The vast majority of Wizardry's monsters are "borrowed" from Dungeons & Dragons, which, in turn, are largely based on mythology and various high fantasy novels. I've listed the monsters in alphabetical order, rather than the numerical system used in the game's monster book, which lumps creatures together by type/theme. However, I have also included the relevant number, next to each monster's name, should you desire to easily cross reference my list with the game's. If you're having trouble locating some of the monsters on the levels that I've indicated, keep in mind that (1) some encounters are VERY rare and (2) some floors have isolated sub-sections which often have different enemy encounters than the rest of the level (for example, the center areas of maps 13-18). |

| Wizardry Empire (I) and Wizardry Empire (II): Fukkatsu no Tsue utilize the same game engine and graphical assets, so their respective monster assortments, other than the stats, are largely identical [while Wizardry Empire (II): Fukkatsu no Tsue does have more critters total, 217 to Wizardry Empire (I)'s 167, I would argue that Fukkatsu no Tsue's numbers are artificially inflated with the many ghost and dragon palette-swapped variants.] Someday, I might make a separate bestiary for Wizardry Empire (I), but, in the mean time, I thought I'd include the monsters exclusive to that version here as well. The usual five races are available for play in this installment of Wizardry: Humans, elves, dwarves, gnomes, and hobbits. While, for the most part, character classes are open to any race (so long as they can meet, or exceed, the required ability scores, and/or have in their possession the appropriate transformation item), you'll have better results if the character's attributes play to the strengths of their chosen profession. For example, hobbits tend to be agile and lucky, which makes them excellent thieves, but they're not very strong or durable, so they don't make the best frontline melee fighters. Of course, there's nothing preventing you from making a hobbit fighter, just understand that, all things being equal, a halfling isn't going to be as effective in that role as a sturdy dwarf would be. Note that the strength (chikara) and vitality (semeiryoku) attributes will have slight variances depending on whether you chose to make your character a man (otoko) or woman (onna) - in this Wizardry game men are slightly stronger (more damage) and woman are slightly healthier (more hit points). Other than that, the only other time gender affects gameplay is in connection with the new female-only Kunoichi prestige class. An equal mix of three men and three women is a good choice for your party's composition, but do whatever suits your own tastes and play style. |

There is no real "right" or "wrong" answer to that, which is part of the beauty/playability of the Wizardry series. However, in order to be ready for any situation that the game throws at you, I would recommend that you have at least two dedicated frontline melee fighters (to dish out, and absorb, damage), one character proficient in Priest spells and turning undead (to heal/buff the party, identify monsters, light the dungeon, and take out the unliving), one character skilled at thievery (to disarm traps, pick locks, etc.), and one spellcaster who's mastered all the Mage spells (to inflict mass damage, buff the party, incapacitate enemies, and view/navigate the dungeon). This is the party composition I generally use when I play through a Wizardry game for the first time, including this one (I then go back later and try out other combinations.) Multiple healers and spellcasters might seem redundant, but, trust me, it's a lifesaver when several party members are dead or incapacitated. In regards to race, I generally favor dwarves because of their high vitality (extra hit points) and strength (extra melee damage). Heals 28+3d9 (28-55) hit points of damage for each member of the party. Divine spell that deals 9d8 (9-72) points of damage to all enemies. Greater life spell that revives a dead character with full hit points, even ones that have been reduced to ashes. Success is not guaranteed. |
Ultimate attack spell that deals 12d12 (12-144) points of fire damage to all enemies. When used outside of combat, this allows you to pick any location on the map, that you've previously visited, and instantly warp there. In combat, the teleport spell will whisk your party away to a random point in the dungeon--useful if things are going VERY badly. Always keep in mind that, as usual, accidentally teleporting into solid stone is instantly fatal to your entire party. Bestows 85% magic resistance on the entire party for the duration of a single battle. After casting this spell, a divine force will offer you a choice of three random benefits (escape the fight, heal the entire party back to full health, resurrect all dead party members, give the entire party a huge bonus to their AC, fully replenish all spells, etc.) This potent magic can turn even the most hopeless of battles around, but save it for when you really need it, because the Wish comes at a very steep price: the caster must sacrifice one level of experience every time they use it! |

Unlike the other magical character classes, Summoners do not acquire new spells as they gain levels (although they do gain spell slots), rather he or she must venture forth into the dungeon and gather their monsters from special shrines scattered througout the complex (I like to think of it as Wizardry's version of Yuna's Aeon-collecting pilgrimage from Final Fantasy X.) Note that the Summoner must also have reached, or exceeded, the appropriate experience level (stronger summons require higher levels) or the monster will not consent to serve you. |

This is a list of the weapons, defensive gear, and miscellaneous items that can potentially be acquired throughout the game (here I've used the game's numerical/categorical system, rather than an alphabetic listing.) The most common objects are already available for purchase at the town's shop, but the better items can only be acquired by opening the bags and chests (which are usually booby-trapped) that enemies often leave behind after they are defeated. While I've managed to find most of the game's equipment, currently, I'm still missing several pieces. Because item acquisition is largely random in nature, I don't know that I'll ever get them all. If anybody reading this has found any of the stuff I haven't, I would appreciate it if you would e-mail me a screenshot of the item's stats, along with the item book number, so that I can add it to this list. During gameplay, you should notice that the type/color of treasure containers varies, which roughly corresponds to the quality of the items you'll find within [in order of value, I've seen leather sacks (kawa no fukuro), copper (dou), bronze (seidou), silver (gin), gold (kin), platinum (purachina), exotic (kiri), lacquered (uroshi), jet black (shikkoku), and attractive (miwaku) treasure boxes.] The jet black and attractive treasure chests are extremely rare, and I've only found them on the lowest EX floors (EX6-EX8.) I don't know if it's true or not, but I was reading some commentary on a Japanese web site that seemed to indicate that the combined luck of your entire party influences what treasure you receive, and that a party of nothing but hobbits (maximum luck of 24 each) is the optimum arrangement for obtaining the rarest stuff. If you're trying to fill up the item book, I also highly recommend that you make one of your party members a Bishop so that you can identify items in the field, instead of running back to town everytime you need to have your loot appraised. |
