Ranger Exes Memorial - RHS Class of 1931 The Faculty

Cozette Penney Burgess COZETTE PENNEY BURGESS, a former teacher and resident of Ranger, TX, passed away peacefully at her home May 9, 2001 at the age of 84 in Glendale AZ, with interment at Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger, TX. Cozette was born July 14, 1915 in Abilene, TX, the only child of Ethel & Harvey Wilkinson of Ranger. Harvey Wilkinson was a rancher, banker and school tax collector for Ranger. Ethel was a homemaker. Cozette was a graduate of Ranger High School and received a Bachelors Degree in Home Economics from North Texas State University in Denton, TX and a Masters Degree in Biology from Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, TX. Cozette taught school in Ranger for 17 years before moving to Baytown, TX, a few years after her husband, Dodds L. Penney passed away in 1963. Cozette taught Biology & Nutrition for L.V.N, (Licensed Vocational Nurses) at Lee College in Baytown for 20 years. Cozette was an avid reader, educator, friend, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a dedicated volunteer who enjoyed helping others and being involved. A World Traveler visiting over 40 countries and lacking only the distance from Singapore to Bombay to completely circle the globe. Survivors at the time of her death include her daughter, Jonell Penney Peace (RHS-1957) of Glendale, AZ, son, Dayle Penney (RHS-1962) of Arlington, TX. 3 grandsons, David Penney of Austin, TX, Brent Philipp of Glendale, AZ, Robbie Philipp of Burbank, CA and one great-granddaughter, Kyra Philipp.
