Message from the President:
Well here we go Greenbriar--the
elections are over and justly nominated slate of officers were duly
elected to run your neighborhood association for one more year. It took an
extra month to get the job done but the good people of Greenbriar spoke up
and were very clearly heard. My apologies for the absence of the January
Newsletter but for reasons beyond my control the January issue did not get
written.
Your Officers for 2001 are:
President, Rusty Arnold
Vice President, Gary Gibson
Secretary, Goldie Boester
Treasurer, Terri Arnold
Members at large: Cy
Francis and Odis Brimer This
is a fine slate of officers that will do a great job for the people of
Greenbriar. We all look forward to serving South Greenbriar for 2001.
Your friend and
neighbor,
Rusty Arnold -

Clyde’s Two Cents!
Your City Council has been meeting off and on over the past three months in a quest to pick a new city manager. Our current city manager, Bob Terrell, had announced his retirement last October and the council started the process to find a new manager. We voted to contract with a personnel placement service to advertise and narrow the field of potential candidates. The headhunter brought us eight candidates, two of whom are currently serving the city as assistant city managers.
From the beginning there were a couple of council members who favored hiring from within. Most favored doing a national search to insure we got the best candidates. I was among the latter. In my opinion, we need to consider the field even if we do finally select from within. That at least verifies the quality of the selected. Based on my own past experience I also favored hiring from without simply to get a candidate with new ideas and one who is not entrenched in city politics. That was apparently the feeling that predominated in the council because we did, in the end, select the city manager of Carrollton. His name is Gary Jackson and he looks like a real winner for the City of Fort Worth.
The final selection came after two days of interviews and deliberation. It wasn't all that easy because there were several first rate applicants. In the end we narrowed down to the best three and re-interviewed and again deliberated until we selected Mr. Jackson. Actually, he had been my first choice after reading resumes and the interview was the frosting on the cake. I'm confident that he can take us to a level that provides the best government for the tax dollar. He has the ability to identify inefficient and unnecessary city functions and at the same time get the most out of employees.
