Phase 1

DESIGN

The first (and possibly most important) step in any major project like this is the initial concept and design.

By working out your ideas on paper you can get a much clearer idea of what is going to be involved, materials you'll need, what the possible problems might be, and how they can be solved or avioded.

Of course you won't think of everything, there are always suprises, unexpected delays, and improvements on old ideas. But even if you are experienced you will end up saving time and money doing as much work as possible on paper first.

Before forging ahead on something like this I usually spend from a few weeks to several months obsessively going over the whole project in my mind, trying to think of every detail and making tons of quick sketches and doodles. Of course it helps to have some drawing skills but they don't need to be works of art, just clear enough for you to understand. If you really need more accurate drawings, find and artist who is willing to help set down your ideas (like Me)

Here are just a few of the rough sketches I produced while planning this project. Yes they're wrinkled and dirty, but so what? they did the job.

The earliest concept sketch of what I wanted the costume to look like.
Shows how I thought the suit should fit.
Various 5 min thumbnail sketches.
Newer designs for the mask and clothing.
The latest sketch of how I want the costume to look when complete.
