Stepping out of his car a man, on the verge of adulthood, walked to the cliff overlooking the water reservoir. A young woman was already standing there, the wind playing with her hair.

For a while they just stood there side by side, enjoying the morning noises. The chirping of the crickets, the whizzing of the wings of a few stray birds, the cabbling of the water, the wind in their faces, ...

Both looked at the horizon where a red glow was rapidly spreading. Instinctively they reached out for each other's hand at the same time.

"So beautiful." Maria murmered, her eyes never leaving the hazy red horizon.

Alex agreed, he knew that she didn't just mean the rising sun but the beginning of another day, a day full of life. The last sunrise they'd probably ever see. "So peaceful."

This time she nodded her head, knowing what he wasn't saying aloud. Pictures of a planet in ruins flew in front of her eyes, smoke, fire, dust, corpses, decay... A tear escaped from beneath her eyelashes. "Strange that people don't stop to admire it more often."

Alex sighed heavily, also burdened with the awful memories. "People don't notice things until they're no longer there."

She leaned her head on his shoulder and he hugged her to his side, his head resting on her golden curls. The sun was now just above the horizon. "Another day, another gift."

"Tomorrow it's gonna happen."Alex broke their comfortable silence.

Maria nodded. "Do you think they're ready?"

"They have to be, it's out of our hands now. We've brought them together, the four royals, the humans, even the sheriff." Alex mused.

With teary eyes she looked up at him. "Do you think they'll remember?" He gave her a questioning look. "That we never existed before the day of the shooting. That we never existed at all really."

"I don't know." Alex answered her truthfully.

"A year, 365 days to change the future of an entire universe. Do you now that I can feel it sliping away from me, ever so slightly ..."She shook her head ruefully. "I still hate the fact that we had to shoot Liz."

"It was the only way to get Elizabeth Parker into it. The only way to form an alliance between the humans and Antarrans." His voice was all business but Maria could detect a twinge of regret in his eyes. They'd both gotten so attached to them in the expanse of a year.

The air was filled with silence again, one weighing heavily on the lone persons.

A heavy sigh broke it. "I'll miss her."

Comfortingly Maria put her arms around him. "I know, Isabel will miss you too. She loves you, you know, even if she's too scared to admit it to herself."

"And Michael loves you." His voice was hoarse with unspoken sadness.

Using her thumb she swept a tear of his face. "They have each other know. They will save our worlds. And maybe one day ..."
