CHAPTER 16: MIXED FEELINGS

"Wrong? Uh, no," said Johnny nervously.

Clark used his super-hearing to listen to the rate of Johnny's heartbeat.

He's jumpy and nervous, thought Clark.

Johnny had mixed feelings. Run, run, get away from Clark, thought the scared part of Johnny. No, ask Clark, no BEG Clark to come with me to the bunkhouse, thought the adventurous part of Johnny as he tried to picture how Clark would look without any clothes on.

Then Johnny saw Bill coming out of the bunkhouse.

I wonder if those two are an item, wondered Johnny. Clark did say he had asked Bill to go into town with him. And they do make an attractive couple.

Then Johnny felt a twinge of guilt. Here he was as an invited guest of Haus and Little Jo. But instead of chatting up his hosts he found himself fantasing about being with Clark. Tall, handsome, dark-haired, incredibly built Clark.

Johnny noticed that Bill wasn't shabby-looking either. Tall, lean, muscular, blond and a face very pleasing to look upon.

Gahhh, thought Johnny. I'm surrounded by gorgeous guys. What to do, what to do.

Just then Haus called out to them from the house.

"Are you three going to just stand outside, or are you going to come in and have breakfast? Can't start the day on an empty stomach."

Johnny grinned. He headed for the house. Clark and Bill followed.

I could be mistaken, thought Bill, but it sure looks to me like Clark is checking out Johnny's rear end. Oh, well. It's none of my business. Mmm, do I smell pancakes, bacon and eggs?
