Jonathan Returns #7 August 22 - December 23, 2011, & July 2015 Return: 12 hour original edit
DVD #7A 8/22 Maxie said that it was obvious that Spinelli was not himself. Lucky was not convinced and said that he had real business to attend to. After he walked away, Lucky took out the bottle of pills that Elizabeth had given him earlier. He was looking at the bottle when Elizabeth called to say that Siobhan was awake and wanted to see him. Lucky was still holding the bottle when he headed for General Hospital.
As Anthony put on gloves and pulled out a drug vial, he talked about orchids, their fragile beauty, and their will to survive. He asked Siobhan if she had the will to survive. Anthony told Siobhan that using the bakery for a simple turnaround had been prompted by Spinelli's laughable behavior. He said that he got the good drugs from a doctor who Anthony could call at any time for anything he wanted with no questions asked.
When Anthony asked if Siobhan had told anyone else what she had overheard, Siobhan answered truthfully and said that she had not. Anthony was cordial when he told Siobhan that telling the truth might have saved her life at another time, but not this time because she had big nosy ears and was an impediment on the path to true love.
As Anthony held a cloth soaked in the drug over Siobhan's nose and mouth, he told her that she was in the way of Lucky and Elizabeth. Anthony told Siobhan to let go and be at peace. Anthony said that Siobhan had caught him on a good day because he did not intend to be so nice to Lucky. Anthony said that Lucky would die slowly, one pill at a time. Elizabeth knocked on the door.
Anthony hid as Elizabeth peeked in. Elizabeth thought that Siobhan was sleeping and left. Anthony thought Siobhan was dead. He took the vial and left. He threw his plastic gloves and the vial in the biohazard trash as he left. Inside, Siobhan struggled to use a marker pen to leave a message on a pillow for Lucky.
Lucky met Elizabeth in the hospital. He asked about Siobhan, and Elizabeth said that Siobhan was recovering. She noticed that Lucky was on edge, but he did not admit that anything was wrong. When Lucky got to Siobhan's room, he thought she was sleeping. Lucky apologized for not being there when she woke up. Lucky said that Siobhan should not be hooked up to machines.
When Lucky laid his hand on Siobhan's forehead and told her that he needed her to wake up because he was not doing so well, Lucky realized something was wrong. Elizabeth was just outside the door when Lucky started calling for a doctor. The pillow that Siobhan had been writing on lay facedown on the floor beside her bed.
8/23 Elizabeth stood in the doorway as Lucky screamed for a doctor to examine Siobhan, who was not breathing. Steve responded immediately and sent Lucky out of the room. He told Elizabeth to call for a crash cart as he gave CPR, but she just stood in the doorway with a stunned look on her face. Steve interrupted his efforts and called for the cart.
Instead of helping Steve, Elizabeth walked woodenly into the hall. Lucky wanted to know what had happened. Elizabeth did not know. Lucky said it was all his fault, but Elizabeth said it was hers. Lucky replied that he was the one who had set all the events in motion.
Lucky walked back into Siobhan's room just in time to see her flatline. Steve ushered Elizabeth into the hall and questioned her about what had happened. He insinuated that Elizabeth was responsible for Siobhan's death. Elizabeth was insulted and walked away. Steve caught up to her and apologized for instantly accusing her.
Elizabeth worried that other staffers would feel the same way. Steve said that his concern was that the hospital had lost a patient that it should not have lost. Steve said that he was ordering an autopsy and once the results were in, Elizabeth would not owe an explanation to anyone.
Lucky stayed by Siobhan's side. He told her he was sorry. He apologized for not letting her go when she asked him to because he had been too selfish. Lucky commented that he wanted to see what they could have had together. Lucky said that he knew that Siobhan was special when they first met; she was different and had a fire in her soul. Lucky told Siobhan that he truly believed that he had been protecting her from harm and had not realized that he was the danger.
Lucky said that all he could offer to Siobhan was a hollow apology. Lucky recited a traditional Irish farewell to Siobhan and kissed her hand. He took out the bottle of pills that Elizabeth had given him and downed one. Lucky asked Siobhan not to hate him any more than she already did. He held her hand and cried.
Later Lucky listened to Siobhan's last phone message, which said that she believed in him, admired him, and wanted him to be safe. Lucky cried that those should not have been Siobhan's last words. Lucky did not notice the pillow beside the bed with Siobhan's last message written on it.
8/25 At the nurses' station, Matt bragged that he'd just completed another successful operation. Epiphany was disgusted that Matt and Patrick appeared to have some kind of competition going on over who was the better surgeon. Matt refused to let Epiphany rain on his parade because he was proud that he saved patients, sometimes even twice. Matt suggested that Epiphany ask Siobhan if she didn't believe him.
Elizabeth finally spoke up to gently explain that they had tried to page Matt, but he had already entered the operating room. Matt immediately sensed that something was wrong, so Elizabeth revealed that Siobhan had passed away. Matt was shocked because Siobhan had been on the road to recovery the last time that he had seen her. He recalled that she had been well enough to ask for Elizabeth, so he couldn't understand what had gone wrong.
Elizabeth explained that she had talked to Siobhan, and then she had fetched Lucky per Siobhan's request. Elizabeth revealed that they had returned and discovered that Siobhan had died. Elizabeth assured Matt that Steve had worked hard to resuscitate Siobhan, but it had been too late. Matt was relieved when he learned that Steve had ordered an autopsy because Matt wanted his name cleared of any wrongdoing.
Epiphany resented Matt's implication that Siobhan might have died because someone on the nursing staff had done something wrong. Matt assured Epiphany that he hadn't meant that, but Epiphany argued that blame had a habit of rolling downhill, and into the nurses' laps.
Moments later, Steve walked up to reveal that he needed all of the nursing logs for the last few weeks because some drugs had disappeared. Steve wanted to know who had access to the medications. Matt and Elizabeth exchanged a look of concern, but didn't say anything. Steve assured Epiphany and Elizabeth that he wasn't accusing anyone of anything, but Robin had asked him to help out while she focused on diagnosing Jason's seizures.
Steve explained that he had talked to Epiphany and Elizabeth about it because Epiphany was the head of the nursing staff, and Elizabeth had the most access to the medicines, so he had hoped that they might have some insight into the missing drugs.
According Steve, the medications that were missing were: hydrocodone, naloxone, ipecac, and atropine.
Matt suggested that perhaps the missing medications were part of the confusion created by Robin's new system, but Epiphany insisted that her nurses had been able to adapt to the changes without any problems. Steve was confident that they would clear things up by cross-referencing the logs with the patients' charts, so Epiphany decided to get started.
After Epiphany left, Matt and Elizabeth discussed the bottle of pills that Elizabeth had asked him to test, which explained the missing hydrocodone. However, Matt knew that the other drugs were used to treat an overdose, so he demanded to know who had been "doping." Elizabeth was evasive, so Matt admitted that he had helped Lucky out on the docks recently. Elizabeth relaxed, so she told Matt about Lucky being injected with narcotics. Matt admitted that he was concerned about Lucky being around drugs, but he promised to keep quiet unless he sensed that Lucky was in trouble.
Later, Epiphany returned to the nurses' station. Epiphany revealed that "the funny business" had started three days earlier when three nurses, including Elizabeth, had been on duty. Epiphany assured Elizabeth that she wasn't pointing fingers, but she thought that Elizabeth should know. After Epiphany walked away, Elizabeth turned to Matt for help. She reminded him that she couldn't afford to have another incident on her record. Matt promised Elizabeth that it wouldn't get that far.
At the apartment, Lucky listened to the message that he had left for Siobhan just before J.T. had injected Lucky full of drugs. Lucky's eyes filled with tears as he heard himself promise to spend time with Siobhan. Lucky threw the answering machine across the room. During the angry outburst, the bottle of hydrocodone fell out of Lucky's pocket. He bent down to pick up the bottle, and gathered the scattered pills just as Ethan knocked on the door. Lucky was unaware that a few pills remained on the floor.
Lucky tried to send Ethan away, but Ethan didn't think that it was a good idea for Lucky to be left alone. Ethan started to pick up the mess that Lucky had made, but Lucky stopped his brother by ordering Ethan to leave things alone. Ethan was determined to help his brother, so he offered to make funeral arrangements, and notify Siobhan's family. Lucky confided that Siobhan's sister had despised Lucky, so she had warned Siobhan to stay away from Lucky. Lucky admitted that he wished that Siobhan had heeded her sister's advice because he felt responsible for what had happened to Siobhan.
Ethan insisted that he wasn't to blame, but Lucky argued that Siobhan would have been alive if she had returned to Ireland. Lucky confessed that he hadn't been able to give Siobhan what she had wanted or deserved. Ethan believed that Lucky had good intentions when he had asked Siobhan to stay, but Ethan insisted that Siobhan had not been the type of person to do something that she hadn't wanted to do. Ethan believed that Lucky shouldn't feel guilty for wanting to take his life in a new direction with Siobhan, but Lucky disagreed.
The conversation then turned to Lucky's investigation. Ethan confessed that he was concerned that Lucky would get himself into trouble, but Lucky claimed that he was determined to make the streets safe for his children. Moments later, Matt called.
A short time later, Lucky and Ethan met Matt in Siobhan's hospital room. Matt explained that the cleaning crew had found a message to Lucky from Siobhan. Matt handed Lucky a pillow with, "LU" written on it. Lucky, Ethan, and Matt tried to figure out what it meant, to no avail. However, Lucky felt that he owed it to Siobhan to find out.
Later, Steve entered Siobhan's hospital room to check on Lucky, and to request that Lucky authorize an autopsy to determine the cause of Siobhan's death. Elizabeth passed the room just as Lucky explained that Siobhan had been his wife, so no one wanted answers more than Lucky did.
8/26 Matt and Elizabeth chatted in the hallway. Matt was glad that an autopsy was being performed on Siobhan to determine cause of death. Elizabeth insisted it was her fault and that Lucky would blame her. Matt told Elizabeth to stop blaming herself and forgive herself instead.
As Jason was taken into surgery, Elizabeth fantasized about Jason in her art studio. In her dreams, she and Jason shared a cozy art studio. Elizabeth was a world-renowned artist, and Jason was an architect. They were childless and free to travel. Elizabeth had just returned from a show in Germany, and Jason was on his way to Tokyo for a job. They were childless by choice. Jason said that he was glad that they had so much freedom; that their lives permitted them to drop everything and go anywhere in the world at a moment's notice.
In Elizabeth's fantasy, Jason told Elizabeth that he wanted to be her muse. Jason confided that he was glad that they had not become a clichéd couple. Jason opened a drawer and found an unused pack of birth control. Elizabeth looked uncomfortable when Jason asked if she was trying to get pregnant. In the operating room, Patrick found a bleeder.
8/29 In Elizabeth's fantasy, Jason questioned how long she had been off the pill. Elizabeth said that it had not been deliberate, that she had just lost track. Jason said that he wanted a free and easy relationship, and that did not include being a father. Jason took Elizabeth to a building that he was rehabbing. Jason said that the building and idea for affordable housing was his baby, and he like the freedom of devoting all his spare time to it. Elizabeth said he could be a father and still devote himself to his cause. Jason said no, that it would not be fair to a child.
Jason told Elizabeth that he did not want her to give up anything to be with him. Elizabeth responded that instead, she would have to give up Jason. Jason reminded her that he was still there. Elizabeth said that she saw a rooftop in Florence where a man played a sad song on a violin. Elizabeth said that she wanted to dance on a rooftop with Jason. Jason started up a flight of stairs but fell through a railing and crashed unconscious to the floor below.
Jason returned to their apartment in a wheelchair. Elizabeth tried to take care of him, but Jason told her she was stuck, just like he was stuck in the chair. When Elizabeth tried to comfort him, Jason said that all he wanted to do was to be free, and Elizabeth had wanted them tied together and they were. Elizabeth said she was trying to be supportive.
Jason said that Elizabeth did not get it. Jason yelled that he would rather put a bullet in his head than live like he was living. Jeans-clad Jason walked up to the watching Elizabeth and told her that everything that had happened was his fault. Elizabeth said that she had never known Jason. Jason told her that he was not the man she needed.
In the OR, Patrick located the object in Jason's brain, removed it, and called for a clamp. Matt called Elizabeth and asked her to meet him at GH. Matt told Elizabeth that he had fixed the problem with the missing drugs by making it look like a clerical error. Matt said that Elizabeth had been right about keeping him out of Jason's surgery because he had been wrong to turn it into a competition with Patrick. Elizabeth was grateful to Matt for getting her off the hook about the drugs, but wanted to know why he had taken the risk.
Sam, Carly, Monica, Edward, and Robin all approach the nurse’s station.
8/30 At Elizabeth's house, Lucky sat on the sofa, with Aiden in his lap, as he read his son a story. Lucky scoffed at the happily-ever-after ending of the story, and then apologized to Aiden for not giving him parents who lived together under the same roof. Lucky confessed that he had hoped to give Aiden a semblance of that kind of life with Siobhan, but she was gone.
Lucky regretted that Siobhan wouldn't be able to teach Aiden her Irish stories, and sayings. Lucky pulled the bottle of hydrocodone pills out of his pocket as he wondered what he was going to pass down to Aiden that he hadn't already.
Lucky vowed that he would find a way to watch over his son because Lucky couldn't risk losing anyone else, especially Aiden. Lucky wanted Aiden to turn out to be a better person than Lucky was, and to learn from Lucky's mistakes. Lucky glanced at the bottle of pills as he promised his son that he would do everything possible to keep pills like hydrocodone from ending up in the hands of children.
A short time later, Dante stopped by the house to check on Lucky after learning that Lucky had taken a few personal days off from work. Lucky explained that Cam was at day camp, and that Elizabeth was at work, so Lucky had decided to spend the day with Aiden.
Dante was curious how Lucky was holding up, so Lucky confessed that it had helped being with Aiden. Dante clarified that he was more concerned about Lucky's addiction, since Lucky had been shot up full of some "crazy stuff." Lucky tried to change the subject, but Dante refused to drop the matter. Dante explained that they needed to discuss it because Dante had to tell Lulu about it. "No, you don't," Lucky argued.
Lucky insisted that Lulu was always looking for a cause, so Lucky didn't want Lulu becoming obsessed with him. Dante refused to start the next chapter of his life with Lulu with a lie of omission. Lucky had no idea what Dante was talking about, so Dante explained that he had asked Lulu to move in. Dante assured Lucky that Lucky hadn't done anything wrong because Lucky had been a victim. Dante reminded Lucky that Lucky had nothing to hide. "Or do you?" Dante wondered as he noticed Lucky's expression discomfort.
Lucky refused to ruin his day with Aiden by continuing the discussion. Dante insisted that they needed to figure things out because Lucky had been pumped full of drugs, which might have compromised Lucky's sobriety. Lucky was curious why Dante cared, but before Dante could respond, Lulu walked in. "Lucky, is it true?" she asked.
8/31 At Elizabeth's house, Lulu was stunned when she overheard Lucky and Dante arguing about Lucky's recent trouble with drugs. She entered the house, demanding to know if it were true. Lucky and Dante's guilty silence made her realize that Lucky had been using drugs, and that that Dante had known about it. Dante explained that he had urged Lucky to tell Lulu. Lulu was furious that Dante had given Lucky the choice, but Lucky insisted that Dante had been respecting Lucky's privacy.
Lulu's temper flared because she realized that Lucky had lied to her when she had confronted Lucky about being high following Siobhan's car accident. Dante tried to explain that it hadn't been Lucky's fault, so Lulu sarcastically wondered if someone had held Lucky down, and then had forced the drugs into Lucky. She was shocked when Dante and Lucky admitted that it had happened exactly like that.
Lulu refused to believe them; she insisted that drug addicts were accomplished liars, so she demanded proof of Lucky and Dante's claims. Dante explained that Elizabeth had found Lucky shortly after drugs had been forced into Lucky's system. Lulu was livid because she felt betrayed that Elizabeth hadn't told her. Lulu made it clear that she didn't believe Lucky's story about being injected with drugs against his will, she had been down a similar road with Lucky when he had first battled addiction.
Lucky was curious why Lulu had no problem giving Luke the benefit of the doubt, even though Luke had killed Jake while driving drunk, but she refused to do the same for Lucky. Lucky admitted that he felt insulted, but he decided to tell Lulu exactly what had happened on the waterfront. Dante backed up Lucky's story, but Lulu ranted about addicts always making excuses. Lucky accused Lulu of not knowing what she was talking about.
Lulu suggested that Lucky was deflecting, so Lucky reminded his sister that he had fought hard to be sober, and that he hadn't given in to temptation after Jake had died, so he could use Lulu's support, while he dealt with Siobhan's death. Lulu offered Lucky her condolences, so Lucky continued his story about the night that he'd been pumped full of drugs. Lucky explained that he had stumbled to a church, where Elizabeth had found him.
Lucky credited Elizabeth with countering the effects of the drugs, and then taking him to the hospital to see Siobhan. Lulu insisted that Lucky owed it to Siobhan to resign from the case, so she turned to Dante to ask Dante to pull some strings. Dante explained that he couldn't do that, which enraged Lulu. Lulu accused Dante of having changed. According to Lulu, Dante had started to compromise his principals ever since Dante had learned that Sonny was his father. Lulu suggested that it had nearly killed her brother.
"Just like it's killing what's between us," Lulu added. Dante was stunned. "So that's what you really think of me?" Dante wondered. Lulu tried to explain herself, but Lucky advised his sister to stop before she said something that she might regret. Dante warned Lucky that that ship had already sailed. Lulu was unapologetic as she claimed that the lines had become blurred for Dante because of Sonny's influence, which had led Dante to keep the truth about Lucky's relapse from her.
Dante insisted that he had just been trying to protect Lucky, but Lucky advised Dante that it was pointless to continue to argue with Lulu because she refused to understand. Lucky decided to leave, which prompted Lulu to wonder if Lucky intended to score some more pills. She reminded Lucky that he would be walking out on his son, so Lucky suggested that Aiden might be better off with her, rather than a "druggie" like him. Outside, Lucky pulled the bottle of pills from his pocket, took one, and then walked away.
At the nurses' station, Elizabeth was frazzled as she dropped a batch of files. Matt arrived in time to help her pick everything up, so he took the opportunity to quietly assure her that she had nothing to worry about because he had replaced all of the missing medications. Elizabeth was curious why Matt had helped her, so Matt explained that he had lost a patient once when someone had put bad medications into the system.
Elizabeth admitted that it sounded like a fascinating story, so Matt offered to tell her all about one day.
Moments later, Matt received a text message notifying him that Siobhan's autopsy had been completed. Elizabeth revealed that there had been a snag with the replacement of the missing hydrocodone. She explained that she had taken only one bottle, which she had given to Matt to test.
Matt assured her that he had counted, so he knew that there had actually been two missing bottles, which he had replaced. Matt and Elizabeth realized that someone had stolen the second bottle, so Matt suggested that it might have been Lucky. Elizabeth insisted that it wasn't possible. Matt admired Elizabeth's loyalty to Lucky; he thought that it was a shame that Elizabeth and Lucky's relationship hadn't worked out.
Matt suggested that Elizabeth and Lucky might be able to rekindle things, but Elizabeth reminded Matt that Lucky was grieving for Siobhan. Matt pointed out that Lucky had also lost a child recently, so Lucky might be inclined to cling tightly to someone close to him. Elizabeth explained that it couldn't be her. "Not now," she added. "Nor should it ever be," Matt admitted. He immediately apologized because he realized that he had been out of line.
Elizabeth promised Matt that she hadn't taken offense because she realized that she and Lucky were the poster couple for unhealthy codependent relationships. Matt was impressed with Elizabeth's brutal honesty. Elizabeth admitted that it was hard to deny it after everything that she and Lucky had been through. Elizabeth then changed the subject by thanking Matt for helping her and Lucky. Matt confessed that he tended to have a soft spot for underdogs.
Moments later, Patrick approached the nurses' station to blast Matt for acting childish in regards to Jason's case. Patrick blamed Matt for Robin's "shifty behavior." Matt had no idea what Patrick was talking about. The argument was cut short when Patrick received a page to check on a patient. Patrick spitefully advised Matt to check Siobhan's autopsy report to see why she had died, and then left.
Elizabeth assured Matt that she knew what Matt felt like because she had grown up in the shadow of her "perfect" sister, Sarah. Matt admitted that he was certain that things would change soon, but before he could elaborate, Maxie walked up. Maxie was in a snit because Robin had refused to let Maxie give Sam the engagement ring that Jason had bought for Sam.
Moments later, Robin arrived at the nurses' station looking for Patrick. Matt confessed that he was curious what was going on because Patrick had blamed him for Robin's decision to bar Patrick from Jason's room. Robin assured Matt that Patrick had overreacted to the situation, but Maxie disagreed. Robin resented Maxie attitude, so Robin lectured Maxie about not respecting Robin's new position.
A few minutes later, Lucky arrived to find out if the results of Siobhan's autopsy were in. Elizabeth wondered how Lucky was holding up, so he told her about his ugly confrontation with Lulu at the house. Lucky admitted that he thought that Matt suspected Lucky of relapsing too, but Elizabeth assured Lucky that Matt had taken steps to replace the missing bottle of hydrocodone. Elizabeth then revealed that a second bottle of the addictive narcotic had gone missing.
Lucky immediately went on the defensive by accusing Elizabeth of fearing that Lucky had taken it. Elizabeth quickly assured Lucky that he was wrong; she insisted that she didn't believe that he had relapsed, and that she had told Matt so. Elizabeth conceded that she hadn't handled his addiction well, when Lucky had first struggled with his dependency on hydrocodone, but Jason's surgery had made her see things in a different light. She had wondered what things would have been like if they had done things differently.
Elizabeth had realized that they would have simply made different mistakes because they couldn't escape who they were, or what had been meant for them. Lucky was curious if Elizabeth believed that they were meant to suffer the pain and tragedy that they had. Elizabeth clarified that it was easy to find those things, but happiness took work.
Lucky thought about it for a moment, and then confided that it hadn't taken any effort to be happy when he had spent time with Aiden. Elizabeth smiled, and then turned to answer the phone. Her smile disappeared when the caller informed her that Siobhan had not died of natural causes.
9/6 Lucky approached the nurses' station to ask Matt where to claim Siobhan's body. Matt revealed that Lucky couldn't do that, so Lucky reminded Matt that Siobhan had been Lucky's wife. Matt explained that Lucky's marital status wasn't the problem, which prompted Lucky to wonder if there had been something in the autopsy report that Lucky should be aware of.
Matt admitted that he wished that he could say yes, but there hadn't been any signs of physical violence, or traces of a known lethal substance to explain Siobhan's untimely death. According to Matt, it was as if Siobhan had simply stopped breathing. Matt explained that the cause of death had not been from natural causes, so Lucky pointed out that it made it a police matter, which meant that Lucky was within his rights to take Siobhan's body.
Matt revealed that Siobhan had apparently not gotten around to changing her will after she had married Lucky, so Siobhan's sister, Megan McKenna, had legal rights to her sister's body. Matt added that Megan had arrived to claim Siobhan's body.
Lucky decided to talk to Megan when Matt pointed him to the conference room where she was waiting. Megan glared at Lucky with open hostility when he entered the room. Lucky started to apologize to Megan, but stopped when she threw a cup of water in his face, and then angrily blamed him for her sister's tragic death. Lucky realized that it was pointless to defend himself, so he suggested that they find a way to work together as Siobhan's family. Megan made it clear that Siobhan's family was in Ireland, not in Port Charles.
Lucky reminded Megan that Siobhan was his wife, but Megan accused Lucky of using Siobhan as a pawn. Megan informed Lucky that Siobhan had confided to her, so she knew about Siobhan and Lucky's troubles. Megan tearfully demanded to know how her sister had died, but Lucky admitted that he didn't know. Megan suspected that Lucky didn't care. Lucky disagreed, and then vowed to find out what had happened to his wife, but Megan wasn't impressed.
She revealed that she had warned Siobhan that Lucky was trouble, and that she had advised her sister to get away from him. Lucky argued that he hadn't forced Siobhan to marry him, so Siobhan had been free to leave if she had wanted to go. Megan conceded that Lucky might not have killed Siobhan with his own hands, but she blamed him for allowing whatever "force of evil" had killed Siobhan into Siobhan's life.
"You might as well have murdered Siobhan yourself," Megan snarled at him, and then stormed out. Lucky was shaken by the encounter, so he reached into his pocket to pull out a bottle of hydrocodone.
At the Webber house, Elizabeth invited Cameron to the dinning room table to celebrate his first day of school with his favorite treat of chocolate milk and cookies. Cam looked glum as Elizabeth poured chocolate syrup into two glasses of chilled milk, and then started to stir. She was curious why Cam seemed so down, so Cam explained that he recalled making chocolate milk for his brother, Jake.
Elizabeth's smile disappeared as she admitted that she missed Jake, too, so she suggested that they make a toast to Jake. Cam cheered up as he and Elizabeth clinked their glasses together, and then said in unison, "To Jake." After taking a sip of their drinks, Elizabeth kissed the top of her son's head.
Later, Elizabeth sent Cam to the bathroom to brush his teeth before bed. Elizabeth eyes filled with sadness as she remembered the sounds of Jake's laughter. She snapped back to the present when someone knocked on the front door. Elizabeth assumed that it was the sitter, Andrea, so she was surprised to see Dante standing on her doorstep instead. Elizabeth explained that she had to go to work soon, so Dante revealed that he was there on police business.
Elizabeth was startled when Dante suggested that she had been the last person to see Siobhan alive. Elizabeth argued that the killer had been the last person to see Siobhan alive, but she realized that she was a suspect because of Siobhan's accusations during the weeks leading up to Siobhan's death. Dante assured Elizabeth that he just wanted to get to the bottom of things, so he asked Elizabeth why Siobhan had asked to see her.
Elizabeth insisted that she and Siobhan had had a civil conversation about Lucky, and that Siobhan had cleared Elizabeth of pushing Siobhan down the stairs. Elizabeth became nervous when Dante pointed out that Siobhan wasn't around to corroborate Elizabeth's version of events. Dante asked Elizabeth to give him a call if she recalled anything else of importance, and then started to leave, but Elizabeth called out to him before he reached the door.
Elizabeth revealed that Siobhan had claimed to know something about the people who "had done what they did to Lucky.” Dante was surprised that Siobhan had known something about the drug ring. Elizabeth added that Siobhan had wanted to discuss something important with Lucky, but had refused to confide the details to Elizabeth. Dante thanked Elizabeth, and then opened the door just as Matt was about to knock. Matt wondered if everything were okay, so Elizabeth assured Matt that she was fine.
After Dante left, Matt questioned Elizabeth about Dante's visit. Elizabeth revealed that Siobhan's death had officially been ruled a homicide, and that she was a suspect. "That's absurd," Matt insisted. "Maybe not," Elizabeth replied. Matt thought that her comment sounded cryptic, so he asked her to explain herself. Elizabeth confided that she had wanted Siobhan to go away ever since she had met Siobhan because Elizabeth believed that Siobhan wasn't good for Lucky.
Matt pointed out that it didn't equate to murder, but Elizabeth argued that she might have subconsciously switched the medications during the operation because of her feelings for Siobhan. Matt fired several questions at Elizabeth, which quickly confirmed to him that she hadn't intentionally harmed Siobhan, so he asked Elizabeth to promise to stop talking as if she had.
Matt confessed that he carried his own guilt about Siobhan's death because Siobhan had been his patient. Elizabeth quickly defended Matt by insisting that he was too hard on himself, but Matt was determined to focus on Elizabeth. Matt urged Elizabeth to stop making people think that she had murdered Siobhan, or she might end up in jail. Elizabeth admitted that she had spent so much time wishing that Siobhan would go away, yet in the end "she was going to leave Lucky anyway."
At the hospital, Dante entered the conference room to talk to Lucky. Lucky managed to shove the bottle of hydrocodone back into his jacket pocket before Dante spotted the pills. Dante wondered if Lucky were okay, so Lucky revealed that there wouldn't be a funeral service for Siobhan in Port Charles because Siobhan's sister intended to take Siobhan's body to Ireland for burial.
Lucky changed the subject by asking if there had been any new developments with the case. Dante admitted that he had questioned Elizabeth, because she had been the last to see Siobhan alive. Dante told Lucky that, prior to her death, Siobhan had been eager to tell Lucky some important news about the drug ring.
Lucky realized that Siobhan might have been silenced, so her murder was on his hands. Dante was concerned about Lucky because it appeared that Lucky was on the edge. Lucky confessed that one of the most difficult things about being a recovering addict was that everyone constantly doubted him. Lucky realized that people had a right not to trust him, but he resented it. Dante advised Lucky to quit the case, but Lucky argued that it would be like admitting that he was using again when he wasn't.
Dante reminded Lucky that Lucky's wife had just died, so no one would question Lucky taking a leave of absence. Lucky refused to consider it after learning that someone in the drug ring might have murdered Siobhan. Dante feared that continuing the investigation was too big of a risk for Lucky to take. Dante doubted that Lucky wanted to jeopardize his sobriety after working hard to get clean. Dante confessed that he hoped that Lucky had the strength not to fall, and then left.
Later, an orderly handed Lucky an envelope containing the last of Siobhan's personal belongings. Lucky opened it, and then pulled out Siobhan's wedding band. Elizabeth rounded the corner as Lucky stared at Siobhan's wedding ring with tears in his eyes. Lucky slipped into the conference room, pulled out the bottle of pills, and then took a hydrocodone pill.
9/8 At the nurses' station, Matt was on his cell phone, finalizing plans for a special evening, when he noticed Elizabeth holding Jason's file. After Matt ended the call, he asked if Elizabeth were okay. She assured him that she was, but it had hit her that Jason had been close to dying. Jason's brush with death had made Elizabeth think about what she had once shared with Jason.
Matt thought that it was natural, so Elizabeth wondered why it felt weird to check on Jason. Matt suggested that it was normal to wonder how things would have played out if she had gone down another path. Elizabeth seemed surprised at his insight, but she argued that sometimes they had no control over the path that they took.
Seconds later, Elizabeth warned him that Maxie was approaching.
Matt tried to persuade Maxie to join him for dinner, but she babbled about the wedding plans, and finding the engagement ring. Maxie insisted that she would have to take a rain check; she asked him to text her a new date and time for their dinner, and then dashed off. Matt was frustrated, so he invited Elizabeth to a picnic.
A short time later, Matt ushered Elizabeth onto the hospital's rooftop, which had been transformed for a romantic starlit picnic. Elizabeth suspected that Matt had intended to propose marriage to Maxie, but he quickly clarified that he had hoped to tell Maxie that he was about to be published. Elizabeth was stunned when he revealed that it had been his project that she had been asked to help with months earlier.
Elizabeth was happy for Matt because she appreciated that his work would change lives. She was flattered that he had shared the news with her. Matt admitted that Maxie probably wouldn't have understood the significance of the work, but Elizabeth assured him that Maxie would have been supportive. Matt confessed that it wasn't Maxie's strong suit. He revealed that Maxie had a busy schedule, which made her the perfect girlfriend because it gave him the freedom to focus on his own work.
Elizabeth thought that Matt's work was amazing because he had made a major breakthrough in cancer treatment. She was sorry that his girlfriend didn't know about it. "But you do," Matt replied. Matt explained that Elizabeth had been able to take one look at the folder and know exactly what he was talking about. Matt confessed that the research had consumed him for years, so Elizabeth wondered why Matt hadn't told Patrick about it.
Matt admitted that he feared that Patrick would have viewed it as a challenge to best him. Elizabeth was curious why Matt hadn't shared the news with Noah, so Matt revealed that his father had never been interested in Matt's life, or his accomplishments, even though Noah had worked on a similar project in the 70s. Elizabeth was glad that she was there, even if it had been by default, to celebrate Matt's good news.
Elizabeth then thanked Matt for letting her vent about Siobhan the other day. Matt assured Elizabeth that everyone indulged in dark thoughts occasionally. The conversation then drifted to Lucky and Siobhan. Matt revealed that Siobhan's sister had claimed Siobhan's body, and then had blasted Lucky for Siobhan's death. Elizabeth felt terrible for Lucky, but Matt worried that Lucky might slip back to drugs.
Elizabeth explained that Lucky had worked hard to be sober, so she was certain that he would be able to fight the temptation. Matt was impressed with Elizabeth's faith and loyalty in Lucky; he admitted that everyone needed someone like Elizabeth in their lives. Elizabeth smiled, and then was forced to excuse herself after she received a page.
At the nurses' station, Elizabeth called Lucky, but reached his voicemail instead. She ended the call without leaving a message.
9/9 Anthony called one of his men, who was posing as an orderly at the hospital, just as the man was about to enter the drug storage room. Anthony told him to get to the bakery, pronto. Elizabeth happened by, just as the man went into the room. After the orderly left, Liz called Lucky but got his voicemail. After leaving a message, she followed the man to the waterfront.
As she called Lucky again, she was attacked from behind and dragged away. Lucky counted the pills he contemplated taking before flushing them down the sink. He desperately fought the urge to use. "You can't outrun your fate," he told himself. However, he then looked himself in the mirror and vowed that he wouldn't be like his father.
9/12 Anthony got a call, which he took on the balcony, out of Johnny's hearing. Anthony was not pleased to hear of trouble at the bakery. At the other end of the line, two of Anthony's thugs had captured Elizabeth, who was bound, gagged, and blindfolded. Anthony left the apartment immediately. Johnny followed.
Anthony met with his goons. He slapped Darryl and chastised him for letting Elizabeth follow him from the hospital. Anthony seemed relieved to learn that Elizabeth had spotted only Darryl before she was captured. Anthony told his thugs that he had a plan. He cautioned Darryl to keep his mouth shut. Anthony said that he would not hurt Darryl, but that if Darryl made another mistake, it would be his last.
9/13 In the alley behind Luzetta's Bakery, Joey and Darryl were crouched out of sight with Elizabeth, while Joey kept a firm grip over Elizabeth's mouth. Unaware of Elizabeth's plight, Spinelli searched the area for clues in the hopes of jogging his memory. Spinelli grew frustrated when he couldn't remember, so he left. Joey praised Elizabeth for keeping quiet, and not causing trouble for anyone else. Joey and Darryl decided to drag Elizabeth into the bakery before anyone discovered them.
Spinelli went to the waterfront to lie down on the dock,. He was about to leave when a gust of wind blew a wayward napkin under his feet. Spinelli picked up the napkin, and then noticed that Luzetta's name was emblazoned on it. A smile spread across his face as he stared at the napkin.
Later, Maxie walked along the pier as she left Sam a voicemail message to update Sam on search for the engagement ring. Maxie explained that she had retraced her steps, to no avail. However, she suddenly realized that she had forgotten to check Luzetta's, where she had sampled wedding cakes. She recalled that she had gotten some chocolate icing on the ring, so she had taken it off with the intention of cleaning it later. Maxie quickly ended the call and then dashed off to Luzetta's.
A short time later, Maxie entered the alley behind the bakery to check the dumpster for the crumpled up napkin where she had put the ring.
Maxie smiled victoriously when she found the ring a short time later. She slid the ring onto her finger just as Joey slipped out of the backdoor with his hostage. Maxie's smile disappeared when she realized that she and Elizabeth were in serious danger.
Dante was startled to find Lucky hiding out in the bathroom. Dante's concern turned to anger when he spotted the bottle of pills on Lucky's sink. "What the hell is this?" Dante demanded. Lucky begged Dante to stop him from making a drug buy, and then admitted that he had been taking hydrocodone. Dante was furious because he had covered for Lucky. Lucky explained that he had been shot up with drugs on the waterfront, but then he had succumbed to the lure of the pills.
However, Lucky clarified that he had only taken a few hydrocodone tablets; Lucky insisted that he had flushed the rest of the pills. Dante didn't understand how Lucky could have jeopardized his sobriety like that, but Lucky explained that addicts never really recovered, so they were never safe from a relapse. Dante handed his cell phone to Lucky and then ordered Lucky to call a sponsor or attend a meeting.
Lucky refused, but Dante insisted that Lucky couldn't stay in the bathroom until the urge to take drugs had faded. Lucky admitted that he might be tempted to score some drugs on the way to the meeting, so Dante decided to stay with Lucky. Dante suggested that they talk about where Lucky liked to go camping, but Lucky couldn't think clearly, so Dante decided that it might help Lucky to imagine sitting in a boat, and casting out a fishing line.
Lucky explained that he preferred to wade in the water, rather than fish from a boat.
Lucky then changed the subject by wondering if Dante and Lulu had worked things out. Dante revealed that Lulu had moved out; he realized that Lulu had been right to be concerned about Lucky. Lucky reminded Dante that he had assured Dante that the drugs wouldn't be a problem, so Dante wasn't to blame for the relapse. Dante regretted that he hadn't taken Lucky off of the investigation, but Lucky revealed that addicts were experts at deception.
Lucky admitted that it had been a dream case for him because finding a warehouse full of drugs was like finding a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Dante vowed that he wouldn't keep any more secrets from Lulu. Lucky realized that Dante had to do what was necessary. Lucky admitted that he should never have asked Dante to keep Lulu in the dark about what had happened. Lucky decided to check his voicemail, so Dante and Lucky listened to Elizabeth's frantic messages.
Lucky started to rush out of the door to find Elizabeth, but Dante insisted that Lucky wasn't in any condition to search for her. Lucky argued that he had failed Jake and Siobhan, so he refused to fail Elizabeth. Lucky decided to call Elizabeth, but she didn't answer her cell phone. Dante wanted to call the police, but Lucky asked Dante not to. Lucky explained that he wasn't asking Dante to cover for him because Lucky intended to tell Mac everything; however Lucky needed to find Elizabeth first because she was in trouble.
Lucky suddenly recalled that he had recognized one of the men who had held him down while J.T. had pumped drugs into Lucky's system. Lucky realized that the man had worked at Luzetta's Bakery, and that Siobhan's clue had been the first two letters of Luzetta's, and a partial "Z." Lucky and Dante realized that Elizabeth had overheard something that had led her to Luzetta's, so they headed to the bakery to investigate.
Anthony was on the phone with Joey. Anthony explained that he would have the drop aborted, so he instructed Joey to get Elizabeth out of the bakery. Joey wondered what he should do with Elizabeth, so Anthony ordered Joey to take her to a place to "chill," and not to worry about cleaning up any evidence.
Later, Lucky and Dante arrived at the alley, but there wasn't any sign of Elizabeth. They were startled when Spinelli suddenly appeared. Spinelli spotted Sam's engagement ring on the ground, so he picked it up and then revealed that Maxie had been there.
9/14 At the apartment, Lucky called Sly at the police station to ask Sly to run a check on Luzetta's Bakery. Afterwards, Lucky retrieved his lockbox, opened it, and then pulled out a gun. Lulu slowly entered the living room, and then asked if Lucky should be handling a gun. Lucky wondered what Lulu was doing there, so Lulu explained that she had been worried about Lucky.
Lucky wasn't in the mood to indulge her with a repetitive argument that went nowhere. He insisted that he didn't have the time, so Lulu held up the empty bottle of pills that she had found in his bathroom, and then demanded to know if he'd had time for the pills.
Lucky held out his hand as he asked her to give him back the bottle. Lulu held them out of reach as she accused Lucky of taking the pills. Lucky sarcastically admitted that he had taken every single one of them, but Lulu wasn't satisfied. She was adamant that he tell her what was going on. The anger seeped out of Lucky as he assured her that he had disposed of the pills. However, he insisted that he was on the clock, so she had to leave.
Lulu refused to budge until she had some answers.
Lucky realized that she didn't want to leave because she didn't trust him, but Lulu argued that he was the one who didn't trust her. Lulu insisted that Lucky should have told her that he had been struggling with the temptation of pills, so that she could have stopped him from taking the next step. Lucky explained that the drugs had been forced into his system, so he hadn't taken them willingly.
However, he conceded that the second time, he had taken a pill to prove himself to the drug dealer, and avoid jeopardizing the investigation.
"And then?" Lulu asked. Lucky confessed that he had popped a few more pills to numb himself from the pain of losing Siobhan and Jake. Lulu assured Lucky that she wouldn't have judged him if he had talked to her about it because she only wanted to help him.
Lucky appreciated it, but he explained that addicts lied, so he wouldn't have told her the truth because he had wanted to take the pills. Lulu didn't understand how Dante could have been so oblivious to Lucky's situation, but Lucky revealed that Dante had done all that he could to help Lucky. Lulu was furious because Dante had kept quiet about something that could have killed Lucky; she had no idea how to forgive Dante for that.
Lucky argued that Dante was not a bad guy because he had been protecting the case, Lucky, and Lulu. Lulu insisted that she didn't want to be protected with lies, so she couldn't be with a man who kept the truth from her. Lucky assured Lulu that Dante had planned to tell her everything, but Lulu argued that Dante hadn't gotten around to it. Lucky explained that Dante was a good guy, probably the best that she would ever find, so he urged his sister not to throw away what she had with Dante.
Lucky confessed that he didn't want to bear the responsibility of one more bad thing happening. Lulu was eager to help Lucky, but Lucky revealed that she couldn't because addiction was about the addict making choices; Lulu couldn't make those choices for him. Lulu claimed that it was just an excuse for him to push people away, just as Luke had done. Lucky suggested that perhaps he was more like their father than Lucky had thought.
Lulu admitted that at least Lucky had taken responsibility for his mistakes. Lucky assured Lulu that he loved her, and that she had good intentions; it meant more to him than he could say. "Thank you," Lulu replied. However, Lulu wanted to help in some way, so she offered to cook for Lucky. Lucky confided that he wasn't feeling well. Lulu was curious if the worst of the withdrawal symptoms were over, but Lucky confessed that he didn't know. However, he promised her that he would not backslide.
When Dante showed up, Lucky asked if Dante had any news about Elizabeth or Maxie. Dante shook his head, so Lucky revealed that Sly had discovered that Joey Bruzetta had been in Pentonville until recently, and that he had shared a cell with one of the Trujillos. Dante was curious where Spinelli was?
Lucky seemed confused because he had been under the impression that Spinelli had been with Dante. Neither man appeared concerned about Spinelli, so Lucky decided to take the empty bottle of pills to the police station, to log it in as evidence. Lulu returned to the living room just as Lucky was hit by a dizzy spell. However, Lucky quickly recovered, so he promised to return shortly.
At the door, Lucky wished them luck, and then left.
On the waterfront, Lucky contemplated the empty bottle of pills. Luke lurked nearby, spying on Lucky, but he quickly ducked out of sight when Lucky turned in Luke's direction after sensing that someone was watching him.
9/15 Anthony sat down in the waiting area of the hospital, near where Darryl was standing. He ordered Darryl to pretend to be working, instead of watching the medicine cabinet. Darryl assured Anthony that he had only slipped up once.
Anthony quickly reminded Darryl that the mistake had led Elizabeth straight to Luzetta's, which could have compromised everything. Darryl promised Anthony that Joey had stashed Elizabeth and Maxie away, but Anthony warned Darryl that nothing else had better go wrong.
In Jason's hospital room, Shawn reported that Elizabeth hadn't arrived home, so the babysitter had called Audrey to watch the boys. Jason ordered Shawn to get everyone out on the streets to search for Elizabeth and Maxie, and to find out what was going on at Luzetta's. Shawn suspected that the women had been moved from the bakery. Jason agreed, but he assured Shawn that Spinelli was working on it. Shawn wondered if that were a good idea, but Jason assured Shawn that Spinelli could do anything on a computer.
9/16 Elizabeth and Maxie, each of whose hands had been bound, tried to find a way out of the storage room they were locked in. Maxie asserted that Spinelli would find them and reminded Liz that Spinelli's mental state had led him to believe he was Jackal, P.I., the fearless detective character in the novel Diane was writing.
Elizabeth called attention to the fact that Maxie was acting as if she were still in love with Spinelli and wondered what that meant for Matt. Maxie was taken aback. Elizabeth expressed that she was offended by the way Maxie had been treating Matt. Maxie snidely declared that Liz was jealous. Joey yelled through the door for them to shut up.
Maxie demanded to know why Elizabeth was so protective of Matt. Elizabeth said she and Matt had a working relationship. Maxie compared Elizabeth's interest in Matt to Lisa's motivation to break up Patrick and Robin's marriage. Maxie mentioned that Lucky had married Siobhan, a woman he'd barely known, just to get over Jake's death.
Elizabeth and Maxie competed over the pain they'd each felt after losing a loved one, and Maxie told Liz to stay away from Matt. She referred to Elizabeth's affair with Nikolas. Liz reminded Maxie that Maxie had once supplied Lucky with drugs and faked a pregnancy to keep him and Liz apart. Maxie deridingly stated that Matt preferred a woman who took care of her appearance, not a harried mother who didn't have the time to look at herself in a mirror before leaving the house.
Maxie offered her wrists to Elizabeth to smell, stating that the fragrance was what had attracted Lucky and Spinelli. Maxie explained that she'd left a trail of coconut delight icing for Spinelli to follow. Elizabeth let Maxie know that she'd left Lucky voicemail messages but admitted that she'd not mentioned the location.
When Joey entered, Maxie fell to the floor and pretended to be sick. Elizabeth said it might be appendicitis and asked to examine her. Maxie pretended that she didn't want Elizabeth's help, which lent credibility to their ploy. Against his better judgment, Joey unbound Elizabeth's hands and allowed her to check Maxie out.
With her back to Joey, Liz took the rope off Maxie's hands and told Joey there were obvious signs that Maxie needed medical attention. When Joey went over to Maxie, Maxie shot him in the face with pepper spray. While he was temporarily blinded, Liz wrestled the keys from him, and Maxie was able to escape. However, the man who Liz had followed earlier arrived and prevented her from leaving. Joey left to find Maxie, while the other man held a gun on Elizabeth.
Lucky called Dante from the alley behind Luzetta's Bakery and updated him on the situation. Dante reported that there had been no sign of Maxie or Elizabeth. Lucky figured that Siobhan had tried to leave behind a clue when she'd written "LU" on her pillowcase with lipstick before she died. Lucky knew that Maxie would never have accidentally left behind the engagement ring in the alley. That, along with Elizabeth's phone found in the dumpster led both men to believe the women had been abducted.
After Lucky hung up, Spinelli arrived and explained that he'd left to apprise "Stone Cold" of the state of affairs. Spinelli noticed icing on the side of the dumpster and became obsessed with it. Lucky didn't read too much into Spinelli's strange behavior and left to search for more clues inside the bakery.
Spinelli tasted the frosting and discovered it to be coconut delight, a sure message from Maxie, he thought. Spinelli desperately searched for clues that would lead him into the direction Maxie had been taken. He found an item he thought important just as Maxie ran by, screaming, while Joey chased her.
Lucky searched inside the bakery and noticed bags of flour on the baking table. Suspicious, he cut one open and tasted its contents. He realized that they were filled with cocaine. He called Mac and told him he was booking what he'd found as evidence. Lucky placed a sack of flour into an evidence bag as he took a call from Sly, who informed Lucky that there might be a connection between the fire at Sonny's warehouse and the activities at Luzetta's.
9/19 Maxie and Elizabeth were able to trick Joey momentarily. Maxie managed to escape with Joey chasing after her. Darryl arrived and stopped Elizabeth before she could follow. Darryl made a phone call to Anthony. When Darryl told Anthony that he had a problem, Anthony told him that he created this mess and to make the problem go away for good and hung up.
Spinelli followed a trail of wedding cake icing that he believed would lead to Maxie. Spinelli had just found another dab when Maxie ran by with Joey following close behind. When Maxie climbed stairs to a narrow walkway, Joey followed and so did Spinelli. Neither Joey nor Maxie noticed him. Maxie tripped and fell on the walkway. Joey trapped her and leaned over.
Spinelli acted out his Jackal P.I. persona and pretended to have a gun in his pocket. Joey was momentarily distracted. Joey laughed at Spinelli and told him to shoot. When Spinelli pulled an empty hand out of his pocket, Joey pushed Spinelli to the deck and started kicking him. Spinelli told Maxie to run.
Instead, Maxie attacked Joey, who threw her off and went after her again. Spinelli again distracted Joey and told Maxie to run, but Maxie would not leave Spinelli. Joey kicked Spinelli several times and, when he appeared to no longer be a threat, Joey turned his attention to Maxie.
Spinelli sat up and looked at his flashlight. Spinelli got up, tapped Joey on the shoulder and when Joey turned, Spinelli shone the bright light in Joey's eyes and decked Joey while he was momentarily blinded. Joey got up and advanced toward them with a knife when a shot rang out, and Joey toppled over.
Neither Maxie nor Spinelli saw Johnny standing below holding a gun. Maxie asked if Joey was dead. Spinelli said that he had not killed Joey. Johnny called Anthony and said that he had disposed of the garbage that Anthony had left behind.
Darryl pulled a cloth and a vial from his pocked. As Darryl soaked the cloth, he told Elizabeth that he would use the same drug on her that he had used to kill Siobhan. When Darryl tried to put the cloth over Elizabeth's mouth and nose, she bit him and managed to escape. Darryl chased after.
Lucky was feeling the effects of withdrawal as he searched the back alleys. He stumbled several times and appeared disoriented. Lucky was slumped down by a dumpster when Elizabeth ran into the alley with Darryl close behind. Lucky yelled for Elizabeth to fall down. When she did, Lucky shot Darryl. Dante and other policemen showed up to give Lucky and Elizabeth assistance.
Elizabeth told her story, citing Darryl's confession that he had killed Siobhan. When Elizabeth said that the thug chasing Maxie was named "Joey," Lucky said that Joey was the one who had shot him up. Lucky admitted privately to Dante that he was feeling the effects of drug withdrawal. Lucky told Dante that Elizabeth had nearly been killed. Lucky said he was going to figure out who was behind the drug ring and nail him. Lucky gave Dante the evidence he had collected earlier then left to investigate a shot they had all heard.
9/20 Lucky appeared to ask if Maxie and Spinelli were okay. Maxie and Spinelli assured Lucky that they were unharmed, but they couldn't say the same for the thug who had tried to kill them. Maxie bragged that Spinelli had knocked the man out with a single punch.
Lucky checked Joey for a pulse, as Spinelli explained that he and Maxie had been celebrating when Joey had regained consciousness. According to Spinelli, Joey had been prepared to attack them from behind when a "silent projectile" had felled the thug.
Lucky realized that a silencer had been used to fire the deadly shot, so he was curious if Maxie or Spinelli had seen the shooter.
Maxie and Spinelli shook their heads, so Lucky deduced that someone had killed Joey to keep Joey from talking to the police, not to protect Maxie and Spinelli. Lucky stepped away to call Dante, so Maxie tried to see if she could spot the ring in the water. Spinelli feared that it was a lost cause.
Moments later, Lucky returned to inform Maxie and Spinelli that a squad car would take them to the hospital to be checked out. Maxie was still upset about losing the ring, so Lucky suggested that they advise Jason to pick out a replacement ring. After Maxie and Spinelli walked to the squad car, Lucky noticed a bottle of hydrocodone near Joey's body.
In the alley behind Luzetta's Bakery, Elizabeth revealed to Dante that Lucky had arrived in the knick of time. According to Elizabeth, Darryl had intended to kill her when Lucky had shot Darryl. Elizabeth admitted that Lucky had been there for her when she had needed him, which was all that she wanted Dante to put in his report.
Moments later, Mac walked up eager for news about Maxie. Dante confessed that they had reports that shots had been fired near where Maxie and Elizabeth had been held, so Lucky had gone to investigate. Mac felt better knowing that Lucky was on it, but he prayed that Maxie was okay.
A few minutes later, Lucky called Dante with an update. Dante quickly passed along the message that Maxie and Spinelli were unharmed, and that Joey had been killed. Mac was greatly relieved. After Dante ended the call with Lucky, Mac questioned Elizabeth about what she knew. Elizabeth explained that Lucky had suspected that someone at the hospital had been part of the drug ring, and that it appeared that Siobhan had known more than she should have.
Elizabeth explained that Darryl had revealed details about Siobhan's death that only her killer would have known. Mac realized that Lucky had killed Siobhan's murderer. Dante told Mac about Siobhan's clue, and the discovery that certain bags of flour in Luzetta's had been filled with drugs. Mac wondered how the drug ring had nabbed Elizabeth, so she revealed that she had followed Darryl after seeing him steal drugs from the hospital. Mac suggested that Elizabeth had been either incredibly brave or very stupid.
Elizabeth assured Mac that she had left several messages on Lucky's voicemail about Darryl. She had been confident that Lucky would find her. A police officer snagged Mac's attention, so Mac stepped away for a minute. Dante warned Elizabeth that it would be better for Lucky if she didn't say too much about her involvement in the investigation. Shortly afterwards, Dante took Elizabeth to the hospital for treatment.
Later, Lucky met up with Mac in the alley behind Luzetta's. Mac thanked Lucky for helping Maxie, but Lucky insisted that he hadn't done much because Maxie and Spinelli had caught a break when someone had killed Joey. Mac wondered if there were any leads on the shooter, so Lucky assured his boss that he was working on it.
However, Lucky explained that two men, who had been part of the drug ring, had been found shot to death on Pier 14. Lucky admitted that it looked like they had been in a stand-off, but Lucky suspected that someone had made it look that way because the injuries had been perfect "kill-shots." Mac agreed that the murders were a little too convenient.
Elizabeth was on the phone with her grandmother as she and Dante stepped off of the elevator. Elizabeth promised Audrey that she was fine, and that she would pick up Cam and Aiden soon. However, Elizabeth asked Audrey not to tell Cam about what had happened because Elizabeth didn't want Cam to worry. After Elizabeth ended the call, Matt spotted Elizabeth. Matt was immediately concerned about Elizabeth, but she insisted that she was unharmed. Dante revealed that Elizabeth had been favoring her right leg, so he urged Matt to examine her.
Matt reached up to hold Elizabeth's head still while he looked at the gash on her forehead. Maxie and Spinelli rounded the corner in time to see Matt and Elizabeth. Maxie quickly approached Matt, and then informed him that she and Spinelli had almost been killed, so they needed immediate medical attention. Matt turned to see what Maxie's injuries were, so Maxie showed him her hand. "That's it?" Matt asked. Maxie insisted that the entire experience had been traumatic, so Elizabeth suggested that a nurse could find a bandage for Maxie's hand.
"So much for the sisterhood of hostages," Maxie complained. Elizabeth assured Maxie that she was glad that Maxie hadn't been hurt, but Maxie insisted that she and Spinelli had almost died. Maxie credited Spinelli with saving her life. Matt examined Spinelli's bruised hand, and determined that Spinelli had a "boxer's fracture."
Spinelli smiled until Matt promised to treat the hand, so that Spinelli could quickly get back to the computer. Maxie was miffed when Matt insisted that Elizabeth needed the gash on her head stitched up, so Elizabeth would have to be treated first. Matt advised Maxie to go home, and to take a long, hot shower.
Meanwhile, in the alley behind Luzetta's, Mac commended Lucky for a job well done. Mac confessed that he'd had doubts about Lucky handling the investigation, but Lucky had proved him wrong. Lucky pulled out the bottle of pills that he had found near Joey's body, but Dante quickly snatched the bottle of pills from Lucky.
Dante offered to log the narcotics into evidence, so Mac left. Lucky was curious why Dante had stopped Lucky from telling Mac about the incident with J.T., so Dante advised Lucky to allow the drugs to get out of his system before Lucky talked to Mac about it.
9/21 Elizabeth stopped by Jason’s, and explained that she had stopped by because she needed to tell Jason something before the wedding. Spinelli immediately tried to intercede by suggesting that some things were better left unsaid. Jason sent Spinelli upstairs with the laptop to find Sonny's missing millions. After Spinelli left, Jason noticed that Elizabeth seemed nervous.
Elizabeth admitted that she was anxious, but Jason reminded her that they were past the point where they had to worry about what they said to each other. Elizabeth apologized, prompting Jason to wonder if she were troubled about what had happened to Jake. Elizabeth explained that she was sorry for the crash, which had nearly killed Jason. Jason insisted that it wasn't necessary because he knew that she hadn't intended to hurt anyone. Elizabeth confessed that she had made a lot of bad choices since their son's death.
"What? You think that's unforgivable, not understandable?" Jason asked. Elizabeth insisted that one mistake didn't excuse another. Elizabeth confided that she would never stop blaming herself for not keeping an eye on Jake that fateful night. Jason conceded that he hadn't kept an eye on things either; otherwise she wouldn't have been grabbed by the men at Luzetta's Bakery.
Elizabeth insisted that she had made a mistake by following the thug, but Jason reminded her that she had just been concerned about Lucky. She argued that her mistakes seemed to cost more than others, so Jason told her that they had to believe that they were where they were supposed to be, "right now." Elizabeth smiled sadly as she admitted that he could only be a hero to one woman at a time.
9/22 At Lucky's apartment, Lucky was packing Siobhan's things when Dante stopped by to discuss the drug ring investigation. Dante revealed that J.T., Joey, and Darryl had served time in Pentonville when Anthony had been incarcerated at the same prison. However, Dante admitted that they couldn't tie them together because there had been thousands of other prisoners at Pentonville during that timeframe.
“So, we are at a dead end," Lucky realized.
"Yes," Dante replied, and then switched gears by confessing that he had proposed to Lulu.
"And?" Lucky wondered. Dante revealed that Lulu had promised to think about it. "Oh," Lucky replied. Dante was curious what that meant, so Lucky asked if Dante were certain that he wanted to be a part of the Spencer family. Dante reminded Lucky that he would be marrying Lulu, not the entire family. Lucky argued that they were a package deal.
Dante realized that Lucky had a point, so he asked for some insight into Lulu. Lucky admitted that he would love to help, but Spencers were unpredictable. Lucky pointed to his father as a perfect example. Lucky explained that he had thought that he knew Luke, but Luke had managed to blindside Lucky. Dante felt bad for dredging up some bad memories when Lucky was going through a difficult time, so he decided to make a graceful exit.
Lucky reminded Dante that Dante and Lulu's situation was different than Lucky and Siobhan's had been, because Dante and Lulu knew that they loved each other going into the marriage. Dante argued that he and Lulu had baggage, so Lucky advised Dante not to hold back or try to play it safe. Lucky reminded Dante that no one knew if it were their last day on earth, so they should love the people that they were given to love, while they had the chance.
Dante confessed that he had been hooked the moment that he had met Lulu, because she was unlike anyone that he had known. Lucky suggested that Dante be patient; Lulu might simply need some time to say yes. Dante smiled when Lucky admitted that he hoped that Lulu accepted Dante's proposal.
Dante was pleased that he had Lucky's approval, so he turned the conversation back to Anthony Zacchara. Dante suspected that Jason and Sam's wedding would provide the perfect opportunity for someone to make a move against Sonny because Jason and Sonny would be distracted. Lucky agreed. They realized that the following evening was a critical time, so they had to be in place, in the event that Anthony, or anyone else, made a move against Sonny.
9/23 Dante and Lucky strategized about how find evidence that tied Anthony to the drug ring. They decided that Jason's wedding offered the Zaccharas a perfect opportunity to move their merchandise or to attack one of Sonny's warehouses. They looked at a map. Lucky wanted to split the possible Zacchara targets, but Dante insisted that he could handle the search alone, including Sonny's legitimate coffee warehouse.
Dante said that he noticed that Lucky was still recovering from the drugs in his system and still experiencing withdrawal. Dante told Lucky to stay home and recover. Reluctantly Lucky agreed. After Dante left, Lucky packed up Siobhan's things. When he looked under the couch, he found two narcotic pills.
9/27 At Lucky's apartment, Ethan grew concerned when he found Lucky lying on the floor, staring at something between the sofa and the end table. Lucky assured his brother that he was fine, but Ethan had his doubts when he spotted two hydrocodone pills on the floor. Lucky, nor Ethan, noticed the envelope under the coffee table that read, "To Lucky, If I should leave you."
Ethan wondered how Lucky had ended up with the pills, so Lucky revealed that he had taken them from J.T., and then later succumbed to temptation. Ethan wasn't surprised that Jake's tragic death and Luke's problems had pushed Lucky over the edge, but he was curious why Lucky hadn't take the pills on the floor. Lucky realized that it looked strange, but he wanted Ethan to trust him.
Lucky explained that he had to face his demons. Ethan sat down on the floor next to Lucky, who continued to stare at the pills. Ethan respected Lucky's decision, but he was grateful that their sister seemed untouched by the family problems, although he did concede that she had "daddy issues." However, Ethan was hopeful because Lulu had decided to accept Dante's proposal of marriage.
Lucky was pleased to hear about Lulu's plans, but he feared that Lulu might become upset when Dante arrived late. Lucky revealed that he had been with Dante earlier that evening, but Dante had sent Lucky home because Dante had realized that Lucky hadn't been in the right frame of mind to work.
According to Lucky, Dante had decided to check out Sonny's property alone. Ethan suspected that Lulu would be livid when she learned why Dante was late, but he was certain that she would also forgive him. Ethan then questioned if Laura knew about Luke's problems. Lucky admitted that they had told Laura about Jake's death in a crash, but they hadn't revealed that Luke had been driving the car.
Lucky added that they had also kept quiet about Luke's intervention, and the fire at the Spencer house. Lucky explained that Laura's recovery was fragile, so they had been reluctant to pile too much on her at once. Lucky admitted that it was a miracle that Laura was able to function after she had spent years in a catatonic state, staring out a window in a sanitarium.
Ethan realized that lies by omission were a Spencer family tradition, so he understood why Lulu had been so upset about Dante's secret. Lucky conceded that Ethan had a point. According to Lucky, Ethan and Lucky were like their father, but Lulu was exactly like Laura. Ethan was curious if Lulu and Laura were really that similar, so Lucky revealed that there was a painting of Laura at Wyndemere, which had been painted when Laura had been Lulu's age.
Lucky insisted that Lulu and Laura could have easily passed as sisters. Lucky resumed staring at the pills on the floor, so Ethan admitted that he was reluctant to leave Lucky alone. Lucky argued that he had to fight his own battles, but Ethan feared that Lucky might not be strong enough. Lucky pointed out that there was only one way to find out. Ethan conceded that Lucky had a point, so he left.
Moments later, Lucky stood up, picked up his cell phone, and then left a message for Dante. Lucky explained that he had decided to work, so he intended to track Dante down. Lucky started to leave, but his cell phone rang, so Lucky answered it.
9/29 At Elizabeth's house, Elizabeth returned to the living room after tucking Cam in for the night. She smiled when she saw Lucky rocking Aiden. "You're so good with him," Elizabeth said. Lucky admitted that he loved spending time with their son. Elizabeth wondered if she had heard him singing to Aiden, so Lucky nodded and then revealed that it had been a song that Laura would sing to Lucky and Lulu when they were young.
Lucky put Aiden down in the playpen, and then joined Elizabeth on the sofa. Lucky confessed that he had been thinking a lot about his mother, and that he had hoped that Laura would have met Aiden already. He had also wanted Laura to meet Siobhan, but that would never happen. Elizabeth was curious if Laura knew about Siobhan's passing, so Lucky explained he'd been reluctant to jeopardize Laura's recovery.
Elizabeth wondered what Laura knew about their breakup, and her affair with Nikolas? Lucky admitted that he had simply told his mother that he and Elizabeth had drifted apart. According to Lucky, Lulu had been furious with how Lucky and Nikolas had decided to "manage" Laura. Lucky realized that it was probably why Lulu had been so angry with Dante for keeping secrets. Elizabeth suggested that she and Lucky take Aiden to meet Laura.
Lucky loved the idea, but he confided that Laura would be getting some good news soon because Lulu had decided to accept Dante's proposal of marriage. Elizabeth was happy for Lulu and Dante. She recalled how delighted Lulu had been when they had decided to remarry, because it had been a sign that two people, who were meant to be together, could overcome any obstacle. Elizabeth was pleased that it was Lulu and Dante's turn.
Lucky hoped that it worked out for his sister and Dante. Elizabeth was relieved that Lulu realized that Elizabeth and Dante had been trying to protect Lucky. She admitted that she was proud of Lucky, and how he had handled things after the incident on the docks. "Don't be," Lucky replied. He admitted that he had relapsed after J.T. had injected him with the drugs. Elizabeth wondered if he were currently using, so Lucky assured her that he was clean.
Elizabeth relaxed, but Lucky warned her that it was not okay. Lucky confessed that he had been craving the drugs on the night that she had been abducted in the alley behind Luzetta's Bakery, so he shouldn't have been handling a gun. Elizabeth continued to make excuses for Lucky, so Lucky reminded her that he'd always had a choice about taking drugs.
Moments later, Mac arrived to break the news to Lucky that Dante had been shot. Mac revealed that Dante had been off-duty, so he had no idea why Dante had been at Sonny's warehouse. Lucky was filled with remorse, because he realized that Dante might not have been shot if Lucky hadn't left. Lucky told Mac that he and Dante had suspected that Sonny's enemies would use Jason and Sam's wedding as an opportunity to make a move against Sonny, so they had decided to check out all of Sonny's properties.
Mac wondered why Lucky had cancelled on Dante. Elizabeth tried to cover for Lucky by explaining that it had been a family matter, but Lucky decided to tell Mac about being shot up with drugs on the waterfront, and his relapse.
Mac was disappointed that Lucky hadn't talked to him sooner about what had happened on the piers, but he was more concerned if Lucky were still using.
Lucky admitted that he was trying to stop, but he couldn't make any promises because he had just been on the floor, staring at a couple of pills, before visiting Elizabeth and the boys. However, Lucky was through lying to everyone, including himself. When Lucky arrived at GH, Lulu begged him to find out who had been responsible for Dante’s shooting, but Lucky revealed that he couldn't do that.
9/30 Lulu begged Lucky to find out who had shot Dante. Lucky explained to her that he would be taking a leave of absence. He let Lulu know that he'd admitted to Mac that he was hooked on pills again. Lulu asked why Lucky had gone forward with the truth at that point. Lulu was shocked to discover that Lucky had only quit using after Dante had been shot.
Lucky said that he wanted to make sure his children didn't have to clean up after their father's messes the way Lucky and Lulu had always needed to with Luke. Lucky confessed to Lulu that Dante had gone to the warehouse alone, because Lucky had been incapacitated at the time.
An enraged Lulu slapped her brother. Distraught, she blurted out that it should have been Lucky who'd been shot. She apologized but asked Lucky to leave. Lucky went back to his loft and contemplated how his actions had affected those he loved. He went to pick up the pills he'd earlier thrown on the floor and saw an envelope under a table.
10/4 At the hospital, Elizabeth saw Matt dancing around his office, and waving his arms in the air, as she passed by his office window. She knocked on the door, and then opened to the door to find out what was going on. Matt confessed that he was celebrating, and then handed her a letter that he had received. Elizabeth quickly scanned it as he confirmed that his research paper would be published.
Elizabeth congratulated Matt, but he revealed that there was more good news. Matt explained that a patient with a tumor, that hadn't responded to chemotherapy or radiation, had been admitted the previous evening. Matt intended to ask the patient to be a part of the clinical trial. Elizabeth was curious if he had been referring to Mr. Brockman. It was Matt's turn to be surprised. Elizabeth revealed that Patrick had asked Elizabeth to run some tests on Mr. Brockman, so Matt was curious why.
Elizabeth admitted that Patrick had been assigned Mr. Brockman's case. Matt was livid, so Elizabeth quickly assured Matt that Patrick would turn the case over to Matt. Matt made it clear that he refused to beg Patrick, because he suspected that Patrick had his own agenda in regards to Mr. Brockman.
Elizabeth reminded Matt that Matt was about to be published, but Matt explained that Elizabeth didn't understand. According to Matt, he could cure cancer with a grape flavored pill in the shape of everyone's favorite cartoon character, but it still wouldn't be good enough for Patrick, or their father, Noah.
In the hallway, Elizabeth spotted Matt, so she asked if he had been given Mr. Brockman's case. Matt confided to Elizabeth about Patrick's reaction when Matt had showed his brother the paper. According to Matt, Patrick had seemed flabbergasted that a reputable journal would publish Matt.
Elizabeth pointed out that Matt's work would save lives, so Matt should be proud of himself. Matt promised to work on it, so Elizabeth offered to be proud of him for both of them. Maxie left the office just as Matt and Elizabeth shared a brief hug, and then went their separate ways.
10/6 At Lucky's apartment, Lucky stared at the envelope that Siobhan had addressed to him, but he was reluctant to open it. Moments later, Ethan knocked on the door. Lucky was surprised when his brother showed him the damaged portrait of Laura. Lucky wanted to know where Ethan had gotten the painting, but Ethan explained that it was a long story.
Ethan recalled that the last time that he had seen Lucky, Lucky had been locked in an epic battle with Lucky's demons, so Ethan was curious who had won. Lucky revealed that the pills were still on the floor, if that answered Ethan's question.
Ethan suggested that they toss the pills, but Lucky wanted them to stay where they were until Lucky no longer had an impulse to check to see if they were still there. Ethan decided to drop it, so Lucky returned to the topic of the painting. Ethan revealed that he had gone to Wyndemere, because his interest had been piqued after his talk with Lucky.
Lucky was curious if anyone had been in residence, so Ethan admitted that Helena had been skulking around the castle. Ethan explained that Helena had been looking for something that she had misplaced. "Her soul?" Lucky wondered. Ethan chuckled, and then revealed that Helena had seemed genuinely disappointed that she hadn't found what she had been searching for.
Lucky feared that Ethan and Helena had bonded during their chat, but Ethan quickly eased his brother's mind by revealing that Helena had whacked Ethan over the head, and then held a knife to his throat. Ethan explained that Helena had decided that it was time for the Spencers to learn a lesson about trespassing. Lucky was horrified when Ethan confessed that Helena had also tried to seduce him. Ethan quickly explained that she had been hoping to make Ethan uncomfortable. According to Ethan, it had worked.
Ethan admitted that he had asked Helena about Laura. Lucky was certain that Helena had blamed Laura for Stavros' and Stefan's deaths. Ethan nodded, and then revealed that Helena had given him a dagger to fight off the ghosts lurking in the castle. Lucky was surprised when Ethan confided that Helena had warned Ethan that there were things in the castle that even she feared.
Ethan explained that he had heard strange noises after Helena had left, so Lucky suggested that Helena had been responsible for them. The conversation then drifted to Luke when Ethan told Lucky about Helena's last encounter with their father. Lucky was curious if Helena knew where Luke was. Ethan wondered if Lucky cared. Lucky explained that he had stopped caring about Luke when Luke had confessed that running over Jake had been liberating.
Ethan was certain that Luke hadn't meant it, but Lucky quickly steered the conversation back to Wyndemere. Ethan revealed that he had been lured into the secret tunnels by an unknown entity, but nothing had been amiss until Ethan had returned to the room where he had entered the passageway. Ethan had noticed that someone had taken a glove that Ethan had left on the table. Lucky dismissed it as one of Helena's pranks, and then suggested that she had also damaged Laura's portrait.
Ethan wanted to call Lulu, so that she could see the painting, but Lucky didn't think that it was a good idea. Lucky explained that Lulu was mad at him, and then quickly filled Ethan in on what had transpired at the hospital. Ethan suspected that Lulu had been terrified for Dante, so she had lashed out at someone safe.
Lucky regretted that he had unloaded on his sister, instead of supporting her. Ethan reminded Lucky that Lulu was strong, so he was confident that Lulu would be fine. Lucky argued that Lulu was too much like Laura; she held everything in until her entire world crumbled. Ethan assured Lucky that, at the end of the day, Lulu loved Lucky.
Lucky admitted that Lulu had been right to blame him, because Lucky had let Dante, and everyone else, down. Ethan warned Lucky not to lump Jake into that category, because Jake's death had been a tragedy that no one could have prevented.
"And Siobhan?" Lucky wondered. Lucky showed Ethan the envelope that Siobhan had left, and then explained that he couldn't open it, because it would mean that Siobhan was really gone. Ethan urged Lucky to open it, because Ethan believed that it might help Lucky to move on. Ethan then collected the painting, promised to show it to Lulu, and then get it repaired. After Ethan left, Lucky opened the envelope.
At the nurses' station, Elizabeth referred to Matt as a superstar as she wondered how he was doing. Matt didn't think that his accomplishment had been a big deal, but Elizabeth reminded him that few doctors were published. Matt confessed that he didn't know why he felt disappointed; he realized that it should be about the research and helping patients, not accolades.
Elizabeth assured Matt that his friends and family were proud of him, even if they couldn't find the words to properly express it. Elizabeth was surprised when Matt admitted that he wished that his mother were around, because he was certain that she would have been proud of him. Elizabeth didn't want to pry, but she was curious why Matt never talked about her.
Matt assured Elizabeth that he didn't mind her asking, and then revealed that his mother had passed away after childbirth. Matt explained that his mother had needed to have a hysterectomy following the birth of a stillborn child. According to Matt, his mother had been given diluted doses of the wrong medication, which had led to fatal blood clots.
Elizabeth realized that Matt had helped Lucky with his investigation, because it had been reminiscent of how Matt's mother had died. She offered Matt her condolences, but he assured her that he'd had time to adjust, because it had happened long before. Matt admitted that his mother's death had been the reason that he had gotten into medicine.
Elizabeth knew that Matt and Patrick had different mothers, but she wondered if Matt had ever discussed what had happened with Patrick. Matt revealed that Elizabeth had been the first person to ever ask him about his mother. He doubted that his brother was interested, but Elizabeth suggested that perhaps Patrick simply didn't know how to broach the subject.
Elizabeth explained that half of the staff avoided her, because they were afraid to mention Jake's name. Matt smiled when Elizabeth promised him that his mother was proud of him and his accomplishments. Matt thanked her, revealed that he had an important errand, and then left.
Moments later, Maxie walked up to the nurses' station, looking for Matt. Elizabeth explained that Matt had stepped away to do something important. Maxie revealed that she intended to throw Matt a party to celebrate the publication of his research paper. Elizabeth wondered if the party was to celebrate Matt's accomplishment, or to make up for Maxie not noticing that he had been doing groundbreaking research. Maxie resented Elizabeth's implication that Maxie was a bad girlfriend.
"If the shoe fits," Elizabeth replied without apology. Maxie insisted that Matt appreciated the space that Maxie gave him, and that they didn't need to tell each other every little thing. "Little thing?" Elizabeth asked. Maxie conceded that the research paper had become a "big thing," but Maxie explained that it was partly due to Maxie giving Matt the space to get the work done. Maxie bragged that she was a woman who stood behind a man, not some "clingy needy albatross."
Elizabeth wasn't surprised that Maxie would say anything to make herself look good, but Maxie argued that it didn't matter what Elizabeth thought, as long as Matt got it. Elizabeth advised Maxie to make the celebration about Matt, "for once.” Maxie didn't have an opportunity to respond, because Mac walked up and Elizabeth turned away.
Matt returned to the nurses' station, where Elizabeth was working. Matt wondered if she had been outside. He revealed that it was an unbelievably clear night. Elizabeth was happy to see that Matt was in a much better mood, so Matt confessed that he had thought about what she had said earlier.
Matt believed that the people who had passed away were still with them, so they just had to be open to their presence. "Like your mom," Elizabeth added. Matt was certain that his mother was proud of him, just as Jake was proud of Elizabeth. Spinelli lurked nearby, watching Matt and Elizabeth.
10/7 At Lucky's loft, Lucky read the letter from Siobhan he'd found. In it, Siobhan admonished Lucky to move forward with his life without regrets. She also suggested that he have faith that magic existed. Included with the letter were a linen handkerchief, embroidered by Siobhan's grandmother; a rosary that had belonged to Siobhan's great-uncle, who'd died as a child; and a handmade cross.
Siobhan's instructions to Lucky were that he visit her home and dip the rosary into a pond during a full moon. She promised that a message would be revealed. Just as Lucky put the package away, there was a knock on the door. Lucky was surprised to find Luke.
10/10 Luke went to see Lucky at Lucky's apartment. Luke asked if Lucky was surprised to see him. Lucky said no because it was Luke's pattern to disappear and then make a grand reentrance. Luke asked if Lucky was angry. Lucky said no, he was tired and that it was all about the dance to Luke. Luke vowed that he was done dancing, and he just wanted to get past the ugliness. Lucky agreed. He told Luke that they were good and then thanked him for visiting.
Luke said that they were not good and there were things that they needed to talk about. Lucky said that the last time they had talked, Luke had resigned from fatherhood. Lucky said he had accepted Luke's resignation. When Luke mentioned his abusive father, Tim, Lucky said that Luke did not get a free pass because his old man had been messed up.
Luke said he was not making excuses. He said that he should not have spoken to Lucky as he had when Lucky had gone to him in the Florida brothel where he was licking his wounds. Luke declared that at the time, he had thought that he was doing Lucky a favor. Luke then expressed sympathy over Siobhan's death.
Lucky asked if Luke had had fun while away. Luke said it had not been a pleasure cruise. Luke told Lucky that he'd had some thinking to do and that things had changed. Luke said he had hit bottom and was trying to make things better. When Lucky did not respond, Luke acknowledged that Lucky was not making it easy. Lucky jumped on that and told Luke that it would be easy if Luke just walked away.
Luke said he did not want to walk away. Luke said he wanted a fresh start, and he was beginning with an apology for saying things that he regretted, like fatherhood was a noose around his neck. When Luke told Lucky that he had changed and gave him an AA pamphlet, Lucky laughed and said that Luke had overplayed his hand and pushed the con too far. Luke replied that he had been sober for over a month.
When Luke said that he knew Lucky had been through a rough period, Lucky was incredulous. Lucky asked if Luke had seen Tracy, Luke admitted that he had seen both Tracy and Ethan, Lucky said that Luke should stay away from Lulu because she was fragile like their mother, Laura, and the last thing Lulu needed was for Luke to drop out of the sky, then walk away when things became inconvenient for him.
Luke said that he had loved Laura but that people changed and that romantic love did not always last. Luke affirmed that he would always love Laura. Lucky told Luke to do everyone a favor by going away and not looking back. Luke insisted that he wanted to make things right. Lucky asked how Luke expected to do that. Lucky reminded Luke that Lucky had gone to Luke with his heart in his hand, and Luke had responded by saying that killing Jake had been liberating.
Luke said he regretted saying that. Lucky replied that he did not have time for Luke's angst. Lucky said that he had only one focus. Lucky said he was trying to pick up the pieces of his life and move on after losing his father, his son, and his wife. Lucky told Luke it was a struggle to get through every day without using drugs to ease his pain. Lucky opened the door to his apartment and told Luke that he had nothing left to give. Luke suggested that they could help each other. Lucy told Luke to leave.
10/12 Elizabeth arrived home with her sons in tow. She noticed that Cam seemed quiet when she talked about going to the pumpkin patch and taking pictures. Cam explained that it wouldn't be the same without Jake. Elizabeth agreed that nothing would ever be the same. However, she insisted that they needed to find a new way to do things, because it was what Jake would have wanted.
Ethan went to Lucky's apartment to invite Lucky to the movies, and to dinner afterwards. Lucky claimed that he had other things to do, but Ethan didn't believe him. Ethan noticed that Lucky seemed troubled, so he guessed that Lucky had spoken to Luke. Lucky admitted that Luke had dropped off an AA pamphlet. Ethan thought that was a good sign, because it meant that Luke was serious about staying sober. Lucky disagreed.
According to Lucky, Luke had run out of places to go, and money, so Luke had returned to Port Charles to regroup. Lucky warned Ethan that Luke might try to rope Ethan into running a scam. Ethan smiled, and then confessed that Luke had already done that. However, Ethan insisted that Luke had seemed to have lots of regrets. Lucky didn't doubt it, because the regrets served Luke's purpose.
Ethan insisted that their father had seemed sincere about wanting to repair the damage that Luke had caused to his family. Lucky didn't trust Luke's desire to make amends, because he was certain that Luke would eventually disappear again. Ethan conceded that Luke was occasionally ruled by his demons, but Ethan reminded Lucky that they all had their demons to contend with. Lucky argued that he had acknowledged his problems, and gotten help, but Luke hadn't.
Ethan explained that everyone was different, so what worked for one person, might not work for another. Ethan then asked about the pills that Lucky had left on the floor. Lucky realized that Ethan feared the Lucky might have taken the hydrocodone pills, so Lucky fetched them, and then gave them to Ethan. Lucky asked Ethan to dispose of the pills.
Ethan wanted to make certain that Lucky wouldn't go out to score some more pills, as Lucky had threatened to do the last time that Ethan had offered to get rid of the pills. Lucky explained that seeing Luke had made him realize that he had to make better choices to avoid ending up like their father.
Lucky insisted that he didn't want that for himself. Lucky then shifted gears to tell Ethan about the letter that Siobhan had left, in the event of her death. Ethan thought it was rather morbid of her, given how young she was. However, Ethan was curious what the letter had said. Lucky revealed that Siobhan wanted Lucky to go to Ireland. Lucky showed Ethan the rosary, and then told his brother about the instructions that Siobhan had given Lucky.
Moments later, Cam called Lucky. Cam explained that he didn't want to go to the pumpkin patch unless Lucky went with him. Lucky promised to be there shortly, and then ended the call. At the Webber house, Elizabeth asked her son, "Yes?" Cam smiled, nodded, and then replied, "Yes."
Later, Lucky, Cam, Aiden, and Elizabeth returned to Elizabeth's house after picking out pumpkins at the pumpkin patch. Elizabeth sent Cam to the bathroom to wash up, and then thanked Lucky for joining them. She confessed that it was nice having Lucky there, because the house seemed less empty. Lucky smiled, and then explained that he had to leave.
Elizabeth was disappointed, because she had been hoping that he would stay for dinner. Lucky revealed that he had plans, but he promised to pick up Cam from school the following day. Elizabeth was curious if Lucky really wanted to miss out on carving pumpkins with the boys. She was taken aback when Lucky confessed that he couldn't continue to play house anymore.
Dvd #7B 10/13 At Elizabeth's house, Elizabeth wondered why Lucky was pulling back from her. Lucky admitted that he had hoped to explain things to her the other night, but he hadn't had the opportunity. According to Lucky, he and Elizabeth would never be able to find their way back to where they had once been, so he had tried to start a new life with Siobhan.
Elizabeth was hurt that Lucky was using Siobhan as an excuse to not give their relationship another try. Lucky explained that he couldn't ignore everything that had happened between them over the years, but Elizabeth feared that Lucky blamed her for Siobhan nearly dying during the surgery.
Elizabeth didn't want to talk ill of the dead, but she insisted that Siobhan had been jealous. Elizabeth was certain that Siobhan had seen the strong bond between Lucky and Elizabeth. Lucky argued that what he and Elizabeth had shared wasn't healthy; it had become toxic for them, and those around them. Elizabeth was certain that they could do better if they truly loved each other. "Don't do this," Lucky quietly replied.
"Do you love me?" Elizabeth tearfully asked. Lucky insisted that they were caught in a vicious cycle, which Siobhan had recognized. Lucky explained that he and Elizabeth were like two junkies, who were past the point of no return. Elizabeth thought that Lucky's grief and guilt were turning what they had once shared into something that it wasn't, but Lucky dared Elizabeth to deny that they had been anything except dysfunctional and destructive.
Elizabeth picked up their wedding picture, and then challenged Lucky to deny that the people in the picture hadn't loved each other. Lucky insisted that it was in the past, so Elizabeth pulled out pictures of the boys. Lucky argued that it wasn't fair to Cam and Aiden to put them through another relationship that was doomed to fail. Lucky promised that he would always be there for Cam and Aiden.
"Just not for me," Elizabeth realized. Lucky assured Elizabeth that he didn't want to hurt her, but he insisted that they had to let go. Elizabeth reminded Lucky how much he had needed her while he had been in the grips of a drug-induced haze after J.T. had pumped him full of narcotics. Elizabeth insisted that they had shared a connection, because Lucky had gone to the one place where he had been certain that Elizabeth would find him.
Elizabeth assured Lucky that being with her wouldn't be a betrayal to Siobhan. She insisted that Lucky had to move on.
"I am moving on, Elizabeth. I'm leaving," Lucky quietly replied. Elizabeth was stunned. She wondered where he was going, and when he would be back. Lucky admitted that he didn't know, but he was adamant that he needed to go. Elizabeth realized that Lucky needed time to think things over, so she suggested that they talk when he returned from his trip.
Elizabeth's heart broke when Lucky made it clear that he would not be returning to be with her. According to Lucky, they were the definition of insanity, because they kept doing the same things over, expecting different results. Lucky claimed that their love had been an adolescent fantasy.
Lucky reminded her that she had been with Nikolas for months, and that Lucky had chosen drugs over her. Elizabeth was crushed. Lucky promised to stay in touch with her, but Elizabeth accused him of leaving her and the boys. Lucky apologized, as Elizabeth cried. He assured her that it wasn't her fault, but Elizabeth wasn't comforted.
After Lucky left, Elizabeth looked at their wedding picture. She admitted that Lucky had her heart, but she decided that she was through with him. "To hell with you, Lucky," Elizabeth yelled as she threw the picture across the room. "I'm done," she added.
Lucky returned to his apartment, packed his bag, and then re-read Siobhan's letter. He put the items that she had given to him, along with the letter, into an envelope, and then picked up his suitcase. Moments later, Lucky left.
10/14 Robin noticed Elizabeth's foul mood and asked what was going on. Elizabeth let Robin know that Lucky was leaving town after they'd had a big fight. Elizabeth disparaged Siobhan's having become "the great, tragic love of his life.”
Ethan took the painting of the woman he'd found at Wyndemere to Lucky's loft apartment. Ethan asked how Elizabeth had fit into Lucky's decision to leave. Lucky stated that, after having learned Aiden was his son, and since Elizabeth had cared for Lucky as he'd recuperated from his injuries, the two had fallen back into a familiar pattern.
However, Lucky was afraid to reconcile with her again. Ethan prompted his brother to think with his heart, and Lucky acknowledged that his feelings for Elizabeth were as strong as they'd ever been. Regardless, Lucky planned to pursue Siobhan's mystery in Ireland.
Lucky noted that Ethan had restored the painting and said that he'd always found it creepy. Ethan explained he planned to return it to Wyndemere and shared how much he loved the place. Lucky cautioned Ethan. People had died and people had lost their minds there. Lucky referred to the Cassadine curse and warned Ethan about Helena.
10/17 Elizabeth went to Lucky's apartment to give him a picture of Cam and Aiden at the pumpkin patch. When she arrived, Ethan told her that Lucky had left on a quest for Siobhan. Elizabeth was sarcastic and blamed Siobhan for interfering with the life Elizabeth and Lucky could have together. Ethan had a different opinion. He asked Elizabeth why she resented someone who was not there.
Ethan told Elizabeth that Lucky was not off chasing ghosts, but taking a long-needed break from Elizabeth because of the destructive relationship they shared. Elizabeth disagreed. She told Ethan that Lucky had called for her, not Siobhan, when he had been shot up with drugs. Ethan replied that Lucky's actions proved Ethan's point. Ethan said that Elizabeth and Lucky were no longer teenagers and that perhaps it was time for Elizabeth to let go. Ethan said that Elizabeth should do it for herself, her kids, and Lucky.
Elizabeth took another tack when she noticed the portrait of Laura. She thought that it belonged to Lucky and accused Lucky of hanging on to the past. Ethan said he had found the portrait at Wyndemere and was returning it there. Elizabeth scoffed and then said that Ethan was trying to be like Luke. She said that returning to Wyndemere proved Ethan's desire to confront Helena and gain continuity with Luke.
Ethan responded that the relationship between Luke and Laura was a lot like the relationship between Elizabeth and Lucky. Ethan said that Laura had tried to force Luke into a mold that he did not fit, and Elizabeth was attempting to do the same thing to Lucky. When Elizabeth reiterated that Lucky loved her, Ethan responded that Lucky loved Elizabeth like he loved pills. Ethan said that loving Elizabeth was a trap for Lucky, and renewing a relationship between them was setting Lucky up to fail.
Elizabeth did not accept that she and Lucky had no chance of happiness and retorted that Lucky had cheated first. Ethan acknowledged that it had happened when Lucky was strung out on pills. He turned the tables on Elizabeth when he said, "What's your excuse?" He went on to point out that she had had three children by three different fathers.
Elizabeth wanted to know if Ethan was calling her a whore. He said no, but Elizabeth said he did not have to because both Siobhan and Lucky had. Ethan encouraged Elizabeth to let Lucky go before the sickness of their relationship poisoned her life. Elizabeth responded by telling Ethan that she got it and that perhaps it was time to start living down to expectations. She ripped up the picture of Cam and Aiden in the pumpkin patch and then stormed out of the apartment.
Later at GH, Matt walked over to Elizabeth and said, "Yes," when she wondered if they were still on for that evening.
10/18 On the chartered boat, Matt, Elizabeth, Patrick, Robin, Steven, and Olivia gathered on the deck to watch the boat pull away from the harbor. Afterwards, everyone headed to the salon. Matt pulled Elizabeth aside to reveal that he felt bad for accusing Maxie of being self-centered when he was guilty of it himself. Elizabeth was curious what Matt had done, so he reminded her that he had pushed her to be his date for the evening. Elizabeth assured Matt that she had felt honored to be a part of the gathering to celebrate Matt's success.
Moments later, Matt and Elizabeth joined the rest of the party. Everyone clapped as they cheered for Matt. Captain MacLeod introduced himself, and his first mate, Briggs. Briggs served the champagne, so Patrick took the opportunity to toast Matt's success for the biggest cancer research breakthrough. Patrick insisted that cancer patients around the world would benefit from Matt's work. After everyone raised a glass to Matt, Robin handed Matt a wrapped present.
Olivia, Matt, and Elizabeth stepped out on deck and joined Patrick, Steve, and Robin. Olivia confessed that she had smuggled something on board, just as Briggs appeared with Steve's guitar. Everyone encouraged Steve to play something, but Steve was reluctant, so Elizabeth decided to share a story about Steve that their father had loved to tell. Elizabeth revealed that one day after church, Steve had decided to debut his favorite song, which he had played over and over for the family.
Matt teased Steve by suggesting that it had been something by Air Supply. Everyone else took turns guessing. Steve blushed with embarrassment when Elizabeth admitted that it had been Dolly Parton's "Nine to Five." Everyone burst out laughing, and then requested that Steve play something. Eventually, Steve took the guitar, and then sang a song as Lisa lurked around the corner.
10/19 On the deck of the boat, Lisa lurked out of sight, as she eavesdropped on Robin and Elizabeth talking about Steve. Elizabeth confessed that she liked Olivia, because Olivia seemed to help Steve get past what had happened in Memphis. Robin was curious what exactly had happened, so Elizabeth admitted that she didn't know the details.
However, Elizabeth confided that it had involved a woman, and a ring. Elizabeth explained that Steve didn't discuss it, but she knew that her brother had been troubled by it, because she had heard hints of it in his music, and he had thrown himself into his work.
Robin and Elizabeth then talked about Robin's new position at the hospital. Elizabeth thought that Robin had done a wonderful job as chief of staff, but she advised her friend not to get lost in it. Moments later, Patrick returned to his wife's side, so Elizabeth excused herself.
In the salon, Elizabeth and Matt talked about sibling rivalry. Elizabeth regretted that she had lost years with her sister Sarah, because of it. Matt revealed that Patrick had been quick to criticize him. Their conversation then drifted to the topic of Matt's research. Matt confessed that he felt comfortable talking to Elizabeth about it. He wished that Maxie was as interested in his work, but Elizabeth didn't want to go there.
Matt assured Elizabeth that Maxie was a wonderful person; however, Maxie didn't want to make their relationship a priority, because Maxie had lost too many loved ones. Elizabeth pointed out that they all had. Matt appreciated that, but he reminded Elizabeth that Maxie had lost both of her parents, her sister, and a cousin, whose heart beat inside of Maxie's chest. Elizabeth suggested that Maxie managed to maintain a close relationship with Spinelli, whom Maxie had kept wrapped around her finger without any commitments.
Elizabeth didn't understand why people kept running from commitments. She stood up, wandered to the bar, and then began to scribble on a napkin as she mumbled that it was unfair to get someone's expectations up, and then change their mind, especially when there were kids involved. Matt realized that they were no longer talking about Spinelli.
Elizabeth revealed that Lucky had left town, and that she had no idea where he had gone. However, she knew that Lucky had felt the need to get away from her before he relapsed into their "mutual addiction of a relationship." Elizabeth explained that those had been Lucky's words, not hers. "That's harsh," Matt admitted. Elizabeth confessed that she had been in love with Lucky since she had been fifteen.
She couldn't understand why some people didn't have any trouble trampling over others to get what they wanted, yet they were admired, because they were considered strong. Elizabeth questioned if it were truly strength, or selfishness. Matt suggested that they were the same thing. Matt glanced down at the napkin that she had been doodling on, so he asked her what she had been drawing.
Elizabeth snatched it away before he could see it, and then explained that it was something that she did when she was upset.
Elizabeth then confided that she had once had dreams of becoming an artist. Matt didn't think that she should have given it up completely simply because she had chosen another career.
Elizabeth smiled, and then turned the conversation back to Matt. Matt confessed that he had the urge to run, because he was afraid of success. Matt worried that he might end up feeling emptier than he already felt. Elizabeth knew what that was like. However, she insisted that Matt deserved to find someone who respected him, and made him happy. Elizabeth was surprised when she realized that Matt had moved very close to her. He reached up to gently caress her cheek, and then slowly leaned his forehead against hers.
10/20 In the salon, Matt kissed Elizabeth, but she pulled away after several heartbeats. Elizabeth insisted that they couldn't continue. "Why not?" Matt wondered. Elizabeth explained that he had been kissing her for all the wrong reasons. Matt thought that attraction and seizing the moment were perfect reasons to kiss her. Elizabeth warned him that once the alcohol wore off, the only thing that he'd be seizing was a bottle of aspirin.
Matt resented that Elizabeth made it sound as if he had a medical condition, instead of a chemical reaction. Elizabeth confessed that she would hate to see Maxie's reaction when she found out about their kiss, but Matt insisted that she not go there. Elizabeth agreed and then suggested that they discuss how Elizabeth wouldn't respect herself if she had allowed the kiss to continue. Matt accused her of putting the brakes on their kiss because of Lucky.
Matt immediately apologized, because the remark had been out of line. Matt assured Elizabeth that what they had shared had just been a moment. Elizabeth was curious if Matt would have stopped if she hadn't. Matt joked that he was lucky that things had gone as far as they had, given all of the champagne that he'd consumed. Matt was relieved when Elizabeth smiled, because he had feared that his night might have ended as a complete bust.
Elizabeth realized that his celebration had not gone as he had anticipated, but she didn't want what had happened between them to take away from his accomplishment. Matt assured her that her rejection had been good for him, because it had kept him from getting a big head. He confided that Patrick had warned him that he still had a lot to prove. Elizabeth was frustrated. She wondered why Matt continued to let Patrick get to him.
Elizabeth urged Matt to step out of Patrick's shadow long enough to appreciate all that Matt had achieved. Matt argued that it was a big shadow, because Patrick had a good life, a wonderful wife, an adorable child, and a great career. Elizabeth reminded Matt that there had been a speed bump in Patrick's life, named Lisa. Matt insisted that Patrick was not the first man to cheat on his wife. He then reminded Elizabeth of Noah Drake's affair that had resulted in Matt's conception.
Matt admitted that as hard as he had been on his brother for cheating on Robin, he couldn't blame Patrick for Lisa turning into a "psycho." Elizabeth agreed, but she insisted that Patrick shouldn't have slept with Lisa. Matt suggested that it had been difficult for Patrick to resist Lisa, because Lisa had pursued Patrick with "all guns blazing." Matt insisted that was the reason why men were considered to be the weaker sex. Elizabeth was curious if Matt had kissed her earlier because he was the weaker sex.
Matt pointed out that he hadn't put a ring on her finger or even asked her to the prom. According to Matt, it had merely been a kiss. Matt insisted that it wouldn't have been a big deal if things had gone further than the kiss.
"Oh, geez, thanks," Elizabeth replied. Matt explained that people kissed, and sometimes they had sex, but Elizabeth argued that she was a mother. Matt explained that even mothers had sex. Elizabeth didn't think that Matt was getting it, but Matt insisted that she was the one who wasn't getting it.
Matt urged Elizabeth to be happy, and to go after what she wanted. Matt warned her that she'd never be happy if she continued to hold on to Lucky and turn to men every time she needed to be saved. Elizabeth was furious. She informed Matt that he had crossed the line. She congratulated him, because he would finally be officially alone at his own party. After Elizabeth stormed out, Matt realized that he had chased away the one person who had truly appreciated him.
On deck, Elizabeth stared out at the water. She was stunned when she turned and saw Lisa closing in on her.
10/21 On the yacht, Lisa attacked Elizabeth with chloroform and dumped Liz's body overboard. An unseen person discovered an unconscious Elizabeth and took her to shore.
10/25 Elizabeth remained unconscious on the beach as a light shone over her. Elizabeth opened her eyes momentarily, and then drifted back into unconsciousness. A short time later, Spinelli spotted Elizabeth on the beach, so he went to her rescue.
10/26 On the beach at Spoon Island, Spinelli grew concerned when Elizabeth didn't respond to his pleas for her to wake up. He noticed that she was unusually pale, so he decided to get her some help. Spinelli stood up, and then froze when he noticed an eerie light emanating from the nearby foliage.
Moments later, Elizabeth began to cough, so Spinelli turned back to help Elizabeth sit up. The light immediately disappeared. Elizabeth recalled that a man had carried her to shore, but she realized that it hadn't been Spinelli. Spinelli quickly helped Elizabeth to the dinghy. As they walked away, a bright light suddenly flared, and then quickly faded.
10/27 At the hospital, Spinelli practically carried Elizabeth into the emergency room. Monica was on hand to help Elizabeth onto a gurney, and then ordered the nurses to take Elizabeth to a nearby examination bay. Spinelli explained that Elizabeth had washed up on Spoon Island, and that it had appeared that she had been in the water for an extended time.
Monica suspected that Elizabeth had hypothermia, so she went to the examination bay to check on Elizabeth. Elizabeth explained that Lisa Niles had thrown her overboard. Monica suggested that Elizabeth was delirious, but Spinelli panicked because Maxie was on the chartered boat.
Later, Elizabeth was shivering, while Epiphany watched over her. Monica entered the examination bay to ask for an update, so Epiphany explained that Elizabeth's body temperature was rising. Elizabeth wondered what time it was, so Epiphany explained that it was a little past ten.
Elizabeth was concerned, because her boys were in the hospital's daycare center. Monica suggested that they were used to that, because she had recalled seeing them there often. Epiphany glared at Monica, but Monica ignored Epiphany.
Elizabeth was upset, because her boys should be in their own beds. Epiphany promised to make sure that someone stayed with the boys, so Elizabeth asked Epiphany to assure Cam that Mommy was fine. Elizabeth revealed that Cam worried easily since Jake had died. "I imagine he does," Monica said sarcastically. Epiphany gave Monica a venomous glance, but remained silent, because Elizabeth hadn't picked up on Monica's hostility. Elizabeth was concerned about her brother, Steve, and the other passengers on the boat, who might not realize that Lisa Niles was on board.
In the examination bay, Elizabeth smiled when she saw her brother. Steve admitted that he was happy that Spinelli had found her. Elizabeth recalled being fished out of the water, but she realized that Spinelli hadn't been the man who had carried her to shore.
10/28 Lucky checked into an inn in Galway. The innkeeper told him to make himself at home while she prepared something to eat. Lucky reread the letter Siobhan had left him. The innkeeper returned with a meal, but became unnerved when Lucky asked her where St. Margaret's Chapel was.
The woman began to give him details but stopped herself. She warned him to keep away. Lucky told her that he needed to honor Siobhan's last wishes. The innkeeper let Lucky know that the rectory had burned down several times. The church was a place of bad luck, she stated.
11/1 At the hospital, Elizabeth was groggy as Matt explained that Lisa had chloroformed her and then had tossed Elizabeth overboard. Matt then revealed that Spinelli had saved Elizabeth, but Elizabeth tried to explain that it had been someone else. Matt didn't seem to understand her as she slowly drifted off to sleep.
Meanwhile, a clown lurked outside of Elizabeth's room as Matt promised to stay with Elizabeth, and then assured his sleeping patient that "the crazy bitch is gone." The clown left when Matt insisted that Lisa had gotten exactly what Lisa had deserved.
Matt then quietly began to talk about Maxie. Matt confessed that he had sent the one person away that he had hoped to share his special night with. He acknowledged that Maxie was infuriating, but he also admitted that Maxie was "glorious." However, Matt had no idea what he would have done if he hadn't had Elizabeth to confide to during the previous few months.
Matt started to leave, but stopped in the doorway when the alarms on Elizabeth's monitors went off. Matt called for help, and then quickly stabilized Elizabeth by inserting a breathing tube. Matt instructed a nurse to check on Elizabeth every fifteen minutes, until Elizabeth was out of the woods.
In Ireland, Mrs. MacInerny knocked on Lucky's door. She realized that Lucky still intended to go to St. Margaret's Chapel, despite her warnings. Lucky admitted that Mrs. MacInerny had never said anything specific to persuade him not to follow his wife's wishes, so Mrs. MacInerny explained that there were some things that couldn't be spoken of. Lucky revealed that he was just trying to understand what was going on, because he had made a trip to Ireland.
Lucky showed her the handkerchief, and the rosary that Siobhan had given to him. Mrs. MacInerny thought that Siobhan should have known better than to send Lucky on such a dangerous quest.
Lucky showed Mrs. MacInerny the rowan crucifix, and then admitted that he had noticed that Mrs. MacInerny had one too. He was curious what it was for. Mrs. MacInerny insisted that she had given him her best advice, so that was all that she could do.
She advised him to get a good night's rest, and then promised to prepare him a hearty breakfast before his trip home. Lucky refused to leave without honouring Siobhan's wishes. "Then more's the pity, and may God have mercy on your soul," Mrs. MacInerny replied. Lucky decided to read the passage of Siobhan's letter regarding the instructions for the rowan crucifix to Mrs. MacInerny.
He was curious what Siobhan had meant when she had told him that the crucifix was for getting him under the eyes of the wee folks without waking the watchers. Lucky wondered who the watchers were. "What they sound like, guardians," Mrs. MacInerny answered. Lucky was curious what the guardians watched, so she explained that they guarded secrets and knowledge.
Lucky thought that it sounded like a bunch of superstitions, so Mrs. MacInerny hoped that the watchers would leave Lucky alone; however, she suspected that his skepticism would provoke them to prove a point. Lucky was curious what Siobhan had meant about dipping the rosary in the well, so Mrs. MacInerny explained that Siobhan had not been referring to a traditional well.
According to Mrs. MacInerny, the well was a hole in the wall left by a bolt of lightning. She warned Lucky that he might not want to hear from those who had passed, so she advised him to focus on his loved ones who were in the present. Lucky insisted that he wasn't afraid of Siobhan's spirit, because she clearly wanted to tell him something.
Mrs. MacInerny suggested that there might be more consequences than he had bargained for, and then left. "Maybe she's right," Lucky conceded. Moments later, a lone wolf howled. Lucky gathered his things, and then left. Later, he arrived at the gates of St. Margaret's Chapel. He started to open the gates, but a noise behind him caught his attention.
11/2 In Ireland, Lucky stood at the gates of St. Margaret's Chapel when a noise suddenly caught his attention. Lucky looked over his shoulder but didn't see anything, so he opened the gates. Moments later, Lucky found the hole in the wall that had been made by a lightning bolt. A lone wolf howled as Lucky pulled out the rosary that Siobhan had given to him.
Lucky then re-read the letter that Siobhan had written to him, urging Lucky to wait for the signs. Lucky folded the letter, tucked it into his pocket, and then sat down to wait. Lucky fell asleep. A short time later, he was startled awake by a noise. Lucky looked around, and then stood up. He was shocked when he glanced down to see stones that spelled out the word "GO" near his feet.
11/7 Matt was with Elizabeth when she regained consciousness. She said that her lungs hurt. Matt said that was to be expected and that her prognosis was good. Elizabeth was fixated on finding the person who had saved her life. Matt said the thanks should go to Spinelli. Matt was convinced that Elizabeth had only imagined the rescuer, who she said had plucked her out of the ocean, carried her to the beach, and then run away.
Matt cited all kinds of scientific and psychological explanations for what Elizabeth thought she had seen and remained convinced that Elizabeth's hero was a figment of her imagination. Elizabeth was not swayed. Though Elizabeth's grandmother and brother were taking care of Cam and Aiden, Matt encouraged Elizabeth to get in touch with Lucky so he could help with the childcare.
Elizabeth did not want to contact Lucky in Ireland while he was engaged in his quest for Siobhan. Elizabeth said that she would not call Lucky home and validate Siobhan's last words to Elizabeth, that Elizabeth was a black hole of emotional need who would suck out Lucky's soul.
Maxie arrived looking for Matt. She went ballistic and accused Elizabeth of going after Matt. Maxie called Elizabeth "a manipulative slut" and blamed her for all the problems on the boat. Maxie was angry because Matt had not shown up for her birthday dinner and did not accept his explanation that he had been saving Elizabeth's life. Maxie sounded selfish and shallow.
She accused Matt of buying a gift for Elizabeth, but not for her. In a fit of pique, Matt gave the gift he had purchased for Maxie to Elizabeth. Maxie stormed out. Matt apologized for Maxie and said that Maxie spoke without thinking and sometimes sounded self-absorbed. Elizabeth said she understood and asked if Matt was trying to make Maxie jealous.
Matt said he had tried that once as a youngster and learned a very painful lesson when he had lost the girl he really liked after dating another to make her jealous. As Matt was about to leave, Elizabeth started coughing. When Matt examined her, he noticed that Elizabeth's temperature was increasing.
In Ireland, Lucky stood in the church courtyard with the innkeeper, Mrs. MacInerny, who was obviously frightened. Lucky was skeptical when she told him that elves lived in the courtyard. She asked if he believed in God. Lucky said he did. Mrs. MacInerny said that it was the same thing.
Lucky told her that Siobhan had had a premonition about her death and that Lucky wanted to fulfill her last request of him.
Lucky showed Mrs. MacInerny the message, "go" that had been spelled out in stones and wanted to know if she had left it. When she said she had not, Lucky said that he could not understand why Siobhan would have him show up in Ireland and then tell him to go home.
Mrs. MacInerny could not wait to get out of the courtyard and advised Lucky to do the same. Lucky did not heed her advice. Instead he sat down by the well and fell asleep. When he awoke, the stones spelled out, "Go home."
11/10 In Ireland, Lucky told Mrs. MacInerny about the messages that he had seen in the churchyard. She assured him that she hadn't been responsible for them, but Lucky wondered who else it could have been. Mrs. MacInerny pointed out that Lucky was grief-stricken, and hadn't slept well, so perhaps he had subconsciously left the messages. Lucky insisted that it didn't make sense, because he had traveled all the way to Ireland to follow his wife's wishes.
The innkeeper suggested that perhaps Lucky had been driven by guilt, and a need for absolution. According to the Mrs. MacInerny, only God and Lucky could provide that. Mrs. MacInerny suspected that Lucky didn't have a lot of faith, so Lucky changed the subject by asking if the innkeeper had ever used the well. She revealed that her husband had fallen ill after they had opened the inn, so he had died at a very young age.
According to Mrs. MacInerny, her husband had promised to return one last time to tell her that he loved her, so she had gone to the well in the hopes of receiving a message from him. She admitted that twenty-three years later, she was still waiting to hear from him. Lucky felt bad for the innkeeper, but he doubted that Siobhan would send him to Ireland just to urge him to return home.
Mrs. MacInerny suggested that perhaps Lucky shouldn't question the messages too much, because God worked in mysterious ways. Lucky confided that losing his wife had shaken his faith, so Mrs. MacInerny advised Lucky to put aside his arrogance, and disbelief, to trust in his heart.
Lucky wondered what to do if his heart told him that the well was merely a well, nothing more. Mrs. MacInerny assured Lucky that someone was trying to tell Lucky something, so she insisted that he start listening. She suggested that he return to the churchyard, because it was the last night of a full moon. Mrs. MacInerny explained that, if Lucky were willing to listen, there was more to be heard.
After Mrs. MacInerny left the room, Lucky fetched his jacket and then left. A short time later, he returned to the churchyard at St. Margaret's Chapel. He placed the rosary in the well, and then sat down to wait for a message. Lucky fell asleep, and then dreamed of holding Aiden, as he assured his young son that everything would be okay.
The front door to Elizabeth's home suddenly blew open, as Jake called out, "Daddy." Lucky was startled awake, and then glanced at the ground to see a message written in stone that read, "Go home, Daddy" "Jake?" Lucky cried out.
In Elizabeth's hospital room, Elizabeth woke up as Matt jotted down some notes on the chart. Matt was relieved that Elizabeth had slept well. Elizabeth assured him that she felt better, so she was curious when she could go home to her boys. Matt explained that he couldn't discharge her until her fever had gone down and she was out of danger from developing an infection.
Matt then sat down and revealed that he had some good news to share. "The crazy bitch is dead," Matt said. Matt explained that Lisa's body had been found. Elizabeth was a bit confused, because she recalled that Matt had mentioned earlier that Lisa was dead. Matt suggested that it might have been wishful thinking if he had said that. Elizabeth thought that it was likely that she had just imagined it.
She admitted that it had been difficult to tell what had been real from what hadn't been real since she had been fished out of the water. Matt chuckled as he reminded her of her claims that she had been rescued by a man who had "zero percent body fat," Elizabeth smiled, and then decided to thank the hero in front of her, who had saved her life twice.
Matt quickly downplayed his role in saving her life, so Elizabeth reminded him that she needed to get home to take care of her sons. Matt assured her that they were in good hands, so he advised her to focus on resting.
In Elizabeth's hospital room, Elizabeth admitted to Lulu that she was eager to go home, because she wanted to see her sons, especially since Lucky was away. Lulu confessed that she'd had no idea that Lucky had gone to Ireland until Ethan had mentioned it. Elizabeth suggested that Lucky was chasing down Siobhan's memory, so Lulu advised Elizabeth to give Lucky some time.
"For what?" Elizabeth asked. Lulu reminded Elizabeth that Lucky and Elizabeth had always loved each other, so love conquered all. Elizabeth chuckled, as she admitted that she and Lucky had conquered a lot; however, she sometimes thought that they looked for ways to screw things up, because they were afraid of being happy. Lulu wondered if that might be what Lulu was doing with Dante. Lulu explained that she wanted forever with Dante, but it might not be possible, because of Dante's career.
Elizabeth pointed out that at least Dante was on the right side of the law. Lulu argued that Lucky and Elizabeth had been a perfect couple, but they hadn't been able to make it work, so Lulu wondered if she and Dante would last.
Elizabeth quickly reminded Lulu that she and Lucky had not been perfect together, so she warned Lulu not to use their relationship as some kind of role model.
Elizabeth explained that she and Lucky hadn't been able to find balance between their idealistic dreams, and their realistic expectations, so it had been best for them not to be together. Lulu didn't think that Elizabeth sounded convincing. Elizabeth insisted that it didn't matter, because Lucky had made up his mind.
At the Webber house, Olivia is helping with the children. Olivia noticed that Aiden had a bruise, so Cam explained that Aiden got them all the time. Olivia assured Cam that it was normal for boys and talked about Dante as a boy.
11/11 Matt insisted that Elizabeth stay in bed, despite her resolve to leave the hospital. In a fevered state, she began to hallucinate. She was convinced that Matt had rescued her the night Lisa had thrown her overboard, but Matt explained that he'd been on the boat that night. Liz started to hear Jake calling to her. Monica sedated Liz and asked Epiphany to call Steve. Jason visited Elizabeth, who begged him to help her save their son from trouble.
Lucky returned to the inn after visiting the churchyard.
The innkeeper prompted Lucky to dig deeper for answers, but Lucky began to doubt his experiences. She asked Lucky about his son. Lucky explained that Jake was not Siobhan's child, but his ex-wife's.
The innkeeper wondered whether Lucky had seen Jake that night. Lucky recounted the dream he'd had while asleep at the churchyard. When Lucky had awakened, the word "daddy" had been spelled out in stones. The innkeeper urged Lucky to stay in the village to try to learn what the spirits were attempting to communicate.
11/14 Elizabeth was delirious as she held on to Jason and begged him to take her home to Jake, who needed her. Matt looked on as Elizabeth told Jason that he was the only one who could help her. Matt asked Jason to leave, but Monica appeared and said to let Jason stay. Jason soothed Elizabeth as Monica and Matt worked to reduce her fever. Matt and Monica stabilized Elizabeth, who returned to normal and remembered her delirium as a dream. She thanked Jason, who left after telling Elizabeth to get some rest.
In Ireland, Lucky slept, and Siobhan sat on his bed and talked to him. She told him that he was stubborn and still did not believe in the power of love. Siobhan told him she would have to teach him about that. She said that for the moment, he needed to listen because Jake, who did not know the ins and outs like she did, had more to say to him. Siobhan begged Lucky not to be so resistant. She said that if it was the last time Siobhan got to see Lucky, she intended to have the last word.
Siobhan put on her hat, moved to the window, and disappeared at the same time as a loud noise, like a door slamming, was heard. Lucky was startled awake. He shut the window and noticed Siobhan's tam on the floor. Mrs. MacInerny, the innkeeper, was also awakened. She offered tea and understanding, and encouraged Lucky when he said he had to go back to the churchyard.
Once there, Lucky called for Jake to tell him what he needed to know. Lucky begged Jake's forgiveness for not being there, for not protecting him, and for not saving Jake from the car. Lucky fell asleep near the wall. When he awoke a new message appeared on the ground. The stones spelled out, "Go home daddy, Aiden."
11/15 In Elizabeth's hospital room, Steve watched his sister as Elizabeth rested. Ethan entered the room, with a bouquet of flowers in his arms. Ethan was curious how Elizabeth was doing, so Steve admitted that Elizabeth was remarkably well, given the circumstances. Ethan wondered why Lisa had targeted Elizabeth. Steve explained that Elizabeth had simply gotten in the way. Ethan was curious if Steve had seen Lisa before Lisa had died.
"Before she was murdered," Matt clarified as Matt entered Elizabeth's hospital room. Matt revealed that Elizabeth hadn't been the only person to end up in the water on that fateful night; Lisa had been killed by blunt force trauma to the head, and then had been dumped into the water. Ethan questioned how Elizabeth had managed to swim to shore, if Lisa had chloroformed Elizabeth before pushing Elizabeth into the water.
Matt told Ethan about Elizabeth's "savior." Ethan noticed that Matt seemed skeptical about the story, so Matt explained that a traumatized mind could manifest a happy event to replace a near-death experience. Ethan imagined that everyone was relieved that Lisa no longer posed a threat to anyone; however, he was curious if there were any suspects in the case. Matt revealed that the passengers on the boat were under suspicion, except Elizabeth.
Elizabeth stirred in bed, so Matt went to check on her. Matt was happy that Elizabeth appeared to be doing better, but Steve warned Ethan not to tire Elizabeth out with a long visit. After Matt and Steve left, Ethan wondered if he could get Elizabeth anything. Elizabeth was concerned about her sons, so Ethan assured her that the boys were with relatives.
"But not their dad," Elizabeth noted. Ethan reminded Elizabeth that Lucky was trying to honor Lucky's dead wife's last request, as any man would. Elizabeth was amazed that Siobhan had managed to manipulate Lucky from the grave, but Ethan didn't think that Elizabeth should worry about that. He pointed out that she should be happy that Cam and Aiden were fine.
Elizabeth smiled, and then relaxed as Ethan suggested that she focus on her recovery. He suspected that Elizabeth didn't realize how close she had been to "checking out."
"I do, I do. I know I would be dead if it weren't for him," Elizabeth replied. Ethan was curious about the mysterious stranger who had rescued Elizabeth, so Elizabeth assured Ethan that she hadn't imagined the man.
Ethan promised that he wasn't as quick to discount what she had said as others had been. Ethan realized that mystery abounded on Spoon Island, because he had been spending time there. Elizabeth wondered why Ethan had been hanging out at Wyndemere, so Ethan reminded her of the Spencer/Cassadine history. The conversation then drifted to the topic of Laura.
Elizabeth confessed that she had always respected Laura, and that she had loved Laura with all of her heart. Elizabeth admitted that it had been difficult to see Laura completely unresponsive for years, while rocking in a chair. Ethan wondered if Laura had been different after she had woken up from the catatonic state.
Elizabeth confided that Laura hadn't been radiant, as she had once been, and that it had seemed like Laura had been to places, and seen things, that no one else could understand. Elizabeth revealed that she had never mentioned it to others, but she had sensed that there were times that Laura wouldn't have minded "being back there.”
Ethan pointed out that ultimately, that was what had happened. Elizabeth chuckled as she pointed out that Laura was happy, and well, living in Paris. Ethan explained that he had been told that the balance of Laura's mind was delicate.
"Always," Elizabeth conceded. She revealed that it was the reason that Laura's family was so protective of Laura.
Ethan hoped to meet Laura one day, so Elizabeth advised him to fly to Paris. However, Elizabeth warned Ethan to stay away from Wyndemere, because it was not a healthy place to be around. Elizabeth reminded him that her best friend, Emily, had been killed at Wyndemere, and that Elizabeth had cheated on Lucky with Nikolas in the castle. According to Elizabeth, some places were magnets to darkness and loss.
In Ireland, Lucky sat in the churchyard reading the message, "Go home Daddy. Aiden." Lucky wondered what Jake was trying to tell him, but he didn't receive an answer. Frustrated, Lucky yelled that he didn't know what "they" wanted from him. Lucky insisted that he needed more information than he had been given. Lucky sensed a presence behind him, so he turned. He was startled when he saw the red knit cap on the fence of the churchyard.
Angry, Lucky kicked at the stones until the message disappeared.
Moments later, Lucky woke up from his dream. He spotted the red knit cap on the wall, where the well was, and then looked down on the ground. The message read, "Go home Daddy. Aiden sick. Hurry." Rattled, Lucky called Elizabeth's house, but the answering machine picked up. Lucky started to leave a frantic message, but Luke heard his son on the answering machine, so Luke answered the call.
Luke demanded to know what was wrong? Lucky urgently explained that he didn't have time to get into it. Lucky wondered where Elizabeth was, so Luke explained that she was in the hospital with pneumonia. Lucky revealed that he needed Luke to do something, without asking any questions.
"Okay, what is it?" Luke replied. Lucky instructed Luke to take Aiden to the hospital. Luke assured Lucky that nothing was wrong with Aiden, except that Aiden had a bruise on his arm, but Lucky insisted that Luke get medical attention for Aiden. Lucky then asked if Luke had been drinking. Luke reminded Lucky that he had quit drinking, so Lucky revealed that there was an extra car seat in the house, and then urged Luke to get to the hospital quickly, but not to speed, or drive recklessly.
After Lucky ended the call, he returned to the inn to pack his belongings. Mrs. MacInerny heard the commotion in Lucky's room, so she stopped by to see what was going on. Lucky explained that he had received a message, and that he needed to return home, so that he didn't lose another son.
After Lucky left, Mrs. MacInerny went to the churchyard to talk to her husband, Jamie. She realized that she shouldn't question, or need validation, that they still belonged to each other, because she knew it in her heart. Her eyes filled with tears as she noticed that Lucky had left some of Siobhan's things in the well, so she gathered them up with the intention of sending them to Lucky.
The wind picked up as Mrs. MacInerny admitted that she had been alone too long. She sensed something behind her, so she turned to see a message written on the ground. She welled up with tears as she read "Still yours," written in stone. "Here and beyond," she replied to her beloved Jamie.
On the plane, Lucky noticed a bruise on his arm. He turned to see a cart filled with alcohol, while he waited for the plane to take off.
Meanwhile back in PC, Luke put the car seat in the back of his car, and then strapped Aiden in. Aiden had a bruise on the same arm, and in the same place, as Lucky had. It amazed Luke how much Aiden looked like Lucky. He then admitted to his grandson that kids and cars were not his favorite combination. Moments later, Luke got behind the wheel of the car, and then drove away.
11/16 In Luke's car, Luke tried to reassure Aiden as he drove his crying grandson to the hospital. Luke was startled when Luke's conscience suddenly appeared in the backseat of the car, and then questioned if Luke were doing the right thing by driving with Aiden. He warns that for Luke, cars and kids are a bad combination. Luke warned his conscience that he didn't have time for soul-searching, so he instructed his conscience to "beat it." Luke's conscience ignored Luke, as he asked what Lucky had been thinking to ask Luke to take Aiden to the hospital.
Luke's conscience reminded Luke of the bottle of scotch that Luke had cracked open at the Haunted Star earlier that evening. Luke's conscience admitted that he had looked away, so he was curious if Luke had taken a drink. Luke ignored the question, so Luke's conscience noted that Luke had passed the spot where Jake had been killed. Luke's conscience reminded Luke that it wasn't too late to turn around, but Luke kept on driving.
At Elizabeth's house, Lulu was frantic when she realized that Luke and Aiden were not there. She called Ethan, but reached his voicemail. Lulu explained that she had left Luke alone with Aiden for a short time, but they had been gone when she had returned to Elizabeth's house. Lulu asked Ethan to call her if he saw Luke, so that she could fetch Aiden.
Lulu called Lucky, but reached his voicemail, so she ended the call without leaving a message. Lulu and Tracy listened to Lucky's message, and then decided to check to see if the extra car seat was in the house. Lulu felt terrible, because she hadn't stayed with Aiden, but Tracy realized that Luke might have taken Aiden to the hospital.
Lulu and Tracy rushed to the hospital, but the nurse revealed that there wasn't a record of Aiden Spencer being admitted. Lulu and Tracy turned to leave, but stopped short when they spotted a somber faced Luke. They demanded to know what Luke had done to Aiden, and where Aiden was.
On the plane, Lucky was anxious to get home. He chastised himself for giving in to his fears, but he realized that he couldn't second-guess himself. Lucky admitted that he had nothing else to believe in, not even himself. Despite his fears, Lucky fell asleep. Moments later, he dreamed of Siobhan. Lucky glanced at his sleeping form in the window seat, so he realized that he was asleep on the plane.
Siobhan and Lucky sat down in nearby seats as Lucky explained that he had wanted to thank Siobhan for warning him about Aiden. Lucky then asked Siobhan why she had written the letter. Siobhan revealed that the McKennas had "a thing with death," so she'd had a feeling that her time had been at an end. Lucky admitted that he had expected her to send him a message, because her letter had indicated that he would get one last message from someone he had loved.
Siobhan chuckled as she pointed out that he had merely assumed that she had meant herself. Lucky questioned if it were real, or just in his head. Siobhan smiled indulgently as she explained that the head, heart, and soul were all connected. She pointed out that he wouldn't have been having the dream, if he didn't believe that a higher power were at work. Siobhan admitted that he had been fighting himself so hard, that she had to reach out to him. Lucky questioned God's will, but Siobhan insisted that she had died for a reason.
Lucky didn't know what it was, but Siobhan argued that he did, in his heart; however, she couldn't give him all of the answers.
Lucky and Siobhan then talked about Jake, and Jake's gift of life. Lucky felt as if it were a "full-circle" moment. He had no idea if Aiden were even sick, so he questioned why he had risked Aiden's life by putting his son in a car with Luke. Lucky explained that Luke had set a new standard for self-destructive behavior.
Siobhan admitted that it sounded familiar, so Lucky conceded that he might be more like his father than he cared to admit.
Lucky revealed that a part of him was tempted to finish what he had started by burning down the Spencer family home, popping pills, and ripping Elizabeth's heart out. Siobhan quietly told Lucky that Elizabeth was still in love with Lucky.
Lucky wondered what better way to prove that he was a true Spencer, and his father's son, than to set one more tragedy into motion, by asking Luke to drive Aiden to the hospital. Lucky was curious if Siobhan knew how things would turn out.
"Hardly," she replied. Siobhan studied the red knit cap in her hands, and then commented that it appeared as if it had been put through the mill, like his faith. Lucky revealed that he doubted that he had any left.
Siobhan reminded Lucky that he'd once had faith. Lucky agreed, but he had lost it over the years. Siobhan explained that faith never went away; it was tested. Lucky was curious if he were being tested by being pushed to see how much he could lose. Siobhan insisted that, whether prayers were answered or not, or people betrayed others, people needed to pray, and then pass it along. According to Siobhan, each new leap of faith made a person fuller.
Siobhan warned Lucky that his heart was shrinking to nothing, but Lucky argued that it didn't make any sense to him. Siobhan wondered who had told him that it had to make sense. Lucky worried that he had wrongly put his trust in Luke to keep Aiden safe, so Siobhan suggested that it was a sign that Lucky still had faith. Lucky was curious what would happen if the warnings about Aiden were true.
Siobhan smiled, and then informed Lucky that he would have to stop making wisecracks about her ancestors. Lucky smiled, but then sobered as he confessed that he was tired of feeling the way that he did. Siobhan assured him that the answer was right in front of him, in his children's faces. Lucky insisted that he would miss Siobhan. Siobhan was glad; it was part of the reason that she had contacted him.
She warned him that she couldn't hold his hand, because the rest of the story was his to tell. Lucky had no idea what that meant, but Siobhan assured him that he eventually would. Siobhan then revealed that she had to go back, but she asked Lucky not to forget her. Moments later, Lucky woke up.
11/17 In Elizabeth's hospital room, Matt was relieved that Elizabeth was on the mend. Elizabeth smiled, and then wondered when she could go home to her sons. Matt warned Elizabeth that she would have to stay in the hospital a little longer, but he assured her that everyone was helping to take care of the boys. Elizabeth explained that she was eager to get home, because she felt bad that the boys didn't have Lucky around to take care of them while she was in the hospital.
Matt acknowledged that Elizabeth still loved Lucky, and that it had become clear, when her fever had spiked, that she and Jason shared a connection that no one could touch. "Least of all me," Matt added. Elizabeth explained that she would always be connected to Jason because of Jake, and that Lucky was Cam and Aiden's father. She conceded that Lucky and Jason had been a huge part of her life. However, Elizabeth thought that Matt was confused about his feelings for her.
She pointed out that he had only kissed her because he had been drunk, she had been "in a mood," and Maxie hadn't been on the boat. Matt argued that Elizabeth had been the only person who had truly understood what it had meant to him to have his paper published, whereas Maxie hadn't. Elizabeth realized that Maxie could be self-centered, but she was certain that Matt had genuine feelings for Maxie. Matt didn't disagree.
He assured Elizabeth that the one thing that he wasn't confused about was that he didn't want to lose Elizabeth as a friend. Elizabeth admitted that she felt the same way. Elizabeth tried to return the bracelet that Matt had bought for Maxie's birthday, but Matt insisted that Elizabeth keep it.
At the hospital, Lulu and Tracy questioned Luke about Aiden. Luke explained that Lucky had requested that Luke take Aiden to the hospital, but Lucky hadn't told him why. Luke admitted that he would have gotten to the hospital sooner, but he'd had car trouble. Tracy wondered what kind of car trouble, so Luke revealed that "some clown" had swerved into Luke's lane. Lulu questioned Luke's version of events, and then insisted that Luke shouldn't have been driving with Aiden. Tracy argued that it didn't matter, because the important thing was that Aiden was in the right place, if Aiden were sick.
Lulu insisted that Aiden had seemed fine when she had left the house, so she didn't understand why Lucky would think that Aiden had been sick. Luke admitted that he didn't have an answer to that, but he assured Lulu that Lucky was on his way home.
Lulu thought that the story was very "convenient" for Luke. Tracy was shocked by Lulu's remark. Luke couldn't believe that Lulu had suggested that he had made the whole thing up, and used an innocent child, just to play a hero. Lulu was unapologetic, so Luke advised Lulu to talk to Lucky when Lucky arrived.
Later, Maggie and Robin noticed that Aiden had developed more bruises. They discussed the possibility that he might have leukemia, but Maggie suspected that it was something else. Steve updated Luke, Tracy, and Lulu about Aiden's situation. Steve revealed that Aiden's bruises were out of the ordinary, so a specialist had been asked to examine Aiden.
Lulu decided that Elizabeth needed to know about Aiden, so she excused herself to go to Elizabeth's hospital room. After Steve left, Luke decided to leave, too, but Tracy stopped him. Tracy was curious if Luke wanted a drink, "or five." Luke just looked at Tracy, so she conceded that she knew that he was sober. She then questioned why Luke had been at Elizabeth's house.
Luke confessed that he hadn't known that Lulu would be there; he had gone to see his grandson, to see if there were any hope for the future of the Spencers. Tracy wondered if a part of Luke had been looking for hope for himself. Luke smiled, and then admitted that he had given up on that. Tracy reminded Luke that Aiden was Luke's flesh and blood. Luke was curious if that were the reason that she had pushed him so hard to see Aiden, or if she had been hoping to give Luke incentive to stay in town.
Tracy insisted that she had thought that Luke should know that he had a grandson. Luke suspected that Tracy had been hoping that Luke would have some sort of epiphany. "Stop it," Tracy ordered. She informed him that he was not beyond redemption, and then questioned why he had returned to Port Charles.
Luke complained that Tracy, and the children, had been putting all kinds of expectations on him. Tracy realized that Luke couldn't live up to his own legend, but Luke argued that it had died with Jake, "In spectacular fashion.” Tracy explained that she had loved Luke for a reason, and that she knew him in ways that he refused to know himself.
She suggested that if he wanted to fall into the bottle, leave her, and turn his back on his family then she would not stop him. However, she wanted him to remember that he had seen Aiden, because he cared about his grandson, not because anyone had pushed Luke to visit the child.
Moments later, Robin returned to the waiting area. Robin revealed that Aiden had been presenting with more bruising, and that they were running tests on the child. Robin revealed that Luke might have saved Aiden's life by rushing the little boy to the hospital.
In Elizabeth's hospital room, Lulu gently broke the news to Elizabeth that Aiden had been admitted to the hospital. Elizabeth initially thought that Lucky had been feeling guilty about not being with the boys, so he had raised a false alarm about Aiden. Lulu assured Elizabeth that something was wrong with Aiden, so Elizabeth decided to check on her son for herself.
Elizabeth started to get out of bed, but Lulu tried to stop her. Monica heard the commotion from the hallway, so she entered the hospital room to find out what was going on. Elizabeth explained the situation, and then pleaded with Monica, as a mother, to understand that Elizabeth needed to be with Aiden.
Monica coldly informed Elizabeth not to play the mother card with her. Elizabeth was stunned, and then realized that Monica still harbored anger over Jake's death. Monica didn't deny it, and then insisted that she would not allow Elizabeth to use the grief over losing Jake to "latch onto a married man."
"How dare you!" Elizabeth replied. Elizabeth assured Monica that Elizabeth would grieve the loss of Jake every day of her life, something that Elizabeth thought that Monica would understand.
Monica was unmoved as she suggested that it hadn't been the first time that Elizabeth had been a victim for Jason. Elizabeth reminded Monica that it had been the fever talking, but Monica argued that Jason was married to Sam. "Don't get in the way," Monica warned Elizabeth.
Later, Elizabeth slowly made her way to the examination bay, where Aiden rested in a crib. Lulu helped Elizabeth, who was still hooked up to an I.V. In the examination bay, Elizabeth stroked her son's back as she tearfully promised Aiden that his father was on his way home. Elizabeth promised Aiden that everything would be okay, because she would make sure of it.
Lulu left the cubicle, and then saw Monica standing near the nurses' station. Monica realized that she owed Elizabeth an apology. Lulu reminded Monica that Monica had also lost Jake. "There's a couple that I lost," Monica conceded. Monica sadly confided that during Jason's recent brain surgery, she had been hoping that Jason would return to her, as he had been prior to the accident with AJ.
11/22 Lucky arrived at GH to check on Aiden. Tracy explained that Aiden had received a blood transfusion, so Aiden was out of danger. Tracy wondered how Lucky had known that Aiden had been sick. Lucky was saved from explaining when Dr. Wurth arrived. Tracy quickly introduced Lucky to Aiden's doctor, who explained Aiden's condition to Lucky.
Luke sat nearby, in the waiting area, as Lucky asked Maggie for assurance that Aiden would be okay. Lucky wanted to see Aiden, so Maggie thought that it would do the child good; however, she cautioned Lucky that Aiden needed to rest.
Lucky held Aiden, and then explained that they had a lot of people to thank, including Siobhan and Jake. Lucky conceded that it didn't make sense, but perhaps it wasn't supposed to. Lucky realized that everything had worked out, as it should have, including Luke answering Lucky's phone call.
Moments later, Steve spotted Lucky, so he decided to talk to Lucky about Aiden. Lucky confessed that he was concerned about Elizabeth, because Lucky hadn't been able to reach her. Steve informed Lucky that Elizabeth was in the hospital, recovering from pneumonia. Steve revealed that Elizabeth knew about Aiden's situation, but she hadn't been told that Luke had driven the baby to the hospital. Lucky agreed that it had been a wise decision.
Tracy studied the bottle for a moment, and wondered if Luke would have taken Aiden to the hospital if he'd been drinking? He declares he wouldn’t have gone to see the little tyke if he had been drinking. Luke tried to avoid the question, but Tracy was relentless. Luke doubted that anyone would believe what he had to say, so Tracy pointed out that everyone had good reason to distrust Luke.
Tracy then switched gears to ask what Luke intended to do for Thanksgiving, because no one should be alone on Thanksgiving. Luke continued to make light of everything, so Tracy warned him that Lucky was likely on his way to see Luke. "What condition do you want to be in when he gets here?" Tracy wondered.
Tracy thought that Luke had made a lot of progress. "Don't blow it now," she advised Luke.
"Progress is in the eye of the beholder," Luke argued. Tracy admitted that she cared about Luke, prompting Luke to grumble that he clearly wasn't doing his job right. Tracy conceded that he had his faults, and then warned him,
"Don't add stupid to the list."
Later, Luke was playing cards when he heard Lucky arrive. Luke reached for the bottle of scotch, to stare at it. Luke stopped in the doorway, saw his father with the bottle of scotch, and then quietly left. Luke waited until he was certain that Lucky was gone, before he screwed the cap onto the bottle of scotch.
11/29 At the hospital, Elizabeth was pleasantly surprised when Lucky carried Aiden to her room for a visit. Lucky revealed that he had arrived in town earlier that evening. Lucky offered to leave so that Elizabeth could rest, but Elizabeth admitted that she was afraid that it would all turn out to be a dream, so she preferred that Lucky and Aiden stayed. Elizabeth was curious how Lucky had known that Aiden had been sick, but Lucky would only reply, "It's a long story."
Elizabeth let the matter drop as she confessed that she was relieved that Lucky was home, where he belonged. Lucky smiled awkwardly, but didn't respond. Elizabeth didn't seem to notice, as she told Lucky that Cam would be delighted to learn that Lucky was home. Lucky explained that he was exhausted, so he intended to go home to get some rest before he checked on Cam in the morning.
Elizabeth gently reminded Lucky that the boys needed their father around all of the time, not just occasionally when they ended up in the hospital. Lucky promised Elizabeth that he would be around for Cam and Aiden as often as he could be, but he reminded her that he couldn't be there for every little thing, because he and Elizabeth weren't together. Elizabeth suggested that they could start a new chapter as a family. "It's all about miracles, Lucky," Elizabeth insisted.
Later, Lucky returned to Elizabeth's hospital room with Cam and Aiden in tow. Cam jumped into bed with his mother, and then showed her the card that he had made. Elizabeth was stunned when Lucky confessed that he had thought about her during his trip to Ireland, and that he had put aside all of his hurt and anger, because he wanted them to be a family again.
Lucky reached out for Elizabeth's hand, and then squeezed it. Elizabeth's eyes snapped open when Epiphany complained about the grip that Elizabeth had on Epiphany's hand. Epiphany suggested that Elizabeth had had quite a vivid dream, but Elizabeth insisted that it hadn't been a dream. According to Elizabeth, it had been a glimpse into her future.
At the nurses' station, Lucky thanked Maggie for saving Aiden's life. Maggie was relieved that Lucky wasn't angry with her for enlisting Luke's help. Lucky had no idea what Maggie was talking about, so Maggie told Lucky about Luke's attempt to fake an angina attack. Lucky smiled, and admitted that he didn't care what they had done to save Aiden's life, he was just grateful that they had succeeded. Maggie was curious how Lucky had known that Aiden was sick. Lucky confided that he had received a sign from his late wife, while he had been in Ireland.
Moments later, Steve and Olivia returned to the hospital. Olivia refused to apologize for nagging Dante about taking care of himself. Steve chuckled as he assured Olivia that she was a great mom. At the nurses' station, Maggie was happy to see that Steve had returned. Steve thanked Maggie for covering for him. Lucky seemed startled that Dr. Wurth's first name was Maggie. Maggie explained that she had been named after a saint.
11/30 In the waiting area, Maggie was curious how Lucky had known that Aiden had been sick. Lucky seemed reluctant to share the details, but he confided that he felt his deceased wife's presence all of the time. Maggie suggested that love was a powerful thing that connected people in ways that couldn't always be broken. Maggie was surprised when Lucky revealed that she had been part of a sign that he had received from Siobhan. Lucky told Maggie about the letter that had been sent him to St. Margaret's in Ireland to wait for a message from a loved one who had passed away.
Lucky confessed that he had rushed home after he had received the message, and then had learned that "St. Maggie" had saved Aiden's life. Lucky was certain that it had been more than a coincidence. Maggie assured Lucky that she had seen many miracles, so a person didn't have to be religious to believe in them.
Lucky suspected that Maggie had something to do with those miracles, but Maggie argued that her job was very difficult at times. However, the miracles made it worth it. Maggie confided that working with children had taught her to never give up. "Not on hope, and not on people," Maggie added.
Later, Ethan was surprised to see Lucky in the waiting area. After the brothers greeted each other, Ethan asked how Aiden and Elizabeth were doing. Lucky assured Ethan that Aiden was a "rock star," and recovering quickly. However, Lucky was concerned about Elizabeth. Ethan worried that Elizabeth had suffered a setback, so Lucky clarified that Elizabeth was still clinging to the hope that she and Lucky could be a family.
Lucky had no idea how to let Elizabeth down, while she was still weak from her ordeal.
Ethan insisted that Elizabeth wanted someone to save her from drowning, like the faceless stranger whom Elizabeth believed had fished her out of the water. Lucky was curious what Ethan knew of the incident, so Ethan revealed that he had found footprints in Wyndemere, which had led Ethan to believe that someone was skulking around Spoon Island.
Ethan quickly changed the subject by offering to take Lucky home, so that Lucky could get some rest. Lucky admitted that he couldn't sleep, because his thoughts ran wild every time he closed his eyes. Ethan knew what that was like, so Lucky wondered how to make it stop, without resorting to copious amounts of alcohol. Ethan assured Lucky that alcohol didn't help, because the thoughts would still be there after the warm fuzzy feeling of the alcohol faded.
Ethan then wondered if Lucky had received a message from Siobhan. "I sort of did," Lucky admitted; however, Lucky claimed that he was still trying to figure it out. Ethan was curious what was next for Lucky. Lucky revealed that he intended to focus on the things in life that he could control. Ethan reminded his brother that it wasn't a bad thing to want more out of life. "Even if I don't know what that is?" Lucky asked. Ethan chuckled, and then explained that the mystery was part of the fun.
12/2 Lucky and Aiden visited Elizabeth in her hospital bed. Maggie let them know that Aiden was on the mend. Lucky was reticent to give Elizabeth the details of how Aiden had made his way to the hospital in the first place. After Lucky and Aiden had left, Maggie returned to check up on Liz. Maggie let her know it had been Luke who had taken Aiden to the hospital that night.
Maggie ran into Luke as she left Elizabeth's hospital room. Maggie asked Luke why he was avoiding taking credit for getting Aiden to the hospital, but he didn't respond. As Luke waited for the elevator, Monica approached him. "I hear you are a hero for saving your grandson," she said as she smacked him across the face. "That's for killing mine!" she added. As she walked away, Luke saw that Lucky had witnessed the interaction.
12/5 Near the elevators, Elizabeth confronted Luke while he was talking to Lucky. She wanted to know why he had been in her house when Aiden got sick. Elizabeth told Lucky to keep Luke away from her boys because she was not burying another son because of Luke. Luke was momentarily stunned by her vehemence, but told Elizabeth that he was glad that she had taken the target off herself and pinned it on him where it belonged.
Elizabeth's anger at Luke did not abate. She told him that he did not care about her other children and had only visited Aiden because Aiden was Lucky's biological son. Elizabeth started screaming at Lucky. She told him not to defend his father because of all Luke had taken from them. Lucky urged her to calm down, but Elizabeth continued to shout that Luke had cheated Jake out of his future. Elizabeth collapsed.
Epiphany produced a wheelchair and took Elizabeth back to her room. Luke told Lucky that it was Lucky's turn to have a say. Lucky said that he had already said everything that he had to say to Luke. Luke replied that Lucky had told him that they could move forward once Luke was sober. Luke said he was sober and wanted to move forward. Lucky did not believe Luke.
Luke offered that because of all that had happened, Elizabeth was on emotional overload. Luke cautioned that because Lucky had been there to catch her, Elizabeth would continue to have expectations of Lucky. Luke told Lucky not to make the same mistake with Elizabeth that Luke had made with Laura. When Lucky asked whether the mistake was falling in love or letting it go, Luke walked away.
Back in Elizabeth's room, Patrick apologized to Elizabeth for recommending Lisa to the hospital, which had ultimately resulted in Elizabeth's near drowning. Elizabeth assured Patrick that it was not his fault.
Lucky went to Elizabeth's room to check on her. Elizabeth apologized for causing a scene and said that she was embarrassed. Lucky told Elizabeth about his experience in Ireland. Lucky said that he had gone there because of a letter that Siobhan had left for him, but instead of getting a message from her, he had gotten a message from Jake about Aiden's illness.
Elizabeth said that Jake knew that she needed Lucky as much as Aiden did and had sent Lucky home to them.
Elizabeth said that she and Lucky were being given a second chance and begged him to take it. She said that both Aiden and Cameron wanted them to be a family again. Lucky said they had been over the same ground before. Lucky said he was not strong enough to have Elizabeth and then lose her again. Elizabeth urged Lucky to reconsider. She said that they could give Aiden the life that had been taken from Jake.
12/6 In Elizabeth's hospital room, Lucky realized that Elizabeth envisioned a future with him, so he warned her not to read too much into things. Elizabeth reminded Lucky of what they had meant to each other, but Lucky argued that they couldn't go back, "ever." Elizabeth quickly clarified that she wanted to move forward with Lucky. She knew that Lucky had gone to Ireland to deal with his guilt, because Siobhan's death had taken its toll on him.
Lucky explained that he had gone to Ireland, because he had lost faith in everything, so Elizabeth pointed out that Jake's message had been a sign. Lucky insisted that the message had only been about Aiden, nothing more. Lucky added that he had been on a journey, so Elizabeth wondered why they couldn't be on one together. Lucky explained that he and Elizabeth were always drawn together by tragedies, because one of them needed saving, or to be a savior.
Lucky admitted that he couldn't do it anymore, so he wanted a fresh start. Elizabeth couldn't understand why Lucky refused to see that Aiden was a new beginning, and that the message from Jake had been a reminder that life went on. Lucky stressed that life went on, not backwards. Elizabeth suggested that Lucky stop punishing himself, because happiness was still within reach.
She urged Lucky to embrace it, and then reached for his hand. Lucky pulled his hand out of Elizabeth's grasp, and then reminded her that they had failed to make things work in the past. Elizabeth's anger flared as she informed Lucky that he couldn't have it both ways. She accused Lucky of wanting everyone to see him as a great, and loving father, yet he also wanted to be free to pass in and out of his sons' lives.
Lucky denied it, but Elizabeth argued that he had left for Ireland without telling the boys goodbye. Lucky argued that he had told her about his plans, but Elizabeth claimed that Lucky had been vague, at best, and that he had treated her the same way that Luke had treated Laura. Elizabeth accused Lucky of thinking like an addict, and running away from his responsibilities.
Lucky disagreed, but Elizabeth wondered if he truly expected her to believe that he hadn't thought about picking up a glass, or taking a pill. Lucky conceded that he had thought about it every day, which was why he had left town for a while. Elizabeth revealed that Ethan had told her that Lucky pushed Elizabeth away, because Lucky loved her. Lucky acknowledged that he would always love Elizabeth, but he insisted that they were codependent.
Elizabeth was tired of the addiction metaphors, so Lucky suggested that first loves didn't last for a reason: people grew up. Elizabeth wondered if Lucky expected her to sit around waiting for him. Lucky admitted that it would be disastrous for her if she did, so Elizabeth reminded him that he had once believed that love was enough. Lucky was certain that, with time and help, Elizabeth would accept that they could never be together again.
Elizabeth was stunned that he would imply that she needed professional help. Lucky assured Elizabeth that he hadn't meant it like that, but Elizabeth argued that it wasn't crazy of her to expect Lucky to stop making excuses to the boys about why he wasn't around, and to commit to all of them. Lucky promised that he would always be there for Cam and Aiden, and then reminded her that he had always been a "hands-on father."
As if to prove his point, Lucky assured Elizabeth that he would take the boys until she was strong enough to go home. Elizabeth angrily accused Lucky of being part of Cam and Aiden's lives when it was convenient for Lucky. Lucky didn't think that she was being fair. "Maybe not," Elizabeth conceded, but she insisted that Lucky's dead wife seemed to be his priority. Lucky denied it, and then suggested that they both needed a break to find out who they really were.
Elizabeth assured Lucky that she knew exactly who she was; she was a single mother, who begged friends and family, including his sister, for help, so that Elizabeth could work her butt off to keep a roof over Cam and Aiden's heads. Elizabeth refused to end up like Laura by going crazy, in an attempt to keep her family together, while her husband took off to "find himself."
Lucky insisted that he wasn't like Luke. "Right," Elizabeth replied, and then coldly accused Luke of trying to get a free pass for killing "my son," by convincing the world that Luke had given up alcohol. Lucky suggested that they continue the discussion another time, because it wasn't good for Elizabeth to get upset.
Elizabeth resented Lucky telling her that he loved her and the boys, but then insisting that he couldn't be with them because he needed to find himself.
Lucky decided to fetch Elizabeth's doctor, but Elizabeth accused Lucky of looking for an excuse to walk away, because that was what he was good at.
"Just go," Elizabeth shouted as Lucky left. Moments later, Elizabeth got out of bed, went to the closet, pulled out her overnight bag, and then dug out a tube of lipstick. Later, Lucky and a nurse returned to Elizabeth's hospital room, but Elizabeth's bed was empty. The nurse went to check the bathroom, while Lucky spotted something on Elizabeth's bed. "Can't do this," was scrawled across Elizabeth's pillow in red lipstick.
12/13 At Shadybrook, Elizabeth was surprised that Lucky had tracked her down. Lucky reminded Elizabeth that she had written a disturbing message on the pillow case, reminiscent of what Siobhan had done prior to Siobhan's death. Elizabeth conceded that it had been insensitive and wrong of her to do, and then pointed out that she clearly had issues to deal with. Lucky wondered why she hadn't discussed it with him, before taking off. Elizabeth insisted that there had been nothing to talk about; she intended to stay at the sanitarium until she was over Lucky.
Lucky questioned if staying at Shadybrook was the answer, but Elizabeth reminded Lucky that he had been the one to suggest that she needed help. Lucky clarified that he had meant that she might benefit from counseling, but Elizabeth argued that she couldn't accept his decision about where they stood with each other. Lucky conceded that perhaps intensive therapy would help Elizabeth to accept his decision, but he was curious when she had decided to seek treatment.
Elizabeth was stunned when Lucky suggested that it might be a desperate attempt to keep Lucky from running away. She couldn't believe that he would think that she was that manipulative; she wondered how he had ever managed to love such a terrible and pathetic person. "You don't believe that," Lucky shot back. Lucky clarified that he couldn't understand why Elizabeth was in the sanitarium.
Elizabeth was curious if he truly cared, so Lucky assured her that he would always care about her. However, he insisted that he needed to figure out who he was, and what he believed. Elizabeth warned Lucky that it didn't matter how far he went, or how much he convinced himself that it was what he needed, because he wouldn't be able to stop loving her. Elizabeth explained that he had too much of his mother, Laura, in him.
Lucky argued that they weren't his parents, so it didn't matter. Elizabeth insisted that Laura had taught him to love, and that his compassion, sensitivity, and caring nature had been passed down from his mother. Elizabeth suspected that it was the reason that Lucky had been struggling so badly with everything that had happened in recent months. Lucky claimed that Elizabeth was asking for the impossible by holding onto something that was gone. Elizabeth pointed out that Lucky had made his decision, so it was her turn to do the same, so he was free to go.
"I'm doing this for Cam and Aiden," Lucky replied.
Lucky explained that he would be a better father if he were able to figure things out. Elizabeth assured Lucky that he didn't owe her an explanation, and then promised that she and the boys would be fine without him. Lucky insisted that he intended to be present in Cam and Aiden's lives, but Elizabeth assured Lucky that it wasn't necessary, because she had plenty of help from their families.
Elizabeth then sarcastically suggested that perhaps she might call Luke to help out, since Lucky thought that Luke was such an "awesome babysitter." "It doesn't have to be like this," Lucky argued. Elizabeth explained that she was tired of loving him, and trying to convince him that they could be happy. Lucky insisted that she didn't want him; she wanted the idea of him.
Elizabeth assured Lucky that he had made his point repeatedly, so he could leave. She promised him that she would be fine, once she dealt with her addiction. Lucky promised to check on her in a few days, and then assured her that the boys would be fine with him.
After Lucky left, Elizabeth wandered the hallways until she spotted a man standing behind an easel. Intrigued, she stopped to watch him paint. Meanwhile, Lucky took Aiden the hospital for a checkup. Lucky realized that it wasn't the same for Aiden without his mother there, so Lucky assured his son that he would always love Aiden.
Dvd #7C 12/14 Lucky asked a nurse to track down Maggie. He explained that he had been waiting for quite some time, and that his son had fallen asleep. After the nurse went to look for Maggie, Matt spotted Lucky. "What the hell did you do to Elizabeth?" Matt demanded. Lucky seemed confused by the question, so Matt wondered if Lucky were that self-centered, or simply obtuse. "Excuse me?" Lucky asked.
Matt reminded Lucky that Elizabeth had been tossed overboard, nearly drowned, and suffered a terrible fright when Aiden had a serious health crisis. According to Matt, Lucky had made things worse for Elizabeth by continually rejecting her. Lucky explained that he had merely told Elizabeth the truth, but Matt insisted that it had landed Elizabeth in the mental ward. Matt was curious if Lucky even realized how special Elizabeth was, prompting Lucky to wonder if Matt had feelings for her.
Matt explained that Elizabeth was a good friend, and that he felt compassion for a single mother of two, whose children's father was never around. Lucky was curious what Matt expected Lucky to do. Matt suggested that Lucky find a new hobby, instead of using Elizabeth as an emotional punching bag. Matt started to walk away, but Lucky warned Matt to be careful, because rescuing Elizabeth could become a full-time job. "Go to hell," Matt replied.
Later, Lucky was impressed that Maggie was able to examine Aiden without waking the child up. Maggie smiled, and then assured Lucky that Aiden was healthy. She then began to talk about what had happened to Lucky in Ireland. Lucky confessed that he had begun to wonder if he had imagined all of it, but Maggie reminded him that he couldn't have known about Aiden's illness.
Lucky conceded that there were some things that couldn't be explained, such as why some people died, while others lived. Maggie revealed that she had just told someone about the first patient that she had lost. Maggie explained that Isaac had been an incredibly creative child, who had deserved to live.
As a medical professional, Maggie had learned not to question why some patients responded to treatments, while others didn't. Instead, Maggie tried to focus on how the people whom she had met had touched her life. Lucky appeared to consider Maggie's words as he watched her leave.
Shortly afterwards, Lucky noticed that a woman had dropped something before getting on the elevator. Lucky leaned down to pick it up, and then handed it to her. The young redhead was grateful, because, she confided, it was difficult to find a red beret in Port Charles.
At Shadybrook, Elizabeth stopped to watch a man painting at an easel. She started to quietly leave, but he called out to her to invite her to stay. Elizabeth immediately apologized for disturbing him, so he wondered if he looked like he had been bothered. He then changed the subject to ask if she were lost. Elizabeth pointed out that they were all a bit lost, because they were in a sanitarium.
She then amended her remark by admitting that a more apt description for her would be "hopeless." The man insisted that there was no such thing; they were simply helpless for a little while. The man offered Elizabeth a cup of tea. Elizabeth initially accepted, but then changed her mind, because it was getting late.
The man persuaded her to stay, provided that it wasn't too much trouble for him. The man suspected that Elizabeth had a habit of going without, because she didn't want to bother anyone. "That's insightful," Elizabeth admitted. She then changed the subject by asking him how long he had been at Shadybrook.
"A few months," the man responded. Elizabeth became skittish as they briefly talked about his impression of the sanitarium, so she decided to decline the tea and leave. The man accused her of having an "unproductive relationship with time." He advised Elizabeth to go with the ebb and flow, so that she could fill her moments with as much excitement and passion as she could. Elizabeth explained that she was a single working mother, so she needed to keep her feet grounded.
The man confessed that it seemed like a waste, and then handed her a cup of tea. Elizabeth took a tentative sip, and then admitted that the tea was delicious. The man smiled, and then asked her how many children she had. Elizabeth's eyes filled with tears as she revealed that she had two children. The man was curious why she seemed so sad, so she revealed that she'd had three children, but one of her boys had passed away. Elizabeth once again decided to leave, but instead she stood rooted to the spot, staring at the man.
"Something wrong?" the man wondered.
"No," Elizabeth answered after several heartbeats. She snapped out of her daze, and then confessed that she had once enjoyed painting, but she no longer had the time to indulge in the hobby. The man was curious if painting had spoken to her soul.
"It used to," Elizabeth admitted. The man encouraged Elizabeth to paint again, but she quickly changed the subject when she spotted the color of blue that he was using on his drop cloth. She admitted that it reminded her of the ocean, which she used to love until she had nearly drowned.
The man pointed out that she had clearly survived, so Elizabeth revealed that someone had saved her. Moments later, Matt appeared in the doorway.
"Elizabeth?" Matt asked. Elizabeth quickly explained what she was doing in the man's room, bid her new acquaintance goodbye, and then stepped out into the hallway with Matt. Matt was curious what Elizabeth was doing at Shadybrook, but Elizabeth explained that she was tired of talking about it after her discussion with Lucky.
Matt argued that she didn't seem to have a problem talking to the stranger. Elizabeth confessed that something seemed very familiar about the man in the room across from hers, but Matt warned her that it wasn't a good idea to fraternize with the man, because she didn't know why he was there. Elizabeth argued that the same could be said about her. Matt claimed that it was obvious why she had checked into Shadybrook: Elizabeth wanted to make Lucky feel guilty.
Elizabeth wondered why everyone was so quick to assume that she was trying to manipulate Lucky. "Because you usually are," Matt replied. However, he admitted that checking herself into the sanitarium was a little over-the-top. Elizabeth explained that it had seemed like a good idea at the time. Matt admitted that it was disturbing that she had gone to such extremes for a guy who didn't even deserve her.
Frustrated, Elizabeth warned Matt that he had made his point. Matt explained that he was simply concerned about her. Elizabeth was clearly annoyed, so Matt decided to leave. Moments later, Elizabeth wandered back to the man's room, where the man continued to work on his painting.
12/16 Maxie helped Lucky decorate Elizabeth's house for the holidays. Maxie insinuated she wanted Elizabeth to be happy, so as to stop pursuing Matt. Lucky dissuaded Maxie from the notion that Liz was interested in Maxie's boyfriend, but she pressed him to help Liz focus on recovery. Maxie went to the car to get more decorations as Ethan walked in. He asked his brother about the "miracle," how Lucky had known Aiden was ill while Lucky was halfway around the world. Lucky doubted the spiritual ramifications of his journey.
Ethan retorted, "Just 'cause something is impossible doesn't mean it's not real."
Lucky admitted that he wanted to have the family with Elizabeth that he'd always dreamed of, but he didn't think it was possible. Ethan reminded Lucky of Lucky's own words: "You and Elizabeth do not work as a couple." As a gambling man, Ethan said that the payout was much bigger when the odds were bad, and he urged Lucky to be true to his heart.
Maxie returned and finished decorating. Lucky thanked her, but she said she had enjoyed it. It reminded her of her childhood with her sister Georgie.
At Shadybrook, Elizabeth entered the room of the man that she had meant earlier to find him still painting on a canvas. She told him he seemed familiar to her. She went to take a peek at his painting, but he covered it up, and she apologized. He introduced himself as Ewen. Matt arrived and whisked her away.
Matt warned Elizabeth to be careful who she became chummy with. He gave Liz the framed photo of her kids she'd left behind. She sensed something was wrong and asked Matt what had happened. He said he'd killed someone.
Elizabeth assumed he was talking about Lisa, but Matt let her know that First Officer Briggs had murdered Lisa after having discovered Lisa had killed the captain.
Matt clarified that he felt guilty over the death of a patient, due to the paper he'd published. He felt a responsibility, because the doctors who had treated the deceased man had utilized the procedure Matt had devised.
As Matt and Elizabeth talked, Ewen eavesdropped. Matt stated that time and distance from Lucky would allow her to realize she was better without him. Liz asked Matt if maybe she was putting on an act for Lucky's benefit, just as Lucky arrived.
12/19 Matt was at Shadybrook with Elizabeth when Lucky visited. Lucky said that he wanted Elizabeth to return home. Elizabeth said that she was trying to do what was best for the boys, because she did not want to be alone during the holidays. Lucky said that she would not be alone, that he would be there and that they would be together as a family. Matt interrupted and said that it was a bad idea.
Elizabeth rushed to shut Matt up, but Matt said that he did not want to see Lucky hurt Elizabeth again. Elizabeth ignored Matt and sent him away. She turned to Lucky and said that she did not know what was wrong with Matt, that he must be having problems with Maxie. Lucky was skeptical but did not say that Matt was jealous. Lucky told Elizabeth that he would not leave her until she was recovered. Elizabeth was all smiles and said that it would be the best Christmas ever. Ewen stood outside the door and overheard their conversation.
While Lucky checked Elizabeth out of Shadybrook, Elizabeth sneaked into Ewen's room and started to remove the cover from his painting. Before she could do so, Ewen caught her. Elizabeth was embarrassed and apologized. Ewen said it was normal to seek out the forbidden. Then he admitted overhearing her conversation with Lucky. Ewen said that she was making a mistake. He said that she was leaving too soon and for the wrong reason.
Elizabeth became defiant and told Ewen that it was none of his business and that she knew what she was doing. Ewen acknowledged that Lucky was falling for Elizabeth's plan, but warned that Elizabeth did not know the consequences just as she had not thought of the emotional consequences that would ensue if she looked at his painting after Ewen had specifically asked her not to peek. Elizabeth said that it was just a painting.
Ewen said that painting was an intimate form of communication, which an artist was compelled by primal forces to create. Ewen said that paintings contained a personal truth that was not found on other people's canvases. He added that perhaps that explained why Elizabeth had abandoned painting.
Elizabeth snarled back that she did not know why he was there and that Ewen did not know anything about her or her life. Ewen responded that he knew what he had seen. Elizabeth shot back that Ewen should focus on his own therapy and develop some people skills. Then she stormed out of his room. When she returned to hers, it was obvious that Elizabeth had been shaken by Ewen's comments.
When Lucky returned to get Elizabeth, they walked past Ewen's room. Elizabeth went inside and noticed that the easel was missing and that there was a desk in the room instead of a bed. Ewen walked in, dressed in a sport jacket instead of a smock. He introduced himself as Dr. Ewen Keenen and said that Elizabeth was his patient, but that they had never gotten started. Ewen gave Elizabeth his card and said that he also did outpatient counseling. Elizabeth and Lucky left together. When they arrived at Elizabeth's home, she was impressed with the Christmas decoration.
12/20 At Elizabeth's house, Elizabeth admitted that she loved the Christmas tree. Lucky credited Maxie for transforming the house for the holiday. Elizabeth thanked Lucky for taking her home, so that she could heal with her family. Lucky smiled uncomfortably, and then decided to send the babysitter home. Elizabeth quickly invited Lucky to spend the night, so he agreed to sleep in the boys' room. Later, Lucky returned to the living room, to let Elizabeth know that the boys had fallen asleep.
Elizabeth looked forward to surprising her boys in the morning. Lucky warned Elizabeth that Cam had developed a new obsession with oatmeal for breakfast, and a red shirt, which Cam tried to wear daily. Elizabeth chuckled, and then thanked Lucky for helping out with the boys. She suggested that they take their sons to see the carousel that weekend, because it was always decked out for the holidays. Lucky smiled weakly, and then deftly switched gears by confessing that he had thought that it would be good for her to have Christmas.
"And the family," Elizabeth added. Lucky started to clarify something, but Elizabeth quickly cut him off by explaining that Christmas was all about family, and that it felt right for them to be together. "Isn't that what we want?" Elizabeth asked. Lucky evaded the question by handing Cam's Christmas list to Elizabeth.
Elizabeth smiled brightly as they reminisced about previous Christmases. Lucky decided to do some Christmas shopping, so he promised to return shortly. After Lucky left, Elizabeth busied herself lighting candles when someone knocked on the front door. It was Maxie.
Maxie was in a foul mood, but Elizabeth didn't seem to notice as she thanked Maxie for decorating the house. Elizabeth realized that she wasn't Maxie's favorite person, so Maxie quickly clarified that Elizabeth was the toxic slime at the bottom of the barrel. Elizabeth was taken aback by Maxie's hostility. Maxie demanded to know how Elizabeth could do what she had done to Lucky, after everything that Lucky had been through with Laura.
"Excuse me?" Elizabeth asked. Maxie warned Elizabeth to spare her the innocent act, and then began to rant. Elizabeth decided that it was time for Maxie to leave, but Maxie refused to budge until she'd had her say. Maxie insisted that Elizabeth had no right to play on Lucky's love for his children, prompting Elizabeth to deny that she would ever do that. Maxie accused Elizabeth of checking into Shadybrook, because Elizabeth had known that Lucky would "ride in on his white horse" to save Elizabeth.
Maxie sarcastically congratulated Elizabeth on finally finding a way to keep Lucky around, but she had needed to fake a breakdown to do it. Maxie and Elizabeth's heads turned when Lucky made a noise from the doorway. Elizabeth quickly tried to explain that Maxie had been wrong, while Maxie insisted that she had merely been trying to protect Lucky. Lucky ordered Maxie to leave, so she quietly complied.
Lucky then turned to Elizabeth to demand to know if Maxie had been right. Elizabeth insisted that Maxie couldn't be believed, but Lucky resented that Elizabeth had thought that she could continue to play him. Lucky felt like a fool for feeling guilty, because he had questioned Elizabeth's reason for going to Shadybrook. Lucky wanted Elizabeth to admit that she had been lying, so Elizabeth conceded that she had taken advantage of the situation, because she had been desperate. Lucky coldly suggested that she could have told him the truth.
Elizabeth's temper flared. She accused Lucky of not being honest with himself, or how he felt about her. Elizabeth was sorry that she had gone to such extremes, but she insisted that he hadn't been listening to her when she had tried to talk to him. Elizabeth explained that she couldn't stand the thought of losing him again, because she and the boys needed him. Lucky argued that it wasn't about their family; it was about them. Elizabeth realized that she had made a terrible mistake, and she had hurt him.
"Forgive me, Lucky, please," Elizabeth tearfully pleaded. Lucky confessed that he had lied, too, by convincing himself that they could work things out. However, he insisted that he had been wrong; they could never make it work, so it was over. Elizabeth wondered what to say to their sons, so Lucky promised to return in the morning to explain everything to them. Lucky stood firm as Elizabeth questioned if he knew what he was doing. Elizabeth begged him to reconsider, but Lucky left.
Afterwards, Elizabeth went to the fireplace mantel, took down her wedding picture with Lucky, pulled it out of the frame, and then laid it facedown on the table as tears streamed down her face.
Meanwhile, Lucky arrived home. He flipped through his mail as he approached his front door, but stopped short when he spotted a postcard. The back of the postcard read, "I hope you find what you're looking for." The front of the postcard was a snapshot of St. Margaret's Church in Ireland.
The episode featured the song, “One Goodbye” by Jayson Belt.
12/21 At the hospital, Maxie was looking for Matt when Elizabeth suddenly walked up, and then slapped her. "Stay the hell out of my life," Elizabeth warned Maxie. Maxie was startled as Elizabeth accused Maxie of hurting Elizabeth's family. Maxie claimed that she cared a lot about Lucky, so she refused to stand by, and watch, while Elizabeth tricked Lucky into a reunion that Lucky didn't want. Ewen approached the nurses' station during Elizabeth's confrontation with Maxie, so he eavesdropped on their heated argument.
Elizabeth insisted that Maxie had put everything into motion by constantly undermining Elizabeth and Lucky's relationship. Maxie argued that Elizabeth and Lucky didn't have a relationship, because Elizabeth had cheated on Lucky with Jason and Nikolas, Lucky's own brother. Elizabeth warned Maxie that it wasn't any of Maxie's business, but Maxie shot back that Elizabeth had made it Maxie's business by slapping Maxie. Maxie proceeded to berate Elizabeth for faking a breakdown, and checking into Shadybrook, which Maxie thought was beyond cruel, because Lucky's mother had been a legitimate "mental patient." According to Maxie, Elizabeth made Lucky miserable, so Elizabeth should leave Lucky alone.
Elizabeth suspected that Maxie felt threatened by Matt's friendship with Elizabeth, so Maxie wanted revenge. Maxie accused Elizabeth of befriending Matt, so she had a backup plan, in the event that things didn't work out with Lucky. Elizabeth wondered if it bothered Maxie that Elizabeth could actually comprehend the things that Matt talked about, and then advised Maxie to find someone else to take her insecurities out on.
Matt was stunned when he heard Elizabeth and Maxie arguing, so he quickly approached them to find out what was going on. Elizabeth explained that Maxie had tried to sabotage her life, while Maxie accused Elizabeth of faking a breakdown. Elizabeth dared Maxie to prove it, so Maxie smugly informed Elizabeth that it wasn't necessary, because Elizabeth had confessed the truth to Matt, who in turn had told Maxie.
"You told her?" Elizabeth asked Matt in a hurt tone. Elizabeth felt betrayed, because Matt should have known that Maxie would run to Lucky with the information. Maxie snidely suggested that the next time Elizabeth pull a similar stunt, she not brag about it to anyone. Matt quickly clarified that Elizabeth hadn't bragged about anything, but it was too little, too late for Elizabeth.
Matt explained that he had been upset when he had let the information slip to Maxie, because Elizabeth had been determined to work on a relationship that Matt felt had been doomed to fail. Maxie was curious what Elizabeth, who had just "uncommitted" herself from Shadybrook, was doing at the hospital. Maxie didn't wait for an answer as she continued to criticize Elizabeth. Eventually, Matt barked, "That's enough."
Elizabeth refused to apologize for trying to save her family, but Maxie argued that it was still based on a lie. Matt reminded Maxie that Elizabeth had been through a lot recently, including almost dying, and then admitted that he appreciated Elizabeth's desire to keep the father of her children in her sons' lives, because he knew what it was like to grow up without a father. Maxie informed Matt that Elizabeth had slapped her, so she was curious if Matt were suggesting that Maxie had deserved it.
Elizabeth warned Maxie not to ask questions if she weren't prepared for the answers. Maxie thought that Elizabeth would deserve to lose Lucky, so she hoped that Lucky would one day tell the boys the truth about why he had left Elizabeth. "He couldn't live with you," Maxie snarled. Matt ordered Maxie to stop, but Maxie ignored him. Elizabeth thought that it was good for Matt to see how hateful Maxie really was.
Maxie argued that at least she was honest, and didn't resort to acting like a victim to get what she wanted. Elizabeth grew weary of Maxie's tirade, so she decided to collect her paycheck, and then leave. Maxie continued to fling insults at Elizabeth as Elizabeth walked away. Matt tried to stop Maxie, but she threatened to slap him if he said another word.
Later, Elizabeth bumped into Ewen at the nurses' station. She was shocked to see him, so she wondered what he was doing there. Ewen revealed that he worked at the hospital as a psychiatrist. Elizabeth was stunned; she wondered if he had lied to everyone the way that he had lied to her. Ewen quickly reminded Elizabeth that he had never told her that he was a patient at Shadybrook; she had merely assumed that he was. Elizabeth accused Ewen of intentionally misleading her, which she insisted had been manipulative.
"Not a pleasant feeling, is it?" Ewen asked. Annoyed, Elizabeth started to leave, but Ewen revealed that she had been assigned to him, so he had taken the opportunity to get to know her. Elizabeth realized that Ewen had likely known about her background as an artist. She questioned if he'd really been painting something when she had seen him, or if the canvas had been filled with stick figures. Ewen pointed out that she was making assumptions again, but Elizabeth was upset that he had used something personal, that had once meant a lot to her, in order to get her to open up to him.
Ewen promised that he had meant what he had said, but Elizabeth had no idea what he was referring to. Ewen clarified that he strongly believed that she could benefit from therapy, so he offered to see her on an outpatient basis. Elizabeth refused to consider it. Moments later, Cam called to tell her that Lucky was leaving. Elizabeth assured Cam that she would be home right away, and then left.
At Elizabeth's house, Lucky broke the news that he had to leave town, so he wouldn't be with the boys for Christmas. Cam was deeply disappointed as he quietly asked, "Why?" Lucky explained that he had been looking for something, but had been interrupted before he could find it, so he had to return that very night to continue his quest. Lucky then opened presents with the boys. He thanked Cam for the red wool scarf, and then apologized again for missing Christmas.
Cam admitted that he couldn't understand why Lucky couldn't stay, and get back together with Elizabeth. Lucky assured Cam that he and Elizabeth would always love the boy, even if they had to go away, like Lucky. Lucky explained that it was better for him not to be married to Elizabeth, so that he and Elizabeth could focus more on Cam and Aiden.
Cam hugged his father, said that he loved Lucky, and then dashed to his bedroom with a present. Lucky wandered over to the playpen, and then picked up Aiden. Lucky confessed that he regretted that he was leaving, just like his father had, but he didn't have a choice. Moments later, Ethan walked in.
Ethan quickly realized that Lucky intended to return to Ireland. Lucky explained that he was no good to anyone in Port Charles, until he figured out what he wanted. Ethan thought that the timing was bad, so Lucky revealed that he didn't want to build up Elizabeth and the boys' hopes only to cruelly take that hope away. Ethan wondered if Lucky had talked to Lulu.
Lucky admitted that he had heard about their sister's engagement, so he had been reluctant to rain on Lulu's parade by telling her about his plans to return to Ireland. Ethan didn't argue with Lucky's decision, but he was curious if Lucky had been in contact with Luke. Lucky confessed that he finally understood why Luke had felt compelled to leave, so he was in no position to judge. Ethan wondered what had changed, so Lucky revealed that Elizabeth had faked her breakdown in a desperate attempt to manipulate a reconciliation.
Lucky conceded that he was partly to blame, because he and Elizabeth were caught in a cycle where one pursued when the other pulled away. Ethan agreed that Lucky was doing the right thing by leaving. Lucky appreciated the support, and asked his brother to keep an eye on the boys. Ethan promised to contact Lucky if the boys needed their father, so Lucky turned the conversation to Wyndemere.
Lucky wanted Ethan to be careful, because the Cassadines had a long, ugly history with the Spencers. Ethan confided that he had met a woman, who had taken up residence at the castle, but she appeared to be mute. Lucky reminded his brother that even stray cats had claws, so Ethan was in dangerous territory, and should keep an eye out for Helena.
Later, Elizabeth arrived home and saw Ethan sitting on the sofa. She apologized for taking so long, and then wondered where Lucky was. Ethan told her that Lucky had gone to the airport. Elizabeth was stunned when she realized that Lucky hadn't stayed to say goodbye to her. Ethan admitted that he suspected that Lucky had wanted to avoid hurting her. Elizabeth's eyes filled with tears as the truth dawned on her; Lucky wanted to avoid hurting himself.
Elizabeth realized that Ethan had been right about Lucky needing to get away from her. Ethan admitted that he had been "way out of line" when he had said that, but Elizabeth refused to let him take it back. She confessed that she had faked a breakdown, which made her "the lowest of the low." Ethan assured Elizabeth that Lucky didn't think that of her that way, but Elizabeth didn't seem to hear him.
"Well, it can't just end like this. He can't just walk away, because that would make him the bad guy," Elizabeth told Ethan. Ethan explained that Lucky knew that Lucky and Elizabeth had each been at fault. Elizabeth revealed that she had been willing to lie and cheat to keep her family together. Ethan reminded Elizabeth that Laura had tried to trap Luke, which had ended tragically.
Elizabeth wondered if Ethan were suggesting that history was doomed to repeat itself. Ethan assured Elizabeth that it didn't have to be like that. Elizabeth agreed, and then asked Ethan to watch the boys for a little while longer, while she took care of something.
Matt caught up to Maxie near the nurses' station, but Maxie was too furious to listen to what he had to say. She ranted until Matt explained that he didn't want to argue with her, because Christmas was his favorite time of the year. Maxie calmed down, as she quietly confessed that she had hated the holidays after Georgie had died, but she had slowly learned to love Christmas again. Matt wondered what her favorite part of Christmas was, so Maxie confided that it was waking up in the morning with the magical feeling that she'd had as a child. Matt revealed that his Christmas wish was to spend the holiday with her.
He begged her to agree, but Maxie's mood soured when she spotted Elizabeth standing near the elevator, as if she were looking for someone. Maxie admitted that Elizabeth looked sad, so she could probably use Matt's sympathy. Maxie encouraged Matt to go to Elizabeth, but she warned him that Elizabeth was only using him, the same as she had Lucky.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth approached Ewen when she saw him walk up to the nurses' station. Elizabeth wondered if Ewen were heading out, so he told her that it depended. Elizabeth confessed that she had thought about what he had said. "I need help," Elizabeth earnestly admitted.
At the airport, Lucky spotted a woman with two children, who were waiting for their father. The woman told the children that their father would be excited to see them.
12/23 Elizabeth encouraged Cameron to go to bed so Santa could make his appearance. There was a knock on the door, and Cameron shouted, "That's why Dad left," just as Liz opened it to find Ewen. Liz invited Ewen in, despite the fact that she was annoyed by his presence.
After Cameron went to bed, Ewen explained that Cameron's reaction had been normal, given the circumstances. She felt it inappropriate that Ewen had gone to her house. He gave her a gift, a blank canvas and painting supplies. Elizabeth was a bit stunned by the offering. After Ewen left, Cameron walked in and told Liz he loved her.
Lucky went back to Siobhan's altar at the churchyard in Ireland. He was thankful for the sign he'd received the last time he'd been there: the mystic message that Aiden was sick. He asked for a path to follow. Someone entered the yard. Lucky recognized them and asked, "Are you here to shore up my faith, or shatter it.”
12/29/11 At the nurses' station, Maggie welcomed Elizabeth back to work. Maggie realized that she hadn't worked with Elizabeth yet, but Maggie had heard that Elizabeth was one of the best nurses on staff. Maggie then wondered how Aiden was doing. Elizabeth assured Maggie that Aiden was great, thanks to Maggie. Their conversation then drifted to Christmas. Maggie was surprised when Elizabeth revealed that Lucky had left town again, in search of another miracle.
Maggie suggested that it was good for men to occasionally chase windmills, because they eventually woke up to realize that they were exactly where they should be. Elizabeth was curious if Maggie were hoping that would happen with Steve. Maggie realized that Elizabeth didn't beat around the bush, so Elizabeth admitted that she was tired of "waiting and reacting," because it hadn't gotten Elizabeth anywhere.
Maggie respected that, so she confided that she and Steve had been close once, but things had changed. Elizabeth confessed that the same had happened with her and Lucky. Maggie pointed out that change wasn't always a bad thing, because it could open a person up to new experiences, like the mystery man who had saved Elizabeth.
1/26/12 Elizabeth entered the Haunted Star, as Ethan was playing with a deck of cards. She explained that she had stopped by on impulse, prompting Ethan to wonder if she had been hoping to see Lucky. Elizabeth confessed that it was difficult not to think about Lucky, especially when all she heard at home was how wonderful Lucky was. Ethan offered to stop by the house to spend some time with Cam, and perhaps teach his nephew how to play poker. He was surprised when Elizabeth agreed.
She confided that Lucky had been teaching Cam how to play cards. Elizabeth admitted that it was difficult not to think about Lucky. She confessed that she had hoped that Lucky had returned when she had seen the lights on in the casino. Ethan felt bad for the way that he had treated Elizabeth, because he realized that he had been very judgmental towards her.
Elizabeth conceded that he'd had some valid points, but Ethan argued that his delivery had been inappropriate.
He regretted that he had given her the impression that Lucky had blamed her for Lucky's failures, when in truth Lucky had actually blamed himself. Ethan assured Elizabeth that Lucky had told him that Lucky would always care about Elizabeth. Elizabeth smiled sadly, and then revealed that she had accepted that Lucky wouldn't be returning for her. Ethan thought that she sounded as if she were trying to convince herself of something that she didn't believe.
Later, Elizabeth and Ethan sat down to sip some coffee, and play a hand of poker. She confessed that she felt like a country song, about a woman who continued to fall for the same man over and over. Elizabeth liked to think that she could be rational and cautious regarding Lucky, especially for the sake of her children, because she didn't want to drag them through more disappointment.
Ethan thought that it was very admirable of Elizabeth, but she confessed that she would likely run into Lucky's arms, and promise him that everything would be different. Ethan wondered if true love existed. Elizabeth assured him that it did, but people tended to expect too much from it. She suggested that sometimes the best thing for people to do was to let go, which was why she was determined to focus on her own happiness.
Elizabeth apologized for wallowing, but Ethan waved her concerns away, because he realized that he had never really known her. She smiled victoriously when she proudly presented him with a winning hand. Ethan was stunned, and immediately demanded a rematch. Elizabeth explained that she had to pick up the children, but she was happy that she had stopped by, because she had enjoyed talking to Ethan.

Expanded Descriptions 2015
7/1 In British Columbia, Laura and Holly showed Luke, Lulu, and Dillon the picture the kidnappers had sent of Ethan and Lucky bound to chairs and their mouths covered in duct tape. Luke promised to find and rescue both Ethan and Lucky before Luke killed the person behind the abductions. "Not you. Us," Holly corrected. Lulu was curious how they would find the person or persons responsible for her brothers' kidnappings, but no one had an answer. Luke studied the picture until he noticed a clue.
Luke pointed out that two fingers on Ethan's right hand were crossed, which had been a signal that Ethan and Luke had used in card games when someone had been holding jacks. Lulu wondered if it was possible that Ethan was trying to tell them that Jerry Jacks had kidnapped Ethan and Lucky. Laura agreed it was a good theory, but she noticed that Ethan had also been holding out three fingers on his left hand. "Three jacks," Luke muttered, but he had no idea what it meant.
Laura, Holly, Luke, Dillon, and Lulu continued to study the picture until Lulu realized that Lucky had also tried to send a message by pointing a finger at himself. Luke had no idea what Ethan and Lucky were attempting to tell him because Luke had never taught Lucky the card signals. Dillon suggested that perhaps Lucky was trying to indicate what Lucky meant to people. Luke's face lit up as he listed all the things Lucky was including a father, a cop, and a son. "Three Jackson," Laura said. Lulu quickly looked up the address on the Internet and discovered there was a lumberyard nearby at the address.
7/2 In the lumber mill, Luke was pleasantly surprised when he saw his son Ethan standing in the center of the room. Luke started to approach Ethan, but Ethan warned his father to stay back unless Luke wanted to die. Ethan pointed to the pressure mine under Ethan's foot, which would detonate if Ethan stepped off it. Ethan swayed on his feet as he confessed that he felt woozy, so he implored Luke to get out before it was too late, but Luke flatly refused.
Ethan admitted that he had to tell his father something, so Luke looked around for a way to help his son as Ethan revealed that Lucky had managed to get loose. However, the guards had returned before Lucky had been able to free Ethan, so Lucky had fled with the guards in hot pursuit. Ethan was concerned about his brother because he had heard gunshots ring out, but Luke remained focused on trying to help Ethan. Ethan stumbled back, but he managed to right himself before his foot slid off the pressure mine. He once again begged Luke to leave, but Luke ignored Ethan.
Resigned, Ethan watched his father grab some tools from a toolbox then closely examine the bomb, so Ethan explained how he had been abducted. According to Ethan, Lucky had called to ask for Ethan's help with an important matter, but Lucky hadn't gone into detail because Lucky had been certain that the phones had been bugged. Ethan urged Luke to find Lucky because Lucky might be hurt, but Luke calmly worked on the bomb. Several minutes later, Luke managed to cut a wire without detonating the bomb, so he was confident that he had disarmed it.
Ethan was reluctant to test Luke's theory until Luke had left the building, but Luke made it clear that he would save his son or die trying. Ethan told his father that he loved him, so Luke assured Ethan that he loved Ethan, too, because Ethan was the kind of man that Luke had always wanted to be. Ethan was touched, but Luke shifted gears to instruct Ethan to step off the bomb on the count of three. Luke reached for his son's hand, counted to two, then shoved Ethan off the bomb. Ethan's relief was short-lived because he was furious that his father had acted on the count of two instead of three.
Luke refused to apologize because he knew Ethan would have tried to push Luke away if Luke hadn't tricked his son. Luke and Ethan's good mood quickly evaporated when several armed guards suddenly entered the building, leading Holly, Laura, Lulu, and Dillon. The guards shoved their hostages into the center of the room as Luke demanded to see their boss. "Unfortunately for you, he feels the same way," one of the guards replied. Luke and Laura were stunned when someone entered the room. "My God. No." Laura said in disbelief as she shook her head. "It can't be," Luke added in shock.
July 3 In British Columbia, gunmen surrounded Holly, Ethan, Lulu, Dillon, a man in a wheelchair entered the room. Luke and Laura were stunned when they recognized Frank Smith. Dillon was curious who Frank was, so Luke explained that Frank was at the top of Luke's list of oldest enemies. "Right up there with Helena Cassadine," Frank added with an evil grin. Luke revealed that Frank was the reason Luke and Laura had been forced into hiding for several years when Lucky had been a child.
"I got to hand it to you, Frank. I never saw you coming," Luke said as Laura stared at Frank with horror. Frank was surprised because Luke should have realized only Frank would have tried to arrange a night of "bliss" for Luke and Jennifer. Luke wondered how Frank had managed to survive Luke's deadly bullet during their showdown in the cemetery twenty years earlier, so Frank reminded Luke that Luke had been too focused on trying to get Luke's friend to the hospital to check if Frank had taken his last breath.
According to Frank, Luke's bullet had severed Frank's spinal cord, which had forced Frank to crawl through mud to the road for help. Luke made a snide remark, but Frank was not amused because Frank had spent two decades confined to a wheelchair because of Luke. "And now -- finally -- it's payback time, Luke," Frank said. Frank smiled with menace as a guard forced Luke to his knees. Frank aimed a gun at Luke, but Luke pleaded with Frank to let everyone else go.
Frank glared at Laura as he accused Laura of murdering Frank's son, but Laura denied killing Damian. Frank ignored her as he informed Luke that he intended to kill each member of Luke's family before ending Luke's life. Frank invited Luke to pick the first person to die, but Dillon stepped forward to warn Frank that Frank would have to go through Dillon to get to Lulu. Annoyed, Frank instructed one of his men to deal with Dillon, so the guard knocked Dillon out. Lulu rushed to check on Dillon as Frank reminded Luke to pick someone.
Luke warned Frank that Lucky would arrive at any moment with reinforcements, but Frank wasn't concerned because Lucky had no idea that Luke was there. Luke explained that Lucky would return for Ethan because Spencers never left a family member behind.
Frank grew tired of arguing with Luke, so he fired the gun. Ethan fell to his knees as the bullet struck his arm. Outraged, Luke reminded Frank that Frank's grudge was with Luke not Luke's loved ones.
Surprisingly, Frank agreed to let the other hostages go. Holly immediately helped Ethan out as Dillon trailed behind. Laura started to follow Lulu, but Frank announced that Laura had to stay. Lulu tearfully objected, but Frank refused to release Laura. Laura assured her daughter that it would be fine then forced Lulu to go. After Lulu left, Laura returned to Luke's side as her eyes filled with tears.
"Here we are, the three of us, as it was meant to be," Frank said with satisfaction. Frank debated who to shoot first then decided Laura's death would cause Luke the greatest pain.
Outside, Holly helped Ethan to a vehicle so she could take him to the hospital. Lulu and Ethan exchanged a quick hug before Ethan climbed into the passenger seat. After Holly and Ethan left, Dillon and Lulu returned to the lumber mill to rescue her parents, but Dillon and Lulu were startled when they heard a gunshot ring out.
7/6 "Eenie meenie miney moe, who should be the first to go?" Frank taunted as he pointed his gun at Luke and Laura. He wondered if it would cause Luke more pain for Luke to watch Laura die first. He concluded that it would, so he pointed the gun at Laura.
Outside the warehouse, Lulu wondered how she and Dillon could get past the guards. Dillon told Lulu he had an idea, but they were interrupted by three gunshots inside the warehouse. Lulu wanted to help, but Dillon stopped her.
Inside the warehouse, Frank had been hit, and Lucky ran in shooting at the guards. He yelled for Luke and Laura to take cover. Finally, all the guards were down, and Luke thanked his son for the save. "This isn't the way I pictured our family reunion," Laura joked. Lucky asked about Ethan, and Luke told him that Holly had taken him to the hospital with a gunshot wound after Frank had let Holly, Ethan, Lulu, and Dillon leave. Luke observed that their family never had a dull moment.
Outside the warehouse, everything was quiet, so Lulu and Dillon determined that it was safe to go inside. When they did, Lulu was ecstatic to see that Lucky was all right. As the family reunion commenced, Frank slowly and quietly picked up his gun. Lulu instructed her family to stay and wait for the cops while she and Dillon checked on Ethan at the hospital. Just then, Luke saw Frank pointing his gun and warned everyone. As his family scattered, Luke shot Frank three more times. Frank informed Luke that he was "still alive."
"You still lost," Luke shot back. Frank reasoned that he'd "had to try." Luke promised that, "this time," he would make sure that Frank stayed dead. He asked for Frank's last words. Frank uttered that Lucky had been in on the scheme. Luke shot Frank one last time, and Frank slumped over. Luke checked Frank's pulse and determined that the man was dead. Lulu hugged Lucky goodbye. He told her to say hello to Dante and Rocco for him, and she and Dillon left to go to the hospital.
Laura wanted to call the police, but Luke thought they needed to talk first. Luke asked Lucky if he'd been in on Frank's scheme. "It's complicated," Lucky answered. He explained that he'd been forced to take part when he'd been taken hostage. He revealed that Jake's life was at stake. He told his confused parents that Jake was alive.
7/9 On Cassadine Island, off the coast of Greece, Luke and Laura approached the main house. Laura had reservations about Luke confronting Helena, but Luke assured her that he was fine. However, he didn't know what to make of their son's belief that Jake was alive. Laura appreciated why Lucky would want to believe it, but she wondered if it was even possible. Luke wasn't certain, but he was confident they would find the answers on Cassadine Island.
Luke realized it might be difficult for Laura to be back on the island where she had been kept as a prisoner, but he was certain Helena would have answers.
Laura was uneasy but relieved that Nikolas hadn't hesitated to give them access to the island and Helena when Laura had called. Luke was curious if Nikolas had asked for an explanation, so Laura revealed that she had asked her son to trust her. Luke thought it had been for the best not to tell Nikolas because it wouldn't have been fair to get Elizabeth's hopes up without proof. Laura agreed then started to walk toward the front door, but Luke hesitated.
Luke confided that he couldn't stop replaying the night of Jake's accident in his head. Luke recalled driving fast, the music blaring, and being distracted, so he had never seen Jake in the road or felt the impact when he had struck the toddler. He admitted that taking Jake away from Elizabeth had been the worst thing that had ever happened to him. Laura hugged Luke, but he decided it would be best for him to face Helena alone because Helena was more likely to talk if it was just him. Laura reluctantly agreed, so she left to join Lucky's search of the island for Jake.
Luke checked his gun then entered the house. Helena was seated at the table with her back to the door. She smiled when she heard Luke enter because she had been expecting him. Luke kept his gun at the ready as he looked around the main floor for possible henchman. Helena confessed that she had missed the "wicked sexy side" of Luke, like when they had nearly blown up the Haunted Star, but Luke ignored her. Luke sat down at the table, facing her, but Helena became distracted when she noticed his tattoo.
Luke explained it was a replica of his father's tattoo and a reminder of what he had to fight against. Helena was disappointed because she would miss his "malicious malevolence." Luke assured her that he could easily unleash it if necessary, especially for his family. Luke cut to the chase by demanding answers about Jake. He threatened to beat it out of her if he had to, but Helena was no longer thrilled by the sight of Luke with a gun as she had once been.
Surprised, Luke thought that Helena seemed almost "human." Helena blamed it on Nikolas picking up the gauntlet and stripping her of power. She beamed with joy as she confessed that she was proud of her grandson. Helena then shifted gears to confess that she sensed it would be the last time she and Luke would see each other, so they had one last loose end to tie up. Helena agreed to give him a parting gift by providing him with the answer for the years of suffering he had endured.
Later, Luke appeared shocked by what Helena had revealed. "Son of a bitch," he said. Helena smiled with smug satisfaction as she explained that Elizabeth's middle child had been the perfect vehicle to inflict something with "enduring consequences." Luke demanded proof of Helena's claims just as a remote toy truck rolled up and hit his shoes. Luke was shocked when he saw Elizabeth's son, Jake, standing at the front door.
Jake entered the house and continued to play with the remote truck as Helena chuckled. She thought it had been fitting that Jake had struck Luke with the truck just as Luke had struck Jake with a car. Helena decided to give Luke and Jake an opportunity to get reacquainted, but first she thanked Luke for all the years of passion Luke had given her. She kissed him softly on the lips then left. Moments later, Jake approached Luke.
"My name's Jake. What's yours?" Jake asked as Luke slowly smiled.
7/10 On Cassadine Island, off the coast of Greece, Luke stared at young Jake for several heartbeats then introduced himself to the boy. Luke was curious if Jake had recognized Luke's name, but before Jake could answer, Laura appeared in the doorway to tell Luke that she hadn't found their grandson. "I think I found him," Luke said with a grin. Jake turned to look at Laura, who instantly recognized the young boy. Laura carefully approached Jake to greet him, but he turned away to play with his remote-controlled truck.
Laura immediately questioned Luke about Jake's appearance, so Luke revealed that Helena had been spewing her usual "Cassadine crap" when Jake had suddenly entered the room. Helena had left Luke and Jake alone to get reacquainted, but Laura wondered if the young boy was truly Jake. Luke suggested they let Lucky decide as Lucky entered the house. Lucky froze when he saw Jake seated in a chair, playing with the truck.
Stunned, Lucky slowly knelt down to study Jake and introduce himself. Jake didn't appear to recognize Lucky, so Jake took off to play with his toy. "It's him," Lucky confirmed as he turned to his parents. Lucky assured Luke and Laura that he would recognize Jake anywhere because he looked exactly as Lucky had pictured, except older. Luke and Laura hugged their son then watched as Lucky called Jake over to explain that he was Jake's father. Jake showed little reaction to the news except to smile politely at Lucky.
Lucky gave Jake his cell phone to keep Jake occupied with video games, while Lucky questioned Luke about Jake's obvious abduction. Luke revealed that Jake had been living on the other side of the island with a governess and housekeeper, so Lucky questioned if Nikolas had known. Laura staunchly defended her eldest child because she refused to believe that Nikolas would keep such a terrible secret from everyone. Lucky was curious how Helena had managed to abduct Jake, prompting Laura to wonder if the car accident had even happened. Luke's expression saddened as he admitted that he had struck Jake with a car.
Luke explained that Helena had been in Port Charles at the time of the accident to tamper with Aiden's paternity tests, so she had decided to take advantage of the tragedy by sending one of her "winged monkeys" to snatch Jake. Lucky had more questions, but Luke reminded him the important thing was that Jake was alive and well. Laura was thrilled for Lucky, so Lucky decided to call Elizabeth to share the good news. Laura stopped Lucky from making the call because she explained that it was the kind of news that a mother would need to hear in person, since Elizabeth would want to be reunited with her son right away.
Luke and Lucky agreed, so Luke suggested they leave. Laura asked Luke and Lucky to wait. She reminded them that Jake had spent the past five years on the island, so they needed to be careful not to overwhelm the child. Laura asked to have some time alone with her grandson to prepare him for the trip. Lucky nodded, so Laura approached Jake. She told the boy that she had once lived on the island, but she couldn't remember all the interesting places. Jake offered to take her on a tour.
After Laura and Jake left, Luke and Lucky decided to catch up with each other and talk about the past. Luke told Lucky about Tim and Lena Spencer's deaths, but Lucky didn't blame his father for killing Tim. Lucky felt bad that Luke hadn't been blessed with a father like Luke. Luke appreciated the compliment, but suggested it had been an exaggeration. Lucky disagreed because Luke could have easily turned out like Tim. Luke admitted that he had a dark side, but Lucky argued that everyone battled personal demons.
Lucky insisted that Luke had taught Lucky to be the man Lucky was without talking down to Lucky as a child. More importantly, Luke had never given up on his son, even when Lucky had pushed Luke away. Luke confessed that he had once heard that a person got the life they deserved, but Luke believed that a person got the life they chose based on all the good and bad decisions they made. Luke admitted that the happiest choices he had made were a result of loving Laura and raising Lucky.
Luke confided that Lucky was the pride of Luke's life because Lucky was a brilliant man. Lucky reminded his father that they had been somewhat estranged for the past four years, but Luke argued that it was a person's imperfections that made them interesting. However, Luke advised his son not to run from problems because they would eventually catch up with him.
Moments later, Laura returned with Jake to announce they were ready to depart. Lucky told Jake that they wanted to take Jake home because Jake had aunts, uncles, brothers, and a mother waiting for him. Jake explained that he didn't have a mother, but Lucky quietly explained that Jake's mother's name was Elizabeth, and she loved Jake very much.
Later, Lucky stood at the bottom of Elizabeth's porch. He saw her seated at the dining room table but didn't approach the door. Moments later, Luke and Jake walked up. Lucky wondered if it might be best for Laura to break the news to Elizabeth, but Luke reminded him that Laura had gone to Wyndemere to talk to Nikolas. Lucky had no idea what to say, but Luke was certain Lucky would find the words once Lucky looked into Elizabeth's eyes.
After Luke and Jake went to the side yard, Lucky approached the door and knocked. Elizabeth was surprised when she saw Lucky standing on her doorstep.
7/13 Lucky stood outside Elizabeth's home. Luke and Jake walked around the side of the house as Lucky knocked on the door. A shocked Elizabeth answered the door and immediately embraced him. He followed Elizabeth into the house, and she wondered what had happened to him. He summarized that he'd been kidnapped, and that Luke, Laura, and Lulu had saved him, but it was too long of a story.
Elizabeth knew that Aiden would be excited to see Lucky, so she ran upstairs and got their son. Aiden ran right over to Lucky, who apologized for missing so many Skype calls. Aiden replied that it was all right, because he'd had fun with Jake, "Mommy's friend." A confused Lucky looked to Elizabeth for answers.
A short while later, Lucky returned downstairs after putting Aiden back to bed. Elizabeth informed Lucky that Jake was the man she'd been seeing. "Another Jake?" Lucky asked. Speaking of Jake, Elizabeth told Lucky that their son Jake's kidney had helped Josslyn be cancer-free for five years. Lucky was happy for Josslyn and Carly, but he replied that "Jake didn't save Josslyn."
Elizabeth didn't think Lucky was making sense, and she responded that saving Josslyn's life was the only way she'd been able to survive without her son. "Jake's alive," Lucky divulged. He continued that Helena had taken Jake and had been hiding him on Cassadine Island. "I brought him here," he added. Lucky went outside to retrieve Luke and Jake. "This is your son," Luke told a tearful Elizabeth.
Luke introduced Jake to the mother he didn't remember. Elizabeth kneeled at Jake's level and expressed how much she'd missed him. Luke asked if Jake would watch over his mother. "I will, I promise," he said. She asked Jake if she could hug him, and he nodded. Crying, she took him in her arms.
"Are you sad?" he asked, noticing her crying. She admitted that she was "the happiest I've ever been."
Luke pointed out some toys across the room to Jake so that Elizabeth could get some air. Outside, Elizabeth confided in Lucky that she felt like she was in a dream. "We got our son back, in one piece," Lucky told her with misty eyes. After a comforting embrace, she admitted that she wanted to hold on to Jake and never let him go. They went back into the house and found Luke and Jake playing together.
Elizabeth wondered if Jake was hungry. Lucky took Jake into the kitchen for a snack. Elizabeth thanked Luke for returning her son. He responded that seeing Elizabeth and Jake together was "worth whatever it took to bring him back." He praised her resilience and advised her not to question her happiness, because second chances were rare.
When Lucky and Jake returned with snacks, Luke excused himself. He needed to find Tracy and tell her the truth. Elizabeth wished him luck, and Lucky walked Luke out. When they were outside, Luke bluntly asked Lucky what he was afraid of. Lucky fearfully told Luke that he felt the "darkness" inside himself fighting to get out. Luke assured Lucky that Lucky was the bravest, most honorable man Luke had ever known. He advised his son to be honest with himself and to believe in himself, "like I do."
Luke continued that Lucky needed to "face the demon" head on, even though it would be easier said than done. The two men exchanged "I love you's" and a hug. Luke instructed Lucky to let him know as soon as he was "weary from battle," and Luke promised to be there. "Next time, I'll rescue you instead," Lucky said. "You already have," Luke replied, and he left.
At Elizabeth's, Jake was on the computer as Elizabeth asked Lucky how she was supposed to explain the situation to everyone. He knew that she would know exactly what to say. She wondered what his plans for the night were. He wanted to go see Laura, but he wasn't sure about after that. She asked him to check in with her, and he promised he would.
Lucky thought that everything was "finally right." He thought that his and Elizabeth's boys were lucky to have her. He hugged Jake goodbye. In front of the front door, he promised her that "this isn't goodbye." "I know," she replied, and he left. She returned to Jake and asked to play with him. She wondered which toy was his favorite, and he pulled out the motorcycle. She remembered how it had always been his favorite. Just then, Jake returned home, puzzled to see the little boy with Elizabeth.
Nikolas looked at Hayden's license but quickly put it back into the safe when Laura entered. He thought congratulations were in order for her and Luke, but Laura immediately set him straight on where she and Luke had actually gone. She concluded with the news that Jake was actually alive and back in Port Charles. She added that it was a shame that Jason hadn't lived long enough to reunite with his son. Laura demanded that Nikolas "stop brooding," because all of the news she'd given him had been happy. He remarked that he was thinking about Jason.
"It is what it is, right?" she commented.
"Wrong," Nikolas stated. As she wondered what he meant, Lucky entered.
7/14 Luke bumped into Dillon in the Quartermaine mansion. He wondered if Dillon had seen Tracy. Dillon scolded Luke for not talking to Tracy sooner. Luke explained to Dillon about finding Jake alive. Luke headed up the stairs to find Tracy. He knocked on her door and announced himself. When there was no answer, he warned Tracy that he was entering the room. When he walked in, he was shocked to find Tracy and Paul in bed together.
Tracy yelled at Luke to leave the room. "You moved on, why wouldn't I?" she added. Luke insisted that he hadn't moved on. He told Paul to leave, and Tracy thought it would be better if Paul left, so he did. Luke told Tracy that his and Laura's reunion had been a lie, and he briefly explained what had happened. He continued that she was the only person he was interested in. He knew he was responsible for Tracy jumping into bed with Paul, but he wanted to move past it.
Tracy wanted to know why Luke hadn't told her the truth in the first place. He replied that he'd been specifically told to keep Tracy in the dark. She accused him of trusting Dillon more than her. She said that he'd made his decision to leave her behind because he didn't see her as his equal. "You blew it," she told him. She demanded that he leave. He hoped that she would see things differently the next morning and assured her that he wasn't giving up on her. He left, and she watched him leave before slamming the door behind him.
Laura told Nikolas the "happy news" about Jake and ordered him to "stop brooding." Nikolas explained that he was down about Jason not being around for Jake's return. "Well, that's the way it is, right?" Laura said. "Wrong," Nikolas responded. Before he could respond to Laura's question about his meaning, Lucky entered. Laura was surprised that Lucky hadn't stayed with Elizabeth and Jake, but Lucky hadn't wanted to intrude on Elizabeth's time reconnecting with her son. Laura hoped to give her sons the same opportunity to reconnect, and she left.
Nikolas expressed how happy he was that Jake was alive. He insisted to Lucky that he'd had no idea that Jake had been there. Lucky believed it, because "it wouldn't be the first time Helena blindsided you." He knew that Nikolas would never keep a secret like that from his family. Nikolas wondered how Lucky was holding up. Lucky replied that he was overwhelmed to be back in the town that had broken him years before. He'd been traveling all over, trying to figure out who he was, and he didn't think he could be with his kids until he became a person to be proud of.
Lucky continued that the "old Lucky" was no longer there, but Nikolas replied that, "I know he is." Lucky likened himself to Luke, a "great dad" when not near his children. Nikolas insisted that Lucky was nothing like Luke. Lucky thought his children were better off with Elizabeth, even if her boyfriend was a stranger. Nikolas slipped that Jake wasn't a stranger. After pestering Nikolas over and over to talk, Nikolas blurted out that "the man Elizabeth is seeing is Jason."
Nikolas quickly explained the situation to Lucky and added that he, Lucky, Helena, and Elizabeth were the only ones who knew. Lucky was shocked that Elizabeth had a part in keeping Jason from his family. Nikolas reasoned that Sam was with Patrick, and the rest of Jason's family and friends had mourned and moved on. Nikolas had told Lucky because he wanted Lucky to feel all right about leaving his kids if he so chose. Lucky countered that Jason had a right to his own life. He didn't want to keep the secret just because it was convenient for him.
Lucky wondered if he wasn't supposed to worry about his sons, since they "have another dad." He pondered what would happen if Jason suddenly remembered his life. Nikolas had told Lucky because he trusted his brother. He said that, if Lucky decided to leave, his boys would have Jason. If he stayed, Lucky's boys would have him.
A short while later, Laura returned and wondered where Lucky had gone. "He left," Nikolas said simply. She wondered how their conversation had gone. He assured his mother that he and Lucky hadn't fought. She'd noticed that there was a lot that Lucky wasn't saying, and she hoped that he'd confided in Nikolas. Nikolas only told her they'd been honest with each other, and whatever Lucky chose to do was all right.
Jake arrived at Elizabeth's and stopped in his tracks when he saw a little boy. "This is my son," she said happily. Jake pulled her aside, wondering how the boy was alive. She briefly explained it to him, and he made sure she was doing all right. "I've never been happier," she gushed. She led Jake to her son and introduced her two guys, both named Jake. Jake played with the boy with the toy motorcycles. Just then, he had a flash of a memory of himself walking into Elizabeth's house, which had been strewn with toys, and he'd picked up the toy motorcycle.
Jake got up and started to tell Elizabeth about the flash of memory he'd had, but he thought better of it. He expressed how happy he was for Elizabeth, and he returned to playing with Jake. Elizabeth announced that she had something to tell Jake, and both guys turned. Just then, Elizabeth's son said that he was tired. Elizabeth understood and told him he would have a "big day" the next day, because a lot of people would want to see him. She took her son upstairs to get him ready for bed.
A short while later, Jake and Elizabeth returned downstairs because Jake had wanted to say goodnight to his mother's boyfriend. Jake shook the boy's hand theatrically and said that he was happy to have met the boy. He handed Jake the toy motorcycle and suggested that little Jake could see Jake's motorcycle. Jake told Elizabeth he would stay at his own place to give Elizabeth and her son time to reconnect. Elizabeth wanted Jake to stay, so he agreed.
Jake asked to help put Elizabeth's son to bed, and she happily agreed. She announced that it was bedtime. Jake asked the boy if it was all right for Jake to help tuck him in. As the three enjoyed their last moments together before bed, Lucky arrived at the house. As he was about to knock on the door, he heard laughter from inside. He looked in the house and saw the fun the three were having, and they looked like a family.
Jake, Elizabeth, and Jake were about to head upstairs when Elizabeth remembered the toy motorcycle. She handed it to her son, who replied, "Thanks, mom." She smiled widely and tearfully, and the three headed upstairs. Lucky walked away sadly.
7/20 At the Haunted Star, Luke caught Lulu up on what had happened between him and Tracy. Lulu was shocked that Tracy had not been understanding. Lulu recognized that it was because of Luke's lies. "Just ask Dante," she related. She updated Luke on all that had happened when she'd returned home to Dante. "It was grand for everyone involved," Luke sarcastically observed.
Lulu told Luke about how her feelings about Valerie went from one extreme to the next every minute. She didn't want to hate Valerie, and she wanted to hear Valerie's side of the story. Luke hoped everything worked out for her and Dante, and Lulu wished Luke luck with Tracy. Lulu hugged her father and left. Luke pulled up his sleeve and looked at his tattoo. Just then, Tracy entered.
Laura arrived at Wyndemere and gushed to Nikolas about how much fun she'd had with Spencer. She hoped Lucky would join them for breakfast, but Nikolas informed her that Lucky had left. She wished he would return to Port Charles permanently, especially to help Jake get settled in. Nikolas was sure that Lucky had been confident about his children being in good hands.
Laura commented on the recent business decisions Nikolas had made, and he insisted that taking over ELQ had been "just business." She promised not to tell him how to live his life, but she wished he'd had better timing, since Tracy probably already "wants my head on a platter." Nikolas admitted that he hadn't wanted a reunion between Luke and Laura, and he hoped Luke and Tracy could work things out. Laura agreed.
Nikolas wondered if Laura had anyone special in her life. She told him she'd been on a few dates but hadn't had anything serious. She wondered the same about him. He responded in the same fashion. Laura wondered if it would be "cramping your style" if she stayed with him for a while. He offered up a guest room for as long as she wanted to stay. He was happy to have her.
Just then, Elizabeth arrived with Jake in tow. Nikolas introduced himself to the boy as his uncle. He told Jake how excited Spencer would be to have a cousin his age to "cause lots of trouble" with. Elizabeth shared the good news about Jake's checkup. Laura offered Jake some cookies and took him into the kitchen to get some.
Elizabeth wondered if Lucky was still at Wyndemere and wasn't surprised when Nikolas confirmed that Lucky had left. Nikolas told her that Lucky knew things would be taken care of in his absence. Clearly nervous, Elizabeth asked what that meant. Laura returned to the hall outside the living room to retrieve a toy when she heard Nikolas admit that he had "told Lucky that Jake is Jason.”
