ELIMINATED FROM ALPHA

VERONICA
ELIMINATED FROM BETA

NATALIE

After four eliminations, three out of the four girls that started are already out of the game.  One girl left with thirteen guys.  An unusual message is posted onto the board by an annonymous person:

"Here be a hit, if you want to catch me, think back closely to challenge three, you'll find the knives were out for me..."
CHALLENGE: THE ULTIMATE CODEWORD

The next challenge for the group involves a lot of communicating between individuals and can earn the group $45,000.  Each group member is sent a document.  All but one of the documents have to be opened with a password.  The person who's file can be opened without a password contains a coded question.  The group must decode the question and answer it.  The answer to the question is the password for one of the locked documents someone else has.  Within it is another coded question where the answer is the password for someone elses locked document.  This process continues until all the documents are opened.  The last document contains information on a password that needs to be sent to the host.  If the group can send in the correct password they win the challenge.

Here are the codes:

  1. HM VGZS XDZQ VZR SGD LTMHBG NKXLOHBR?
  2. 4,19,26,7 24,12,15,12,6,9 18,8 7,19,22 25,26,24,16,20,9,12,6,13,23 12,13 7,19,22 13,12,9,4,22,18,20,26,13 21,15,26,20?
  3. W-A- I- T-E -I-F-R-N-E -E-W-E- T-E -U-E -F -O-R -N- T-E -Q-A-E -F -I-E

  4. ABBCCDDEEEFFFHHHHNOORSSTTUUV
  5. WHAT BREAK NAME WORD OUT OF IS OF A BOTH AN SERIES TO EGG ONE EMERGE AND SURVIVOR FROM THE CONTESTANT OR LAST ?
  6. OTLA UQES IDERAU QSC MNIE TS NIEOTG NID ROCCA
  7. BY WHO COMEDIES PERFORMED LIFE WERE MEANING OF AND THE OF BRIAN THE LIFE?
After the first six documents were opened the group discover the code they need to send the host is the first letters of each of the team member's names in the same order their documents were opened.

Alpha solve the codes and break the passwords quite easily.  However, Isaiah slows down the team as his computer is getting fixed, changing his email address for the game.  It just happens to be the same time important information was only sent to his original email address.

Beta on the other hand have major troubles communicating to each other.  Noone in their team knows who had the first document.  Sharna tries to help the challenge by sending her document to the entire team.  Everyone in the team claims they can't open their document.  The team order Billy to open his document because they presume him being first on the list was given the first document.  He has troubles on his computer so tries opening it on a friends, it doesn't open.  Everyone has tried to open theirs except Nick.  It is he who has the first document but he doesn't tell the rest of the team.  Some of the passwords are revealed in the questionnaire.  Yves tries one of them on his document and it works.  It opens Tim's document and it's the one with the final codeword.  It seems like they can complete the challenge but they discover they need to know what order the documents needed to be opened.  The rest of the team try some of the passwords in the questionnaire.  Billy opens his up and the codeword unlocks Daniel's document but before the order was determined, Tim submits an answer.

Robbie sends in the code "JDMBISR" and Alpha wins the challenge.  Tim sends in the code "NSDDBYT", but unfortunately for Beta it's incorrect, and they walk away empty handed.

CHALLENGE: MOST VALUABLE PLAYER

In last week's interview, the group were asked who they thought their most valuable team member was.  Little did they realise they were putting that person in jeopardy in this challenge.  The person Alpha thought was the most valuable was Robbie.  The person Beta thought was most valuable was Tim.  This challenge will prove how valuable these team members are.  The deal is, if the group win this following challenge, they win $70,000 for the kitty.  If the group loses the following challenge, their Most Valuable Player or MVP will be eliminated from the game.  That means, the quizzes will be ignored as that person will automatically be executed from the game.  The groups become very edgy about the assignment especially because their MVP cannot help them complete the challenge.

The challenge is for four out of the six in the team to find at least four of the six webpages on the following list, with unique elements.  The webpages must:

NB: The validity of the sites were judged at the time of play.  The following links may not be valid at present.

Alpha's Blake is the first to find websites.  He finds a transcript of an interview with Keanu Reeves' band Dogstar, the 1999 Events Calendar for Washington State University, product details for an automatic pepper mill and a photo of a guy not wearing much in a public place.  All four of his websites are valid, making him the first person out of four from Alpha who need to help keep Robbie in the game.

Billy from Beta just sends in a single website.  It's a photograph of a streaker at a baseball game.  The host waits for further websites from Billy.

CHALLENGE: OFF TARGET

Meanwhile, as the two MVP's aren't participating in this challenge and could be knocked out of the game by the rest of the team, they are given a chance to defend themselves.  The two of them receive a challenge to do on their own.  The challenge for them is to try and find out how much money is in the opposing team's kitty at the end of this episode.  If their guess is within $25,000 of the real amount, they win both $10,000 for the group's kitty and a free pass into the next episode.  So if the group lose their challenge hunting for webpages, the MVP's can still get through to the next episode with a free pass if their guess is decent.  As a further incentive to show-off their most valuable player skills, if they can guess the other team's kitty exactly, not only do they win $10,000 and a free pass, but the opposing team will also lose $25,000 from their kitty.

Tim doesn't hesitate with this challenge and makes a guess straight away, even before the group have finished the previous challenge.  He guesses the Alpha team will have $200,000 at the end of this episode.  This gives him a range between $175,000 and $225,000.  So if the Alpha team win their scavenger hunt challenge, they won't realise they won't only keep their MVP Robbie in the game, but also Tim for Beta.  Robbie decides not to guess straight away and tries to get the correct information from one of the Beta players...

Back to the scavenger hunt, Daniel sends in a mole website which he claims to have music, but it doesn't so his contribution is invalid.  His interactive game of quintzee, suggested to him by Dan is valid though.

Yves also from Beta sends in a list of websites.  He sends in five just to be on the safe side and all five are valid.  He sends in a Shania Twain interview transcript, a calendar of events for Cartography, a Titanic fan site where music starts playing once you enter it, a website for various kitchen utenisls and a photograph of Henry Kissinger picking his nose.

Sharna is completely confused by the game but sends in a URL given to her by Dan (calendar of events 2000)

Nick from Beta is the next to send in a list of sites.  He sends in the automatic music played by an Australian Mole fan club site, a site where you can purchase knives, but the two URL's for his interview transcript and calendar don't work properly.

Dan is confused by the challenge and thinks four different people must send in one website each.  He sends a URL to his team mates so that the group can win the challenge just by his single efforts, but his misinterpretation of the rules could cost the team the challenge.

Mike from Alpha understands the rules and submits four correct webpages: a site where you can download free midi's but also plays music once it's opened, an interview transcipt with Denise Richards, The 1999 Calendar of Events for the Indonesia Exhibition & Convention Organiser Association, a picture of something you wouldn't do in public (picture changed from time of play and was valid at time - http://funnylane.com/?74)

Dan now understands the challenge and sends in five websites, all of which are valid.  He sends in an interview transcript with Michael Douglas, a site where you can purchase various kitchenware, a site which plays theme music, an interactive game and a Calendar of Events for mplayer.

Only three out of four of Justin's sites are valid.  He sends in an interview with David_Copperfield, a picture of a streaker in a golf game, a site only displaying a kitchen item and a Melrose Place fan site.

Sharna has one site in her list that is invalid, but still she has four valid sites, which is acceptable.  Her sites include an interview with Samantha Mumba, a calendar of events, a Hawthorne fan site, a kitchen buying website and an interactive game site.  Nick complains that the team has stuffed up this challenge, especially because he wasn't able to produce four valid websites.

Steve is the last one to submit websites.  An interview with George Clooney, a cute interactive childrens game and yet again another male nudes in public picutre, all make up the valid sites on Steve's list.  However his kitchen website does not enable a person to buy a kitchen product even though it gives a phone number to contact.

The Alpha Mole sends out another cryptic clue for the group to solve:

"Tick, Tock, Tick, Tock, you will not find me if you look near a PORT but you will find me on a tennis court...must keep myself in good health, you know."
After just the first challenge of the episode, the team's kittys are as follows:

Alpha's Kitty
$  120,000
Beta's Kitty
$  135,000

Both teams eagerly await the results of the two challenges, especially the MVP's.  The MVP's hope either themselves or the team can save their skin.  But most importantly add an extra $80,000 to the kitty.  The two teams take the questionnaires before they hear the results of the challenges.  They are asked how they think the mole is operating.

Sharna: "The mole will try and convince us that they are participating when infact they are not. they are convincing us their questions are right when infact they are wrong."

Dave: "Firstly, to Question Number Nine, Steve made a prediction that he thought Robbie should go with $150,000.  I'm staying with Steve, although I highly doubt it is him. I'm remained in it thus far, why not continue with him. The reason why I don't think it is him now is because he literally did the entire Ultimate Challenge for us. He basically did every single puzzle.  Anyway, a few others have mysteriously got viruses and also just gone away or some rubbish, and we haven't heard much from them. I haven't spoken very much to the group myself either.  Anyway, I wanna click send now, so I will cya all next week in the next episode. Steve is the mole!"

Tim: "So far, Nick has been just sitting back and refusing to communicate unless it's absolutely necessary.  Then he goes and submits some URLs that are misspelled.  He's the only one on my suspicious list right now.  Unfortunately, it could mean that I'm done soon.  Let's hope that I win this free pass."

Isaiah: "This is getting hard...but I go by the motto, "Keep your friends close, but keep your friends even closer!"  I have narrowed the field down to two people.  The Mole has been quiet, and trying to seem like they are winning money for the group...once we gain his confidence...he gets rid of us.  I do think I am on the RIGHT track and warn the mole to watch out for me! "Keep your friends close, keep your enemies even closer!"

Billy: "Dan seems to be in the know on everything.  He somehow figured the other teams kitty prior to the MVP Challenge. Coincidence? I think not. But I am still not 100% sure.  Tim seems to be a strong candidate as well"

Robbie: "I would expect the Mole not to be participating very much in the 'The Ultimate code' challenge. And he didn't. He solved one question and that's it. I didn't hear from him since. He also didn't send in any websites (yet). This week's very scary for me! I hope they will succeed in the challenge, because I don't think I will have the kitty of the others right :(  I don't really think I caught the Mole on anything majorly suspicious, although I did find it very strange that 'someone' changed the profiles in the egroups of thealphateam to 'No Emails'. My Mole said Steve must have been it, but I read that only members with a star in front of their name can change those things. And only him, me and Veronica had such a star. I didn't do it, Veronica is gone, so... And what's even more suspicious, a week later everyone suddenly had that star in front of their names!! I guess the host must have warned the Mole and he changed it.  Anyway, I hope I'll stay, 'cause I think I have the right one, but I will be gutted if I get eliminated even though I have the correct Mole..."

Dan: "I think that I have been one of the more observant people in our group. I have had connections with all of the members except for Nick, Nat and Connor, and two of them are gone...so I have talked with all the others about who is the mole or have convinced the others to give me some information or convinced them that i or someone else is the mole! But I have this "unholy alliance" with Tim...we give each other information and we help each other out in almost every single challenge. I still suspect Tim of being the mole, but with him being the MVP and answering early, I don't think he is...because he wouldn't take a chance with our group. The two that have been acting the most mole-like are Yves and Tim. Yves likes to slow things down and make things deliberate and perfect. He uses this to his advantage to slow us down. He told the group NOT to accept the urls I gave them and implied that he did not trust any of us. Although it sounds like Yves...it could have easily been an attempt to sabotage the group because he wants us to lose this challenge. In the password game, he mysteriously opened up his document and did not mention how he opened it up or any other info. In the knockout quiz he submitted one wrong answer but also submitted two correct answers, thus saving us all. Yves seems very suspicious lately...more than before. Tim during the music challenge, held billy's answer and never mentioned anything about it...if tim had sent back billy's lyric...we could have solved the challenge. Daniel as a mole-like person just is lazy and tries to delay things. Nick delays things also...but I don't heavily suspect either of them (but daniel being the mole would be great redemption from being loser #1 in series #1). Yes, I know, I put Nick as being the mole in q10...but in this episode, everyone but sharna and billy have been HIGHLY suspicious and those that i thought were the mole can easily not be the mole and vice versa. I'm spreading my votes again!...hoping that some people might fall because they bet all their votes on one person. Unless Billy or Nick is the mole, I should be well off because i gave each of them three votes and everyone else has five...and i doubt that everyone else but me will get higher than five...or even three for that matter. As Tim and I have an alliance, I have been trying to save him in the MVP challenge, but my biggest foes were Nick and YVes...Yves for not trusting me and Nick for submitting so many urls (one in which he misspelled "calender"). I'm trying to seem like a mole, and statistically I have...but this challenge I have worked the hardest to get all the challenges, one so robbie goes home and guesses our money incorrectly and two so tim stays and someone else goes. i regret voting tim as a mvp and i should've put just yves...then i would have purposely lost the challenge and sabotaged everything...but for tim, i've ensured that the challenge went well...in fact, the first time i saw the challenge, i found five webpages and sent a different one to other members to submit so that we wouldn't duplicate. hopefully we save tim or he saves himself...whatever happens, i'm still confused as who can be the mole...but i've put it down between tim daniel and yves. if you're wondering why i always suspect tim but never put him down for q10, it's because if he's the mole, i want to give him more points in the secrecy category. ah well, here's too not being eliminated...cheers!"

Mike: "I am expecting the mole to do little things to screw up the challenges.  I have a hunch that it is Justin, and no one else has done anything else out of the ordinary so I am sticking with him.  That and I guessed him on the last two quizzes and I haven't gotten kicked out yet.  I haven't caught him doing anytihng suspicious yet, but no one else has done anything either.  It's a tough game."

Daniel: "I would expect the mole to get a bit daring now and start doing major stuff up. Our kitty is rising and our team all agree we have more than the other team. I don't know if i have found the mole doing anything major, but plenty of minor things."

Justin: "I'm expecting the mole to only sabotage when they know that it would be difficult to detect there sabotage efforts. I have caught people doing many "Mole Like" things but I'm starting to think that some people are just trying to act like the mole in order to eliminate other contestants. At the moment I'm still suspecting BLAKE. I don't know why, for me it just gut feeling. He has also had very little to do with completing the challenges this episode. But if BLAKE is the mole I guess that by doing nothing he was sabotaging our efforts anyway."

Yves: "I expect the mole either: to make mistakes so obvious that other players will suspect diversion from another player; or to be an involved, group oriented player, blame mistakes on others and not try to sabotage every single challenge.  I don't know if they are the mole, but some players have been acting suspicious. They may be doing it on purpose, to divert the attention from the real mole. Billy sent his music line answer to Tim instead of the host. Dan didn't even show up for his task - playing a board game against the host. Nick didn't tell the team wheter or not he had
opened his file."

Blake: "I'm still very unsure of the mole's identity, so I think the mole is sabotaging things very well.  I have narrowed it down to 2 or 3 people, though.  Dave's comment about Veronica after she was eliminated made me very suspicious, but I don't think that was mole activity.  I'm also suspicious about Isaiah's "computer trouble".  But, until I see anything really incriminating, I'm going with Mike.  He's flying very low under the radar, and I think that it's likely that he was the one who impersonated me during the knockout challenge."

Nick: "Mole activity........very little and suttle.  We have kind of been stuffing our own challenges up so he hasn't had to do much!!  He has had little things like failing in the 'Committed' and kind of putting us on te wronf track for the 'Ultimate password' !! I think he will be in a lot of action later!!! Hopefuly my suspicious actions (ie. being a little less 'active' than last series) and kind of acting 'mole - like' will convice people that I'm the mole!!  Personally I hope Tim doesn't go!!! He earns us money, and is a likeable guy!! I'm finding Sharna a nice girl, yet a bit useless!! definatly NOT the mole!!"

Steve: "Ok.  First let me say that this game rocks.  We're starting to come to the hard part of the game, where it is really easy to vote wrong and get knocked out, and I just wanted to say I've had a ball, just in case.  Well, I expect the mole to do exactly what he has been doing all along - being duplicitous and deceitful.  It's been interesting - whilst I haven't caught him red handed, I'm sure of three things.  That being the three most likely Mole's in my opinion at this stage of the game.  In order, Justin, Dave, Blake.  I've pretty much discounted Isaiah, Mike and Robbie.  Having said this, I think Justin and Dave are the two I'm sticking with for now.  It'll probably be Blake in the end *sigh*, but it's time to make a call.  Justin has been my pick really since the start.  He's done very subtle things which have impacted on our effectiveness, such as being unclear, providing a perfect lack of assistance, and being around after somethings been done or irregularly.  Dave, well he's quite dark in a lot of ways.  He's has that not-quite-so-enthusiastic part about him, which makes me wonder about quite a bit..  As for Blake, well he and Justin could have easily sent the host a post under false pretences with the wrong answer's, I'm sure of it.  And it was a very ingenious thing to do, if that helps counting towards the award for the Mole at the end.  I hope I'm here next week.  I'm really getting into this. See you Friday (maybe)."

The final results for the Scavenger Hunt are in.  The groups needed four out of the six people to submit four out of six valid websites.  Alpha team only had four out of the six participating as Dave and Isaiah didn't even contribute.  Justin and Steve didn't manage to reach their target of 4 valid websites, leaving only two people, Blake and Mike that succeeded in the challenge.  However, two aren't enough to keep Robbie in the game.

Beta worked better as a whole, but still Billy, Daniel and Nick didn't reach their target of 4 valid websites giving Beta only three out of the required four people with four valid websites.  $70,000 goes begging for them as well.

Now the only way for Robbie and Tim to stay in the game is how close their guess is about the other team's kitty.  Robbie finally makes his guess.  He isn't very confident and thinks Beta has $225,000.  His guess is $90,000 off target.  Tim's early guess of $200,000 was $80,000 off target.  So neither MVP could save themselves from the consequence caused by the rest of the team's failure...or was it just clever work from the Mole.  Either way, neither of them make it to Episode Five.
