Bianca was sitting atop the Pine Valley Cemetery's hill. It was cold that day, enough for her to break out her old gray sweatshirt. Her late father gave it to her. It was soft and worn in like an old comfortable pair of shoes you never throw away. Plucking the grass that was browning from falls arrival she gazed at the people below. Some were old, some young. A few brought flowers in attempts of brightening the landscape surrounding their loved ones. Some came searching for old family members, some came to pay respect to parents and grandparents. She watched their faces; these unknown people all sharing the common bond of loss and grief. The thought of her own death haunted her for a brief but disturbing moment. 'What would they say to me? God, I'll miss you. Thanks for being there. You always could make me laugh. I need you. Please don't let this be happening.' She shook the eeriness it all.

"Frankie I miss you so much. I know it's been awhile. I guess I've just been wrapped up in my life here that I forgot. I won't let that happen again."

Bianca saw her moving swiftly through the graveyard. She tilted her head to the side wondering if she had imagined her. Her hand ceased all movement, plucking forgotten in that second. She stopped walking and glanced in Bianca's direction. Do I know you? There was something about the way she looked at Bianca; she still can't shake the feeling of it. Their eyes locked and like some dream everything around her faded. Other people in the cemetery were forgotten, the cold was gone. The trees even the birds that had been flying south just over Bianca's head moments before, all gone. Blue met gray and there, they were caught in a trance. She began to walk up the hill.

Panic took over at that point. Bianca tried not to stare, but she found she couldn't help myself. She moved with such grace. Her hips swayed just slightly. Her face was delicate, inspiring. Any poet would agree. In simple terms, she was beautiful. It was as if an angel from heaven had fallen from the sky. "Maria?"

Bianca suddenly became engrossed in her task of plucking the dead grass at her fingers tips. She stopped walking once she reached Bianca's side. Sitting down next to Bianca, they watched the people below in silence for a few moments before she spoke.

"Do you come here often?" Maria asked.

"Sometimes to think. You?" Bianca answered.

"I'm here visiting a friend. At least I think I am. I guess I'm looking for someone I lost," Maria said sadly.

"I'm sorry." Bianca knew Maria had no idea who she was.

"Don't be. I'm not. You can't regret life," Maria said softly.

"We all have regrets," Bianca said before she considered the words. She wished she could take them back. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean it like that I just-"

"I know what you meant. It's okay," she said smiling and looking back out over the hill.

"I know you," Bianca said softly.

"Perhaps."

"Perhaps? I knew you," Bianca corrected herself. "Your cross. Are you catholic?" she asked reaching over and touching the cross that hung from Maria's neck.

"No…no I'm not catholic. At least I don't think I am," Maria answered. Bianca was resisting the urge to reach out and touch her face. There was something about her. "It's just something I wear as a symbol of my faith."

"Faith. Your faith in who?" Bianca asked.

"My faith in mankind. My faith in God. The faith I carry inside myself."

"That's beautiful," Bianca said softly. She felt a tear escape.

"It's okay to cry," she said standing to go.

"I used to cry all the time. I've tried to stop. I never had a reason to stop…till she came into my life," Bianca said hanging her head.

"Someone you love?" Maria asked.

"Yes. But I haven't told her yet."

"Her? Oh…I see," Maria said looking out at the view.

"I'm sorry if that makes you uncomfortable."

"No it doesn't. Not at all," Maria smiled.

"I missed you," Bianca said. "Did you know you were…or are my step Aunt?"

Maria wasn't surprised really. She was beginning to think she was related to everyone and everything in Pine Valley.

"Why don't you tell her how you feel?" she asked.

"Because she'd never accept me."

"Does she know you're gay?"

"Yes. She's very accepting of that," Bianca smiled.

"You're afraid of scaring her off?" Maria stated answering her own question.

"Yes. I'm so afraid of it. I can't lose her Maria."

"Sometimes you've got to take chances. Life is about risks. If you don't risk you'll never know. Believe me, I'm learning as I go along. If I hadn't risked coming here to this town, I would never have found out I had a daughter, a son, and a husband who love me. It was scary for me, but I have their support. It sounds like you have your friends. You just might be surprised by her answer," Maria said. She started to walk away.

"Wait. You're not leaving so soon are you? You just got here." Bianca didn't want to be left alone at that moment.

"I'm sorry," she began to walk away, "I've got to go now. I'll be back again soon. Just call me when you need me." She touched the crucifix hanging round her neck. "I think you've got someone you need to go talk to now," Maria said walking away.

Bianca pulled out her cell. "Hello? Maggie. Can we meet? No- I'm all right. I just think…I think we need to talk. Great. Okay. Bye."
