr., Mad Dog (from TaleSpin), the fish, fruit and nuts, and melon vendors from Aladdin, and numerous extras on each of these shows.

Mr. Adler is currently the voice director of The Wild Thornberrys and Rocket Power, and he also directed The Rugrats Movie.

To prove his talent, here is an excerpt from an interview with Toon Talk, an e-zine:

TT: Do you have any funny stories about doing voices?
CA: I was living up in the mountains when I first moved to Malibu from NY in a house that was almost in the woods. I was living alone and I was talking to my dog and peeling a carrot and I cut my finger. I started to bleed and I looked at it and went [baby voice] "Ow! Oh, look at the baby's finger! Oh, ow!" and I was walking around the house like that all day. I'd just moved there, and my neighbor the next day knocked on the door with a teddy bear for my little baby. I said, "I don't have babies! That was just me!"

Mr. Adler was nominated for an Annie Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement for Voice Acting in November 1996 for his work on Cow and Chicken.
