Chapter 34
“We were just going to hang out in the hotel. I was going to call my best friend Beth.”
“She’s the dancer right?”
“Yep. I was going to see if she wanted to hang with us tonight. I know it will be boring staying in the hotel, but you know the press is all over Nick being here.”
“I know. Come to my place. Everyone’s coming over. We are getting take out and renting some movies."
“You sure Love,” asked Kat.
Jennifer and she had hit it off as soon as they met again on Monday. Jennifer insisted she and Nick call her Love like her friends and family did.
“Of course Kat. I wouldn’t ask if I weren’t. And invite your friend Beth. Maybe we can hang out when you are gone.”
“I will call her right now.”
Kat called Beth and she agreed to meet them on the location set. Beth was now in rehearsals with the American Ballet Company. She loved New York. Kat went back to work taking photographs of Love. She was a really sweet person. Kat liked her. Everyone involved with the show was nice. Nick was hanging out with the guys in the cast and having a grand time not being the center of attention.
Beth arrived about an hour before they wrapped filming for the day. They all climbed in the limo with Love and went to the apartment Fox had rented for her during the New York location filming. It was a nice apartment, but simple, not extravagant by any means. Everyone else showed up an hour later with movies and food in hand. They all settled in to eat then watch the movies.
Kat took pictures of everything. It showed how the young cast felt about each other. They were all buddies. They welcomed Kat, Nick, and Beth into their circle. Kat felt lucky to have gained the trust of these people. She knew no one else would have been in the position to take these pictures. It also eliminated the need to do the formal shoot the magazine had requested for the Love at home section of the spread.
At the end of the evening, Love walked Kat, Nick and Beth out to a waiting cab. Beth and Love had exchanged numbers and made plans to have lunch the following week. Kat hugged Love and thanked her again for including them. Beth and Kat got into the back of the cab. Nick hugged Love and said goodnight then got into the cab.
The remainder of the week went smoothly. Kat spent Thursday night developing the pictures. She showed the contacts of the photos to Love on Friday before dropping them off at the In Style office. They were pleased with the pictures.
Nick and Katrina met up with Beth, Love and the rest of the cast on Saturday night at a club. They were celebrating the end of another week and saying bye to Kat and Nick. They danced until midnight then said goodbye. Heading back to the hotel, they fell in bed and got a good night sleep before heading for home the next morning.
It was a week before all hell broke loose. It started with an early morning call from a reporter. The reporter had call to get Nick’s comment on his new relationship with Jennifer Love Hewitt. Nick hung up and called the phone company to get his unlisted number changed again. They did it immediately. Nick and Katrina then spent the rest of the morning calling everyone to give them the new number. Kat went out to the grocery that afternoon. At the checkout she was greeted with pictures on the tabloids of Nick and Love hugging out in front of her apartment. Since Kat and Nick were regular shoppers at the store the clerk asked her if everything was OK. Kat assured the older woman things were fine. It was just the tabloids getting it wrong again.
She told Nick about the tabloids when she got home. She also called Love. Love apologized for it happening. Kat and Nick assured her she had nothing to apologize for, because she did nothing wrong.
Nick met with the Boys and management. They decided to just ignore it. Love’s people agreed with the strategy.
So they went about their business. Kat worked on updating the WebPages she managed. Nick met with the Boys and Wayne about the video. Wayne was having a problem finding the locations he needed. Nick suggested they go back to the Wilson Farm. Everyone loved the idea. Now they just had to get the Wilson’s to agree and that was Kat’s job.
“Hello.”
“Hey Mama Wilson.”
“Well if this ain’t Katrina as I live and breathe. Where are you girl?”
“I’m in Florida. How are you and Papa Wilson doing.”
“I’m good and he’s as old and cantankerous as ever.”
“Good,” laughed Kat.
“So what do you need girl?”
“You know me too well. Actually, it’s the Boys that need you. They are getting ready to shoot an new video and they need a location.”
“I’m guessin’ the location is our place.”
“Yes ma’am it is.”
“When?”
“A week from Wednesday.”
“Tell ‘em to come on. That will give me just enough time to convince RJ.”
“Thanks Mama Wilson. I need to tell everyone here. Now the director, Wayne Isham will be calling.”
Mrs. Wilson interrupted, “No! Give me his number and I will call him. I don’t want Papa getting hold of the man before I have won him over.”
“OK. Let me get it and call you back.”
“All right sweetie. I will wait for your call. I’ll be glad to see all those handsome young men again.”
“And they will be happy to see you too. I will call you right back. Bye.”
Chapter 35
“Mama Wilson have I mentioned I love you,” inquired Wayne Isham.
“You wait just a minute there young man that woman is spoken for,” declared RJ Wilson.
Betty Wilson laughed, “Oh hush RJ. It does this old woman good to hear a handsome younger man loves her. Even if it is, because I’ve fed him good.”
The group assembled laughed with the older woman. The entire video crew had arrived that morning to set up for the video shoot. All the Boys were there with the necessary people in tow. Both Kevin and Brian’s immediate family members were there, along with Kat’s family. The Wilson’s had insisted the video shoot should begin with a party.
Melissa and AJ were very chummy throughout the evening much to the dismay of two of the models chosen for the video. Nick almost never left Katrina’s side. Tonya, Deb, and Connie had also come along to support their men.
Wayne was standing with Nick. They were watching Kat disappear into the house.
“You know if I had known how pretty your girlfriend was I would have picked her for the video.”
“Really? Of course you would have put her with me right,” joked Nick.
“Of course, but not because she’s your girlfriend. Nope, because your coloring contrasts each other completely but meshes together. It would have been…wow.”
“Oh well you’ve already picked someone. Hey, can Katrina take pictures of the shoot?”
“Sure.”
“Cool! I’ll go tell her,” said Nick as he headed into the house.
Later that evening, Kat slipped into the guesthouse and awakened Nick. “What Kat?”
“Get dressed. We are going for a ride,” whispered Kat.
“We are,” asked a drowsy Nick.
“Yep and you are getting lucky.”
Nick woke up at that statement. After he dressed they got Boomer out of the barn. Kat and Nick rode bareback to the waterfall. Dismounting, Kat just inhaled the fresh air. Nick looked at her. She was wearing shorts and one of his white wife-beaters she had swiped. Her hair was down and she glowed in the moonlight. It was no accident Wayne was shooting at this specific time. The next night was the beginning of the full moon. Suddenly Nick realized Kat was undressing.
“Kitten what are you doing?”
“I’m going for a swim,” she replied before jumping in the water.
She surfaced and looked at Nick. He was grinning at her. He looked amazing. He had thrown on his jeans, but no shirt when they left the guesthouse. His going to the gym with Kevin was paying off. Since they had first met Nick had filled out even more. He was toned and had definition to his body. The moonlight danced on his blonde hair. He slowly removed his jeans while watching Kat tread water. Finally he dove in and came up gasping.
“Katrina why didn’t you tell me the water was cold?”
“Because it’s not that cold. Come here and I will warm you up.”
Nick swam to her. They wrapped their arms around each other and kissed. Kat broke the kiss and swam to the waterfall. Nick followed. She wrapped her arms around him again as she kissed him.
“Nicky are you warming up,” she asked before sucking on his bottom lip.
Nick moaned against her mouth. “Oh Kitten. I’m getting very warm.”
“Good," she whispered as she turned him around and pushed him under the water and swam away.
"You are so going to get it," called Nick as he swam after her.
"Nicky you know why I like this side?"
"Tell me."
Kat giggled, "Because we can stand up."
She did it to prove her point. Nick stared at her. The water was cascading off her upper body. She had the smile he had grown to love. It stirred his desire for her. Nick stood up and it was Kat's turn to admire the man she loved. The water had slicked back his hair. He walked toward her. His head bending to kiss her. They explored each other's mouths. Nick's arms circled Kat's waist pulling her against him. Her fingers tangled in the hair at the nape of his neck. Kat slide her left leg up and around his leg.
"My, my, but you do seem warm now," drawled Kat.
"Kitten I am more than warm," growled Nick. "Are you warm?"
"Yes Nicky, I'm very warm."
Nick moved his hands to cup her bottom and in one move he lifted her so she could wrap her legs around his waist. Kat position Nick and he lowered her onto him. Kat began by tightening around him then he began to move her up and down on him. They moved as one with the water splashing around them. Slowly the tempo increased until Nick released into Kat. Neither moved for a moment. Finally, Kat unwrapped her legs and stood. She kissed Nick and they got out of the water. They held each other looking up at the almost full moon.
"I guess we should head back," said Nick. "Thanks for waking me up."
"Anytime sir."
They climbed onto Boomer and headed home at a leisurely pace. Nick loosened his hold on Kat's waist and began to undo her shorts.
"Nicky what are you doing?"
"I'm just taking care of something."
"What?"
"Hush and just keep Boomer heading home."
Nick slid his hands up under the wet wife-beater that clung to Kat's body. Kat arched her back as Nick's hands closed around her breast. He played with her nipples causing her breathing to speed up. Kat turned her head and Nick captured her mouth. Kat broke the kiss.
"Nick why are you doing this to me?"
"Because I had all the fun in the water."
"You didn't have all the fun."
"Well I'm the only one that finished. So now I am returning the favor, so quiet."
He didn't allow Kat to respond. Instead he kissed her. He kissed his way to her ear. His right hand moved down to her belly button, drawing circles around it. He inched his way inside her shorts.
"I like the way we are sitting," chuckled Nick.
"Of course you do. I'm basically spread eagle here."
"Its all good," said Nick as he slid two of his fingers inside her.
"Yes it is," sighed Kat.
Nick moved his fingers in and out of her while teasing her with his thumb. He left hand was moving back and forth between her breast. Nick picked up the pace as Kat started to move her hips to his rhythm. Her moans urged him on. He loved the way she responded to his touch. Suddenly Nick felt her tightening around his fingers as she called his name. She rested against him as her breathing returned to normal.
Boomer walked into the barn and stopped. Nick scooted off the gelding's back and helped Kat down. She kissed him lightly on the lips. She felt her shorts start to slip down. She reached down to zip them. Nick stopped her. He leaned over and kissed her tummy below her belly button. Kat giggled and ran her fingers through his hair. Standing up he pulled the zipper up, but didn't button them. Kat put Boomer away and they walked back to the guesthouse.
"I wish we didn't have to sleep in separate bed," sighed Nick.
"You know this is silly,"
"What is?"
"Us sleeping in different rooms. I mean what do my parents think? We don't sleep together everywhere else?"
"I don't know. Do you really want to cause an argument?"
"No, but I also want you to sleep with me. Let's get your bag."
"Umm Kitten."
"Scratch that, we will pack your stuff tomorrow. We will just grab you some clothes for in the morning."
"OK."
Nick crept in and got his clothes then he and Kat headed into the main house. It was 3am. As the young couple walked into the kitchen her father cleared his throat in the darkness of the room.
"Hi dad."
"Hello Katrina, Nick. Where have you two been?"
"We went for a ride and a swim," said Katrina "What are you doing?"
"Getting a small piece of the chocolate pie Mama Wilson sent home with us. Where are you two headed now?"
"My room," said Kat bracing herself for the argument to come.
"OK."
"What," asked Kat and Nick in unison.
"OK."
"Dad are you saying you don't have problem with us sharing a room?"
"You do everywhere else. Right?"
"Yes."
"That's what your mother and I thought."
"Then why did you say Nick was to sleep in the guesthouse?"
"Because," interrupted her mother from the stairway. "We were joking. We really thought you would call us on it. It was far more amusing this way."
"Mom!"
"Don't Mom me. I suggest you two go to bed. You have a long day in front of you."
They all said goodnight. Kat led Nick to her room. They stripped and crawled in bed, falling asleep almost instantly.
Chapter 36
"Kathy, I thought you said you knew how to ride a horse," yelled Wayne Isham
"I have ridden a horse before. This one is just not a good one."
"Don't tell me that girl just said something bad about one of my horses," said RJ Wilson.
"Now dear I'm sure she didn't mean what she said," replied his wife.
"Yes I did. Your stupid horse is bad," said Kathy.
Kathy was the auburn hair model paired with Nick. She was a willowy and pouty 18-year-old. It was the first morning of the shoot. Wayne, BSB, The Wilson's, Katrina and Kathy had gone to the barn to get the horse Kathy would ride. Papa Wilson has picked Daisy, his gentlest mare. While walking Daisy, Kathy had dug her heels into the horse's side, which is a signal to go faster. Daisy started to trot and Kathy screamed. It was clear the girl didn't really know how to ride.
"Get off Daisy," said Katrina.
"What," snarled Kathy.
"You heard me. Get off the horse before I pull you off."
Kathy got down when Kat stepped toward her. Katrina pulled the reigns from the girl. She soothed the horse then climbed on her. She rode Daisy around for minute, then reigned up in front of Wayne.
"Daisy is the sweetest horse you have ever seen. Aren't you baby," said Kat while patting the horse's neck.
"So I can see," agreed Wayne. "Guys can I see you for a minute?"
BSB followed Wayne to the entrance of the barn. They talked quietly for a few minutes. Katrina watched with the others. Nick looked at her and winked. Suddenly they were all shaking their heads yes and returned to the others.
"Katrina," started Nick.
"Nick," replied Kat.
"Baby we need someone who can ride a horse for the video."
"I'm aware of that Nick."
"Well…."
AJ interrupted, "Geesh! Kat will you be in the video?"
"What?"
"Kat you are our sexy rider," said Wayne.
Kat doubled over with laughter. "Yeah right Wayne."
"Hello. Are you forgetting something? Like me," said Kathy.
"Young lady you couldn't ride a carousel horse," offered Betty Wilson. "Kat do it. It will be fun."
"Nick do you really want me to do this," asked Kat as she looked up into Nick's blue eyes.
"Yeah Kat I do."
"All right I'll do it. Daisy you and me are going to be video stars," chuckled Kat.
"I don't think so."
"What Papa Wilson," asked Kat.
"Since it's gonna be you in the video, I think you should have a different horse."
"Which one," asked Kat.
"Banshee," said the older man. "I'll be back."
Papa Wilson disappeared into the stud barn. He reappeared leading a beautiful white Arabian. The horse was amazing, a white version of Raven.
"Where did you get this horse," asked Kat.
"This is Raven's little brother. I bought him recently. He's a beauty."
"Yes he his," agreed Kat as she walked over to pet the horse. "He's ready to ride?"
"Yep."
"RJ! Kat he's still a little wild," warned his wife.
"Katrina can handle him. Hop on."
Kat climbed on Banshee's bare back. The horse bounced around for a moment. Kat talked to him in a soothing voice. It took every thing in Nick not to pull her off the horse. Banshee calmed down. Kat started walking him around. She directed him to the open field behind the barn with the others following. With a smile and wink to Nick, she took off across the field.
"This is going to be great," exclaimed Wayne.
"Yeah it is," agreed Kevin.
"Hey! What about me?"
"Young lady I believe you've learned a lesson," said Betty Wilson.
"And what is that?"
"You never get away with lying."
"I’m leaving," pouted Kathy.
"Don't let the horse kick you on your way out," said Brian.
Kathy stomped to the car she had ridden to the barn in. She slammed the door as she got in. The others didn't hide their laughter. They all brought their attention back to Kat as she rode back up to them.
"So we are a go," she asked.
"We are."
"Great! We will meet you at the house."
Wayne asked, "We?"
Nick answered as he got behind Kat on Banshee, "yeah we."
They watched as the couple rode across the field. Once Banshee was out of sight, they got into the two cars they rode over in and headed down the road to the Wilson house.
They were shooting Howie's scenes at the guesthouse, when Kathy left. No one noticed. After lunch, the crew set up at the waterfall. Kevin's scenes were shot. Everything was going smoothly. Nick watched Kat move in and around the sets taking pictures. He admired her drive. He had found someone as driven as him. They had dinner with her family. AJ joined them.
Finally it was time for Kat and Nick's scenes to be shot. It was 11pm and the moon was up. Wayne got great footage of the moon. They had everything set up in the field between the Morgan and Wilson houses. Wayne had purposefully prevented Nick and Kat from seeing each other until they did the scene. Everyone was gathered to watch the scene unfold. Wayne came out of the house where they were putting the final touches on Katrina's hair and makeup. He walked over to Nick.
"I just explained the scene to Katrina. Nick now we need to get you to your spot in the field."
"OK. When do I get to see her?"
"When she rides up to on Banshee."
"Oh," said a disappointed Nick.
"Aww our little Nicky wants to see his girl," said Brian.
"Don’t call me Nicky," grumbled Nick.
"OK let's get you to your spot Nick. Kat will be riding up from your right. You will have your back to her I will tell you when to turn to look at her. You will look at each other until I give another signal then you will watch her as she takes off in the opposite direction."
Wayne took his spot by the monitors. He had three camera's set up. One to get the full shot, then one each to capture Nick and Kat's reactions. Wayne really wanted to get this in one shot but doubted it would happen. He called on his walkie-talkie to his assistant director who was just over the knoll with Katrina, Banshee and the hair/makeup person. Kat mounted Banshee and walked him in a circle a couple of times before taking off. The assistant notified Wayne and he yelled action. Everyone waited. Nick heard the horse approaching and had to fight the urge to turn around.
"Wow. Wait. Wait Nick," muttered Wayne and then yelled. "Turn now Nick!"
Nick turned and watched Katrina close the last of the distance between them. She reined up exactly where Wayne told her to when they walked through the scene before dinner. Nick looked so amazing. He was in all white. He was looking up at her with a similar look as the first time he saw her. It was a look of wonder. Nick forgot to breathe as he looked at her. Katrina was dressed in a long flowing white gown similar to the one she wore the first time he saw her. Her hair was down and blowing in the breeze. She was looking at him with a look of amazement. Wayne watched and at the right moment yelled to Kat to move. Right before she took off her face showed sadness and pain then she was gone. Riding away from Nick. Nick watched her leave with a look of hurt. Wayne yelled cut. Kat came back and got off Banshee. Everyone crowded around the three monitors and watched the take from each camera.
"I didn't think you would do it, but you did," enthused Wayne.
"What," asked the others.
"You got it in one take. You rock!"
Everyone laughed. Wayne then started barking orders they needed to get some more scenes before calling it a night.
“So what are you doing with that handsome man of yours tonight?”
