Devilfish
This song is what I consider to be the 'ultimate opener' and, yes, we opened our best shows with this tune.
Devilfish is definitely the most 'hard-core' song we had, and it rocked like nothing else we played.
The main brutality of this song comes from the guitar's dropped-D tuning, which means that the bottom E-string of the guitar is lowered a whole step to become a D.
Not being a very hard song to play, Devilfish got people on their feet. There's nothing like seeing a roaring moshpit to a song that you created!!!
The vocals were what one would expect of a song with this energy. Brian mostly sang this song in an evil, low rumble, the kind of tone that could rumble walls,
and yelled the most exciting parts. The rest of the band could never understand what he was screaming, but all the noises sounded damned cool. (you know I went back through my notebook and I wrote 6 different sets of lyrics to this song before I found a set that worked)
This song was the finale of our demo tape, and one hell of a finale at that!!!
DEVILFISH
Hello my name is silence
I live inside your heart
Once we've been acquianted
You and I will never part
I'm the little thing inside you
That keeps the secrets in
I'm the key to all your desires
And your smirky little grin
Why are we wasting so much time?
Forming all those little lies to look larger in a stranger's eyes
Why are we wasting so much time?
Happiness will never be with that little thing called dignity
OH you'd love to walk up to her
And tell her how you feel
But housing me inside you
Just makes the world seem to real
Don't recall your wishes
They may thing they're kinda crude
Don't forget your soul
Cause I'm lying to you too!
Why are we wasting so much time?
Forming all those little lies to look larger in a stranger's eyes
Why are we wasting so much time?
Happiness will never be with that little thing called dignity
After a brief interlude Brian screams some undistiguishable word (I think I said boo-yea) and continues on into a frensy of "BEARING BLANK PAGES!"
