    Research

If you have research to be carried out in Tasmania and can't do it because you     don't live here, then we can do it for you.

We have in our possession all pioneer indexes for every state except South         Australia. The Tasmanian Pioneer index 1804-1899 is used to find the relevant     certificate number for your ancestor and a copy of the baptism, birth, death or
marriage can be found at the State Archives.

Also at the State Archives are other resources too numerous to mention here     but they include convict lists and registers, ships manifests, inquests and more.

We can search, find, copy and post to you for a minimal fee that includes our      costs and the costs of photocopying and postage.

Enquiries and bookings can be made here

    Contact Club

For a yearly fee you can be a member of the Whitecottage Contact Club and         get a 25% reduction on fees we charge for research. As a member of the             Contact Club you get a monthly newsletter from us with all new and exciting         finds we come across in Australia and overseas.

You will also be placed in contact with other members researching similar             families and lines to you or have knowledge of researching a topic that you are     also researching.

    Enquiries can be made here

    Advice

Members are given free advice on where to look for resources they need to         find the information on their ancestors. We will help you with your "brickwall"         which is a term used when your research comes to a dead end.

Non-members can still get our advice but not for free.  We will look at your         problem and offer advice on how to overcome it.  We will give you a free quote
and if we can help you you will be charged the usual research rate.  If we can         not help you we will not charge you anything and give you the name or names     of people who may be able to help you.  This is a part of our free referral             service.

    Advice can be sought here

    Photos

    We offer a photo service.

If you would like photos taken of a grave site, headstone, church, house where     your ancestor lived, pics of the country side around the area your families lived     etc. then we have the digital camera to do it for you.

These photos can be emailed to you or they can loaded onto a floppy disk or a     cd-rom and posted to you.

The flat rate for this is $2.00 per photo.  Postage rates depend on the current     rate at the time the service is provided.

You can pay via personal cheque (if in Australia), moneyorder, or by bank             transfer within Australia.   Please do not send cash through the mail.

Enquiries and bookings can be made here

    The Beginner's ProgramTM

This program will help those new to researching your family history in                 Australia.  The program was specifically designed for this purpose but it also         helps those who have researched for sometime find something they did not         know about researching.

The Beginner's Program can be purchased in various formats.  You can                 purchase the program as word documents (readable in any Microsoft Word         package) or a HTML document (readable in any browser such as Internet             Explorer, Netscape,  Firefox etc.)

You can have the program housed on floppy disk, cd-rom or even emailed to         you.

This program contains 10 sections or lessons.  When delivering these lessons     they last between two and three hours to complete.  When reading these             lessons it would take approximately one hour to read and digest the                     information.

The program takes you through the various forms used in family research, the     use of the Chapman Codes that are abbreviations used Internationally by             researchers, The International Genealogical Index provided by the LDS (Church     of Jesus Chirst of Latter Day Saints or The Mormans as they are also known)
which is a valuable and useful tool when researching your family.

All States of Australia have a Pioneer Index of vital records and each State and     Territory is covered in the Program.  Other areas of interest in the program are
Researching in the UK, tips and advice on how to find English, Scottish, Irish         and Welsh ancestors, shipping, convicts, aboriginal research, adoption                 information, and much much more.

You can buy the program for $35.00 plus postage.  Buy here

We also deliver The Beginner's Program as a training program

You can request to have this program delivered to your research group by         Tony and Roseanne or any individual can take the program for those who like     one to one teaching environments.

The cost of the program delivered personally is $10.00 per head for each             lesson which would be conducted each week for a period of three hours per         week.

In total the program lasts 30 hours and we make these lessons pro-active and     fun.  You will learn a lot from these lessons.

Tony is the holder of a Certificate IV in Assessment & Workplace              Training gained in 2001 through Workplace Education & Training in         Queensland.

    Visiting Tasmania

Many researchers come to Tasmania on holiday to do some research while they     are here.  Many do not have family or relatives living in Tasmania to help them     find what they are looking for so many times the trip is fruitless.

We can help plan your trip for you along your guidelines and meet you at the         airport, direct you to your accommodation and also provide tours of the areas     you want to go to.  We can also book you in for research at the local family         history society, the State Library or the Tasmanian Archives to conduct                 research and offer advice and tips along the way.

Tony is a Domestic Travel Consultant and can use his experience to advise you     on travel and accommodation in Tasmania.

    The Reflections Series

Should you be thinking of writing down your personal history and not know         where to begin, then you should contact us about our Reflections series of         personal history journals.

    Reflections of My Life

This is a journal that leads you from your birth right through your life where         you details all events that affected your life and you record your thoughts and
feelings about them.  This book can be a legacy for your family to reflect on         your life once you have passed on.  What better way to remember someone         than to read about their life in their own words.

    Mothers Reflections

Mothers Reflections is also a personal journal that mothers can fill out reflecting     on their personal life but it holds more surprises for the family members.

Here, Mothers can leave handy hints and tips for their children on how to cope     with varying situations the Mother has encountered and defeated along the         way. It can be used as a reference book by family members long after Mother     has passed on.

    Diggers Memories

Available for returned servicemen and women to document their service in the     armed forces of Australia in times of conflict around the world.

As time passes the list of surviving returned servicemen and women who             served this country is getting smaller so now is the time to document their         service, their feelings and emotions about their experience as an ever lasting         reminder of the sacrifice they made and to remember those who did not return.

    Lest We Forget
