Where can I write to V.C. Andrews?

Unfortunately, Ms. Andrews died in 1986. Her books have been carried on by a Ghostwriter since the early books of the Casteel series. I do not have e-mail or snail-mail addresses for the Andrews family, the ghostwriter, or the publisher.

Is Flowers in the Attic based on a true story?

There is NO evidence that Flowers in the Attic was based on a true story. It is suspected that Virginia used her own life experiences in her novels. She has admitted that a few incidents are autobiographical, but she is not willing to disclose which pieces. She has also used experiences of friends, family, and her own dreams and memories. Popular and literary fiction also influenced her writing.

How can new books be released after Ms. Andrews' death?
Who is the Ghostwriter?

Since V.C. Andrews' death in 1986, a carefully selected writer has been carrying on the V.C. Andrews tradename. Information on the Ghostwriter can be found on the Ghostwriter page. There are also many articles about the Ghostwriter in the Articles section. Warning! These pages contain the name of the Ghostwriter. If you prefer to keep the name a mystery, I suggest you do not visit these pages.

Which books did the Ghostwriter write?

There has been much question as to which novels were written by Ms. Andrews, and which were finished or written alone by the Ghostwriter. The primary novels in question are Garden of Shadows and the last three books of the Heaven series. Many say that these novels were begun by V.C. Andrews and finished by her successor, but the Ghostwriter claims that there were no unfinished manuscripts.

The novels written by Ms. Andrews were Flowers in the Attic, Petals on the Wind, If There Be Thorns, Seeds of Yesterday, My Sweet Audrina, Heaven, and Dark Angel. The novels that may have been begun by Andrews and finished by the Ghostwriter were Garden of Shadows, Fallen Hearts, Gates of Paradise, and Web of Dreams. Everything after Dawn was written by the Ghostwriter.

I'm doing a school project on V.C. Andrews. Can you help me?

The best I can do is refer you to some reference materials, since I did not know Ms. Andrews personally. One very good source is V.C. Andrews: A Critical Companion (1996 by E.D. Huntley). Two other books, though not as reliable as sources, are The V.C. Andrews Trivia and Quiz Book (1994 by Stephen Spignesi) and V.C. Andrews: A Reader's Checklist and Reference Guide (1999). These books can be ordered from Jennifer's Online Bookstore, and may be available at your local bookstores and libraries.

All the biographical information I have on V.C. Andrews is contained in this website. I would suggest browsing the Biography section, where you will find her Biography, a Time Line, the latest Publication and Film News, some VCA Trivia, many informative Articles (I highly recommend Douglas E. Winter's Faces of Fear interview and the Gale Research Biographical Entries), and information on the Ghostwriter.

Whatever information you use, I highly recommend that you cite the source of the information -- not me or my website -- since I did not write the material myself.

Did V.C. Andrews write any other manuscripts before Flowers in the Attic?

Her first manuscript was so autobiographical that she destroyed it in order to keep her life private. In 1972, she completed her first novel, The Gods of the Green Mountain, a science-fantasy story. It was never published. Between 1972 and 1979, she wrote nine novels and twenty short stories, of which only one was published. "I Slept with My Uncle on My Wedding Night", a short fiction piece, was published in an unknown pulp confession magazine.
