Alchemy
The major field of science in medieval Europe was
Alchemy. Alchemy was in many ways the predecessor of modern science, especially the science of
chemistry. The purpose of Alchemy was to find a
way to turn common metals into gold or silver.
There was also a second purpose which was to find a way
to get humans to live forever. Of course none of
these goals were accomplished but much was learned about
how things reacted and other basic chemistry.
The Medieval
Science Page has many links to sites with
information on the achievements in the medieval time
period. The links are organized into different
science categories.
