Once Upon a Lifetime – By Kazza Part 56
The following weeks were spent trawling through the wedding magazines and starting the preparations for their unique day. Although she didn’t know what she wanted for her special day, Liz was certain she didn’t want the ‘normal’ and socially accepted type of wedding. She didn’t want hundreds of people, a huge white dress, church etc, she wanted her day to be very simple. Inside her heart, Liz knew she wouldn’t be comfortable with many people staring at her all day. She found it hard enough with Max’s adoration of her, having many faces staring and smiling would just make her run to the nearest bathroom for safety. This was to be the day she’d dreamed about for so long, she certainly wasn’t going to spend it feeling uncomfortable. Max backed Liz all the way in her ideas for their day. All he wanted and cared about was that his family and close friends were there to share the day; they were the people who really meant something to him. As they entered the dress shop, Liz felt a shiver run down her spine. It was the first time she’d stepped inside a wedding shop, to try on dresses and it felt strange to finally set foot into shops that she’d only ever glanced at from afar. “Come on Liz!” Isabelle said excitedly, as she linked arms with Maria and Liz and practically pulled them both into the quaint shop. The doorbell made a tinkling noise as they pushed it open and headed into the shop. Staring around, Liz noted rails and rails of wedding dresses, dresses that to each bride walking in denoted the quest for their ‘dream’ dress. From straight simple dresses to full train ‘puffy’ dresses, all types, styles and colours were catered for in the shop. The shop assistant watched from afar for a few moments, surveying the three girls and trying to decide which one was the bride to be. All three girls seemed excited to be in the shop, but one seemed to stand out as the leader of the pack. Seeing the tall blond girl pulling out a few dresses, the assistant assumed it was she who was getting married. “Can I help you mam? Are you the bride to be?” She asked Isabelle gently. “Oh no, it’s Liz here who is getting married.” Isabelle said enthusiastically, pointing to her friend. “Oh I’m sorry Liz. Well I’m Sandra and I can help you with anything you need. We’ve got plenty of dresses to choose from. Do you have a style in mind?” Sandra asked the petit girl. Surveying her, Sandra struggled to accept out of the three young women it was the quiet one who was getting married. Liz, as she now knew her as, seemed to be hanging back slightly, perhaps in awe of everything happening around her. “Erm no, I haven’t really thought about it.” Liz replied honestly, slightly dazed by all the attention. Being surrounded by so many beautiful dresses, it was quite hard to decided where to start. “Ok, then how about you try on some of the dresses and see what you like?” Sandra suggested, sensing Liz needed a helping hand in the right direction. “Oh yes Liz! Maria and Isabelle added enthusiastically. “Erm …………. Ok then.” Liz replied, looking at her friends excited faces and finally giving in to their enthusiasm. Ten minutes later, they had picked out five dresses for Liz to try on, all varying styles, and the five of them adjourned to the large changing room. Undoing her cardigan, Liz stood in the room with her black jeans and light green tank top on. Silently pleased she’d put on her ‘nice’ underwear, she slowly pulled the top up and over her head. Gently easing her jeans down, Liz suddenly felt very self-conscious. It wasn’t that she was afraid of showing her body, more the fact that everyone else in the room was fully clothed apart from her. “Ok Liz, let’s go for this dress first.” Sandra said, taking the first dress out of its clear dust bag. Carefully helping Liz into the dress, Sandra zipped the back up and then helped Liz into the centre of the room. The dress was a heavy white satin beaded dress, and Liz knew the moment she looked in the mirror it wasn’t for her. The style was far too heavy for her slight frame, and much too over the top for the style of wedding she was planning. “Nope!” Isabelle and Maria agreed in unison. The next dress was a soft ivory colour with lightly coloured embroidered flowers on the bodice. Although it was a very pretty dress, Liz knew it wasn’t the type she wanted for her wedding. She was after a simple dress to suit the style of person she was, simple and unfussy. “I want something simple, straight, very light.” Liz informed Sandra, trying to get to try on a dress that would actually suit her, and be more what she was looking for. “Hmm, light and straight huh? ……… I know just the one for you.” Sandra quickly said, disappearing for a few moments back to the mass of dresses out the front of the shop. When she came back, Sandra pulled a dress out of its bag. It was a simple dress, just like Liz had requested. The dress was a soft cream colour, thin straps, straight skirt part with a split up the back and front. The back of the dress had a plunging back-line adding to the completeness of the outfit. As she climbed into the dress, Liz saw Sandra taking something else of the rail, looking at it, Liz couldn’t help but smile. Sandra had pulled out a soft ivory see-through chiffon coat like object. It was very simple, a collar, a single button that would sit just below Liz’s bust, and the back of the coat trailed out at the back exposing a short train. Slipping the coat on over her dress, Liz slowly walked to the centre of the room and stared into the image in the huge mirror on the wall. Another shiver pulsed down her spine at the image she saw. Tears welled in her eyes as she took in the reflection in the mirror. She couldn’t believe it was really her. The girl in the mirror was so beautiful, the dress so perfect, that girl looked a million dollars, and Liz struggled to acknowledge that it was really she in the mirror. “Oh Liz you look amazing!” Maria exclaimed to her friend. “That’s the one Liz, that’s the dress for you.” Isabelle added, affirming what Maria had just said. “They’re right Liz, that dress was made for you.” Sandra said. “I love it …….. it’s just what I was looking for.” Liz affirmed, choking back the emotion in her face. She’d done it, she’d finally found the dress of her dreams, so simple yet so amazing perfect, just the type of dress she’d pictured getting married in as a young girl. “Then I think you’ve made an excellent choice.” Sandra added.
After paying for the dress and arranging to have the alterations done, Liz, Isabelle and Maria all exited the shop. “Oh Liz, I can’t wait to see Max’s reaction to your dress. He’s just gonna be totally speechless.” Isabelle said excitedly. “I really hope so.” Liz replied, smiling to herself. Suddenly her wedding had become so much more of a reality to Liz. It had all been a bit of a blur before she’d tried the dress on but at that moment she really felt like a prospective bride-to-be. “So, how did the dress hunting go?” Max enquired as he heard Liz and Isabelle return home. “Great actually.” Liz replied, beaming a huge smile his way. “Mmmm, I can see that.” He replied, pulling her close for a kiss. It didn’t take long for the kiss to escalate, quickly turning from an innocent peck to a full blown kiss raising the room temperature up a few degrees. Slipping his hands from her waist, he allowed them to rest gently on her behind and caressed it gently. At that moment, both Max and Liz forgot completely where they were or who was with them, only concentrating solely on the kiss and the feelings it conjured up. “Oh please guys! Some of us have only just eaten!” Isabelle protested lightheartedly, watching the two of them and feeling slightly jealous that Alex wasn’t around to show her affection at that moment. “Sorry
Sis.” Max replied, reluctantly
breaking the kiss. “So babe, are
you ready to go house hunting this afternoon?”
Max added. “Great, well I’ve set up a few appointments, and we’ll just see if we like any of the places.” Max replied, kissing her softly once more. As Max was spending more and more time at Liz’s and less and less time at his own apartment, they both agreed it made much more sense to get a place together. Liz was only renting her apartment, and Isabelle had mumbled ideas to do with her and Alex, so it just seemed like the logical idea. Since they intended to move in as soon as they got married anyway, Max wanted to buy a place giving them plenty of time to do it up before moving in properly after their wedding. “And this is the main bedroom with ensuite bathroom.” The estate agent showed them. It was the third house Max and Liz had visited that afternoon, but none of them had got quite what they were looking for. It was Max who was being fussier than Liz. To him he wasn’t just going to just buy a house, it was going to be a place for him and Liz to live and build their lives together, to raise their children in, it had to be perfect. If the garden was too small, or the bedrooms not light enough then the house wasn’t right. He only wanted the best for Liz, she deserved it. For Liz though, the whole walking round houses was a little unnerving for her. She’d only ever had one place in New York, her rented apartment; she’d only looked at that one place and snapped it up because the rent was reasonable. Looking round so many grand houses started Liz wondering what Max saw in her. She didn’t come from a high-class family, or have any money; she wasn’t like Max at all. She really couldn’t understand what it was Max like about her. “What’s wrong Liz?” Max asked, as they pulled up outside the fourth house they were viewing that afternoon. “Hmm? Oh nothing.” Liz brushed him off. “Yes there is, I can tell. Talk to me, please?” Max probed, taking hold of her hand and caressing it with his. “Ok then. I guess I was just wondering, why are you going out with me Max?” Liz said quite bluntly, finally turning to look at him. “Huh? Where’d this come from?” Max queried, stunned by her words. “I don’t know. When we were walking around that last house it just sort of hit me how different I am to you Max. I don’t come from a posh rich family; I’ve never lived in such grant homes or had such luxuries. Why me Max? When you could have had the pick of any girl in the state.” She replied honestly. “Oh Liz!” Max sighed, realising his fiancée was having one of her rare melt down moments. He was used to it by now, and could read the signs much easier. Liz occasionally had these moments where she questioned everything that was happening around her, analysing her life in too greater detail. Sometimes he wished Liz could just accept everything, but then he knew that her insecurities were part of her endearment, a personality trait whereby she just expected things to be taken away from her as quickly as they arrived. It was that insecurity that made Max love her even more, his need to reassure her that things were ok made him feel useful. “I chose you because you’re special. Yes these houses are very large and posh, but they are only objects Liz. I want the very best for you because you deserve it. Yes I’ve got money, I won’t deny that, I have worked hard to get where I am so why can’t I spend it on the woman I love?” “Because I don’t deserve it Max.” Liz replied with much sincerity in her voice. “But you do Liz, you deserve so much more than even I could give you. I know you had a rough time with your parents, but you must get over this feeling of being low down and not worth it. You are the most amazing woman I have ever met Liz Parker, and I want to shower you with as much love as I possibly can.” Max said honestly, before pulling her into his arms. Her body shook gently as he held her tightly; Max assumed she was sobbing gently into his shoulder. Rubbing her back, he tried to soothe her fears, letting her know he was there right with her. When she eventually emerged from his embrace, she wiped away the few tears that had escaped, feeling silly at the show she’d just put on for Max. She hadn’t meant to cry; he had just made her feel so very special in his simple words. Sometimes she couldn’t explain how he made her fee, how just plain words could turn her insides to jelly and her head fuzzy. He always knew just the right things to say to reassure her and make Liz feel safe and wanted once more. “You ok?” He asked gently, as they got out of the car. “Yeah, I’m really sorry about that.” Liz replied sheepishly, looking to the ground. “Hey don’t worry …….. Just let me know any time you have a crisis of confidence, and I’ll make you feel better again.” Max smiled, taking hold of her hand and squeezing it gently before leading them up to the estate agent. Opening the door and stepping inside, both Liz and Max felt an instant pull to the house. The hall way was large and inviting, framed by a beautifully ornate staircase on the right side. Walking into the lounge area, Max took in how sunny and bright the room was, the calming colours on the wall making it feel very warm. The kitchen was large and very well laid out, Liz thought, and the bedrooms were an ample size, especially the master bedroom which was also equipped with an ensuite bathroom. There was even an adequately sized study just off the hallway that was perfect for Max to use as an extension to his office. But it was the garden that sealed it for both Max and Liz. It was a very large garden, with a quaint shed at the very end. Trees shaded the bottom of the garden, with a beautiful rock fountain a little bit away from the trees. As they stepped back inside, they both secretly knew they’d found their dream home. “How about I give you two a few minutes to look around on your own, I’ll just wait in the lounge.” The estate agent offered. Heading back upstairs, they looked around once more, and found themselves standing in one of the large bedrooms upstairs. “So ….. what do you think?” Max asked Liz, watching her staring out of the window into the garden below. “Truth?” “Truth.” “Well ……….. I love it Max! It’s perfect; it’s like a dream house. There’s everything here, five big bedrooms, a study for you, and a garden that’s just beautiful.” Liz replied honestly, her face glowing with the euphoria she was feeling. “Good, then we’ll take it.” Max announced, pulling her body closer to his. “But what about you? You have to like it too Max.” Liz told him, afraid he was only saying yes to please her. “Oh I do Liz, I like it very much.” Max said, looking around the empty room he was in. In her mind, Liz could feel herself starting to plan out what the rooms could be used for. This room, she thought, was very bright and sunny, not too good as a bedroom since it would keep their children awake, but perfect for a playroom. The other three rooms would be fine as bedrooms, and then the master bedroom for her and Max, yes that would work perfectly, she thought satisfyingly. “What are you thinking about?” Max asked, seeing the distant look on his fiancée’s face. “Well ………. I was just thinking how nice this room would be for a playroom actually.” Liz admitted, feeling a bit shy at where her mind had been wandering. She wasn’t completely ready for children at that moment, yet she still found herself planning out the rooms in her head.
“Really? I think that would be a lovely use of this room, I’m sure our children would love a playroom in here.” Max replied, pulling her into his arms. Resting his chin on the top of her head, Max found himself thinking the same thing as Liz; he really couldn’t wait for their house to be filled with children borne out of their immense love for each other. “I think we should go and put in an offer, before someone else snaps it up.” Max suggested. “I think that would be a good idea.” Liz replied smiling. Leaving the room earmarked for a playroom, Max and Liz headed back downstairs to put in an offer on their dream house, and make their wedding and step closer to reality.
Part 57
Stepping off the boat, Liz felt her breath taken away instantly. The scenery around her was like something from a dream, a holiday brochure, a stunningly painted picture. Yet this picture was so very real and so very perfect. “You like it?” Max asked softly, walking up behind his fiancée, looking at her he could see the disbelief and amazement registered in her face. “Like it? Max I love it, it’s perfect.” Liz squealed, throwing her arms around his neck and hugging him tightly. It had been the one main job Max had to do for their wedding, but it was a very important job. They’d both decided they wanted their wedding day to be quiet, discrete and above all only open to immediate family and friends. To Max and Liz, their day meant more if they were only surrounded by people who truly meant something to them. With that in mind, they’d decided on the only perfect place to get married, a beautiful deserted beach. Max had taken to the task eagerly, determined to find Liz the best, most beautiful beach possible, and he’d managed it. They were on their own little island, just pure white sand, clear blue water, a couple of huts for accommodation and the odd palm tree for cover. It really was the most perfect untouched place imaginable. It was pure paradise to every person who set foot on the sacred dusty soft sand. “Wow Max, this place is amazing.” Isabelle said, climbing off the boat next. “I’m glad you approve Is.” Max replied, a huge grin spread over his face as he looked around at his family and friends to gauge their reaction to his choice of venue for the wedding. Walking along the jetty, Liz and Maria both slipped off their sandals and stepped on to the hot sand. Behind them they could hear a screech of laughter, as Alex scooped Isabelle into his arms. Charging full pelt towards the water, Isabelle’s squeals of protest became louder as Alex pretended to start to drop her into the cool, clear water. “No! Alex!” She squealed, trying to sound forceful. “Ok,
I’ll let you get changed into your bikini first then!”
He relented, walking out of the sea and placing her down on the warm,
white sand. “Oh lighten up Is ………. we’re in paradise!” He grinned happily, opening his arms and spinning around on the spot to emphasise his words. “Who votes for getting changes and hitting the water?” Maria asked, before receiving a very favourable response back. Following the other girls, Liz headed into one of the larger huts. It was to be her ‘home’ for that night, everyone agreeing segregation was best. It was, after all, bad luck for Max to see Liz on the morning of their wedding. Just the thought of it sent shockwaves through the whole of her body. She couldn’t believe her wedding day was nearly upon them. It had gone so fast, yet dragged all at the same time. Sometimes, when she thought about it, it seemed like she’d only known Max for a very short time, which in truth she had. But, when she thought about everything they’d been through together, she felt like she’d known him forever. All she really knew for sure was the following day she’d be the happiest and luckiest girl alive. “Come on girl, the sea awaits!” Maria chivvied, breaking Liz from her Max induced daydream. Foraging around in her bag Liz pulled out her red bikini and aqua blue sarong. Ushering her friend out, Liz quickly changed and emerged from her room ready for the sun. Towels in hand, they stepped outside and followed the sound of the music. On the beach already were the guys, blaring out Bon Jovi’s ‘Living on a prayer; to get everybody loosened up and in the mood for some fun. “Ahhh, now I can dunk you!” Alex announced wickedly, spotting Isabelle in her yellow bikini. Max couldn’t help but smile as Alex started chasing Isabelle around the tiny island. It was so nice to see his sister being carefree and relaxed. She’d changed so much since her ‘ice princess’ days, no longer the stubborn, ruthless workaholic she’d been in the days before she’d allowed Alex to enter her life and share the good times. Max certainly had a lot to thank Alex for, and he made a mental note to thank his friend verbally when the right moment arose. Max’s grin dropped instantly though, when he spotted his soon to be wife. Max couldn’t deny Liz looked an amazing vision of beauty. Her hair was gently pilled up with a few strands framing her face, her tiny red bikini accentuated her slim figure, and the aqua blue sarong loosely tied around her waist just oozed class. “Wow, you look ……….. amazing.” He said, walking up and slipping his arms around her waist. “This? Oh it’s nothing, just wait until tomorrow!” She replied, brushing off his compliment before she started blushing. Pulling her close, Max couldn’t resist leaning in to kiss her. Moving one hand to behind her head and the other to the small of her back, Max instantly deepened the kiss. Eagerly accepting the onslaught, Liz melted into his arms, allowing the all too familiar feelings wash over her. Allowing the towel in her hand to drop to the sand with a soft thud, Liz wrapped her arms around his body, stroking the nape of his neck just the way he liked it. She knew doing this was a one-way ticket to make Max Evans loose complete control, and that was just what she intended. She wasn’t sure if it was the wonderful surrounds, the heat or their impending wedding, but she wanted Max more than ever before. Things were rapidly getting out of hand; Max could feel his self-control beginning to dwindle fast, along with his control over his body. Being so close to Liz, knowing she had very little clothes on, his body took on a will of its own. Kissing her was one thing, but physically groping her in public was something completely else. He was a grown man, but Max had no aspirations to show physical evidence of his attraction to Liz to his parents. His body’s reaction to her was something he couldn’t hide no matter what he did. Breaking apart, Max rested his forehead against Liz’s in an attempt to regain control. “I think we need to cool down.” He whispered as he dragged in deep breaths, knowing he couldn’t really whisk Liz off and make love to her while everyone was watching. “Ok.” She breathed reluctantly against his chest knowing her plan had been foiled, the cool and collected Max Evans was back in control once more.
By this time Alex had dunked Isabelle more than once and Isabelle was in the process of revenge. Michael and Maria were too engrossed in laughing at their friends to even notice Max and Liz entering the water. Whispering something in her ear, Liz nodded eager acceptance and quietly stepped further into the sea. Coming up behind their friends, Max and Liz couldn’t resist splashing Michael and Maria, taking them completely by surprise and dousing their friends in cool, clear seawater. “What the ……….!” Michael yelled as Maria squealed. “Right that’s it!” Michael added, needing to seek revenge on his best friends. An all out water fight ensued with plenty of laughter, squealing and fun on all six friends’ parts. Watching from the safety and dryness of the shore, Diane and Philip couldn’t help but smile at their children and friends.
“That they are Philip. I think it’s really great how they’ve all become so close, just look at them having so much fun out there.” She replied. “It’s great to see. I mean Max, Isabelle, Michael they used to work so hard, it’s nice to see them having some fun once in a while.” Philip replied, taking hold of his wife’s hand and squeezing it gently. Once the novelty of the water fight had worn off, the six friends exited the water to dry off and relax a bit. Shaking out her towel, Liz sat down and reached for her bottle of suntan lotion. Her fair skin burnt easily, and the last thing she wanted was sunstroke on the day of her wedding. “Here, let me.” Max offered, taking the lotion from her hands. Instructing Liz to lay on her stomach, Max deftly undid the snap to her bikini and poured a little of the lotion into his hands. Rubbing them together Max carefully placed his hands on Liz’s back and applied the cool cream. To onlookers, Max was merely applying cream to avoid Liz getting sunburnt, but to Liz it was so much more. She could feel his fingertips kneading her muscles, slipping his hands down her back to the top of her bikini bottoms before moving back up again. Every so often his fingers would slip just below the material, making her jump slightly, and her body hot up. He was teasing her, plain and simple, and he was enjoying every moment of feeling Liz squirming under his expert touch. By the time he had finished, Liz felt like she was on fire. The warm sensation in the pit of her stomach was rising rapidly to coat her whole body. Deep breaths into her lungs did very little or anything to quell the raging heat she felt consume her body at that moment. As she turned to face Max, she saw his eyes blazing with passion for her, mirroring the feelings she had drowning her body at that very moment. Liz’s breath caught in her throat slightly, and instantly knew the only way to quell her desire was to fuel it more. Scooting away slightly, she sat up on her knees, faced Max and lent into him. Placing her hands on his tanned chest, she ran her fingers along the contours of his body for a few moments. Allowing her eyes to drop away from his face, Liz could tell the massage had created an effect on Max also, the sudden tightness of his shorts very evident to anyone looking. “Let’s disappear for a while.” He whispered hoarsely into her ear, rising to his feet and taking hold of her hand. Leading her away, they headed into the cabin the guys were using and straight into Max’s room. Neither paused to look back to see if anyone had noticed, both caring only about the other. Laying her down gently on the bed, Max sat down and slowly undid the sarong that was around her waist. Running his fingers across her bare stomach, he felt Liz suck in a breath of air. She looked so beautiful, her hair tousled from the dampness, her dark brown eyes blazing ferociously with love, her soft skin glistening with a hint of the coconut oil he’d spread over her. Leaning down, he replaced his fingers with his lips, placing delicate kisses across her stomach and worked his way slowly upwards until he finally met her lips once more. Devouring her lips, the urgency they both felt came across in the kiss. It was forceful and full of passion, dictating the pace of how they were going to proceed. Reaching round, Max made light work of the snap to her bikini top, and soon it was dropped in a pile on the cabin floor. Pulling his body flush with hers, Liz marvelled at the feel of his bare chest against her soft skin. Running her fingers across his shoulder blades, she moved to his back and caressed his muscles. Lifting her leg so that it was bend on the bed, Max ran his hands up the length of it, stopping just as he reached the juncture of her hip. Her body squirmed under his touch, needing to satisfy the hunger raging inside. Running his fingers along the edge of her bikini bottoms, Max teased her for a few moments longer, before finally brushing the pads of his fingers across her sensitive area. It was the lightest of touches, but Liz felt her head spin. She felt so hot inside, her need to go further so great. Slipping her hands further down his back, Liz met the waistband to his swimming shorts. Running her fingers around his hips she finally went down further to cup his heat. Teasing and taunting each other, they both kept going, right up to the brink before ceasing their control on the other. Shedding her bikini bottoms and then his swimming shorts, Max then returned to lay full length on top of Liz. Caressing her cheek for a moment, partly because he wanted to and partly so he could regain a little of his diminishing control, Max then gently pushed inside. Joining as one, they both sighed at the feeling of fulfilment. Stilling for a moment, they both took in the wonderful joy of being together. Moving gently inside her, tried to hold on to his deteriorating composure. He so wanted to be soft and gentle with Liz, but his body was having none of it, taking on a will of its own. Moving into his thrusts, Liz helped to up the pace as they both pushed towards their mutual goal. Urgency and need pushed them further, as pure wantonness forced them to the brink of sanity. “Oh Max!” She sobbed softly, the feelings inside her body engulfing Liz and crashed through her at an alarming rate. Feeling them both very close to the edge, Max fused his lips to Liz’s in an attempt to contain the moans they were both emitting. It was a subconscious reaction on his part, the last thing he wanted was someone to hear their passion-induced screams and come running to check on them Their cries of passion were swallowed up as they came together, amazing feeling after amazing feeling slamming through their bodies with such intensity they could barely catch a breath. When they eventually came down from the amazing high, they stayed in the clinch for a few moments, before reluctantly getting dressed. “I guess we’d better go back before they send out a search party.” Max said unwillingly. He wanted nothing more than to stay with Liz in the bed all day, but he knew there would be more than a few eyebrows raised if he did that. It was bad enough sneaking off like they had, it was a small island and Max was sure at least somebody must have seen them. It wasn’t that he minded too much, it was just that he didn’t want to broadcast his sex life with Liz to all and sundry, especially his parents. They were liberated people, and their son was way past being old enough, but flaunting it in front of his parents made Max feel just a little uncomfortable. That evening, Philip arranged the barbecue, cooking steaks, sausages and hamburgers for the hungry mass. Everyone chatted, most blissfully unaware of Liz’s quietness, most that was except for Max. He could tell that although she was content lying in his arms, she wasn’t communicating as much as normal. Her silence was almost deafening to him, he could tell she was deep in thought about something. “You ok babe?” He enquired, stroking her hair gently and enjoying the silky feeling of the strands. “Yeah, just ……… just thinking about this time tomorrow.” She replied wistfully. “Ahhh, I know that one. This time tomorrow when you will make me the happiest man alive …… by becoming my wife.” He whispered quietly into her ear. The hairs on the back of his neck instantly stood up on end at the mere thought of what the following day held in store for them. “I can’t wait.” She replied, a smile spreading over her face. “Right, I think it’s time for bed now.” Diane announced, seeing how sleepy everyone was getting. “Yeah, I’m beat!” Alex exclaimed. “That serves you right for chasing me from the moment we set foot on this island.” Isabelle retorted gently. “Ahh, but it was worth it.” Alex grinned back. “I guess so.” Max replied slightly reluctantly. He didn’t relish the thought of allowing Liz to vacate his arms. He’d got used to sleeping with Liz, and even spending one night away from her felt wrong. They hadn’t spent a night apart in quite a long time, not least since she’d lost the baby. He had a strong feeling it was going to be a very long and lonely night. He knew he had no choice though; he didn’t want to jinx them before they’d even said their vows. “I love you Liz.” He said, as they reached the doorway to her cabin. “I love you too Max.” She replied, reaching in and kissing him passionately. Leaning her up against the outside of the cabin, Max couldn’t resist the urge to deepen the kiss. His hands ran up her bare sides, pushing away the light chiffon see through over-shirt she was wearing. Liz too pulled Max’s lower body close and instantly felt the desire pulsing rapidly through his body. After a few minutes, Max knew he had to end their passionate clinch before it ran seriously out of hand. Breaking apart, he put a few inches of distance between them as if to help his sanity. It took all his willpower, more than he knew he possessed, to walk away from Liz at that moment. “Until tomorrow babe ……….. when you will become Mrs Liz Evans forever and we’ll never be apart again.” He said, kissing her hand softly like the perfect gentleman, before slipping away into the darkness. Liz was left leaning against the side of the cabin taking in deep breaths in an attempt to regain her composure. He’d succeeded in making her stomach flip violently when he’d said those words, ‘Mrs Liz Evans’. Her hand trembling slightly, Liz turned the handle to the cabin and stepped inside. Sharing a room with Maria was always going to be fun, she thought, and she was right. It took them an age to finally agree to get some sleep, both girls chatting and giggling about life, work and guys. It was the perfect bonding session for them, and as she laid down to sleep, Liz was grateful for such a wonderful friend in Maria. She was the type of friend Liz had always dreamed of having, funny, caring and above all fiercely loyal to Liz. Just another reason to be grateful for the job at Evans Associates, Liz thought. Closing her eyes, Liz tried to get some much-needed sleep. Her mind had other ideas though. She couldn’t stop thinking about what would happen the following day. Images of what lie ahead rolled through her mind, practically driving her insane with excitement. Climbing out of the bed, Liz walked over to the window in her room. Staring outside, she watched the moon shine and the light wind gently whip around the branches of the palm trees. Everything looked so peaceful, yet she still felt so very alone. Digging out her personal CD player, Liz clicked ‘play’ on the CD she had brought with her.
Somewhere
out there, beneath the pale moonlight Someone’s
thinking of me, and loving me tonight Somewhere
out there, someone’s saying a prayer That we’ll find one another, in that big somewhere out there
The song seemed perfect for her at that very moment. Liz was wondering what Max was doing. Was he sound asleep dreaming peacefully, or was he doing the very same thing, staring out of the window wondering about her, unable to allow his body to relax into a deep sleep.
And
even if though I know how very far apart we are It
helps to think we might be wishing on the same bright star And
when the night wind starts to sing a lonesome lullaby It helps to think we’re sleeping underneath the same big sky
He didn’t know what she was doing at that very moment, probably blissfully asleep, dreaming peacefully he thought. But he couldn’t sleep; he couldn’t stop thinking about their special day that would soon be upon them. He felt so excited he couldn’t control it. That was something he wasn’t used to feeling, normally he was able to control his emotions, or at least make it seem that way to others. But it was plainly obvious to all onlookers that he was truly eager to marry Liz Parker.
Somewhere
out there, if love can see us through Then
we’ll be together, Somewhere out there, out where dreams come true
Finally giving in to her body’s relentless need for sleep, Liz laid gently down on her bed, all the while listening to the song streaming quietly out of her headphones. Slowly she drifted into a relaxed state, the words of the song still swimming around her mind.
And
even if though I know how very far apart we are It
helps to think we might be wishing on the same bright star And
when the night wind starts to sing a lonesome lullaby It helps to think we’re sleeping underneath the same big sky
Quietly slipping back into his bed, Max finally closed his eyes, his mind filling with images of Liz, his beautiful bride to be. As he gently slipped into a calm sleep his mind registered one important fact, when he woke up it would finally be the day of his wedding, the day he married the most beautiful girl in the whole of the world.
Somewhere
out there, if love can see us through Then
we’ll be together Somewhere out there, out where dreams come true
