Duke, Anna & Robert & Robin #51 November 9, 1990 - February 1, 1991: 12 hour original edit on three dvds
DVD #51A 11/9 Robin is seriously embarrassed by Anna when she comes to her school to bring her forgotten lunch. Robin sounds like she would much have preferred to have lunch in the cafeteria. Robin wants her to leave as soon as possible. Robin is upset as Anna won’t let her take the bus and complains she treats her like a child. Anna points out that if she started behaving like an adult that she would start treating her like one. Robin suggests that Anna go help Robert with the diamond case instead of tormenting her all the time.
Anna visits Felicia and Frisco. Felicia worries about the terrible twos. Anna advises that just wait until she is a teenager. Anna complains about what a bad mood Robin has been since she has been grounded. Felicia tells Anna that Robin is really upset with being grounded as it prevents her from auditioning for a Christmas dance show at school. Felicia informs her that the modern dance teacher at PCU is doing the choreography and it is a big deal. Anna says that Robin should have thought about this before she behaved like such a brat.
Frisco and Anna head to PCPD. While they are waiting there, Anna asks if Frisco thinks she is old fashioned? Frisco says that maybe she is just a little bit out of touch. She considers letting Robin audition and asks Frisco for his opinion? She answers her own question having decided to let Robin audition and she can be grounded next week.
Anna arrives to pick Robin up at school and she looks less than thrilled to see her mother. Anna tells her that Felicia told her about the audition and if Robin wants to do it, then she can. Anna tells her that she took dance classes when she was Robin’s age. Robin softens and declares maybe she was wrong, maybe Anna isn’t the meanest mother in the world.
Anna is very impressed with Robin’s dance moves at the audition (Kimberly does an amazing job). Anna jumps up and starts clapping she is so impressed, then quickly stops and sits down. While Robin is changing Anna makes herself home in the dance studio. She puts on some music and then gets into dancing in front of the mirror. Edge has come in and stands in the door watching her. She is mortified when she realizes she has an audience and immediately stops and rushes out.
11/12 Robert cajoles Katherine but she is not quite ready to move on and brings Cheryl up again. She thinks he is lost in the past, while he denies it. Robert suggests that they should get away together and go to New York. He then adds it is his police convention in Pooughkeepsie. She says she can’t leave as she has King to take care of and Mary is out of town. He offers that he can ask Anna.
Robin asks Anna questions about her past as a dancer. Robin wants to see her moves. Robin tries to stall as she is still grounded, and asks for a burger at Kelly’s. Anna catches on but does promise her when she is off being grounded she will take her there for the biggest cheeseburger with greasy fries.
Robert comes by Anna’s, and tells her that he has to go to the police convention and he has brought Katherine with him and wants her to go too. Katherine and Robin go off into the kitchen, while Anna suspiciously wants to know what the police convention has to do with her. He sweet talks about how she is always there to back him up. He asks her to take care of King for a week. She can’t believe he wants her to take on something else while he goes off to kick up his heels. She doesn’t want to be a referee between Robin and King as they can’t stand each other. She yells at him for taking her for granted. He annoys her further when he asks her to look into the diamond business. She reminds him that she has a business to run and a child to raise, and so does he. She points out that child is a nightmare right now and he is taking off for another week. She objects to him taking her for granted all the time. He asks where this is coming from? She is tired of doing everything for everyone else. She says she is looking for some change, some adventure, some romance, something for her.
Anna tells Olin she is brooding, feeling like her life lacks direction. She tells Olin about doing the dance steps earlier brought her back to how she felt when she was younger. Anna talks about past dreams, and Olin does as well. Anna just feels like she lacks enthusiam in her life. Olin says but that won’t happen if she sits around feeling sorry for herself.
Later, Robin asks Anna if she ever wanted to become a ballerina? Anna admits that yes she did. Anna knows sometimes she seems like the wicked witch, but she is always proud of her and loves her very much.
Anna takes a walk down to the dock to look for her lost scarf, and is lost in thought. She hears a noise and discovers Edge is videotaping her. She asks if this is what he does all the time, creep up on people. He calls her a dancer and she argues that she isn’t, but he said she is from her moves earlier. He introduces himself and she introduces herself as “just Anna”. She turns to go and he says he hopes he will see her again. He stops her and gives her back the scarf she had dropped. He tells her how good she looks, and how good she looked earlier and she seems mesmerised. Later, Edge watches the video he shot of Anna.
Cheryl steals a picture of Robert and Lucas from Bobbie’s photo album.Robert stops by the brownstone, he will keep checking on leads from Clayton’s file. Robert lets slip the name Perry and Bobbie realizes Tony has been holding out on her and she yells at him, as Robert hurries out the door. Esther is very upset to find an envelope of cash with Perry and demands to know where the money comes from. She thinks Clayton gave it to him. She pleads that she will never get over telling that poor woman, Cheryl Stansbury, that her baby had died.
Katherine tells him she is sorry she can’t go with him. He delays his trip so he can spend the night with Katherine and begins kissing her.
11/14 Robin is freaking out over her audition and doubting herself about whether she will get a call back. Anna challenges that maybe she is right as the other girls were really good and have probably been dancing for years. Robin gets defensive and starts insisting she has the moves down and offers to show Anna. Then she realizes her mom’s motivation and smiles thanking her. She says she needs a stage to practice.
They show up at Delafield’s and Robin goes to work. Robin leaves to go change and Edge shows up again pointing the video camera at Anna. Anna wants to know who he is? She demands that he stay away from her and her daughter. Angel comes in and tells her that Felicia would like to see her. Anna asks if he can drop Robin off for her so she can go over to the brownstone. After he walks away, Anna tells Edge that she isn’t joking, she really does want him to stay away from her with that camera and walks out.
Later, Robin is having a soda at the bar while waiting for Angel. He tells her that he saw her dance moves earlier and he encourages that she is really good. She tells him about the audition and he offers to drop some tapes of rock videos so she can study the moves.
Frisco and Anna sit down and he starts telling her how much he admires her, what a great parent she is, and he can learn a lot from her. Max’s christening is tomorrow he announces, and then babbles how they have given this a lot of thought and want Max to be around positive people, and role models. He shares that he and Felicia have given this a lot of thought, and they would be honoured if she would be the godmother. She looks at him very somberly like she would say no.
She declares she has to say yes or they will have to have the invitations reprinted. The realisation hits him that she knew. How could she let him go through all of that! Felicia comes down and is thrilled to learn Anna has agreed. She is also surprised that Anna already knew!
Angel gives Anna the tapes that Edge dropped off for Robin. She looks unsure about what to do with them but takes them.
11/15 The day of Maxie’s Christening, Bobbie visits Tiffany. Bobbie isn’t happy to learn that Tiffany invited Cheryl to Lucas’ Christening. Tiffany lets slip to Bobbie that Cheryl lost her baby right when she adopted Lucas. Bobbie questions how pregnant was Cheryl, and Tiffany shares she was almost full term. Bobbie starts questioning what happened but seems in shock at this news.
Anna and Sean are amused by how quickly Frisco has taken to being a father. Anna asks Sean if he knows a guy named Edge. Robin overhears and asks if he gave her the tapes he promised. Anna tries to escape the topic and goes over to greet Frisco and Felicia as they arrive.
The photographer arrives and Frisco puts him to work taking a shot of the godparents, Sean and Anna with Felicia and the baby, and all the various family and friend combination group shots. The christening is held in the hospital chapel. Tony greets Anna and asks how she is doing. She admits she is nervous. BJ has questions about the christening and Frisco explains it to her. She seems confused, but Frisco tells her they are welcoming Max into the world. As the reverend gets started, Anna holds her goddaughter.
A mysterious women shows up at the back of the chapel, turns out to be Frisco’s stepmother, Rita. She tries to offer her congratulations and a present. Frisco rejects her and the gift, wanting nothing to do with her. Frisco leaves suddenly taking Felicia with him. Their friends wonder if they should still go to the browstone for the party. Tony tells them all that Frisco and Felicia would be very disappointed if they didn’t go. Tiffany suggests to Sean that they stop by Kelly’s to give Frisco a chance to cool off. Sean agrees and offers to take Anna and Maria with them.
11/16 Cheryl has a fantasy of talking to baby Lucas about his father (Robert) in her mind. Party at the brownstone after the christening. Anna and Mariah talk to Felicia in kitchen. She fills them in a bit about his history with his stepmother and that he has left. Felicia is opening presents, with Robin’s help though she wishes that Frisco wouldn’t miss the entire party. Cheryl gets a weird look on her face when Robin announces the next gift is from her father.
11/19 Robin complains to Frisco that Edge sent her some videotapes but Anna won’t let her watch them. Anna declares they are loud and vulgar, but then admits she hasn’t seen them. Robin suggests that Frisco watch the tapes and then he can weigh in on whether they are appropriate for Robin.
Frisco checks out the tapes and tries to do the dance steps as Felicia laughs. He pulls her towards him and then dance together, as Robin and Anna come in laughing at their antics. Frisco pretends to be shocked, and Felicia declares outrage over the tapes. Robin realizes they are teasing her. Frisco declares there is nothing wrong with these tapes. Anna asks Frisco privately if he has met Edge. She comments on how he just showed up in town, and made a video of her. Frisco plays the tape again, and grabs Robin to swing her around and Felicia joins them and they dance together as Anna cracks up.
11/20 Anna is annoyed as Robin is watching and dancing to Edge’s tapes at top volumne. Katherine and King arrive. When Robin mentions it would have helped to watch Edge’s tapes a couple of days earlier. Kate asks what is an Edge? After the kids run off, Katherine tells Anna that Robert is coming home a day early and she asks if Anna and Lewis can arrange for him to have the night off so they could have some alone time. After everyone goes into the kitchen, Katherine calls Robert and tells him how glad she is he is coming home early. She wants to know exactly when he will be home, and seems very excited.
Robin and Anna are at her next audition. Anna is a bit miffed when Edge shows up and takes a seat near her. When Anna questions him, he says that he is there to see his protege in action. He asks if she likes his tapes. She insists that she hasn’t watched them. He is filming again and she is annoyed and questions if he takes that thing everywhere. He tells her she will be glad when he is taping prom night. She scoffs that he isn’t going to be around then.
He determines he has to see her at least one more time to give Robin the tape of her audition. Anna insists that she doesn’t want him seeing her daughter, and offers he can mail the tape to her. She accuses him of giving Robin the tapes, and coming to the audition in order to hit on her. He tells her she is right.
Robin gets a solo in the Christmas dance show. She runs excitedly to her mother to celebrate. She sees Edge and thanks him for his help as she couldn’t have done it without him. Anna continues to try to get rid of him. He warns her that he is only in town one more week and wants to get to know her. She puts him off again and walks away.
Back home, Robin raves how nice Edge is, doesn’t Anna think so? She changes the subject and Robin goes to the kitchen to make tea. Anna puts in one of the tapes to watch him and smiles in interest.
11/21 Katherine is planning a special Thanksgiving for Robert and making arrangements. Mary questions what Katherine is up to as this doesn’t seem to be a simple Thanksgiving. She reminds Mary that last year, her and Robert were estranged on the holiday. She plans on making up for it this year, but will not divulge her secret plans.
As Katherine plays the piano, Frisco stops by. Katherine asks how Max is doing? If she is keeping Frisco up at night? Since he reports everything is going great, she asks if he is available to return to singing at Delafield’s? He says this is a good idea. She asks him to prepare him to be ready to do solo sets as she might be busy with other endeavours. He is curious but she is vague about her plans, she just asks him if he can cover the restaurant as needed. She encourages him that his solo sets have been wonderful. He tells her how much he has enjoyed singing with her and they hug.
Bobbie puts all the pieces together via flashback about various moments with Tony, Cheryl & Lucas, and she pretends to be Cheryl and calls Dr. Perry’s office. The nurse tells her how sorry she is that what happened to her was so unfair, then Tiffany observing that Lucas is the same age that Cheryl’s child would have been.
11/22 Thanksgiving Day in PC. Katherine helps Ruby with cooking and serving at Kelly’s, joined by King. She tells him Thanksgiving is about being grateful for everything we have. He charmingly tells her that he is thankful for her every day, and she gets misty eyed.
Anna and Olin are busy with last minute holiday meal preparations. Anna tells Olin that Robin invited a friend. Olin hopes it isn’t Craig, she blames him for Robin getting into trouble. When the doorbell rings, Anna rushes to answer it declaring that they will be nice to whoever it is. She is shocked to open the door to find Edge. She questions what he is doing there? He reports that he has come for dinner, and is bearing a pink bakery box as she looks at him completely puzzled. Then he continues that Robin invited him, Anna looks stunned at this info.
Olin is happy to meet him as she recognises his name from his rad music videos, better than anything on MTV. Robin comes in and is happy to see Edge has arrived. He shares that he hasn’t celebrated Thanksgiving in awhile. Anna drags her daughter into the kitchen to question why didn’t she tell her she invited him, and WHY did she invite HIM?
Robin is puzzled and says she thought Anna liked him. Anna lectures her that she is old enough to arrange her own social calendar. Anna thinks Robin is matchmaking and calls her out on it. Robin starts cracking up at the idea of the two of them together. Robin observes that Edge is cool and hip and Anna is way too straight for him.
When Anna returns to the living room to open a bottle of wine, Olin is raving to Edge about a particular video that she enjoyed. When he offers to help Anna with the wine, she snaps that she has opened a bottle of wine before, and she is hip enough to know how to open a bottle of wine and then proceeds to struggle with it.
King and Katherine arrive to join them as Edge videos them arriving. King shows him his moves. Edge says he saw Kate perform in Copenhagen a couple of years ago and he shot some video of her. She had seen his recording and complimented him that it was very well done. As everyone dances, Anna pours herself a glass of wine and goes back into the kitchen. Kate asks her to tell her all about Edge, and asks what is going on between them based on the looks he is giving her. Kate observes that he is really into Anna, who argues that she hasn’t noticed. Kate says that isn’t true, and asks what Anna is going to do about it. Katherine is giddy with happiness about Robert returning home.
11/23 Thanksgiving Day continues. Bobbie tracks down Esther, Dr. Perry’s nurse. Esther threatens to call the police if Bobbie doesn’t leave, but Bobbie declares she isn’t going anywhere until Esther tells her the truth. Bobbie shares that she paid Dr. Perry $25k to adopt her son and she believes that baby is Cheryl Stanbury’s son. Esther continues to claim ignorance, but Bobbie warns her she needs answers as Cheryl is now living in her house! She comes clean with Bobbie and gives her Cheryl’s file. Esther says what happened to Cheryl shouldn’t happen to any woman. Bobbie realizes Lucas is Cheryl’s son and sits looking devastated, and begins sobbing in agony.
Everyone is dancing at the Scorpios, Edge, Olin, Robin, King, and Kate is trying to pick up dance steps. The music is cranking as Robert returns to town. Anna looks less than happy, even slightly embarrassed, definitely uncomfortable? She turns the music off and asks everyone to put the furniture back. Robin tries to introduce Robert to Edge, but of course Robert makes jokes. He acknowledges that Edge helped Robin get the show. Edge raves that he thinks Robin gets all of her talent from her mother.
Edge paces as he waits for Anna to return from the kitchen. He puts on a video and when she comes in, he asks if it is too loud? If it will bother the neighbours (her earlier complaints). He complains that she always says no to him. He asks her to dance but she says there has been enough dancing. He gets the hint and starts to leave. Robin comes in raving about a big rock star, Janna Jerome. Anna stiffens when she hears that name. Anna asks can’t she like someone with a different name. Robin tells her she isn’t related to those Jeromes. Edge encourages Robin to be herself and not try to imitate someone else.
Katherine stops Robert from having a drink and tells him no they have plans. First she says that Tony called and he needs to see Robert and it is urgent. After Robert leaves and Edge and Anna are alone, he asks her about her being unnerved once Robert came in. She denies it and makes excuses and walks into the kitchen.
Katherine goes home to prepare, and Robert stops by Kelly’s. Tony apologizes for pulling him away from Katherine. Robert asks what is up and Tony fills him in about Bobbie leaving town over Thanksgiving and going to find Perry. Robert declares he doesn’t like the sound of that. Tony worries if Bobbie is any danger. He wants the address so he can go after her.
Robert doesn’t think she is in any danger. He doesn’t think she will get anything out of him, Robert tried with $50k and he didn’t get anywhere. Tony advises that Robert should never underestimate his wife. Before Robert leaves, he asks Tony to call him the minute Bobbie returns home. Cheryl walks in and asks Robert if she can fix him a plate. She tries to make conversation over a wishbone. He excuses himself and leaves.
Meanwhile, Katherine is busy arranging a romantic candlelit dinner. Mary is very excited about Katherine’s big plans and is very positive about the outcome. Katherine is very nervous. Mary reassures her that she is beautiful.
Robert comes in and takes Katherine into his arms and kisses her. He notices the flower arrangement is the knight’s helmet filled with flowers. He gets the symbolism that she is given up her armour and surrendering to the night, thinking that is the surprise. She assures him it is not. They sit down for a romantic candlelit dinner as she serves him a vegetable course that he compliments is delicious. She comments that the video director really seems to like Anna. Robert distractedly says he didn’t notice. Kate continues that who knows maybe they will have a future together. Robert asks if she is trying to push them down the aisle, and this is a sour spot for her. He says that look at them, why ruin a good thing as she looks hurt.
She responds in agreement, “Why ruin a good thing”, hurt that it thinks marriage to her would ruin their relationship. He thinks he has had his dinner and asks what is for desert. She gets up to clear their plates and he stands up and holds her in his arms. Robert sees the large covered platter and thinks it is desert. After his comments, she has changed her mind about proposing. He whips off the cover and the cakes is in the shape of a turkey with, “Will you marry me?”
11/26 He is speechless and the says he has ruined her surprise, and he doesn’t know what to say. Kate points out that he has already said it, why ruin a good thing? He had no idea she would do anything like this.
She tells him not to worry about it, that they will just forget that this ever happened. He tells her that he does love her, as much as he has ever loved anyone. He has meant everything he has ever said to her, and he fully intended for them to get married. It would have happened except for that Jerome business. She knows Anna needed him. He defends that Anna’s husband had died, but what about the next time? He surmised Faison? She asks what is it this time? She asks if it is the diamond? Bobbie being gone? Cheryl being back in town? He insists that he doesn’t care about any of that. She demands to know then what is it?
She guesses he can’t make the commitment. She says it has been a good thing and she doesn’t want to ruin it either, but she can’t wait around waiting for it to get better. She doesn’t want to wait around for him to make up her mind, as she will be old and gray. Annoyed he declares that this was a set up with a question that she knew he couldn’t answer. She replies no not the way she wanted him to, but maybe she wanted to make it a little bit easier for both of them. She knew the answer wasn’t going to change no matter how she asked the question. The question needed to be asked so they could both accept it. She does accept this.
She says, “And you?”
He breaks her heart when he says he accepts it to. She tells him she isn’t sorry for any of it, but he is sorry for unintentionally hurting her. She reminds him that he wasn’t being honest not with himself nor with her. She knows he never lied to her, and she loves him the way he is. She says the question should have been, “Will you keep loving me? And not hate her for ruining a good thing?” She calls him her friend, which surprises him.
She declares emphatically, “Always!”
She shows him her world tour concert plan. He asks if she would have cancelled if he had said yes? She says no, so this is just the way it should be. He realizes this means she is leaving and asks when? She tells him tomorrow. He is disappointed it is so soon, and he will miss her. She tells him Angel and Mary will run the club, and Frisco will go solo. She tells him he can continue to rent the cottage once it is renovated. They get emotional remembering when they first met there. He realizes he is losing her, and tells her the cottage will never be the same without her. She tells him how romantic the night was in NY when he rented out the little Italian restaurant for just the two of them. For him, it was the song she wrote.
She smiles that now he can change of all his radio stations from classical back to jazz. He admits maybe not, he has gained an appreciation for classical things. He warns her he won’t be able to fix her tickets in Europe. She tells him she doesn’t need him as there is no speed limit on the Autobahn. He realizes she really doesn’t need him. She agrees, but gets choked up about wanting him.
She doesn’t want things to get mushy as it will make her cry, and then he will comfort her, and then it will make her feel worse. She asks him to leave before all of that starts to happen. As he stumbles around not knowing what to say, she says don’t say anything just go. She stops him to give him back his ring. She doesn’t need the ring to remind him of her. He tells her she is one hell of a woman. She retorts that he is one impossible man. He asks then why did she fall in love with him? Damned if she knows. They hug one last time as her eyes feel with tears. She starts to cry after he leaves.
Mary is stunned as she didn’t expect this kinda of news. She knows Kate’s heart must be broken. She declares the man must be crazy to turn down such a beautiful girl. Kate defends that a man can’t give what he doesn’t have to give. She knows he loves her but he just can’t make a commitment. Mary starts to cry and asks what can she do. Katherine asks her to stop crying as she doesn’t need that right now. Katherine asks Mary to stay in PC to help run Delafield's with Angel. Mary wants to go with her, but Kate wants her to stay in PC and run the club that she has put so much into and there is no one else she will trust to run it.
A sad Robert enters Kelly’s and joins Sean and Tiffany. They are surprised to see him as he had plans with Kate? He tells them they came to an understanding tonight. Tiffany realizes this means they still haven’t set a wedding date and he agrees that is true.
Privately, Sean asks Robert what is going on? He knows something is wrong. Robert admits they ended things tonight. Sean questions why as he knows Robert loves her, and she loves him. He realizes Robert just can’t commit to marriage. Robert states that Sean has all the answers, and turns and walks out as Sean follows him out. Sean reminds him she is one of the best things that every happened to him, and Robert agrees. Sean continues how she put up with Robert’s stupid job, his crazy moods, even his lousy sense of humour. Robert doesn’t want to be lectured. Sean wants him to go back to her.
Robert yells that he can not, he just can’t. He thought he would spend the rest of his life with this person, but every time he gets close to it, the important part, it scares the hell out of him. Sean encourages him that he can do it, Sean did it with Tiffany. All Robert has to do is take that last step. Robert says no, its over. Robert is worried about her and tells Sean that she is leaving town. Sean is sure she will be okay. Sean says he is worried about Robert as he is going to wind up old, and alone. Sean invites him over for a brandy but Robert turns him down.
