Just Jason #13  February 18 - May 31, 1999 - 8 hour original edit

DVD #13A  Jason and Michael are shocked when Sonny arrives at their island hide away. Jason notes that Sonny is alone and asks what happened with Carly. Sonny says that the bitch double crossed him. Sonny explains to Jason that Carly reported him for kidnapping. And she went to the Q's and told them that Jason fought her when she wanted to tell AJ the truth. Jason is angry. He pounds his fist on the table in rage and demands to know when Carly changed her mind. When he left Carly meant to come after him and something happened. Sonny explains that AJ arrived right before Carly was supposed to leave. Jason wants to know if AJ mentioned Ferncliff. Sonny insists that AJ did nothing. Carly decided that Michael is the only way to get more money from the Q's than she would from Jason. Carly sold Jason out and if Jason comes back to Port Charles, he will lose Michael forever.
Jason insists that he is Michael's legal father. Sonny tells Jason that, according to Alexis, he has almost no chance of retaining custody if both of Michael's biological parents are against him. Alexis doesn't think that the kidnapping charges will stick, but if Jason brings Michael back, the courts will take him away permanently. Sonny tells Jason that he can't go back, but Jason says that he has to. Jason insists that Carly loves Michael and that he can't disappear without giving Carly a chance to explain. Sonny doesn't think that Carly deserves that chance. She lied and said that Jason abused her threatened her life physically. Sonny heard her say it to AJ when he went to visit her at the Q's. When he told Carly that he was going to tell Jason, Carly came to the penthouse to try to make a deal with Sonny. He says that Carly would have done him on the penthouse floor. Jason owes her nothing. Jason says that he still wants to hear Carly tell him why she did it.

Sonny thinks that Jason is crazy. The Q's will take Michael away. Jason says that he is Michael's father because he loves him, not because he slept with Carly. Someday he was going to have to explain that to Michael and pray that he understood. If he doesn't go back now, he will have to explain to Michael why he took him from his mother because he didn't like the way she fought to keep him. That he has another name and another life and Michael will hate him. He can't do that to him. He won't make Michael's life a lie. Not if there is any other way. Sonny tells Jason that he misses his child even though it was never than a possibility, he can't imagine the hurt that Michael would feel if he lost Jason. Michael needs Jason more than he will ever need anybody. As Sonny leaves, he tells Jason that he will miss him, but not to come back.

Jason slips into the Brownstone with Michael and explains to Bobbie how he and Carly originally planned to flee the country together. Bobbie tells Jason that she knew Carly was lying. Disappointed in her daughter, Bobbie wonders if money really means that much to Carly and also wonders why Carly would lie deliberately? Jason tells Bobbie that it's Carly's way of reacting when she is panicked. Bobbie can't believe Jason is defending her and Jason tells her he isn't. Bobbie then tells Jason that Carly is doing all of this for herself, not Michael. She then adds that Carly's way of dealing with things is going to get Jason put in prison. Jason says that he is Michael's father by love, he has always taken care of Michael. Bobbie tells Jason that may very well be, but if Carly sticks to this kidnapping story, he is lost. She then tells him if this goes to court, he better line up all the friends he's got. She then asks Jason what is he planning to do?

Before Jason can answer her, Sonny arrives with Alexis and Johnny in tow. Jason thanks her for coming, but makes it clear that he doesn't want Alexis speaking for him and doesn't need Alexis. Sonny says that he needs a criminal lawyer, not a family lawyer. Sonny figures out that it's because of her representing Tony. Bobbie pulls Jason aside, saying that he does need a lawyer, and Alexis is it. Jason asks Alexis for one good reason why he should trust her. Alexis says that she is not without ethics. She was intimidated to represent Tony by Helena, and now would never go near a person who would make a child suffer. Representing you would allow me to make amends. Alexis says that she doesn't think she can get him custody, but will offer her opinions. "Your legal rights are limited. No court will give a child to the custodial parent over the biological parent. Especially because of your last line of work." She says that all the Q's have to do is show that they can give a good home and the best he can do is to get regular visits with Michael. Jason says what is best for Michael is to stay with him.

Alexis warns him that it'll get ugly and adds for what it is worth, she thinks he is the better parent. Sonny offers to drive Alexis home. After Alexis explains that she'd like to make amends for how she handled Dr. Jones' case and gives Jason pointers on his chances in court, Jason asks her if she is sure that this is the job she wants. She tells him it's a job she would love. Jason agrees to work with her. He then says that he is now going to go talk to Carly. Alexis offers to go with him as his legal representative, but Jason tells her Carly will be straight with him if no one else is with him. Jason then asks Bobbie to watch Michael, and asks her to swear not to call Carly. Bobbie agrees and Sonny, Jason and Johnny leave.

Sonny, Jason and Johnny are on the docks. They run into Moreno, who tells Sonny he should have stayed away. He then tells Sonny that Port Charles is his town now and Sonny had better watch out. Sonny laughs his threats off and tells him that he imports coffee now and would like to brew Moreno a cup to go.

Later, Jason arrived at the Quartermaine mansion. Carly turns around to find Jason and is surprised to see him. Carly is ecstatic to see Jason, but he pushes her away when she tries to hug him. Carly does a complete 180 when she notices AJ walking by and starts yelling at Jason demanding to know where her baby is. He can't just run off with her son. He is her son, not Jason's. AJ insists that Jason get away from Carly. He asks if it finally dawned on Jason that people get arrested for kidnapping. Jason said that he didn't kidnap anyone. He and Michael went out of town for a couple of days. It's called a vacation. AJ says that Carly admitted the truth and demands to know where Michael is. When Jason refuses to answer, AJ leaves to call the police.
AJ informs Jason that the police are on their way. Monica walks in and is thrilled to see Jason. She is not so thrilled when she learns that AJ has called the police. Taggert arrives commenting on the return of the baby snatcher. Jason explains that he and Michael took a trip and now they are back. Carly made a mistake. Carly is reluctant to confirm or deny. Taggert tells her that before she answers she should know that kidnapping will be difficult to prove since Jason has been the custodial parent since Michael was born. AJ asks about the blood test and happily shows Jason and Taggert the new and improved court order. Jason crumples up the court order and informs AJ that there will never be a blood test.

AJ asks Jason if he thinks they are bluffing. Jason says that he isn't letting anyone stick Michael with needles to prove something everyone already knows. Jason admits that AJ is Michael's biological father. Monica says that she is proud of Jason. His actions prove that he is acting in Michael's best interests. AJ says that he and Carly want to see their son. Jason says that Carly can see Michael, but AJ can't. AJ is outraged, but Taggert confirms that Jason can keep Michael away temporarily since Jason's name is on Michael's birth certificate. Jason offers to take Carly to Michael, but AJ doesn't want her to go. Taggert offers to remove Jason from the premises, but Monica says no. After Taggert leaves, Jason offers to take Carly to Bobbie's, but Carly says that she will have AJ drive her. AJ tells Jason that this is the last time he will keep him away from his son. After Jason leaves, Carly tells AJ that it doesn't do any good to antagonize Jason. They should just be glad that Michael is back. AJ agrees that Carly is right. He can't wait to see his son.

Jason arrives at the brownstone and is surprised to see Alexis. Jason explains that AJ called the police, Taggert showed up and said that Michael had to take the blood test. Alexis suggests that Jason take the blood test as say that it is the first he knew that he might not be the father. She is furious when Jason says that he already told AJ he was the father. Jason says that he didn't want Michael to have to take a blood test. Alexis says that if he wants her help, he can't make anymore decisions without her. Bobbie agrees. Custody battles can be ugly, and AJ and Carly will definitely fight dirty. The door bell rings and Carly brushes past Bobbie saying that she is there to see Michael. Jason picks Michael up out of his play pen and hands him to Carly telling Michael that his Mommy missed him. Carly holds Michael tight and says that Daddy is right, she did miss him.

Carly is talking to Michael asking if he had a good time with his Daddy. Bobbie sarcastically asks if that is Daddy the kidnapper or Daddy who has been a wonderful father to her son. Carly says that now isn't really the time and Alexis tells Jason that she needs some time alone with him. As Jason leans down to say goodbye to Michael, Carly says that the only thing that matters is making sure Michael doesn't get hurt. Jason says that he has been trying to do that Sonny goes over to Jason's penthouse to talk about the custody case. He tries to gauge how Jason will handle not getting custody of Michael. He badgers Jason about Carly and her motives. He warns Jason that the custody suit is going to be war with the Quartermaines. Alexis arrives and tells Jason that she has been busy putting out a couple of fires. She has temporarily blocked a "temporary custody" order that AJ filed that morning, but they have already submitted an appeal. Alexis says Jason is working almost impossible odds of winning full custody. They have a slight chance of winning. Judges nowadays tend to lean toward the "best" parent not who is the biological parent. Jason is encouraged but Sonny is not. Alexis leaves and Sonny tells Jason about his run in with Moreno on the docks earlier. Moreno doesn't believe they are opening a legit coffee business and anticipates trouble. This is cement Sonny's point about Jason proving to the court that he is no longer in the business. Everyone believed that Jason was "clean" until Sonny came back into town. He thinks they should sever ties: business and friendship. Jason says no. He is the better parent that the Q's. If he walked away from Sonny, he would be like a Quartermaine, no loyalty, and no honor. This is not the kind of father he told Michael he would be.

Carly shows up at the penthouse. Before she can go into Jason's, Sonny intercepts her. They exchange heated words. Sonny asks her what she's peddling today - honesty? Carly fires back about being honest with Jason about Sonny propositioning her! Right then Jason opens the door. She tells Jason it's true, but Jason cuts her off. They go into the penthouse. He asks her if she is going to doublecross him again like Sonny says.

Carly is attempting to explain things to Jason. She insists that Jason is the only person with which she can be really honest. He is the only one who really "gets" her. Jason fires back "Maybe I did but not anymore." He demands to know why she didn't follow him as planned and instead went to the Quartemaines and accused him of kidnapping. She claims it was to ensure that Michael would have a life with the two of them. Carly paints a picture of how awful it would be if they had to be on the run and never trust anyone. She tells Jason she didn't want to leave their friends and family behind. Through this sickening display she manages to insult Sonny and Emily. Jason looks in anger. She even plays the Bobbie card. She goes further and says she doesn't want to take him away from the very life he loves...like Robin did. All these things were going through her mind when A.J. showed up with another court order for a blood test. She claims they can fight the Quartermaines and win. Jason wonders what could they possibly win by telling everyone he steals babies. Carly continues to tell Jason what she did is for the best. She is only pretending to be on the Q's side. Since Jason is legally Michael's father he can't be charged with kidnapping. She says she knew this all along. She didn't. Jason tells her it doesn't matter what she does because Michael will still end up at the mansion. He will take Michael and leave before he allows that to happen. She blames this attitude on Sonny and declares Jason would never take her son from her. She drops the bomb: She will have to marry A.J. before the three of them can be together as a family. Jason looks at her in shock. She attempts to explain that by marrying A.J. it won't entitle him to anything. It entitles her to do whatever is necessary to ensure her son doesn't grow up like A.J. A freak in her words.

Carly says they can't win in a battle against the Q's. She is a mental patient. He is a criminal. She insists the plan will work because A.J. hates Jason more than he hates Carly. He is jealous of Jason. Carly believes A.J. still has a thing for her. Jason points out that this is probably not true now since she drugged him and threw him in an alley. She goes on to say that Edward will insist that his great grandson be legitimate. Carly says when A.J. thinks he has won she will make her move and file for divorce and sole custody. She will then be a rich woman and the three of them can be together, in a year or less. Jason tells her this is the dumbest idea he has ever heard.

Jason tells Carly she will be making a mistake marrying A.J. Legally he will have too much power. Jason tells her even if everything goes her way, in which he has yet to see, this will be a disaster. Jason tells her the best thing would be for the two of them to go for custody. They both know this won't happen. Carly continues to insist they do this her way. It's too late to turn back now. If it doesn't work she knows Jason will save her like always. She breaks down in tears and tries to allay Jason's fears that Michael will be out of his life. She tells Jason she loves him and leaves. Jason looks very doubtful.

Desperate to talk some sense into his young friend, Sonny again warns Jason that Carly is a loaded gun pointed straight at his head. AJ tells Sonny that he doesn't have to warn him about Carly, he is well aware of her games, but the most important thing to him is protecting Michael. Sonny again tells Jason that he thinks Jason should take Michael and disappear, but Jason is determined to stay and fight. Sonny warned Jason not to trust Carly. Jason then tells Sonny he is going to take Michael out for a walk and will be back later. While he is gone, Carly goes to Jason's penthouse to see Michael but is irked to find only Sonny in residence. The two of them argue and Sonny warns Carly she's made an enemy for life in him. Jason and Leticia return with Michael and Carly immediately tells Jason that Sonny just threatened her. Jason tells Carly he doesn't want to hear it and gives Michael to Leticia to take upstairs. Carly tries to explain, but Jason cuts her off and tells her that she is not going to be able to turn him against Sonny. He then tells her that she hates Sonny and Sonny hates her and if they want to fight and argue that's their business, but he is not going to be in the middle of it. Carly then reiterated to Jason the importance of following her plan. Sonny makes a off the wall comment and Carly yells at him to stay the hell out of her business. Sonny leaves and tells Jason he'll see him at their meeting later on.

Once Sonny is gone, Carly tries again to badmouth Sonny in front of Jason, but Jason refuses to talk about her feelings toward Sonny. He then asks her what is really bothering her. She tells him that she has been going crazy not seeing Michael and needed to come over to visit the both of them, so that she would know what she is fighting for. Carly tries to play on Jason's sympathy by claiming that A.J. has repeated his threat to send her back to Ferncliff, but Jason tells her that it is her own fault. Carly tells him once she has sole custody of Michael there is nothing AJ can do to them and AJ deserves everything he gets. Jason doesn't agree and tells Carly even if AJ does decide to marry her, she may end up liking the guy and where will that leave Michael. Carly says that won't happen, because all she has to do is remember AJ standing there with the court order in his hands threatening to send her back to Ferncliff.

They then talk about how bad things would be for Michael to live with the Q's. She reminds Jason about the time he stopped someone from raping her, and how she begged him not to beat the guy to a pulp and he told her that the idea is to make the guy not get up. Well, AJ will be so beat up by the time this is over; he won't be able to get up either. Jason tells her that her idea is stupid, like shooting Tony in a crowded courtroom. Jason says that he has the possibility of visitation, or partial custody even and for her not to worry. Jason goes upstairs to get Michael and the three of them visit. Carly asks him about the meeting with Sonny and is it safe? Jason doesn't answer her and Carly tells Jason she is asking because AJ is hinting that Jason's line of work is not safe for Michael and pleads with him not to get shot at. Jason tells her it will be okay. Carly gets ready to leave and tells Michael that she is going to miss him, but knows that this is the best place for him. At another table in the restaurant, Sonny and Jason are meeting with one of their investors and trying to convince him to sign on so that he can receive his coffee from them. As they are just about to finalize the deal, Taggert cheerfully walks up and reports to Sonny that his coffee warehouse is in the process of burning down to the ground.

Taggert seems disappointed when Sonny and Jason are not very excited about the news that their warehouse is burning to the ground. He explains to the third person at the table that the warehouse and everything in it is a total loss. He goes on to explain that Sonny and Jason have lots of enemies because they are two of the biggest racketeers on the east coast. The man gets very flustered saying he didn't know any of this and makes a hasty exit. Taggert asks Sonny and Jason how much they were going to make off the deal that he just ruined. Alexis walks up and says that they were going to make about a third of what she would advise them to sue Taggert and the city for.

While Sonny and Jason watch silently, Alexis tells Taggert that he deliberately intervened to the financial detriment of Sonny and Jason. Taggert insists it was purely a coincidence. Alexis says that there is no evidence against them. Taggert says he was just telling Sonny and Jason information he thought they might want. Sonny suggests that he and Jason go to the warehouse. Taggert says that he has a few questions first, but Alexis says that they don't have to answer. Taggert concedes defeat and says that he will see them at the warehouse. Alexis says that she is going too and excuses herself to go explain things to Jax. After she leaves, Sonny asks Jason if he thinks Moreno is behind the fire. Jason says that they can't say anything because of Michael. Sonny says that they will say it was an accident. The insurance company will like that better anyway.

At the warehouse, Sonny and Jason are angry because the warehouse and everything in it has been totally destroyed. Nothing was saved. Not one pound of beans, not one file cabinet. Taggert walks up saying that it looks like someone was trying to send the new businessmen a message. Moreno maybe? Sonny says that he has been out of town. He hasn't kept up on these things. Taggert says that Sonny being back in town is what made Moreno nervous. Taggert says that Sonny was supposed to be out of town and Jason was supposed to be retired, but here they are, reunited like the temptations. He thinks maybe Moreno was trying to remind them of promises made. Jason asks Sonny if he knows this guy Moreno. Sonny says that he sells watches on the street when the weather isn't bad. Taggert gets angry when Sonny and Jason plead ignorance where Moreno is concerned. Sonny and Jason could give him something that would allow them to bring Moreno in, but instead they pretend like they know nothing and next week something of Moreno's will go up in smoke.

AJ arrives and demands that Michael be released from Jason's care immediately. Alexis interrupts and says that this is not the time or the place for AJ to be discussing Michael's custody. Taggert agrees. AJ and Taggert start to argue, but Alexis interrupts saying that if AJ wants to discuss Michael, he should do it with her and not her client. As AJ and Alexis continue to argue, Carly arrives. She remains hidden, but breathes a sigh of relief when she sees that Jason is unharmed. Carly tells herself to go home and she leaves without being seen. Sonny and Jason know that Moreno is behind the fire. Jason knew that something bad like this was coming. Jason is sorry that Sonny can't retaliate because of him. Sonny says that Moreno isn't worth it. He is a bug. Who cares? Let him gloat.

Alexis asks AJ if he really needs to be there. He has expressed his concern. He knows that Michael is safe. His tactics are very obvious. He came to try to provoke his brother. AJ says that he doesn't have to do anything to make Jason look bad. The way Jason chooses to live his life does if for him. He tells her that it looks like she picked the losing team again. When Alexis asks what he means by again, AJ asks how else she would explain Ned. As AJ leaves, Sonny asks if she put a frog down his shorts. Alexis says that she imagines AJ is on his way to see his attorney. She tells Jason and Sonny that if they are in the middle of a turf war, they need to leave her out. Jason says that he doesn't know what he is in the middle of. He just knows that he didn't start it and he does not intend to continue it. He asks her to please not quit on him now. Alexis says that there is no chance of that. AJ just made the mistake of gravely irritating her. Jason says that he knew AJ wanted to him to hit him. He wouldn't have, he doesn't think.

Carly is sitting in front of Jason's door waiting for him. She jumps up when she sees him and tells him how glad she is that he is ok. Jason assures her that he is fine and so is Michael. Carly says that none of them will be fine if AJ gets his way. Jason can't believe that Carly went to the pier. Carly says that she saw how AJ tried to use the whole thing. She asks Jason if she sees why she did what she did. If things like fires continue to happen, he will lose Michael. He doesn't have a prayer of holding on to any legal rights. That's why she really needs to stay where she is and make nice to the Q's. She tells Jason that, no matter what, she is going to bring Michael back to him. She promises. Carly looks a little worried as she walks out the door.

March 3 - Jason tells Carly that Michael will be taken away by AJ. Alexis told him that after the warehouse fire, the next time AJ and Carly ask for custody, they will get it. He says that Carly is the biological mother, and he is legal guardian. If they leave tonight, then it can't be kidnapping. Tomorrow morning may be a different story. Carly says that when the whole thing happened and Robin opened her big mouth, she was ready to pack up and go and he wanted to stay and fight. She wants to know what changed. Jason says that she found a different way to chicken out, and now there is no chance to win. He won't let the Q's take Michael if there is another way. They can keep the promises they made to Michael and raise him somewhere else. Carly says that they can, but they won't.

At the penthouse, Carly tells Jason that she warned him that he might lose Michael temporarily in order for them to be together in the end. Jason angrily asks Carly what she is going to tell Michael about why Jason isn't around? Michael can't understand it's a plan. Carly tells Jason to calm down. She isn't his enemy. Her plan may not be the simplest plan, but it plan has worked so far. How would leaving the country be any better? Is that what they really want for Michael? They can't raise Michael, no matter where they go; the Q's will find them. She asks when they are going to tell Michael that he is not Jason's son. She talks about finding out that she was adopted. When she found out, she burned every picture in the house and moved out as soon as she could. She couldn't even receive the love her adopted mother was trying to give her because she was too caught up in the lies. She doesn't want that for Michael. She asks Jason to promise her not to leave with Michael.

Jason says that if Carly won't go away, she knows that he can't. Before Michael was born, she asked him to take care of him. He wouldn't be doing that if he stole him away in the middle of the night and took him where his mother couldn't find him. It might be better if he did, but he won't. Jason tells Carly that he knows her. She won't hate AJ forever. She will have anything she wants, anytime she wants. She will have chauffers and servants. She isn't going to want to leave and that is her business. But then Michael will be trapped and that is his business. Carly admits that she could get used to life at the Q's, even Monica and Emily, but she really does want what is best for Michael and that is Jason. She asks if he thinks she is destined to be a horrible mother. Before she met him, she was never not trying to work the situation. She was always trying to scam someone. But with him, she is just herself. He saw right through her and he didn't care. She doesn't have to fake it with him, she can just be Carly. She doesn't have to pretend to be someone better like she did with Tony. It didn't work, why would she sign up for a lifetime of it? She notices that Jason isn't listening and asks what he is thinking about. Jason says that he is thinking about how to help Michael through what's going to happen. Carly tells Jason that he can't let Alexis give up on the issue of visitation. Jason says that Alexis gets that. Since he has been Michael's care taker since he was born, he should have a chance. Carly is glad because AJ hates Jason. There is no motivator like revenge is a great motivator. AJ is going to do whatever he can to make sure that Jason never lays eyes on Michael again. Jason says that there is no way that AJ can make it look like it is bad for Michael to see him. Carly says that AJ may be able to because she signed a statement saying that she was terrified that Jason was going to hurt her. It never actually says that Jason did anything wrong. When it comes up in court, Alexis should just say that it proves that Carly is unbalanced.
Jason is stunned that Carly said that he would hurt her. Carly says that she lied. She is a complete and total flake. And that is what he should say. Have Alexis get her up on the stand and make her admit that Jason never touched her. Better yet, have Alexis ask her if he ever threw her out of bed. Jason can't believe that Carly wants him to call her a liar in court. Carly says that she wants him to pull out all of the stops. She has done a million outrageous things. He can use them all. Use whatever it takes. Carly says that judges leave children with mothers worse than her all the time. Jason still can't believe what he is hearing. Before they can discuss it further, they hear Michael on the monitor. Carly asks if she can go see him since it will probably be the last time for a while. Bobbie arrives at Jason's penthouse asking to visit Michael. Jason tells her that Michael is asleep but invites her in. Bobbie asks if everything is all right. She heard about the fire. Jason tells Bobbie that the Q's heard about the fire as well and they are petitioning for emergency custody of Michael. Bobbie asks Jason when the judge will make a decision. Jason tells her it will be this morning. Bobbie tries to be encouraging, but Jason knows that the warehouse fire was the last straw. It just proves that Michael isn't safe with him. Bobbie tells Jason about Lucas being adopted and how the adoption turned out to be illegal and his birth mother came and took him away. If there was something she could do to make this easier she would. Jason says that it isn't him, it's Michael. He promised him he would never leave him.

Bobbie insists to Jason that he is Michael's father no matter what the courts say. Jason thanks her for trying to help, but knows that it doesn't look good for him. Bobbie says that she has to get going and asks if Michael will be awake soon. Jason tells her that she can go check on him. Bobbie goes upstairs leaving Jason alone in the living room. Carly comes breezing through the penthouse door complaining about what she had to do to get away from the Q's and all because her dear mother wouldn't help her. Bobbie is coming down the stairs and overhears Carly's comment. She tells Carly that she didn't want to lie for her because she does enough of that on her own.

Carly says that she didn't come to defend herself to Bobbie, she just wants to see her son. She asks if Bobbie is going to be there long. Bobbie says that she was just leaving, but she has a few things to say first. Carly says that she thinks that Bobbie has said them all. She is a liar, and she is wicked, she only thinks about herself, she is disloyal. She asks Bobbie if there is anything else. Bobbie says that she is dangerous to her child. Carly says that she will go home and add that to her list. As Bobbie and Carly continue to argue, Jason reminds them that this isn't going to help Michael. If he ends up with the Q's, he will hear enough fighting. That's why they have to help him. Bobbie agrees with Jason. Carly leaves asking Jason to tell Michael that his mother loves him. After she leaves, Bobbie says that maybe she should have stayed upstairs and pretended she wasn't there. Jason says that if she stays on his side, she can be wherever she wants.

Alexis arrives at the penthouse. As Jason anxiously answers her knock, she says that she has bad news. The judge not only granted AJ and Carly temporary custody, he denied Jason visitation rights until after the final custody hearing. Alexis assures Jason that she will petition for the earliest possible date. Jason is stunned at the news. Everyone told him the best way to keep Michael was to stay clean. And now he loses Michael because someone else started a fire. Alexis says that the judge had no choice. Jason says that Michael has a lot of people who love him, but when he wakes up in the morning, Jason is the person he wants to see. Alexis apologizes to Jason saying that she did the best that she could, but that he has to surrender Michael by 6PM tomorrow. She tells Jason that, although she implied that running away was an option before, if he runs now, he will be on the run for the rest of his life. She is a good lawyer and Jason is a good father. She can prove that. They haven't lost yet so don't give up hope.
Jason is playing with Michael at the penthouse. He tells him that a lot of what he teaches him comes from Sonny. Sonny taught him what honor means, that if you break your word, you're nothing. That is why you should never make promise you can't keep. He promised Michael that he would never live in that house and he promised Carly that he would help her keep Michael, now he is going to break his word.

Monica stops by the penthouse to visit Jason and offer her support. Jason tells her that he has until 6:00pm to bring Michael over to the Quartermaines. Monica tells him that she can't stop thinking about how devastating this is for him, and how lonely he must be feeling. She informs him that she knows about the court order, and how custody will probably be granted to AJ and Carly, but admits that she can't get behind them and can see the situation through his eyes. She then tells him that she knows that not telling AJ about his son was wrong, but that's not Jason's fault, it's Carly's. Jason is touched by her support. Monica tells him no matter what happens, his place in Michael's life is to be respected and he has to be part of Michael's life. She then tells him she will do anything he wants to make that happen. Jason thanks her, he knows she means it, because she is his mother, and that she loves him. Monica looks surprised and is caught off guard when he refers to her as his mother. Jason explains that he finally understands how much pain his leaving caused her because when you have a kid and you love him, it doesn't stop, even if he is not with you, even if he forgets you. As a shocked Monica listens, Jason tells her that he is glad that he left her house, but he knows now what he did. After the accident happened, he turned away from her, because he didn't remember her being his mother, but she did remember. Jason then tells Monica how sorry he is for the way he's hurt her, because he knows that she and Alan only wanted him back.

Deeply touched by his words, Monica tells him that love is just love and she better go before she makes a fool of herself. He asks her if she is sorry he is her son. Monica tells him no, she will always love him. She looks at him and Jason opens his arms to her and tells her it's okay. A weeping Monica takes the invitation and rushes to embrace her son for the first time in more than two years. She hugs him tight with tears running down her face. After they are done embracing, she turns to go. Jason asks her to remember that whatever he does, it's for Michael's sake. She tells him he can count on her for that and leaves. A heartbroken Jason prepares to get Michael ready to return to the Quartermaines.

When Emily returns home and finds the Q’s plotting, she asks them what is going on, they admit that they have gotten custody of Michael. She asks how Carly could have let them do this and can't believe it. She then calls out for Monica, but gets no answer. An angry Emily tells them that the police will never touch Michael. Someone knocks at the door. It turns out to be Johnny with Leticia. Carly brings her in and introduces her to Edward. Edward only asks, "where is my great grandson?" AJ asks her too, where is his son? Jason is still outside. Emily goes to the door, with sadness on her face and witnesses Jason arriving at the mansion with Michael. At the appointed hour, a sorrowful Jason appears at the Quartermaine mansion with Michael in his arms. Jason then arrives at the front door carrying Michel. Carly smiles at him, but Jason just stands there silently, holding Michael regretting what he has to do.

Lila comes into the foyer. When she realizes what is going on, she apologizes to Jason saying that she would have stopped it if she had known. AJ tells Lila that she would have been making a terrible mistake because Michael belongs with his family. AJ demands that Jason give him his son, but Jason hands Michael to Carly. Michael immediately starts to cry while Jason tries to explain things to him. He assures Michael that he will be fine with Carly. AJ intervenes telling Jason to say his good byes and go.
Emily asks AJ why he is trying to tell Jason how to handle this. Jason knows Michael, AJ doesn't. Edward asks whose fault that is. Emily asks AJ if he has any compassion for this baby that he supposedly loves. Emily tells Edward and AJ that they aren't acting like they have Michael's best interests at heart.

Carly is in tears as she watches Jason say good bye to Michael. Jason tells Michael that he loves him and he may not be able to see him for awhile. He promises that he won't stop fighting to get him back. Edward tells him that that is enough. As soon as Jason says goodbye, Leticia takes Michael upstairs. The rest of the Q's are unusually silent as they watch Leticia go. Once Michael is out of the room, Jason warns the Q's not to fight in front of Michael again. He gets scared when he hears people yell. Emily says that Michael isn't used to meanness. Edward says that Michael will get used to the cadences of family life and tells Jason to go. He is legally barred from seeing Michael. Emily tells Jason that she hates what the Q's are doing to him and Michael. Jason tells Emily that he needs her to keep it together so she can look after Michael. Emily promises and leaves the room. Lila also leaves telling Edward that she doesn't care where he sleeps tonight as long as it isn't in their bedroom. Carly follows Emily up the stairs to help Leticia get Michael ready for bed. Jason walks over to Edward and tells him that Michael will never belong to him. That said, he leaves, with once last glance up the stairs.

Jason is alone on the docks when Tony happens along. Jason is silent while Tony tells him that he knows why Jason doesn't want to go home. There isn't anyone waiting for him now. It isn't the quiet he is afraid of. It's the prospect of facing all of those little things. He might sit down on the sofa and feel a lump behind his back and it is one of Michael's toys. He might find a plastic spoon shaped like an airplane or trip over a little boot. All the small, but significant items that he will never need again. Those tiny little reminders of another time will cut him to the bone time and time again. Even after the little things are gone, it won't get any easier. If he is feeling bad now, well welcome to a world of pain. Tony tells Jason that he has waited a long time to say this to him. It is so sweet to be able to tell him now that what goes around comes around. Jason, who has finally heard enough, turns around and punches Tony just as Sonny arrives on
the docks.

Tony starts to stand up calling Jason a tough guy when Jason hits him again. Sonny walks over and tells Tony that he can go home now that he has given his little speech. As Tony leaves, Sonny asks Jason if he feels better now. Jason tells Sonny that he promised Michael he would never let this happen. He promised that he wouldn't leave him in that house. Now Michael will wake up every morning and look for Jason and he won't be there.

Jason arrives home with Sonny. He is reluctant to go into his penthouse now that Michael is gone. As he starts to walk in Sonny invites him to stay at his place for the night. Jason declines saying that this is where he lives. It's gonna be like this every night and he had better get used to it how it is. Sonny leaves Jason alone. Jason wanders aimlessly around the penthouse sadly taking in the emptiness.

A distraught Emily begged Jason to run away with Michael. Jason calmed Emily and told her that going on the run wouldn't be best for anyone. Jason is miserable at the without Michael. Sonny tries to distract him with work but to no avail. Jason insists he must find his own way of dealing with this problem. Jason tells him of Emily's' visit and her readiness to help him see Michael. Even if it meant helping him take Michael and run. He admitted to Sonny that he couldn't think straight without Michael. He has never felt such a strong pull on his emotions.

Jason conveys to Sonny how he felt after his accident. He fears Michael is experiencing this same type of disorientation. Strangers leaning over him, wanting to care for him and not knowing any of them. Wondering where Jason is and why he let him down. Sonny blames Carly. Jason regrets giving Michael to the Q's. Sonny tries to allay Jason's' fears, but it is falling on deaf ears. Sonny questions Jason's' decision to give Michael to the Q's. He reminds him that it was in Michaels' best interest. Jason always put Michael's needs first and he should not beat himself up for it. Sonny tells Jason the best way to get a chance to see Michael is to stay clean. Sonny tells Jason not to blow it in the eyes of the court. As Sonny looks on Jason states that he will keep his promise to Michael and find a way to be with him. This greatly worries Sonny.

Sonny asks Jason where he had been all night. Jason is still agonizing over losing Michael, so he rode his bike to clear his head. Sonny tells him that since Moreno is leaning on them it's time to lean back. Sonny wants Jason to stay away from Moreno and any involvement with him. Jason wants to fight back but Sonny tells him it would not be good for his custody case. Jason says it doesn't matter because even though he remained clean it didn't stop the courts from taking Michael. Sonny is insistent that Jason stays clean.

Jason tries to convince Sonny to let him help with Moreno. Carly stops by to tell Jason about Michael. Sonny leaves at the sight of Carly. She tries to get Jason's sympathy, Carly complains about how miserable Michael is feeling. Jason tells her to tell Michael Daddy loves you Michael. Up to the sky and around the world. He always told him that when no one else was around. He instructs Carly to do this until she is sure Michael has heard her. Carly then implies that all his crying could benefit them in the long run. Jason angrily tells her to never use Michael's pain to get what she wants. She looks on in shock and what appears to be disdain. Jason reprimands her and threatens her to never do that again. She sheepishly apologizes. They lay blame on each other. Jason says all that matters now is to fix things for Michael. Carly is told to stay close to Michael no matter what, and to not appear to be afraid. She tries to comfort Jason by saying that in time they will be together again just the three of them. Jason coldly hands her the magazine and says nothing as she prepares to leave. This coldness is not left unnoticed by Carly. Jason tells Sonny he is going to the docks to find out about Moreno's next drug shipment. Sonny advises against it. Jason leaves anyway.

Jason comes home and opens the door to find Sonny inside waiting for him. Jason tells Sonny that he did some work last night that'll pay off. He has figured out how to get Moreno. Jason then told Sonny about his plan to take down Moreno. Sonny refused to let Jason get involved so as not to jeopardize Jason's custody fight for Michael. Jason told Sonny, about how the judge will be prejudicial against him. He won't be able to separate Jason from Sonny and the mob business, therefore he wants to stop Moreno, but he is going to have to stay clean. He then tells Sonny that Moreno is expecting a drug shipment next week and he is going to this meeting, to be a fly on the wall. Sonny says the hell you are, and once again tries to dissuade Jason from taking on Moreno in any way, shape, or form until Michael is safely back where he belongs. Jason tells Sonny that he is the best person to listen in on Moreno's operation. Sonny tells Jason he may get caught, besides they aren't even sure if Moreno set the warehouse fire and it all comes down to who set the fire? Sonny then tells Jason that there are two names unaccounted for on that list. Jason still thinks he can handle the job as the two men debate on whether or not Jason should be involved in the situation or not. Lila asks Jason to please come and see Michael. She assures Jason that Michael isn't sick or hurt, he just needs him. Jason agrees to come right away. Lila hangs up the phone and informs the Q's that Jason is coming. Carly is noncommittal at the news, Emily is delighted, but Edward and AJ point out that it is violation of the court order. Lila is unconcerned and cheerfully tells them to have her arrested and then instructs Emily to have the cook prepare something for Jason to eat. Jason puts his gun away and informs Sonny that Moreno will have to wait. Michael needs him. Sonny watches as Jason rushes out.

Edward opens the door and starts to tell Jason the conditions of his "visit." When Jason hears Michael cry, he brushes past Edward and runs up the stairs to Michael. He runs into Michael's room. Michael immediately stops crying when he sees Jason.
Jason is at the Q's with Michael. He tells Michael that he needs to get some sleep. He carries Michael around the nursery pointing out the toys, telling him that he is going to have a lot of fun playing with them all. He tells Michael that everything in the room is all his. He knows why Michael hates it, because he does too.

Downstairs, Edward tells AJ that Jason's visit is a very bad precedent. Monica says that they should think of it as an opportunity to work something out. Michael needs both of them. For Michael's sake, he and Jason should try to put aside their differences. AJ refuses to reward Jason's lie by giving him a place in Michael's life. Emily asks why AJ can't think of what Michael needs. AJ says that Jason is not the solution. Jason is the reason that Michael is afraid of them. And that is the way it is going to be until he is no longer a stranger to his own son. The room grows eerily silent as Jason walks in carrying Michael.

Edward warns Jason not to even think of leaving with Michael. Jason tells Michael that these are the Q's. He already know Emily. She is the one who tells the truth and the one he trusts to watch over him. He carries the baby over to Lila and explains that she is his great grandmother. He tells Michael that Lila loves him. He then carries Michael over to Monica and tells him that Monica is his mother. Jason points to Edward and tells him that he probably has him figured out by now. He then walks over to AJ and tells Michael that AJ will never hurt him. AJ speaks to Michael saying that "Uncle" Jason is a bad man. He robs and kills people for a living. He tells Michael that Jason stole him before he was even born. After tonight, he will never see him again, if he has anything to do with it. Jason ignores AJ and asks Carly if she will go upstairs with him to help read Michael to sleep. Carly agrees, in the interest of maintaining family harmony, and follows Jason out of the room.

Carly is relieved when Jason finally manages to get Michael to sleep. Carly thanks Jason for coming. Jason tells Carly that she has to do for Michael what he used to. She has to be him. He knows she thinks she can't do it, but she can. She can't be afraid because Michael will sense it and fear is contagious. When Michael is afraid, she should just kick everyone out of the room and hold him. It doesn't matter what she says as long as she says it without being afraid. Jason assures Carly that if Michael hears the sound of her being his Mom and loving him, he will accept her comfort. As she watches Michael sleep, Carly tearfully tells Jason that she doesn't know why she thought she could handle the Q's. She is so out of her league. These people have their daggers out all of the time. She turns around as she is talking and discovers that Jason is gone. Jason arrives back at his penthouse. He resumes his position in the chair in the corner and stares off into space. Jason overheard Moreno's plans for his next drug shipment. Jason then turned to Justus to help destroy Moreno.

Sonny and Jason enjoy the fruits of their labor. Sonny says that they now have friends in high places. Jason is ready to uncover more information on Moreno's dealings. Sonny advises against this because of his upcoming custody hearing. He tries to explain how he can be connected to this because Justus was his lawyer. He thinks Moreno will come gunning for Jason. Jason is only concerned with seeing Michael and ignores anything else Sonny says. Jason reaches the psychiatrist office and A.J. tries to convince him not to see Michael. It only makes matters worse for the baby. Jason tells A.J. he is Michael's father and goes in to see him.

Alexis tells Jason that she read the doctor's initial report and that the doctor was very impressed with the way Jason and Michael interacted. She suggests that Jason and Sonny drop by the Q's while the doctor is there. Sonny says that he knows someone who can get Jason into the Q's.

Emily tells the doctor that the Q's is the worst place in the world for a kid. All the family does is fight. Monica tells Emily that she isn't being fair to AJ. Emily tells the doctor how Edward tried to buy Michael and than they kidnapped him when Carly wouldn't sell. She also tells the doctor that she and Alan were drug addicts and that AJ is a recovering alcoholic. Carly jumps in and the fight turns into a classic Q brawl. The doctor interrupts saying that she thinks someone is at the door. Sonny has arrived for the board meeting with Jason and Alexis in tow.

Edward demands to know why Jason is there given the restraining order. Jason explains that he is there for the board meeting. Edward says that since Jason sold his ELQ stock to Sonny, he no longer is allowed to attend the board meetings. Sonny gleefully explains that he sold the stock back to Jason. Alexis confirms that as of an hour ago, Jason owns 6% of ELQ stock which entitles him to attend any and all board meetings. Edward is furious, but Carly looks pleased. Edward "allows" Sonny and Jason to attend the meeting, but says that Jason is still not allowed to see Michael. Edward will not have Jason make Carly and AJ look bad. Sonny says that they just came there to do business. Ned suggests that they get down to it then. Jason asks Emily if she is OK. Emily says that she is worried about Michael. As Monica says that they are all worried, the doctor comes down the stairs with Carly and AJ who are apologizing for Michael's behavior. Apparently, the visit didn't go well. AJ explains that Michael is still getting used to the house. The doctor asks if AJ and Carly are engaging Michael in things that he likes to do. AJ and Carly say that Michael likes to take walks.

As AJ and Carly continue to talk to the doctor, Emily comes down the stairs carrying Michael. AJ begs her not to do this, but Emily says that the doctor needs to know the truth. Michael is happy when Emily hands him to Jason. She says that what Michael likes isn't going for walks, it is being with Jason. Emily appears to be right as Michael and Jason interact wonderfully. The doctor watches as Jason explains what is going on to Michael. She asks if he always does that. Jason says that Michael understands more than he can tell them and he has a right to know what's going on in his own life. The doctor notes that Michael is focused and content with Jason. She tells AJ and Carly that that is what they should be working for. Michael hasn't stopped growing up just because the adults in his life haven't decided where he should do it. She thanks the family saying that it has been an informative afternoon. After she goes, AJ demands that Jason give him his son.

Jason says that he is going to put Michael to bed and that if AJ doesn't like it, he can call the cops. In Michael's room, Jason lovingly plays with Michael as he gets him ready for bed.

Dr. Smithson arrives unannounced at the penthouse. Johnny lets the doctor into Jason's apartment, as a flustered Jason scrambles to conceal the gun he's carrying by tucking it behind his belt. Sensing nervousness, she asks if this is not a good time. Jason asks her if there is anything wrong with Michael. She tells him no, she just wants to see how he lives. She then tells him that she would like to get to know more about him. He shows her around the penthouse, without letting her see the gun. She comments on the decorating and he tells her that Carly did it. Sonny shows up to talk to Jason and she asks him about the coffee warehouse fire. Sonny tells her that it was just a freak accident and next time he will be more prepared with his fire insurance. Dr. Smithson asks for Sonny to stay, so she can get a clearer picture of Jason as a parent. Sonny suggests that Jason get them all some coffee. While Jason is getting the coffee, Sonny tries to smooth things over with the court-appointed psychiatrist by vouching for Jason's character and his parental abilities. The doctor wonders why Jason is so uptight and asks Jason what kind of changes he has made in his lifestyle. Jason says that Michael became more important than anything else. Sonny agrees with that, saying Jason is a devoted father. Dr. Smithson then asks about his alleged criminal activity and tells them she knows about them both being accused of committing crimes. She tells Jason the Port Charles Police Department is committed to putting him behind bars and also lets him know that she is well aware of their criminal activity and all of the crimes that have been associated to them. A nervous Jason says that he is not responsible for what others do to them. She doesn't like that answer and asks Jason if exposing Michael to that kind of life can be good for him.

Jason is speechless while Sonny tries to intervene by getting the doctor to look at the view Michael likes and pulls the doctor over to the window. Jason quietly takes his gun out of his belt and hides it under the couch cushion while they are at the window. The doctor is not impressed and tells Jason that she is still not clear on one thing; why Carly chose him to be the father of her baby, but now she is aligned with the Quartermaine's. Sonny intervenes again and explains tells Dr. Smithson that Carly gets confused sometimes. The doctor asks if Carly is a threat to Michael's safety. Jason says no, that Carly loves Michael.

She then asks Jason why he hates the Quartermaines if he was once part of their family. Jason explains that he was not what the family thought he should be. She doesn't like his answer, so he jumps back on the subject of Michael and talks about Michael figuring things out for himself, and how proud that makes him feel. He then tells the doctor that Michael needs someone to help him grow, learn, and be patient with his mistakes and he thinks if Michael could chose, he thinks Michael would chose him. She thanks them for their time and gets ready to leave. Jason offers to show her the nursery, but she tells him that she has seen enough. Sonny closes the door behind her and gives Jason one of those, that was close looks. Jason tells Sonny that they blew it. Sonny tells him not to worry, the doctor didn't see the gun. Jason says that all these explanations and surprise visits aren't necessary, that Michael is happier with him and that should be the end of it.

Shortly afterwards, Alexis shows up and asks Jason how the doctor's visit went. Jason tells her about how badly things went. She says that Dr. Smithson went down to the courthouse immediately and filed a motion with the judge that will change everything. She then shows Jason the obtained court order allowing him unlimited visitation with Michael. Sonny tells them he'll talk with them later and leaves. Jason is happy as he and Alexis head out to the Quartermaines.

AJ is flabbergasted when Alexis announces that Jason has been granted unlimited visitation rights. She assures AJ that it is all legal. The visits must occur at the Q mansion, but AJ and Carly cannot limit the length or number. AJ tells Jason that there is no way he is letting him near his son. Alexis tells AJ that his attorney's can challenge the visitation order in court, but she is sure that even his own attorney's would tell him that it is a waste of time. The order is a result of the report from the court psychiatrist. Carly sarcastically asks if she bribed a judge. Alexis strongly cautions Carly against making any accusations towards Jason because it would reflect poorly on her own legal status (she mouths the work Ferncliff). AJ tells Jason that all he is doing is confusing Michael. As Jason goes up to see Michael, AJ storms off to call his attorney.

AJ points out all the "coincidences" that have occurred lately. Like Sonny selling Jason exactly enough stock to be able to attend the ELQ board meeting. Like Sonny finding out about the board meeting. Like Jason showing up when the court psychiatrist just happened to be making a surprise visit to the Q's. He thinks maybe Ned is feeding Alexis inside information. Alexis assures AJ that Ned had nothing to do with her taking Jason's case. She was told that the Q's like to shoot one another. Jason was looking for an attorney who was willing to shoot back. She likes that. Ned finds AJ's diatribe a little insulting to Alexis, implying that she needs Ned for anything. AJ should have anticipated that in the course of normal conversation, Alexis might have learned a thing or two. Jason comes down the stairs demanding that the Qs' take it outside if they are going to fight. He is trying to get Michael to sleep.

Jason comes down stairs saying that Michael is asleep. He tells the Q's that he will be back tomorrow to take Michael for a walk. Jason finds Sonny on the docks. Sonny asks how it went at the Q's. Jason says that AJ and Edward were angry but that they didn't have any ammunition to do anything about it. They sit in silence for a moment until Sonny asks if Jason is going to watch him all night. Jason says he will leave, but he doesn't feel comfortable with Sonny not having a guard. Sonny leaves with Jason saying that he doesn't know why he spends so much time there anyway.

Emily promised Jason that she would ease up on Carly for Michael's sake. Jason reiterated to Carly that he didn't think her plan would work the way she hoped. Jason learns from his source on the docks that Moreno is expecting another shipment that night. Concerned about Sonny drawing fire, Jason urges his friend to avoid all open areas and to keep at least one bodyguard with him at all times. Sonny tells Jason not to worry about him and to check his own back side concerning Moreno. Jason tells Sonny, he is sure that Moreno knows that it's them screwing with his drug shipments and reminds him that he only takes chances to hang onto Michael. He then asks Sonny what's Sonny's chances of getting shot or ending up dead. Sonny tells Jason if Moreno tries something, he'll be ready for him. Jason tells Sonny that planning things, and having someone else doing the dirty work is the hardest part. Sonny agrees, but tells Jason that he isn't worried about Moreno. Jason convinces Sonny to agree to meet him at Jake's after he tips off the police about Moreno's next shipment, because it'll be good to be somewhere where a lot of people can see them, as to provide an alibi. Sonny tells Jason he'll meet him there and then leaves.

DVD #13B  Carly shows up at the penthouse. Jason who is working at the desk, barely looks at her and asks if Michael is okay. She tells him he's find and asks where Sonny is. Jason tells her Sonny's out and Carly sarcastically says thank God for small favors. He asks if she needs money and she laughs and tells him no, AJ gave her some money. As she babbles on about the Quartermaine's, Jason continues to ignore her and tend to his work. Carly picks up on it and asks him if he is done ignoring her. He comes over to the sofa where she is sitting and asks her point blank if she wants something. She tells him they have a problem and asks him if psychiatrists can be bribed to say what you want them to say. Jason tells her they can. She is relieved and tells him that the custody trial is going to be uglier than they thought. Jason looks at her and asks if it is going to be uglier than her calling him a kidnapper and a violent threatening person. Carly has a stunned, embarrassed look on her face and tells Jason to just say she was a psycho and make her admit that he never touched her. Jason says whatever and Carly warns Jason that A.J. is going to use Jason's irreversible brain damage to damage his credibility as a parent.

She then tells him that AJ has enlisted Tony to testify to Jason's mental condition, and say that he is emotionally detached and not capable of being a father. Jason tells her AJ is taking a big risk, because his brain is what it is because of AJ. Carly agrees, but tells Jason that AJ told her if any neurologist looks at his scan, they are going to have to agree with AJ and that is why she thinks they should buy a psychologist. Jason tells her if she wants to says that he is an animal, and they want to say he is as dumb as a rock; then there is nothing he can do about it. Carly asks if Jason is just giving up on her. Jason says that if Alexis says that there is a doctor testifying against him, he will find someone to testify for him, but it doesn't help him to know ahead of time what AJ is planning on doing. He then tells her that she is taking great risks coming there so often and the most important thing is to get AJ to trust her and he's not going to do that if she keeps taking chances by coming over here.

She tells him they all hate her there at the Quartermaines and the ones that don't, she hates. She then tells him that even Bobbie called her a gold digging tramp. Jason gives her one of those, (well you are looks) and says well and she angrily says well what. She is close to tears and wonders why she puts up with all this and then continues to babble on again about her life at the Quartermaines. He tells her that he has no choice but to go along with her plan, so she might as well toughen up and see it through. She asks if he believes her that they are a family. He says that families don't always stay together. She says that she is trying her best, the only way she knows how. He then tells her he has to go. She asks which way he is going and he tells her it is none of her business. He then says that she has her way to work on their future and he has his. With that he shows her the door and follows her out.

AJ shows up to meet up with his man. The man is there and AJ hands him money, and tells him not to think of blackmail. The man says that he is not going to risk having Sonny and Jason as enemies. Carly wonders along the docks after looking for AJ at Kelly's and witnesses the payoff. She hides behind a trash dump so she isn't seen and overhears as AJ tells the man if anyone finds out that he hired the man to torch the warehouse, there will be hell to pay.

Jason is at the warehouse. He silently walks in, looking around, but suddenly hears a crash, then hides. As he is hiding, three men come in and go into another part of the warehouse. Jason takes this opportunity to call Benny, and tell him to make the call to the Police Department. After tipping the police to the whereabouts of Moreno's latest drug shipment, a hidden Jason found himself trapped in Moreno's warehouse when the police raided the building. At Jake’s Sonny asks Jason about the shipment and warns him not to get too close to Moreno because Taggert will try to bring them down. He also urges Jason to see a doctor to get his wound looked at, but Jason insists on visiting the Quartermaine mansion to put Michael to bed. Jason leaves Jake's and as Sonny turns to do the same, he tries to leave Hannah a very large tip, but she will not accept it.

Jason arrives at the Quartermaine mansion and is reading to Michael in the den when Carly and A.J. return. A.J. yells at Jason for disturbing Michael's sleeping schedule and taking advantage of the visitation agreement while Carly tries to keep the peace. She convinces A.J. that it is not in his best interest to make a scene, and that they must act like they trust Jason in order for Michael to trust them. After Jason leaves, Carly holds Michael's toy giraffe close to her and notices that there is blood on its back.
Jason assures Sonny that he is okay after seeing the doctor. He claims that bullet didn't even nick the bone. While Sonny and Jason are meeting, Carly burst in demanding to know if Jason is okay because she saw blood At the quartermaines' after Jason left last night. Jason assures her that he is fine and asks her to leave so that he and Sonny can get on with there meeting. Carly then drops her bombshell...she knows who torched the warehouse. A.J.!!! Sonny shows her a picture of the arsonist and she confirms that he was the man A.J. was meeting with on the docks. Sonny urges Jason to go to the judge with this knowledge and says that Carly could testify and then Jason would get Michael back. Carly freaks and says she can't testify. This, of course, leads to another fight between Carly and Sonny.

Sonny storms out of the penthouse with the parting shot of not being able to stand being around Carly for another second. Carly gets all emotional about the fact that Jason hasn't told Sonny about her plan. Jason tells her the only reason he didn't tell Sonny was because the plan was so stupid Sonny wouldn't believe it! Carly continues to believe the real reason is because Jason is so loyal to her. Johnny announces the fact that A.J. is here to see Jason. Carly escapes to hide upstairs and of course eavesdrop. A.J. purposes that he and Jason stop the custody fight. A.J. assures Jason that he would allow him visitation right until Michael no longer needed him and then Jason could just fade away. Jason assures A.J. that there was no way that he would agree. A.J. tells Jason he is being selfish and Jason tells A.J. to get lost. Of course, A.J. leaves in a huff. Carly comes down stairs and she and Jason talk about what an idiot A.J. is. They share a hug and some jokes on the way.

Jason walks in as Sonny and Carly are arguing. Carly says that she isn't afraid of him. Sonny tells her that she should be. Carly says oh yeah and raises her hand to slap Sonny. Sonny grabs Carly's hand and holds her arms down. As they continue to struggle, Jason arrives. Jason tells Sonny to let Carly go. Sonny releases Carly and tells Jason that it is time to cut the tramp loose. Carly tells Jason that she wanted to explain their plan to Sonny. Jason tells Carly that she shouldn't have come. What's going on with them has nothing to do with Sonny. Carly says that Sonny hates her and she doesn't want him to turn Jason against her. Sonny tells Carly that Jason can see for himself that she is nothing but a pimp for her own kid. Jason calmly tells Sonny not to insult Carly in front of him. Then he turns to Carly and tells her not to pull something like this again. This has nothing to do with something. Carly leaves, but tearfully tells Jason that everything she is doing is for the three of them. After she goes, Sonny begs Jason to tell him that he is working Carly and that he doesn't believe a word that comes out of her mouth.

Sonny tells Jason that he is clear on what he thinks he owes Carly, but she doesn't deserve that kind of consideration. Jason should be protecting Michael from Carly. Jason would have Michael full time if that slut hadn't sold him out. Jason says that he understands why Sonny hates Carly, but he is asking him to back off. This is his problem and he has to solve it. He hates defending Carly to Sonny. It would be better if Sonny left it alone. Sonny says that he will do his best, but Jason better make sure that Carly stays clear. Jason says that whatever way it turns out, he has to handle it for himself. He then tells Sonny that he is going to Jake's to shoot some pool and is shocked when Sonny says that he wants to come along.

At Jake's, Sonny is beating Jason at pool. He tells Jason that he got a call from the coffee grower and he is ready to go back into business. Jason thinks they should be cautious. Moreno might still want to retaliate for the interrupted drug shipments. Sonny tells Jason that he cut it way too close last time. He shouldn't be taking those kinds of chances. He and Jason need to make it clear that they are coffee merchants only. Jake walks up and strikes up a conversation. She thanks Sonny for helping out the other night. She also tells him that she fired Hannah for stealing. Sonny is not pleased with the news and wants to know where Hannah is, but Jake doesn't know. Jason offers to find her. Sonny doesn't answer.

A nervous Jason comes by and asks Sonny if he knows what he's going to say to the coffee distributor that they'll be meeting. Sonny tells him everything's going to be fine. Jason thinks Sonny for doing this and helping him to try to win Michael back. Sonny told Jason that if their legitimate coffee business failed, and Jason still lost Michael, then he would consider going back to his former life. Jason understood and agreed and then the two men left for their meeting.

While conducting business with Jason and a coffee distributor, Sonny is distracted by the sight of Hannah dining with one of Moreno's lieutenants. As Jason is conducting the business with the distributor, he notices that Sonny's mind is not entirely on their deal. Jason ends up making the deal with Sonny chiming in his two cents at the last minute. The distributor thanks them and Sonny apologizes about what happened the last time they did business. The distributor leaves and Jason asks Sonny who is still distracted by Hannah, where the hell was he just now.

Sonny asks Jason to turn around and tell him what he sees. Jason tells Sonny he sees the girl from Jake's having dinner with one of Moreno's lieutenants. Sonny tells Jason he suspects Hannah was working as an escort and did not want to be in the guys company. Jason asks him how can he tell that and Sonny tells him he can tell from her body language. Jason tells Sonny that if he is worried about Moreno's man being in their territory then don't, because they don't have any territory and he doesn't think the girl wants to be rescued.

At the Quartermaine Mansion, Jason is playing with Michael in the living room. Carly comes in with Latisia and sends Michael off on his walk to the duck pond. With Michael barely out of the room Carly attacks. "Who was that slut you were with last night?" When that doesn't get a true response from Jason, Carly starts in on the whining, "I had a horrible night. I had to go out with A.J. I had to be harassed by Luke. You were flirting with another women." Still, no real response from Jason. Carly then deduces that Jason must be jealous. Jason, more or less, laughs in her face. He tries to explain to Carly that he was just helping Hannah out because she was new in town. Jason tries to soothes Carly ruffled feathers. Carly assures Jason that Hannah could only be jerking his chain and tells him he should be wary of female strangers. Jason laughs at this and says that no one could jerk his chain as badly as Carly herself does. Carly then gets all sappy and reminisces about when she was the new girl in town and she and Jason didn't need any words to communicate. He reminds her that they reason they didn't need any words is because the sex didn't mean anything. Latisia returns with Michael. While Jason plays on the floor with Michael, Carly tries to probe into Jason's plans for the evening. He insinuates that he will be at Luke's.

Carly and A.J. show up at Luke's. Carly watches with an evil eye as Hannah and Jason chat. A pacifier falls out of Jason's pocket and Hannah is curious. Jason tells her it belongs to his son. She tells him she loves children and on her way back to work tells him she would love to meet his son. Sonny walks up as Hannah leaves. With a smirk, Jason informs Sonny that he doesn't think Hannah likes Sonny very much.

Carly is holding and playing with Michael when Jason shows up. Jason says hello and Carly tells him that Michael has been waiting for him. He takes Michael in his arms and Carly says, Mommy is okay, but nobody is like Da Da. Leticia comes in with Michael's stroller and Jason wonders what is up. Carly tells Leticia to go ahead and take Michael down to the lake and Jason will join her down there momentarily. Sensing confusion, she begins to say something, but Carly stops her before she does and ushers her out the door with Michael.

Once they are alone, Jason tells Carly that this makes no senses, her and him alone in a room together, and she supposedly hates him or she's afraid of him? He then asks her how would she explain that to somebody walking in right now. Jason raises his voice and tells Carly that this is her stupid plan, pay attention to it. Carly apologizes and tells him she just wanted to warn him. Jason says, about what? Carly says, this Hannah person and then tells Jason that she has figured out that Hannah is just trying to use him. Carly then tells Jason that it's a typical guy thing to do. Jason tells her no, that's what she always does. Carly tells him that Hannah knows she has a better shot with him than she does with Sonny because he's like a clam. He's got this shell on that's not penetrable, and even if it was, is it worth it anyway. Whereas Jason is kind, generous, and giving more so than maybe he should be for his own good.

Jason tells her not to worry about it, because if this Hannah makes her move and he spends a fortune on her, there will still be plenty left for Carly to spend. Carly says that really mean and tells him just because she doesn't want to get hurt doesn't mean she's after his money. Jason then asks her how was having a conversation with Hannah about Michael going to hurt him? Carly then tells Jason that she is sure that Hannah told him she just loves kids, right? Jason tells her if she's worried about him being hurt or being used, don't be, because thanks to her, he knows what it looks like and he'll see it coming. Carly tells him he's just saying that and really doesn't mean that. Jason just walks out and heads down to the lake to be with Michael.

At Jakes,  Hannah smiles at Jason when he comes in and asks if he wants a table for one. Jason sits with Sonny and Hannah then asks him what he wants to drink. Carly witnesses all of this and sees red when she spots Hannah chatting with Jason again at the blues club. Jason tells Sonny that they are ready to start shipping coffee tomorrow. Sonny says that he thinks being a pillar of the business community is going to have its perks. Hannah is serving Sonny's coffee, but trips. Jason helps her up. Carly seethed when she misread Jason and Hannah's friendship as being something more. Bobbie can't believe that Carly is jealous after all she has done to Jason. She hopes that Jason would marry the girl, just to be happy. Carly can't believe that she would take Hannah's side and Bobbie tells Carly that she now realizes that she was only invited over to Luke's to be a spy on Jason. Bobbie then tells Carly that she is on her own. Carly half hearing Bobbie gets up from the table and asks to speak to Hannah outside. The two women then step outside. Sonny and Jason are busy talking and don't see the women leave. Luke comes over and tells Jason that his psycho blond and Sonny's klepto waitress just stepped outside and he doesn't think they're talking knitting. Sonny and Jason give each other a "Now What" look.

Outside of Luke's, Carly gets in Hannah's face, telling her to stay away from Jason. Hannah says she knows that she just waited on Carly and her boyfriend the other night. Carly tells her not to make assumptions of the men she has dinner with. Hannah tells her it wasn't so much the dinner. It was the way Carly was throwing her pelvis at him on the dance floor. She then tells Carly if Jason is taken, he'll tell her himself. Carly says, I'm telling you. Hannah tells her being stalked by a paranoid wacko isn't the same thing. Carly then slaps Hannah, and is stunned when Hannah slaps her equally hard right back.

Jason and Sonny manage to pull Hannah and Carly apart while the two woman continue to throw insults and threats at each other. As Sonny is leading Hannah back into the club Carly yells that if Hannah doesn't keep her stupid little hands off of her man she is going to die. After Sonny and Hannah are gone, Jason looks at Carly in disbelief and asks her what she just called him. Carly tells Jason that he knows what he means to her. Someone has to look after him if he won't do it himself. She warned him that that little tramp Hannah was after him. Jason asks how she expects to pull off conning AJ into marrying her if she intends to smack every waitress that bumps into him.

Jason asks Carly who she is to tell him that he can't follow around whatever waitress he wants. Carly says that she is the woman who volunteered to marry his psychological wreck of a brother so that he can be with her and Michael. So they can be a family like they were meant to be. If Jason feels like she should keep her mouth shut when some cheap piece of tail with dollar signs in her eyes tries to snap him up, then it is a good thing they are having this conversation now. She can adjust accordingly if she has too. She has AJ right where she wants him. Carly tells Jason that she and Michael don't have to come back to him. They'll be fine. She can think of a lot worse ways to live out her long and loveless life than counting her millions and getting in the face of high society. Why should she knock herself out for someone who doesn't even like her.

Jason angrily asks if he has to make a list of all the crap she has put him through. If he didn't like her, why would he stand there and keep his mouth shut? Does she know how much easier his life would be if he didn't like her? If she wants thanks well than thanks Carly for double crossing him, thanks Carly for leaving him alone with Michael when she couldn't cope and then giving Michael to the people that she made him promise not to let near him, and thank you Carly for telling the police and anyone who would listen that he was a kidnapper and a violent criminal and thank you Carly for dropkicking everything in his life that was none of her business. Carly tells Jason that if that is how he really feels, then he is welcome to all the cocktail waitresses he wants. She and Michael will be just fine. She starts to walk away, but stops and turns around when Jason doesn't come after her.
Carly tells Jason that he could have at least pretended that she could walk away or he could have come after her. Jason asks Carly why she complicates things so much that there is no recognizing it anymore. Carly says that that is how the boy/girl thing works. Jason says that he likes Carly. Why? That is a hard one to answer. He likes her and that's it. They are friends. The times that he needed her she was there. She hid him in her room once. Besides, she is always worried about him getting shot or being dead. It doesn't mean that he thinks her plan will work. Her plan is not only stupid, but if by some amazing coincidence she called every shot right and the plan might accidentally work, she would flip out over nothing at the last minute and everything would be a catastrophe again. Carly agrees that that sounds like her. Jason tells her to please calm down for his sake and Michael's sake. Carly says that if Jason can say that he likes her, she guesses that she can try to calm down.

Jason has escorted Carly back to the Q's and she is getting ready to sneak back into the mansion. Before she leaves, she tells Jason that she knows that she overreacted. She gets crazy like that because she is so afraid that her plan will actually work and when it is all over, Jason won't be there waiting for her and Michael. She knows that she makes Jason so mad and she makes promises all the time, but Jason never makes them back. Jason assures Carly that he is in for the long haul and she doesn't have to smack waitresses around to convince him. Carly tearfully says that she is sorry. The stakes are so high. She hugs Jason and thanks him. Then she leans up and kisses him passionately. Jason willingly kisses her back.

Jason releases Carly from their passionate embrace and demands to know what she is doing. She repeatedly tries to kiss him, but he departs. A.J. comes outside and almost catches them in the act. Carly covers well, saying that she had been out for a walk, and A.J. seems to buy the act.

At Laura's, Luke talks to Lesley Lu on the couch, having taken Lucky's advice to spend more time with his children. He is reading her a story about a princess when the telephone rings. Nikolas, who was in the other room, answers the phone and hears the news about Lucky. The young Cassadine interrupts the bonding Spencers and asks Lulu to go upstairs and get ready for bed. He tells Luke that the police called and that they said that there was a fire in the garage and that the body is believed to be Lucky's. Luke is in a state of disbelief and shock and leaves the Spencer home with instructions not to tell Laura the news until he is able to confirm Lucky's death and tell her himself. Lulu comes downstairs and Nikolas reads to her until she falls asleep.
At the Quartermaine mansion, Jason goes upstairs to comfort Michael, leaving Carly and Jason alone. The two discuss the custody situation and how poorly Michael is adapting to his new situation. A.J. feels that he will never be able to be Michael's true parent as long as Jason keeps returning to the mansion every night. Jason then enters the den with Michael in his arms. As he talks softly to the little boy, Carly attempts to play with them as A.J. leaves. Carly follows A.J. from the room after kissing her boy goodnight. Jason explains the strange situation to Michael when his phone rings.

Jason gets a call about the fire and learns that Lucky was killed. When Jason arrives at the scene, Luke spots him and tells him to put Lucky on his list of business losses. Sonny asks Jason whether A.J. or Moreno was behind the fire, but Jason does not know. Taggert then brings Liz the pendant of the subway charm that she gave to Lucky and tells her that it was found on the body. She collapses to the ground and Sonny reaches down to comfort her.

Jason tells Emily about Lucky's death. He holds Emily as she cries on his shoulder. Emily tells Jason what a special friend Lucky was. She explains how after her mother died she had not even been able to smile but, Lucky made her laugh. He always knew just what to do to make the situation better. No one ever had to ask him or help him or join him, but he would do whatever it took. Emily asks about Elizabeth and wants to go to her. Jason reminds her how early it is and recommends she wait and go later. Jason sees how Emily is very distraught about Lucky and apologizes about the fire. Carly overhears Emily tell Jason that it is not his fault and interrupts to find out what is not his fault. Carly is upset to hear that Lucky has died and expresses how she had hoped to one day get to know her cousin. She then is startled to hear that Lucky died in a fire (obviously linking AJ to the fire). Carly excuses herself to allow Jason and Emily to continue their talk. Jason asks Emily if she wants to come to his house but she refrains and wants to stay at home, alone. Jason reminds Emily that she can call him at anytime if she needs anything and then leaves to find Carly.
Carly is meanwhile downstairs calling Lt. Taggert about the fire. Jason catches Carly and hangs up the phone. He reminds Carly that her actions have consequences that involve other people and that she cannot continue to act without thinking things out. They agree that the best method to catch AJ, if in fact he was behind the fire, is for Carly to watch him. Jason assures Carly that if AJ is behind the fire he had no intention of someone dying and would start making mistakes to cover his tracks. This is when they would catch him.

Jason tells Carly that she shouldn't be there with him alone. She says that everyone else is off somewhere else. She says that she was panicking when AJ caught her. She says that she will find a way to prove that AJ set those fires. She promises Michael that he won't have to spend any time with AJ. Jason stops her, saying she shouldn't promise that and warned Carly that AJ might not be the person responsible for the fire that killed Lucky. Carly vowed to Michael that he would never grow up to be like AJ.
Sonny is on the docks alone when Jason arrives. Sonny tells Jason that Luke was the first friend he made in Port Charles. He was smart and funny. They hit it off. At first, Sonny was jealous because Luke was able to create and hold on to a family, even with the life he led. Something Sonny couldn't do. Sonny didn't think it was a possibility for guys like him. But there Luke was, a guy like him and doing it all. Luke gave him hope and he swore to himself and to Luke that he would be tireless in protecting what Luke had. Jason tells Sonny that he didn't kill Lucky. Jason says that he should have done something before it came to this, but he couldn't.
Carly hears a loud knock at the side entrance of the Quartermaine mansion. She goes to the door and lets Jason inside and then recounts the difficulties she witnessed at Bobbie's. She tells Jason how brave Lucas was when he heard the news of Lucky's death, how he didn't cry but instead offered to say a prayer for the unfortunate young man. Carly then thinks of her own childhood and realizes that it wasn't as bad as she might make it out to be. She rests on top of Jason on the sofa and asks him to remind her if she ever forgets that. Jason asks about Lucky's funeral and Carly says that it was terrible; she felt very uncomfortable there. Jason asks if Luke mentioned him at the funeral, but Carly assures him that it would be crazy for Luke to blame Jason for Lucky's death. She also tells him that he should look forward, not back, although she adds that she could never go on if Michael were to die. Jason confesses that he could not either. He then tries to say goodnight, but Carly persistently badgers him before he is able to finally depart.

Hannah meets up with Jason on the docks while she is looking for Sonny. She asks Jason how Sonny is doing and wants to know why he feels responsible for the terrible things that happen around him. Jason, in his usual Neanderthal way tries to explain. Hannah tells Jason that she only wants to help Sonny. Carly, of course, just happens to be around the corner eavesdropping on the conversation and Sonny catches her. Sonny demands that Carly apologize for what happened at Luke's club. Carly grudgingly offers an apology and Hannah accepts it in the spirit it was given. Carly then demands to talk to Jason. As they walk away, Hannah offers her thanks to Sonny for making Carly apologize. Carly tells Jason that AJ planted the article in the paper. Jason says it doesn't matter. Carly believes it does and says she is going to find proof. Jason warns her to be careful because AJ is getting desperate. After Carly and Hannah leave, Sonny asks Jason what he and Hannah were talking about. Jason told him and Sonny told Jason to tell Hannah to stay away from him.

Jason is at Luke's, all dirty. Hannah sees him and pours him a beer. He tells her about working at the warehouse. She asks about all his careers, busboy, coffee merchant etc. Jason tells her it's better to own a business than work for one. They then jump on the subject of Lucky and he tells her about the Arson report and its findings. She is glad to hear that they don't think it had anything to do with him and Sonny. He says that it's still hard to believe. Hannah talks some more to Jason and Sonny. Sonny gets ready to come out, but hears Hannah quizzing Jason about him and decides to eavesdrop. Jason doesn't reveal much about Sonny, but what he does reveal, has her intrigued.

They jump on the subject of Taggert and Hannah asks Jason what is it with him and Sonny. Jason tells her that Taggert has had a vendetta against Sonny ever since he came to Port Charles. She asks him about what, but Jason doesn't divulge that information and tells her that she'll have to talk to Sonny. She then tells Jason about her run in with Taggert when he came to bother Sonny. Still listening, Sonny decides to make his presence known and comes out to the bar and tells Jason that thanks to Hannah. Taggert didn't stick around long like he usually does. Jason asks what happened and Sonny tells him about Hannah spilling a whole tray of drinks on him. They all laugh. Hannah leaves to go get something out of the kitchen.

After she leaves, Jason admits that Hannah is asking all kinds of questions about Sonny, and she showed her concern for Taggert pushing Sonny. He then tells Sonny that Hannah is very interested in him. Jason then gives Sonny the paperwork for the day's work and tells Sonny he has to go and will catch up to him later. Carly slipped into Jason's bedroom and wanted to make love with him. Seeing that Jason is in the shower, Carly stages a seduction scene designed to snare Jason. She then unbuttons her shirt a bit and strikes a seductive pose on the bed. Jason comes out of the shower surprised to see her sitting there. Carly says, "Surprised?" She then tells Jason that she can't stop thinking about him. He asks her what is she doing here. She tells him it's okay that AJ thinks she's at school and then seductively walks over to him and tells him that she knows he wants her too. Jason looks like he is going to burst her bubble and tell her to take a walk.

Carly says that if he tells her to go, she will. Jason tells Carly that the answer still is, and always will be no. Carly is angry and thinks it is because of Robin. Jason says that this has nothing to do with Robin and he has nothing against sex. There are a lot of women he would sleep with, just not her. Carly is insulted by Jason's comment. Jason asks if she ever hated him more than when they were sleeping together because that was the only time he couldn't stand her. Things were different than. There was no Michael and he and Carly weren't friends. Now, they are part of each other's lives. He isn't going to lose that. Carly asks why he kissed her. Jason says that she kissed him. He didn't push her away because he didn't want to hurt her. Jason apologizes for doing anything that may have made Carly think he wanted to sleep with her, but says that it is never going to happen.

Carly is repairing her face while she tells Jason how humiliating it is to psyche herself up to seduce him and then be rejected. Jason's asks why she did it. Carly says that she did it because she isn't stuck in the past like he is. It didn't work before because of Robin. Jason points out that she tried to blackmail him. Carly accuses him of not trusting her. Jason says that he trusts the way things are now. Jason explains that when they first met, they did what felt good and when it didn't feel good anymore he told her. There was nothing to lose. She was mad, but he didn't care. Everyone involved was an adult. Now there is Michael who is caught in the middle. He won't let her use Michael as a weapon against him.

Carly says that she isn't mad this time because she is the one who convinced him that they couldn't be friends if they slept together. He would rather have him as a friend. She would rather have both. She wants to prove that they can have both. Jason tells her not to try to prove anything. Just accept it. Carly says that she doesn't plan on sneaking into his room on a regular basis. Once a year is enough for her, but she is right. He is really good for her, and he may not believe it, but she is good for him too. Jason tells her to go home. Carly says that she is home. She doesn't live at the Q's, she is stuck there temporarily. Jason tells her to go the Q's, he has something to do. Carly asks if it is dangerous. When Jason doesn't answer, Carly tells him to call her when it is over so she knows that he is safe. As they leave, Carly points out that what she had in mind would have been nicer for both of them.

Sonny and Jason are together in a car watching the warehouse. Sonny asks if Jason is sure that they weren't followed because Taggert has been on his case. Jason asks if Hannah got rid of him again. Sonny tells Jason how Hannah tried again to defend him to Taggert but he stopped her. He doesn't want Hannah involved in his business. Jason tells Sonny that he will tell Hannah to stay away, but Sonny tells him not to bother. Hannah can make up her own mind about him. Sonny suggested to Jason that they hold off on meeting with Moreno and remain legitimate until the custody trial was completed.  Jason arrived at the mansion just in time to hear Carly accept AJ's marriage proposal.

At the coffee warehouse, forklift driver narrowly misses Hannah but instead pierces a bag of coffee, slightly revealing a bag of drugs (to the audience). Jason comes in right after the commotion, on his day off. Sonny asks him to clean up the mess and leaves. As Jason is cleaning up the damaged bag, he discovers the drugs. Jason casually has the workers go work somewhere else as he stashes the drugs in his jacket and begins to open other bags to search for more drugs. Just as he begins, Taggert's voice is heard ordering them to open up. Jason has enough time to hide behind some coffee before Taggert busts into the warehouse. Jason heads out to the docks and urgently passes the planted drugs to Carly and urges her to go home and flush them. She does so without question or hesitation. Jason is soon arrested but without the planted drugs being found. Jason quietly explains to Sonny that Moreno planted the drugs, but that he was able to slip the evidence to Carly before being arrested, but that Hannah saw him.

At the courthouse for the custody hearing, the judge arrives and calls the room to order and asks where Mr. Morgan is. AJ's attorney immediately makes a motion for summary judgment since Jason is in jail, but is interrupted by Ned who explains that Alexis and Jason have been unavoidably detained. As he asks the judge to please just wait a few minutes longer, Alexis arrives with Jason in tow. She apologizes for being late. The judge brushes off her apology and begins the hearing.

AJ's attorney is explaining that Michael is essentially the victim of a year long kidnapping. On the stand, Alan says with certainty that AJ would be the better father. He is the most determined person Alan has ever known. He has never given up on his family or himself. He found his own way into alcoholism recovery without any help. He has made a lot of mistakes, but he is trying to make them right. Monica, agrees that AJ should have custody as the biological father, but when prompted by the judge, admits that Jason is the emotional father. Jason has taken care of Michael since the day he was born. He stayed with him in the hospital and risked his life to rescue him. He has provided a caring and loving home. He even changed his life so he could be a better father to Michael. Jason loves Michael without reservation and she knows that Michael loves him. AJ should have custody, but Jason should be allowed to visit any time he wants.

Carly is on the stand. She tells the judge that Jason scared her from the beginning. He was so possessive with Michael. She should never have let Jason take care of him in the first place. Once she realized it, she was afraid to tell AJ for fear of what Jason would do. On the cross examination, Alexis asks Carly if Jason has ever hurt her physically in any way. When Carly says no, Alexis asks if Jason has ever threatened her. When Carly says no again, Alexis asks how Jason could intimidate her if he has never hurt her or threatened her. Carly says that it is the way Jason looks at her and just stares. He never does anything. Alexis suggests that the intimidation is only in Carly's mind since Jason has never done anything to her.

AJ takes the stand next and tells his side of the story. He says that he was devastated when he learned that he had a son and that he had missed the first year of his life. That is time he will never be able to replace. He wants to give Michael a chance to love him. He wants Michael to know that he can give him a better life than Jason ever can. He wants to set a good example. He wants to help Michael reach his full potential. He and Carly are going to be married soon and they are good parents. He is Michael's father. He wants Michael to be raised by him. Tony takes the stand and explains the nature of Jason's injury. Jason sustained irreversible damage to his frontal lobe. He is physically incapable of feeling any emotion, empathy, love or compassion. His personality is learned. He mimics what he sees. He also has an adrenaline imbalance that can trigger uncontrollable rage at the slightest provocation, yet he cannot experience fear. He can't perceive danger for himself or anyone else. AJ's attorney asks Tony if Jason, in his opinion, is capable of raising a child. When prompted for an answer, Tony reluctantly says that Jason Morgan is mentally incapable of living in society much less raising a child. He advised the Quartermaine's to institutionalize him, but they refused. He thinks that Jason should not be allowed anywhere near Michael.

On the stand, Bobbie explains why she thinks Michael should be with Jason, despite Carly siding with AJ. Carly knows that Jason is right for Michael. That is why she trusted him when Michael was an infant. She has spent a lot of time with Jason and Michael and she has never seen anyone take better care of a baby. Jason is the kind of father she wishes everyone could have and the kind of parent she wishes that she was. Jason loves Michael freely and would do anything to protect him. Jason is the only father that Michael has every known and the only father that Michael will ever need.

Emily explains that the Q's really do love Michael, at least the idea of Michael and the idea of love. Michael is only a baby and can't understand that to the Q's, love is lying and cheating and blackmailing. She tells the court that Michael is miserable when Jason isn't around. The Q's have so much, she doesn't understand why they can't give Michael what he needs the most, Jason. Once Emily is finished, Alexis calls Jason to the stand. As he is sworn in, he stares directly at Carly.

AJ's attorney asks Jason about his recent arrest. Alexis interrupts to ask if this is necessary, but the judge tells Jason to answer. Jason explains that he was arrested not for suspicion of drug trafficking, but for obstruction of government administration. Jason explains that Michael needs to feel safe and to know that he is there. AJ's attorney asks Jason how he can know what Michael needs when he can't feel what Michael feels or imagine what his life is like. Jason only wants Michael because he belongs to his brother. Jason says that he doesn't have a brother. AJ's attorney tells Jason that he stole Michael because he hates Michael and that he is incapable of feeling anything except that hatred. As the attorney continues to badger Jason, Carly jumps up and demands that he stop.

A.J.'s lawyer tries to get Jason to admit that he doesn't feel anything other than hatred for his brother. When things get tense, Carly leaps to Jason's defense but is quickly silenced by the judge. During her cross-examination, Alexis asks Jason what he promised to Michael and Jason reveals that he only promised to love Michael and provide him the opportunity to be himself. He then explains that he knows that Michael trusts him and describes how Michael feels comfortable around those that he can trust, such as Bobbie and Emily. The judge adjourns the court pending a final decision. As he leaves the courtroom, Jason thanks Bobbie and Emily for their testimonies before he is confronted by a menacing A.J.

As Jason talks to one of his workers on the dock, Hannah finds him. She wants to know if she reminds Jason of anyone from Sonny's past. Jason wants to know why. Hannah explains that she is trying to figure out his motives and explains about her meeting with Jax. Jason tells her about Sonny and Brenda. She pins him down about her apparent likeness to Brenda. He tries to explain that he doesn't see Brenda in her but he can't say what Sonny sees or feels. Hannah tells Jason that she doesn't want anything to do with Sonny if he only sees Brenda when he looks at her. Jason refuses to answer Hannah's questions. She tries to explains her feelings for Sonny. Jason encourages her to talk to Sonny.

At the courthouse, the judge begins to explain his decision. As he announces that primary custody is awarded to AJ and Carly, Edward jumps up shouting gleefully that they did it while Alexis leans over to a very unhappy Jason and tells him that they will appeal. There are ways to fight this. Chaos ensues in the courtroom until the judge demands order. He threatens to fine Edward for contempt if he can't control his outbursts. The judge goes on to explain that it is clear to him that it is in Michael's best interests to also maintain contact with Jason. As such, he is awarding partial custody to Jason. He warns the family to settle future disputes amongst themselves.  Emily happily hugs Jason who thanks her for everything she did. Jason is helping Michael walk down the stairs. Jason explains to Michael about his new living arrangements. He gathers up Michael's toys and wanders off to find a snack.

At Jason's penthouse, Carly demands that Hannah hand over Michael and leave. Just as things get heated, Jason interrupts and asks Hannah to take Michael to Sonny's. When she notices the redecorated apartment, Carly is very hurt that Jason has not only let Hannah into Michael's life, but also into his. She accuses him of betrayal, which he flatly refutes. Jason then tells her that this is not her home and that she has no right to barge into his house whenever it pleases her. Carly threatens to take Michael and never return once she is free of A.J. When Jason tells her that she is welcome to move into the penthouse whenever she would like because she is Michael's mother, Carly says that she could never live with Jason and his bimbo. She then claims that she and A.J. will eventually sue for full custody and win, and then she will never return to Jason and his little slut.

Benny goes to Jason with the news of the car bomb, despite Sonny's order to the contrary. Benny then tells Jason that retaliation is necessary and Jason contends that he and Sonny will take care of the situation. After Benny departs, Jason goes across the hall, where he brings Michael downstairs. Hannah leaves, providing Jason with an opportunity to inquire as to Sonny's state of being. Not getting the desired response, Jason takes Michael and returns to his penthouse.

Sonny returns to the penthouse where Jason is waiting for him. Jason asks Sonny when he planned on telling him about the car bomb that was found. Jason and Sonny get if a fight about what to do about Moreno. Jason forces Sonny to make a decision about the business. Jason says that he won't be involved in the business but he will help him take his territory back. Sonny refuses to allow him to help. Sonny and Jason continue to argue. Benny shows up and Sonny chews Benny out for betraying him. Sonny tells Benny that Jason is to never have anything to do with the business and then kick Jason out. So, Jason leaves.

As Jason and Emily have lunch with Michael, Jason explains that although Emily has every reason to hate Carly, it hurts Michael in the process. Emily says that she doesn't know what to do. Stop hating Carly - Michael understands more than people think and he can feel when things are uneasy, Jason says. "I'm the one asking for the favor, he's the one you'd be doing it for."
Jason and Emily bring Michael home. Emily thanks Jason for making things so much easier for her. Leticia comes in to take Michael for his nap. Jason looks around at all of the flowers and looks upstairs to see Carly watching him. Their eyes lock for a moment then Carly turns away and walks back to her room (obviously hurt). Carly walks back to the banister as Jason leaves. Jason is shooting pool when Hannah shows up and challenges him to a game.

Jason explained to Hannah the reasons for his loyalty to Carly. Meanwhile, Carly and AJ exchanged wedding vows. Jason predicted that Carly's marriage would end in disaster. Later on her wedding night, Carly sneaks away and arrives at the penthouse in search of Jason. When she realizes that he isn't home, she says to herself that she is in big trouble. She doesn't think that she can do this. She lies down on the couch to wait for Jason.
