Just Jason #6  October 3, 1997 - January 13, 1998 - 8 hour original edit

Jason, dining, took a phone call from Emily, who was reporting on Brenda's day. At that time, Brenda and Jax were walking into the restaurant, Brenda marched up to Jason and demanded he hand her the phone. She pitched a fit and grabbed his phone, thinking he was talking to Sonny and then she apologized to Emily and ran out.

Luke finds out that he is now partners with Jason for an indefintie period of time.  Jason tells Luke that Sonny is not coming back.  Jason tries to talk about the club but Luke asks when the mob will figure out that Jason is in charge and what kind of mess will be the result. Jason says there is no way to tell but he'll do whatever it takes not to let Sonny down. Jason asks Luke if he wants him out of the club.  He will sell the shares if Luke wants him to. Luke says he can't afford to buy Sonny out right now.  Luke expects that Jason will be fighting for his life soon, Sonny was a good teacher but Jason only has two years  of training and upper state NY is a very lucrative territory.  Everyone will be coming after Jason, and even if Jason makes it through the next six months there will bodies.  Luke is willing to help Jason but he won't be a foot soldier in Jason's first war.  Jason, seeing a strange man at the door of the Outback, suggests that Luke leave now. Luke  and Jason discuss the guy at the door who has been tailing Jason.  Luke offers back up and goes to the bar to get a drink. The stranger identifies himself as an associate of Reese's and asks where Sonny is, Jason says as far as he is concerned he 'is' Sonny and that the syndicate should drop the contract since Rivera is dead.  If not Jason will be sending Caulfield, Reese and all their friends back in bags.  Caulfield doesn't react and one of Jason's henchmen escorts him out.  Alan has just come in and watches this fascinating bit of byplay. Jason tells Luke about the contract out on Sonny, they discuss Bren. and her safety which Luke could care less about.  Jason says he is protecting Bren. on the sly for Sonny.  He admits that things are going to get messy but says he'll do his best to keep it away from the club. Jason says he'll listen to Luke's advice but that is all he wants from Luke.  Luke tells him to do what he needs to do to stay alive and they are both satisfied with each other.

Alan asks Jason who the strange guy was and Jason is silent.  Alan demands a response loudly.  AJ comes over and tries to hush him but Alan rants on.  Monica tries to stop him, Alan yells "he has a gun" and tells everyone in the resturant that Jason pulled a gun on him. Jason plans to meet Luke later at the club to go over the books and leaves. Jason gives Mike a picture of Sonny.  He doesn't understand why pictures are important. He does keep one thing of Robin's. Jason doesn't like pictures, though, they are flat.  He tells Mike that Sonny took Mike's platter.  They discuss why Jason won't tell where Sonny is.  Mike asks why Sonny would leave Jason to die for him. Jason tells Mike that fathers love their sons into boxes.

Jason arrived on Brenda's doorstep and forced himself inside. They stood toe-to-toe and finally verbally duked it out. She found the chink in his armor (Robin leaving him) and hacked away until his facade cracked.  He admitted that it's been torture for him since Robin dumped him. Brenda warned him to stay away from her or she'd call the police. Outside on the porch, Jason phoned some goons who were watching Brenda. He warned them not to let her see them. Jason went to the bar to ask Mike to talk some sense into Brenda about having bodyguards.  They discussed Sonny and the guys bonded over how much they miss Sonny (it was a sweet moment).  Mike tried to explain why Brenda was so angry to Jason.  Mike  told Jason that she needed someone to blame for the pain that Sonny had  caused her.  And Sonny wasn't here, so she has to blame Jason.

Jason gives his bodyguards the night off and settles into the penthouse alone. A mature looking Robin enters her room and sits down to write a letter to the mobster she left behind. In it, she expresses a wish to be back in Port Charles, then imagines reuniting with Jason, on the bridge. He tells her he knew she was lying when she encouraged him to get on with his life and not wait around for her return. They hop on his motorbike. After writing another passage, Robin's imagination flew away to Mac. She visited him as he was shutting down the Outback, and expressed doubts that Paris wasn't all it's cracked up to be. Mac told her she should come home if that's what she wants, and that she shouldn't stay in gay Paree just t please him. What he wasn't hot about was the idea of Robin getting back with Jason, and questioned Jason's worthiness. Jason appeared and Mac grilled him, but eventually gave in and told Robin he'd accept Jason if he had to.

As the fantasy sequence continues, Robin leads Jason to the Qs for Thanksgiving. They argued like an old married couple for a minute, then were greeted by Lila and Emily. Then Edward blustered in and Robin imagined  a real Q fest almost perfectly completely with the normal family fireworks included. Eventually, she imagined them back on the bridge, where Jason told he he quit and was now out of the organization. She vowed to never leave him again. In the closing music montage, Stefan lurked outside Serenity, Jax and Brenda returned from the grocery store and did some food-prep; Jason turned the lights out and went out to his balcony, and Robin made coffee and went to look out her own window.

In the next Thanksgiving show, Jason is at the Penthouse having a traditional Q Thanksgiving meal, pizza, when Emily comes in.  He's having his mail forwarded from "that woman at Jake's"  and he's gotten two sweepstakes offers and a thing for Princess Diana collector plates.  Emily gets right to the point, "As long as you're eating pizza, why don't you have Thanksgiving with us?"

Meanwhile over at the Q's, Reginald comes in with three "Pilgrims with pizza".  Raoul barks.  The family discusses the masks, then the Pilgrims pull guns. Edward argues, as the family empties their pockets. The haul is disgustingly small, only $64 and change.  "Don't you people carry wallets?"  "In my own home?" blusters Edward.  Monica says it ruins the line of his pants.  A.J. asks for his wallet back, and Justus gets his driver's license back, and Monica goes for her contacts, and Keesha is surprised she wears them.  Ned rescues his cell phone, and Edward goes to retrieve his gold pens, "they're not really of much value."  Lila erupts, "I BEG your pardon! That's solid gold!" They all discuss this. Alexis says while she's not really familiar with the protocol, she suggests they take the armed robbery seriously.  Robber #1 says, "We can't go back with $64!"  Alan agrees that the Quartermaines would be laughingstocks if that got out.  Lila tells a robber that his mother should have taught him better than to manhandle an old lady in a wheelchair. The bad guys dither. Lila says it's all most upsetting.  A.J. assures her that "they don't want to hurt anyone. Do you?" Lila says "No, these gentlemen don't seem to have any idea what they're supposed to do!"  She points out the silver. She tells them to pack up the silver and leave.  Then Alan suggests they take an ugly vase.  The Quartermaines try to get rid of other stuff. Meanwhile, Edward writes a note for Annabelle to take to Foster.

Jason shows Emily the cooked turkey he plans to use for sandwiches.  She says that's proof he's not a Quartermaine, "no Quartermaine has ever come that close to a fully cooked turkey on Thanksgiving."  She leaves.  The phone rings.  Jason remembers Robin saying how sorry she feels for the Quartermaines and how he's supposed to take care of Jason Quartermaine's family.

Ned hands over a mantel clock.  Alan looks at a kaleidoscope, but Monica reminds him that Emily's fond of it, so the robbers can't have it.  Emily comes in.  She's really surprised that they're getting robbed by Pilgrims.  They'll be in big trouble when her brother Jason hears about this.  She mentions Sonny's name.  The Quartermaines are interested to hear that Jason lives in the penthouse now, but the robbers are more concerned about the dreaded name "Jason Morgan."  Jason comes in with Pete and the turkey.  The robbers rush out, leaving everything and knocking the turkey to the ground.  They leave a note from Tracy, who has planned this robbery. Raoul comes in with pizza all over his face.  They order Chinese takeout and sing their song.

Concerned to learn that Jason still has bodyguards shadowing Brenda around the clock, Luke warns theyoung man he'll need all his forces for his own protection when Moreno finally makes his move. Waving off his partner's fears, Jason lays out his plan to bolster his reputation in the underworld by spreading the word that he bumped Sonny off. Luke quizzed Jason about why he is having Brenda watched all the time.  Jason explained that if anything happened to Brenda it would probably flush Sonny out of hiding. Right now, he said, it looks like Sonny is still running the show. Luke asked him to please not bring mob violence into his nightclub.

The music starts, and people begin to whoop it up.  Luke starts to shimmy and play a little air guitar as the band plays behind him. Jason strides purposefully toward the far side of the room, and Jax stands up, drink still in hand, stopping him in his tracks.  "Back room open?"  He asks, as Jason stares back blankly.  "Oh come on Jason, don't look at me any dumber than you have to.  Sonny used to be Luke's silent partner, I'm sure you've taken that over too, along with his limos, his bodyguards." Jason approaches Luke about opening up the back room. After giving Dara a quick nod and a smile, Luke suggests they continue the conversation outside.  Nikolas standing outside the club, near the front door, waiting for Sarah.  Jason's bodyguards are nearby, one to the right of the doors, the other to the right, in front of the fence.  Luke lights up a cigar and tells Jason he's not going to take the risk of opening the back room for small change.  Jason points out that there are a few high rollers in attendance, adding that it would be a pleasure to see Luke empty Jax's wallet.  We see the glare of headlights coming towards the group, and there is a sudden barrage of bullets from the parking lot.  Jason and Luke recoil, while the bodyguards take aim and return fire.  Pete goes down, taking a fatal blow.  Inside the club, everyone takes cover.  The neon sign outside that says "Luke's" is blown out.  We then see Jax, his arms wrapped protectively around Brenda, crouched down, a look of terror in their eyes.  The band members go down, and as the firing continues, Nikolas lies on the ground, unmoving. There is a squeal of tires as the car races off.

Luke and Jason approach Nikolas who has been shot, and is bleeding from the neck. There is blood oozing from his neck as Jason holds a cloth to Nik's throat.  The young Cassadine is choking on his own blood, gasping for air, it's a sickening sound. Jason is kneels over Pete's dead body, and orders Renaldo (the other bodyguard) to find the shooters in the getaway car. Nik has taken a bullet in the throat, and Jason says they need to get it out or Nik will suffocate from the blood.  He asks for something hollow like a pen.  Nik is suffering, grabbing at Jason's bloodstained shirt, while Mike and Luke try to steady him.  Luke asks Jason if he thinks the assailants were a carload of joyriders.  Morgan is certain they were looking for him.  Lucky returns with a pen.  Mike orders everyone back, as Luke sterilizes Jason's switchblade with the flame from his lighter.  Jason is assuring the victim that it will be okay, while Luke takes hold of Nik's head and tells him to keep his eyes focused on Luke.  Liz, Sarah, Mike and Alan look on in stunned silence, as Jason prepares to perform a tracheotomy. Jason and Luke are waiting to see if the procedure has been successful. After a few long moments, Nikolas begins to breathe on his own.  Everyone seems relieved, and Sarah rushes to his side.

Monica arrives, and Jason asks her to check his work to see if he "did it right".  He tells her that Pete has been killed.  Nik is taken into the ambulance by the paramedics. Jason is questioned by the detectives, who think that someone was trying to teach Jason a lesson.  They want to know what has happened to Sonny.  When Dara comments that they are not getting anywhere, Taggert suggests a trip downtown to the station. Jason is asks to be let go if the detectives cannot give a reason for holding him.  Edward tries to get Justus to represent Jason, but he will have no part of it.  Jason wants nothing to do with any of them.  Taggert suggests "assault with a deadly weapon", since Nikolas could die from the "butcher job he did on the Cassadine kid with a switchblade". Garcia is reading Jason his rights.  Justus is not impressed with the charge, and tells Dara that he thought there were lines she wouldn't cross.  "The lines keep moving," she responds. Emily is loudly defending Jason, reminding everyone that he kept Nik alive until the ambulance came, saying it's not fair. Garcia allows Jason a few moments with Emily, and he assures her that things will be okay.  He tells her that everyone is just doing their job, and she should go home.  As they are headed out, Emily yells that all of them are liars, and that Jason did nothing wrong.

Jax and Brenda are standing outside the club when the officers bring Jason out and put him in the squad car.  Brenda lifts up the police tape and marches over to Jason.  "I just wanted to say congratulations to you because I guess you're not Sonny's second anymore, are you?  I mean, you don't have to worry about getting caught in the line of fire, do you, because you are the line of fire now.  Right Jason?"  Her voice is getting higher and higher as she becomes more and more hysterical.  "People are getting killed because of you. Isn't that great?  I mean isn't this a great life you have?  I mean aren't you really happy about it?" She keeps screaming at him, demanding an answer, giving him a shove.  She continues to pummel Jason, climbing on top of him in the back seat, as Jax comes up behind her and pulls her back, restraining her. "Come on," he says, pulling her away from the car.  "Let him go to jail."   She struggles with him, and finally tells Jax to let go of her.

At the police station, Taggert and Garcia roughly interrogate Jason until Dara reminds the detectives to stop stepping on their suspect's constitutional rights. Justus arrives to offer his legal services to his cousin, who stands mute as the attorney declares that the charges against him are trumped up and totally bogus.  Carly arrives and causes a scene at the precinct house as she shrilly accuses the police of persecuting Jason. Jason is finally released and heads to Paris to check on Robin's safety. Jason has his people tighten the web of security around Robin but takes pains to prevent her from seeing him. Robin catches a glimpse of a familiar face as she leaves her favorite bistro. When Robin calls out his name, Jason forgets his resolve to remain in the shadows and runs forward to embrace her. Jason tells Robin about the attack at Luke's club. Robin convinces Jason to change his travel plans and stay in Paris an extra day. After giving him the grand tour of the city, Robin confides to Jason how sharing Paris with him has been a dream come true. Jason admits to Robin how much he misses Sonny. Dismayed to hear that both Joseph and Pete have been killed in recent attacks, Robin bitterly reminds Jason that Sonny left him nothing but a legacy of certain death. Though a weeping Robin begs him to stay with her, Jason boards the next flight back to Port Charles.

Jason returns to Port Charles and faces an irate Luke, who reminds his partner that no violence was ever supposed to touch the blues club. Certain Valentine ratted him out to Marino, Jason promises Luke he and his family will be in no further danger.  Carly snoops through a packet from Alexis and is devastated to discover that Tony has filed for sole custody of her unborn child.  Tony tells Carly he's leaving her because he can't tolerate any more of her lies. Hurt and angry, Carly informs Tony he has no claim on her baby because Jason is the man who impregnated her. Carly bitterly informs Tony that he has no biological claim on her unborn child because she was impregnated during a lusty liaison with Jason which has been going on since the first day she hit town. Unable to believe her wild tale, Tony accuses Carly of sinking to incredible depths in her capacity for telling lies. Taunting Tony with stories of Jason's sexual prowess, Carly continues to embroider on her lie by claiming that she and her lover have been laughing at him behind his back for months on end.  Brenda becomes hysterical during the photo shoot and smashes up the set, then wields a tripod as a weapon when the astonished photographers try to approach her.

Jason's associates pledge him their full support after he announces that Sonny is no longer a factor in the organization. Jason ushers a wet and weeping Carly past his mob associates and tells her to wait in another room while he finishes his business. In a major foreshadowing moment, Benny (a mob guy) says that he liked Sonny and all, but that he let Brenda get in the way of his running the organization and that he was certain that Jason would never do such a thing. The Mob Guys leave and Jason calls Carly back into the room. Then she proceeds to tell him everything, that she is Bobbie's daughter, she only went after Tony to get to her (but later, fell in love with him), her real name is Caroline Benson, the whole saga of the last two years comes tumbling out in a ten-minute exposition. Then she says that Tony might not be the father of her baby, because she slept with another man after she had a fight with Tony. Jason guesses that the other potential father is AJ. Carly asks him how he knew? Jason reminds her that they used his bed, and that AJ was hung-over and forgetful the next day, while Carly was lying about something. Carly asks why Jason didn't say anything, and Jason replies, "When you know people had sex, is there a particular comment you're supposed to make?" and then adds later that it would've been nice if they'd made the bed (and washed the sheets).

Carly, on a truth roll, then admits to drugging AJ. Jason interjects, "Because he didn't want to have sex?" Carly responds "of course not!" and launches into that whole sordid tale, and at some point, also tells him that she told Tony that Jason was really the father. Jason is impressed by her lying skills, but states for the record that he won't lie directly to anyone about the paternity of Carly's baby. But he won't deny it, either. Carly says that's good enough for her. She just wants to buy time until the baby's born. Jason offers her a place to stay, and then warns her of the possible danger of associating with him. Carly accepts the room and the situation. Jason then observes that Carly never seems to be able to get away with anything, but he likes the fact that she keeps trying. He supports her fight to keep the baby, and doesn't know why AJ and Tony are putting up such a fuss, "They already got to have sex with you, what more do they want?" As a parting shot, Jason reiterates the deal, Carly does all the lying, and he does no denying

Alan walks in on Tony smashing Carly's picture and knows there's something wrong. Tony tells Alan about the breakup and how he hasn't loved Carly for months, and that he was just playing along for the baby's sake. Alan points out (quite astutely) that that makes Tony a liar, too. Then, Tony tells him about Carly's latest lie, that Jason is the father of her baby unless Alan thinks Carly is telling the truth. Alan says he wouldn't know anything about Jason's private life, but Tony continues to press him. He asks about Jason and Robin, and Alan replies that Jason had asked him about HIV and sex, causing an already-pale Tony to look pretty scared. Tony wonders if he should have an HIV test. Alan asks Tony why he would be concerned about HIV if he knows Carly is lying and Tony admits that he's not sure if Carly is lying. Alan tells him about the negative covert/illegal HIV test he ran on Jason after Jason was shot. This seems to put Tony somewhat at ease. Tony asks Alan not to tell anyone. Alan insists that his family know about this, since this could involve a potential grandchild.

At the Quartermaine mansion, Alan announces to his astonished family that Jason is about to become a father. Most were either taken aback or skeptical, as Alan's info came from Tony and not the horse's mouth. Justus and Monica dissed Carly as a liar, Emily wasn't buying for a second that Jason was unfaithful to Robin, Ned felt it changed nothing. Edward was...Edward. Alan was under the illusion that the baby would bring Jason into the family fold. Edward's snarks, "Just what we need: a baby hitman in the family." After hearing that Carly claims to be carrying Jason's child, Monica adamantly declares that the deceitful young woman is lying through her teeth.

Jax pounded on Jason's door to give him hell and responsibility for Brenda's breakdown. A seething Jax accuses Jason of driving Brenda mad in order to kill her by degrees. Jason was his usual stoical self, while Jax threatened that Sonny would be a dead man if he came back to PC. As Jax became physically threatening, Carly intervened and Jax went on his way. Next, Mike went to see Jason in an attempt to convince him to get Sonny back to PC, out of concern for Brenda. He pulled out all the major guilt cards, but with no effect.  Carly overheard some of this and tried to provide Jason moral support, noting that they were both scapegoats. Jason reminds Carly she'll have to find a new place to stay if his enemies make another attempt on his life.

Jason is going over some paperwork and Carly comes down. She asks if she is in danger, and he says yes. She has to move out after the baby comes. She says she needs to be around him because he knows her and still accepts her. Carly offers to help with the accounting. Tony comes in and asks Jason if he is the father? He orders Carly out and demands that she return to the apartment to keep his baby safe until it is born. He tries to throw his weight around. Jason declares that this is Carly's baby! He also is still annoyed that Tony said he was too dumb to take care of himself. After Tony sputters out, Jason says to Carly, "Tony seems kind of boring." He would have thought Carly would have gotten tired of Tony. Carly says Jason is her best friend. Alan pops up to A.J. and asks,  "You knew all along, right?" He tells A.J. that Tony and Carly have split up and that Jason is the baby's father. A.J. asks what Jason has to say about it? A.J. advises his father not to swallow any story that a psycho like Carly dishes out.

At the Penthouse, the henchman starts off to get Carly's stuff and AJ comes in to see Jason. "I'll wait." AJ and Carly argue over the baby. At the penthouse, an incensed A.J. reminds Carly he can prove that she's lying about her child's paternity by simply asking his brother for the truth. Carly informs A.J. that she and Jason began a sexual relationship shortly after she first hit town. She says Jason knows everything including how she drugged AJ, but he doesn't care. Jason arrives and asks what AJ is doing there? AJ tells him when the baby is born if it's his, he'll sue for custody.

#6B AJ tries to get Jason to turn against Carly with his tale of how she mistreated him, but Jason says while he doesn't agree with the stupid and desperate things Carly did to AJ, they are in the past. As far as he's concerned, it's Carly's baby, and he's going to help her. After Jason confirms that he has in fact slept with Carly, an outraged A.J. accuses his brother of being too cold and heartless to care about anyone's feelings. A.J. vows not to let Jason anywhere near Carly's baby even if he does turn out to be the child's biological father. Jason explains his philosophy on child-rearing and reminds A.J. that the Quartermaines aren't exactly great role models when it comes to parenting skills. After AJ leaves, Carly is relieved that Jason covered for her. She is overwhelmed by the idea of AJ and Tony teaming up against her to take away her baby. Jason doesn't want to see that happen and tells her to fight and not give up. He promises her that she will have the best lawyers and that her past actions will be hard to prove as there will be no proof, no evidence of her misdeeds. Jason and Carly relax and play pool and she seems more relax and happy than she has in a long time.

At Jason's, Carly noted that the place could use a little holiday cheer, as well as real food. Jason told her where to find some cash. As he was getting ready to leave, Carly felt a small twinge and wrote it off to impending motherhood. She calls the baby a girl and says she hasn't been able to enjoy her baby or motherhood before this, she always felt like she was about to fall off a cliff. Carly and Jason ran into each other outside the hospital and she invited herself to enter on his arm, in case anyone should ask about the baby so she can lie through her teeth about it. Jason and Carly nearly stopped the party dead when they got off the elevator, but festivites resumed when Santa got off the matching elevator (although Santa Tony was taken a little aback himself).

Throughout the festivities, AJ quietly seethed, especially when Monica questioned him about his knowledge of Carly and Jason's affair. Bobbie ran into Tony at the nurse's station, where he turned down her holiday invitation, and then informed her of Carly's current paternity claims. Bobbie went to Monica to express her shock, shock that Jason is going to be a daddy, but Monica noted that only AJ wasn't in a state of disbelief. Just then, Dave Koz led all the girls and boys into the party.

Carly ran into Bobbie in the hallway. She invited Bobbie to call her a slut now and have done with it. Entirely on the defensive, Carly went ahead and made the worst of herself before Bobbie could really get any words in. What Bobbie did squeeze in was that she actually had taken Carly's side in the custody argument (pre-Jason, anyway), but Carly was really in too defensive a mode for this bit of info to sink in.

Stefan confronted Jason over paying Nik's hospital bill and took it as an insult might. Stefan is rather insulting and tells him that he may have cost Nik his power of speech with his improtu knife wielding. Jason surmises that Nik had a stroke and that is what cost him his speech and Jason didn't give him a stroke. Jason is unimpressed with Stefan's attempt to intimidate him and tells him that all he is, is loud. Stefan asks, "How far do you think your reach extends, little man? You multiply it by several time zones and twice as many nations and then ask yourself why I even permit your continued existence?" He goes that it is only because there is a slim possibility that Jason might have saved Nikolas' life but warns him that it isn't a debt that he will carry for long. In the end, neither blinked, and Jason shrugged off.

Back at the penthouse, Jason came home to find that Carly had completely redecorated the place, courtesy of Wyndham's. Carly went on to describe that exchange, and asked Jason how she could have been so shallow, to do all the horrible things she did for someone (Tony) who turned out to be so disposable for her. At the hospital party, Alan took over the role of reading the Story of Christmas. When that was done, Santa started passing out gifts. Mr. Koz picked up the sax and played "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," which brought us into a montage of: Sarah, in tears. Nik, sullen, in bed. Stefan, outside, in black, in the snow being approached and cuddled by Katherine, in white. Carly, opening Jason's brown-bag gift, a key chain engraved "Caroline." Jason, on his balcony, looking sensitively studly. Brenda and Jax, decorating her tree and cuddling.

Carly and Jason return from seeing a family lawyer where they arranged for Jason's name to be put on the birth certificate. They go over all the possible witnesses to felony assault of AJ. Carly is shocked and says she only druged AJ. Jason says the only real witness, the bartender, has decided to "relocate." AJ comes to see Carly, and they bicker once again about the baby.  AJ says he wants to ask Jason specifically *when* Jason slept with her.  Eventually, she has him tossed out. Carly awakens and ominously finds she is spotting blood. Carly in severe distress drags herself downstairs calling out for Jason.  Alone and in pain at the bottom of the stairs, she rationalizes, "Maybe it's better this way.

Jason comes to see Brenda at her home. Jason apologizes for anything he might have done that caused her breakdown. He tells her he understands her need to get out of the hospital. She asks if Sonny sent him; when he answers no, she says now he thinks he has everything of Sonny's, money, organization, power, but he's wrong, then staring into his eyes she slowly reaches up to touch his face. After he gently removes her hand, she draws her lips sensuously close to his till they just meet. Jason pushes Brenda away.  What does she think she's doing? Jason's sorry that he hurt her before, but she's only hurting herself now.  Bren struggles with him and jax bursts through the door, apparently thinking his woman is being manhandled, and punches Jason's lights out. Jason punches back and the guys go at it, knocking over the Christmas tree as Brenda drifts over to the sofa, rocking back and forth. As the guys tussle, a crystal ornament gets crushed underfoot. Brenda is in a daze.  As the testosterone haze clears, Jax realizes that Brenda is out of it. He kicks Jason out and tells Bren everything is going to be all right.  As he starts cleaning up, he keeps talking, eventually reminiscing about their "honeymoon". Those were the best times he ever had. He can't put the angel back on the tree, it was smashed in the fight. They'll find something else instead.  Brenda hands him her angel necklace and he give her the goony-eyes. She confesses that she initiated the spit-swap with Jason.  She wanted to send Sonny a message.  She knows that Jason knows where he is.  It would be the ultimate revenge on Sonny, "He can't destroy me because I will destroy myself first."  She tells him "I think I'm losing my mind."

Carly crawls downstairs to get to the phone, but collapses before she makes the call.  Jason returns from the dust-up with Jax to find her. He carries her out the door as he calls for  Renaldo. Carly is brought into ER and Jason explains how he found her. He asks Bobbie to stay with her as she is wheeled away. The doctor expains that a caesarian will have to be performed to save mom and baby. In the OR, Carly is hysterical.  "Don't let them take my baby," she begs Bobbie. They knock her out, and things look grim for Carly. Jason gazes through the window while Renaldo inquires about Carly's condition. The operation is performed and the baby is delivered, it's a boy! Bobbie holds him as Carly's heart suddenly stops.  As the doctors rush to jump-start it, Bobbie demands "Don't you dare leave this baby without a mother.  Don't you dare!"

After her baby boy is delivered by C-section, Carly suddenly suffers cardiac arrest and has to be resuscitated.  Bobbie explains to a worried Jason that Carly's son may need lifesaving surgery. After bumping into Jason at the hospital, Luke realizes that his sister unwittingly just helped deliver her own grandchild. Though Carly's doctor recommends an immediate hysterectomy, an appalled Bobbie convinces Jason not to give his consent for the operation. Tony rushes to the neonatal ICU after finally receiving a message about the premature birth. Tony argues with Jason over his rights as the baby's potential father to decide on medical treatment for the infant.  After conferring with Monica, Jason opted for the baby to have surgery, against Tony's wishes. The surgery was successful and Tony was saddened to learn that the baby's blood type ruled him out as the father.  Monica told the rest of the Quartermaines that Jason's child had been born and the family converged on the hospital.  Luke continued to wrestle with his conscience over whether or not to tell Bobbie that the baby was actually her grandson. An angry Luke then stopped the Quartermaine's public wrangling over the baby's future.  After watching the behavior of his family, AJ decided to conduct his own paternity test at a later date so that the Quartermaines would not be alerted.  A phone call from Robin seemed to lift Brenda's spirits. Since it is New Year's Eve, this is followed by a montage of PCers as Dara sings to the Outback patrons.

Jason told Carly that the baby's heart defect had been corrected through surgery, but Carly blamed herself for the baby's medical crisis.  Bobbie then tried to bolster Carly's spirits and spoke encouragingly about motherhood. Alan and AJ learned that Tony's blood type eliminated him as the father of Carly's baby. Alan was happy to think that the child was Jason's, but AJ privately realized that he could be the baby's father.  Later, AJ couldn't bring himself to promise Bobbie that he would let Carly live her life in peace. Carly saw her baby boy for the first time and she broke down at the sight of the fragile infant.  Bobbie told the Quartermaines that Tony had been eliminated as the baby's father. Jax arrived in Paris and told Robin that Brenda needed her.

Jason admits to Mike that he's been hanging around the hospital so much because he doesn't want Carly's little son to feel alone. After surprising Robin in Paris, Jax convinces her to fly to Port Charles with him to help Brenda deal with her problem. Carly angrily snaps at Bobbie when the nurse suggests that she'll soon be able to breast feed her baby. Upon learning that the newborn shares Jason's blood type, a devastated A.J. tells Keesha that he is not the father but only an uncle. When a sobbing Carly spits out her hatred for him, Tony assures her that the feeling is mutual. During the flight home, Jax questions Robin about her affection for a dangerous criminal like Jason. Carly's doctor diagnoses her with post-partum depression but assures her patient that her condition is very treatable. Later, Carly tries to get close to touch her baby but again withdraws her hands and bolts from the nursery in tears.  Carly disguises her shock when A.J. states that he now knows that Jason is the father of her son. After explaining to Jason where A.J. made his mistake, Carly asks him to take care of the baby while she disappears.

Robin explains to Brenda why Jax flew her in from Paris. Although happy to see her old friend, Brenda admits that she feels like everybody who comes by is actually checking up on her. After finding Luke in the hospital nursery, Jason tells his business partner he knows all about the secret connection between Carly and the Spencer clan. When Lorraine makes an appearance at GH, Jason warns Carly's blackmailer to go away and never come back. Robin assures an edgy Brenda that she has no intention of seeing Jason during her stay in Port Charles. Luke contemplates his options in light of Carly's disappearance and decides to let his sister know that she is a grandmother. After Jason advises him to keep mum until Carly returns, Luke agrees to wait one month before he tells Bobbie the truth. Concerned to discover how Brenda has obliterated her own face from her photos, Robin is stunned when her friend suddenly accuses her of working for Sonny.

Emily pays a call on Brenda, who's astonished to hear that Jason has just become a father. Jax and the Quartermaines receive an unpleasant surprise when Jason shows up for the board meeting with Sonny's proxy in hand. A.J. complains to Keesha about how he will never measure up to his brother in Alan's eyes. Brenda warns Robin that she's had some bad news about Jason. After dropping the bombshell about Carly and her baby, Brenda embellishes on the tale by telling Robin that Jason also came on to her. A.J. and Keesha crash the meeting at the mansion but are upstaged when Garcia and Taggert arrive with a warrant for Jason's arrest on suspicion of murdering his former attorney.

Taggert and Garcia continue to question Jason about the death of Valentine. Though Jason denies having anything to do with his rival's murder, Taggert secretly vows to pin the dirty deed on him. An angry Justus bursts in and demands that Dara release Jason immediately. As they let him go, Garcia and Taggert both threaten Jason. Jason heads to the hospital to pick up Carly's baby who is being released today. Before he leaves with the baby, Bobbie instructs Jason on how to hold his son.  Ned tells Brenda the bad news that her business manager did run away with all of her assets and hasn't been seen since. He assures her that he's got men looking for the guy but then reveals that Star TV is suing her because of the attack during the photo session. Both Ned and Robin are surprised when Brenda seems overjoyed by the news and even wants to celebrate. Robin calls Jax about her reaction and he agrees to rush over. Catching her on the phone, Brenda kicks Ned out and accuses Robin of calling Sonny.

Robin is surprised when Jason comes home with Carly's baby in his arms. She quickly offers to hold the infant and then listens as he explains his arrangement with Carly to keep secret about who the real father of her child is. Robin lectures him that he's helping her "steal" Tony's baby from him. Jason stuns her with the revelation that Tony's not the father that A.J. is! Robin reveals that Brenda told her that he had slept with Carly.

A guilt-ridden Brenda apologizes to Robin for deliberately hurting her. After the nanny takes the afternoon off, Jason and his henchmen are forced to deal with a squalling infant. A disapproving Bobbie eavesdrops as Tony appeals to Marjorie to remove the helpless baby from the home of a brain damaged gangster.
