Eligibility Requirements
To
be considered eligible for this scholarship, an applicant must:
1. Complete
the Scholarship Foundation
Application
and submit it and all attachments to the “Scholarship Committee, c/o Estel Brown, 502
W. Center,
2.
Be a citizen
of the
3.
Be a descendant
or relative of a 47th Infantry
4.
Possess a 2.5
or higher GPA based on a 4.0 grading system or rank
scholastically in the top one-third of their high school graduating class. This
eligibility is wavered for veterans that possess a High School Diploma or its
equivalent.
5.
Be either a;
(1) graduating high school senior (2) a first,
second or third year college student
(3) honorably discharged
military veteran or (4) be currently in the military
and also meet the above 4 requirements. Applicants must have plans to enroll in
a full-time course of study
at an accredited vocational/technical school or a 2 or 4-year college,
university or other qualified institution of higher education.

checks will be made payable directly to the recipient. The recipient of the award must forward a
copy of his/her enrollment acceptance letter from the college, university or
institution of higher education to the Scholarship Committee (“Scholarship Committee, c/o Estel
Brown, 502 W. Center,
The amount of the Memorial Scholarship
will be determined by the Scholarship Committee, with the minimum award being
$500 for the school year in which it is awarded.
The Scholarship Committee will notify
the recipient of the award and, if the recipient is a
high school senior, their high school counselor. Awards to graduating seniors
may be presented at the high school awards assembly. If possible, a veteran of the 2nd/47th
Mechanized Infantry Regiment will present the award. All awards will be
publicized on the 2nd/47th Website and/or in the
recipient’s area newspapers.
Applicants who meet eligibility requirements will be ranked
by the Scholarship Committee according to the following criteria: Each item is worth a maximum of 10 points each, with a total of 110 points possible.
1. Academic promise (as determined by high school
Grade Point Average-
2. Character qualities represented in letters of
recommendation -
3. Scholastic,
extracurricular activities and community service or other comparable activities
in which applicant participated during high school years or military service. -
4. Work experience
during applicant’s high school years, considering length of employment and
nature of work, military service time. -
5. Essay
of 250 words or less which includes an explanation of why the student believes
he/she deserves to be awarded the Memorial Scholarship -
6. Financial need (as determined per the
Financial Need Statement)
7. Applicants who are descendents
or relatives of 2nd/47th Mech. Inf. Veterans who
were killed
in action in
8. Applicants that are Honorably Discharged Veterans
or are currently in the military pursuing
an education and who also meet the above 5 scholarship
eligibility requirements –
The
highest-ranking applicant(s) will be awarded the scholarship. The final decision on the award recipient
from the eligible applicants rests solely with the Scholarship Committee.

THIS SCHOLARSHIP IF HE/SHE HAS A HISTORY IN HIGH SCHOOL OR THE MILITARY OF
BEING DISRESPECTFUL TO SUPERVISORS/SUPERIORS OR THE FACULTY AND STAFF OF
HIS/HER HIGH SCHOOL, OR IS CONSIDERED BELOW-AVERAGE IN SEVERAL OF THE ABOVE
CHARACTER QUALITIES, AS DETERMINED BY A LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION TO THE
SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE FROM THE HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPLE AND/OR COUNSELOR, OR
MILITARY SUPERVISOR/COMMANDING OFFICER. (The letter needs to address the student’s attitude
toward faculty and staff and the student’s overall ranking in relation to the
list of character qualities i.e.; below
average, average or above average.)
