ack when I started, it was so cool,

nd we greeted a cough with a grin,

oughing and hacking, wheezing, "Oh well",

ool to be smoking, so grown up and mature,

ver the counter, so easy to get,

nowledge surrounded, "Not me", I was sure,

nventing excuses, ignoring all cautions,

ies to myself, "Can't quit", I had said,

aryngectomee, such a big word,

ilenced my denials and kept me from dead.
