Watkins Superior Quality Since 1868 It all started in 1868 when Joseph "J. R." Watkins moved to Plainview, Minnisota from Cincinnati, Ohio, bringing with him the formula for a pain relieving liniment he had purchased from Dr. Richard Ward. Originally named "Dr. Ward's Vegetable Anodyne Liniment," the product would become the foundation for an entire empire.
