Jason & Courtney #9  March 24 - May 31, 2004 - 8 hrs

Later, Jason stops by Carly's house with a toy he fixed for Michael. Carly confides that she had expected Sonny to blow a fuse when he saw Lorenzo in the living room, but Sonny's cool manner leads Carly to conclude that Sonny was just too eager to get back to Samantha to care what Carly was doing. Carly confesses that she will love Sonny until the day that she dies. Carly and Jason discover that Morgan has a high temperature and Jason urges Carly to rush Morgan to the Emergency Room. While Morgan is being examined, Carly frets about him. She suggests they call Sonny and let him know and asks Jason to call him. Jason hesitates when she asks him where Sonny is. He tells her that Sonny went to the island and Carly guesses that Sam went with him. She gets upset and tells Jason not to bother telling Sonny about Morgan and allow him to enjoy his "little vacation." Jason feels she should call Sonny and tell him about Morgan since he is his son. Carly is against calling Sonny about anything. Jason tells her she has no right to judge Sonny when she is still with Alcazar herself. The doctor comes out into the waiting area and informs Carly that there have been complications they didn't foresee with Morgan. He tells her that Morgan just suffered a seizure and has Scarlet Fever. He has been moved to I.C.U. Jason calls Sonny on the island and tells him that Morgan is in the hospital. Carly panicked but was calm and reassuring while holding Morgan.

Sonny and Sam arrived at the hospital. Sonny went into Morgan's room, and, in the corridor, Jason suggested to Sam that she probably shouldn't be near the room, for Carly's sake. The bomber spied on Jason and Sam. Sonny has Jason take her back to the penthouse, and Sam proceeds to immediately being annoying Jason. In the car, Sam talks nonstop about her situation with Sonny, and tries to get a reaction out of Jason with her declaration of staying in Sonny's life as long as she possibly can, but Jason doesn't comply. Back at the penthouse, Sam asks him to leave, but he tells her that he's staying. She asks him what he wants, and Jason responds that he'd like her to shut up. Miffed, Sam decides to do exactly what he doesn't want, and declares that she will stay up and annoy him until he leaves.

Outside Morgan's room, Carly complains to Courtney that Samantha showed up at the hospital and let Carly know that Sonny took Sam to his island, bought her a designer dress and took her gambling. Courtney suggests that Carly should tell Sam to hit the road because Carly wants her husband back. Samantha is startled out of her sleep when Sonny arrives suddenly and discovers Sam and Jason sacked out together on the couch. When Sam frantically tries to explain the situation to Sonny, Sam is startled when Sonny merely assures Sam that he is just happy that she is safe and is not jumping to conclusions about Sam and Jason falling asleep on the couch. Sonny reports that Morgan is recovering, then heads upstairs to change. When Sonny leaves, Sam asks why Jason did not try to help her explain the situation to Sonny but Jason reminds Sam that Sonny should have no reason to misunderstand the situation. Courtney tries to convince Carly that Lorenzo's "concern" for Morgan is all an act, but Carly defends Lorenzo just as Lorenzo walks around the corner and hears the tail-end of their conversation. As Courtney informs Lorenzo that Carly wants Courtney to make an effort to make peace with Lorenzo, Jason arrives and orders Lorenzo to stay away from Courtney. Courtney declares that she doesn't want to get in the middle of another fight and storms away. Carly begs Jason to follow Courtney to apologize but Jason argues that he has no need to apologize because he hasn't done anything wrong and refuses to do as Carly asks. When Lorenzo steps in and reminds Jason that Carly has had a rough night, Sonny walks in on the argument and reminds Lorenzo that Alcazar is not a part of Morgan's family. Sonny orders Lorenzo to leave.

As she prepares to leave the hospital, Courtney runs into Sam and warns her brother's girlfriend not to try to score points with Sonny by pretending a lot of concern for a sick child. Sam protests to Courtney that she is not using any kind of manipulative ploy to make points with Sonny. Then Sam reminds Courtney that Sonny likes Sam even if Courtney doesn't approve. When Courtney accuses Sam of flaunting her affair with Sonny in Carly's face, Sam protests that it was Carly who made a big deal about Sonny's trip to the island. As Sam and Courtney argue, Sonny arrives and orders Courtney and Sam to end their argument. When Jason, Carly and Morgan arrive at Carly's house, Michael asks why Sonny didn't come with them and Carly makes the excuse that Sonny was busy. After Michael goes with Leticia to put Morgan to bed, Jason blasts Carly for lying to Michael. However, Carly insists that Sonny does have other things to do mostly with his new girlfriend! As Jason accuses Carly of trying to pay Sonny back because of Sonny's relationship with Sam, Jason warns Carly that, once Alcazar realizes that Carly's relationship with Lorenzo is just Carly's way of paying Sonny back for hurting her, Alcazar is likely to come uncorked! Later, Jason stops by Kelly's to let Mike know that Morgan has recovered and returned home. Mike quizzes Jason about Sonny's trip to the island with Sam and then Mike urges Jason to try to get Sonny to realize that his actions are only pushing Carly farther away from him. Jason reminds Mike that most of the blame rests with Alcazar and Carly and complains that Jason didn't feel that Carly's excuse of being confused after she was shot in the head held much water.

Samantha fumes at Jason because Sonny left Jason to baby-sit her while Sonny checked out Michael's report. Sam confronts Jason about how he must hate her for being with Sonny. Jason tells her he doesn't hate her at all. Sam spills her glass of wine all over the gown she is wearing that Sonny bought for her. Jason asks her what is wrong with her when she keeps spilling the glass of wine on her dress as she gets upset about her feelings for Sonny, that she doesn't feel are ever going to be reciprocated. Jason grabs the glass of wine and puts is down. Sam panics when she sees the wine staining her gown and pleads with him to help her get her dress off before the stains set in the gown. He tells her to calm down and helps her get out of her dress. Courtney walks in and sees Jason helping Sam out of her dress. Courtney tells Sam to keep away from her husband and walks into the room. Courtney accuses Sam of trying to seduce Jason by purposely spilling wine on her dress. Sam denies trying to seduce Jason and tries to persuade Courtney to listen to her side of the story. Courtney tells Jason to keep Sam away from the hospital and that is why she came over to the penthouse to warn her away. Sam accuses Courtney of being jealous of her because she is with Sonny and that she couldn't keep her marriage together with Jason herself. Courtney accuses Sam of being a manipulator and the two women get into a heated argument. Jason tells them to stop fighting. Courtney decides to leave the penthouse. Sam tells Jason to go after Courtney since it is obvious that his wife is still in love with him and is jealous of her.

Justus goes to Kelly's and hands Mike an envelope. He explains to Mike that they are Courtney and Jason's divorce papers and suggests that it may be better if Mike gives them to her instead of him since it may be hard for her to sign them. They agree that Jason and Courtney are still very much in love and that the divorce shouldn't be happening to them. Courtney goes to Kelly's and talks with Mike at the counter. She tells him she had an argument with Sam at the penthouse and that Sam looked like she was trying to seduce Jason. Mike surprises Courtney by defending Sam to her. Courtney accuses Sam of being a manipulator and that she reminds her of that woman that Mike was seeing when he was suppose to be still with her mother. Mike hands her the divorce papers and tells her that sometimes you can love someone but can't be partners with them. Justus runs into Jason and hands him his copy of the divorce papers and reminds him that once Courtney signs her own copy, their marriage will be over and suggests he talk to her first.

Sonny goes home and tells Jason about the assassin breaking into Carly's. He brings up the theory that the assassin was at the house to kill him since Carly saw the assassin at the hospital. Jason tells him that it doesn't make sense since he dropped Carly and the baby home hours before the assassin showed up. Sonny believes the assassin was there to kill Alcazar. Sonny tells Jason that if he hadn't decided to go see Michael to check on him, he may have lost his whole family and is glad he hadn't stayed with Sam like he had planned to do. Jason learned that Courtney had refused alimony as part of the divorce agreement. He wanted to provide for her and ordered Justus to redo the papers. Courtney wondered to Mike how long it would take to be able to move on with her life. Jason found Courtney at Kelly's and tried to convince her to take alimony. Courtney behaved as though she did not really want to get divorced, and, before Jason could pursue this, his cell phone rang, and he had to leave. She later shared with Mike that she sometimes could not help thinking about her miscarriage and the possibility of having a baby with Jason's eyes.

Sam chatters nonstop to Jason about her part in Sonny's life, and begs him to give her his take on the situation. Not wanting to have to deal with her, or get further involved in Sonny's situation, Jason tries as usual to stay out of it, and doesn't tell her to leave when she asks if she should. Jason returns to his Penthouse apartment, and discovers Emily waiting there for him. Emily shocks Jason when she asks for Jason's help to believe that Nikolas is dead. Later, Sonny stops by Jason's Penthouse and offers his sympathy to Emily. After Emily goes upstairs, Jason reports that the hit man was a known associate of Lorenzo's brother, Luis Alcazar. Sonny tells Jason that they need more information to tie the hit man to Lorenzo so that Carly can get Lorenzo out of her life permanently. Jason accompanies Emily to the crash site and Emily is unnerved when she finds a bunch of daffodils blooming nearby. Emily confides that she believes that Nikolas did not fall into the river and may have found shelter somewhere. Jason observes that if Nikolas' jacket was found beside the water, it could mean either that Nikolas did fall in or that Nikolas deliberately planted the jacket near the water in the hope that it would be found and searchers would presume that Nikolas fell in because Nikolas had a reason for wanting to disappear! Jason suggests that perhaps Nikolas would have a reason for wanting to disappear in order to protect Emily. But Emily insists that Nikolas would never want Emily to believe that he was dead while he was alive so that must mean that Nikolas really is dead!

Carly is surprised when Courtney shows up on Carly's doorstep. Although Carly claims that she just needs Jason, Courtney assures Carly of her support and Carly finally confesses that she has Lorenzo handcuffed to a pipe in the basement and doesn't know what to do with Alcazar now. Carly admits that Lorenzo confessed to her that it was Lorenzo who hired the assassin to blow up Sonny's car, so the Judge would realize just how dangerous Sonny was and then would award full custody of Michael and Morgan to Carly. Carly also reports that Alcazar has regained his sight. Courtney warns Carly that if Jason learns about Lorenzo's confession, Jason will just decide that it is time for Alcazar to die. Then Courtney asks if Carly is ready for that to happen. After Jason leaves Emily, he suddenly shows up at Carly's place. Although Courtney tries to convince Jason that Carly no longer needs his help, Jason declares that he is not buying Courtney's story and demands to know what is going on with Carly.

Jason comes to see Emily and has to go through the Quartermaines to go see her. Jason suggests to the family that they think about Emily and what she needs from them instead of thinking about only themselves after he overhears them fighting over ELQ. Jason comforts Emily. Emily asks him to do something for her. She asks him to tell Courtney that he loves her before something happens to him one day and he wasn't able to say those words to her. Jason promises to do that but doesn't think it will change things between them. Jason shows up at Carly's after getting her frantic message. Courtney tries to cover up what Carly is doing in the basement. Jason asks her what she is hiding from him. Courtney lies to him and tells him that Carly doesn't need his help anymore and that she will be fine. Carly comes upstairs and panics when she sees Jason in the living room. She tells him that she doesn't need him anymore and that she is okay now that Courtney was here to talk to. Jason informs her that the assassin had ties with Louis Alcazar, Lorenzo's brother and that proves that Alcazar had that bomb planted in Sonny's limo. Carly tries to change the subject and evade his questions. Jason decides to leave but makes it clear that he knows they are hiding something from him. Courtney asks him to drop by the loft and sign the divorce papers later. Jason agrees to do that. Carly doesn't know how to handle Alcazar. Courtney tells her that she needs to decide what she wants from Alcazar and if she can let him go or not. Carly tells her she will convince Alcazar that she doesn't love him and make him leave her alone and leave town.

Mike brings dinner over from Kelly's to Courtney at her loft. He notices that she is all dressed up and asks her who she invited to dinner. She tells him it is Jason, who is coming over to sign the divorce papers. Mike reminds her that not many people ever get to experience the kind of love she and Jason share and that she should think hard before signing the divorce papers. Jason shows up and sees that there is dinner ready with candles lit at the table and she is all dressed up. She tells him they can have dinner and sign the divorce papers also. Jason realized she was making the same meal as on their first date. He told her they weren't on a date and that he was just there to sign the divorce papers. She expressed that she wanted to make one more meal for her husband, since the papers couldn't be filed until the next day. At dinner, they managed to reminisce fondly about that first date. Jason said he was sorry to have caused her so much pain, bringing her into a dangerous world. He did admit that he loved her and always would but he realized he could not make her happy. Courtney stated she did not want the divorce, but she could not live with the knowledge that his work might kill him. Jason left without signing the papers. Carly called Courtney and asked her to go check on Alcazar.

As Courtney was about to leave the loft, Jason returned. Jason interrupts Courtney's mission to check on Alcazar, but she brushes her concerns of it aside long enough for the two to make up. Both agree that they want to be together, and they begin to kiss. Although not wanting the moment to end, Courtney confesses that she has to do a favor for Carly, and will return. Jason presses her on what it is she's hiding, but Courtney manages to leave without telling him about Alcazar. She runs back to Carly's house, and finds an unconscious Alcazar face-down in water in the basement. She drags him out of the water, and upstairs, where he finally regains his breathing. At that moment, Jason walks in, demanding to know what is going on. Courtney explains that Carly discovered Alcazar was behind the bombing, and chained him up in the basement, that later flooded. Jason tells Courtney to leave, and decides to handle the situation himself. Courtney resists, but Jason forces her. As he notifies Sonny that Alcazar is as good as dead, Jason takes a pillow out to muffle his gunshot. Courtney knocks Jason out before he has a chance to kill Alcazar, and then she grabs Alcazar and tells him to leave town immediately.

Having been cut off with Jason on the phone, Sonny orders Max to keep Carly at the penthouse while he rushes to find out if Jason is okay. Courtney helps Jason off the floor once Alcazar has gone. Jason can't understand why she would hit him and he is clearly angry. Sonny barges in, demanding to know where Alcazar is, and Courtney attempts to explain her actions. Sonny isn't interested, and leaves to find out where Alcazar has gone. Courtney tries again to make Jason understand, but he tells her she wanted out of his life, and she needs to stay out of it. Carly is terribly sorry for the trouble her situation has caused Courtney regarding Jason, but Courtney tells her that it was her choice. She warns Carly to get Alcazar out of town before Sonny kills him, and Carly takes off to find her husband.

When Jason returns to the Penthouse, he is angry when he finds Courtney waiting there for him. Jason demands to know why Courtney set Alcazar free, but Courtney argues that she interfered with Jason's mission to murder Lorenzo because Courtney believed that there would be no way Jason could escape being charged with Lorenzo's murder when the police learned Alcazar was dead. Jason refuses to accept Courtney's explanation. Max interrupts Jason with a message about Sonny's business. Jason warns Max never to talk about business in front of Courtney and goes out into the hall with Max. While Jason is gone, Courtney grabs the phone, calls Lucky, and suggests that Lucky take a squad car and some uniformed officers around to Lorenzo's apartment because Alcazar's life might be in danger. When Jason returns, Courtney continues to try to convince Jason that she stopped him from murdering Lorenzo to save Jason from a prison sentence for murder, but Jason angrily accuses Courtney of just making matters worse by interfering in business. Their angry voices waken Michael, who rushes into the living room and begs Jason and Courtney to quit fighting. After leaving the Penthouse, Courtney takes Michael and Morgan to Carly's house and, when Michael admits that he is upset by all of the adults arguing with each other, Courtney tries to explain to Michael that she believes that Jason will stop being angry with her when Jason has a chance to think things over. Samantha returns to the Penthouse and, finding Jason alone, Sam reports that Carly picked a fight with Sam as an excuse to go after Sonny. Sam asks Jason if he believes that Sam should leave the Penthouse if Sonny is reconciling with Carly. Jason sadly observes that, sometimes, love isn't enough to make a good life. Sometimes love is just an excuse to hurt each other.

When Sonny returns to the penthouse, Jason reports that Samantha is packing. Sonny declares that there is no hope that Sonny would ever reconcile with Carly, because Carly is still too besotted with Alcazar, and deliberately missed blowing their enemy away. Sonny explains that Ric arrived just as Sonny would have been killing Alcazar because Courtney called the police! Courtney returns to the Penthouse and Sonny accuses Courtney of betraying him. Sonny announces that he never wants to see Courtney again. Samantha creeps into the stairwell and eavesdrops on Sonny's angry exchange with his sister. Sonny warns Jason and Courtney that if Courtney crosses Sonny again, Sonny will deal with Courtney as if she was any other enemy. After Sonny has gone upstairs, Jason admits that he never understood Courtney and that love and family obviously mean nothing to Courtney. Although Courtney tearfully protests that she knows that they still love each other, Jason hands the signed divorce papers to Courtney, and orders her never to come to the Penthouse again. After Jason shuts the door in her face, Courtney breaks down in tears in the hallway.

Courtney shows up at Carly's house with a coffee and muffin for Carly. She asks Carly if she would be interested in going into a new business with her as a partner. Carly apologizes to her for getting her in the middle of her problems with Alcazar and Sonny. Courtney tells her it is okay. Courtney points out that Carly is a great businesswoman and that she would be an asset to her as a partner. Carly wonders why Courtney is suddenly so interested in doing business with her. Courtney tells her that she no longer wants a business that would force her to have to deal with either Sonny or Jason on a daily basis. Justus shows up with the legal papers she needed as well as the divorce papers for her to sign. Carly asks her what is going on. Courtney tells her that she is selling the shipping business she inherited from that wealthy woman and starting something new. Justus leaves them alone to talk, after she signs the divorce papers. She tells Carly that Sonny told her that she was no longer a sister to him and that Jason looked at her as if she was a stranger to him and wanted to end their marriage. Carly tries to persuade her not to give up on her marriage. Courtney tells her that it is too late for her and Jason and turns the tables on Carly and suggests that Carly stop being so stubborn and try to get Sonny back. Carly tells her that it is going to be hard to get Sonny back now that he is with Sam every night.

Sonny tells Jason that there is going to be a problem if Jason is still in love with Courtney. He tells Jason that she is dead to him for betraying him that way and that she should be dead to him too. Jason has a harder time ignoring his feelings for Courtney. He tells Sonny that he will not be in Courtney's life anymore and that Sonny should try to understand that is the best that he can do. Sonny doesn't really like Jason's answer but doesn't say more. Jason shows up at Kelly's to meet with someone. Mike asks to speak to him alone for a minute. Mike asks him if he is going to do what Sonny says or is he going to be a husband to Courtney and stand up for her. Jason tells Mike that his marriage to Courtney is over because they are different people who want different things.

Jason shows up and asks Sam to leave for awhile. Carly starts to defend Courtney and asks Jason to stop following Sonny's orders for once and follow his heart. Jason tells her that he can't be with Courtney anymore and that they aren't right for each other. Sonny shows up at Kelly's after Mike calls him. Sonny had told Sam about Mike's abandonment of him as a child and that he felt betrayed by him and that whenever someone betrays him he can't let them be close to him anymore. Mike asks Sonny why he can't forgive his sister and tells him that he can handle it if Sonny doesn't want to speak to him or be in his life but not to take it out on Courtney. Courtney shows up at Kelly's and hears them arguing about her. She tells Mike that she can come back later and asks him to leave it alone. Carly tried to convince Jason that he still loved Courtney, but he did not agree. He said he did love her at one time but that he no longer knew her. Jason stated that the conversation was not even about his relationship but about Carly's relationship with Sonny. Sonny ordered Mike to choose between him and Courtney. Mike chose Courtney. Sam tried to reason with Sonny as he prepared to leave but was told by him to stay out of it. Sam followed him outside but still could not get Sonny to listen to reason. She left as Mike and Courtney stepped outside, and Mike applauded the fact that Sonny was running off the girlfriend, too. Carly then arrived and told Sonny to apologize to Courtney, if not, he would not be able to see Michael and Morgan again. Sonny replied by stating that, if that were the bargain, he would just have to drag her back into court in order to assume sole custody for himself. Later, Courtney left Kelly's and spilled coffee on her clothes, making her more upset than ever. She sat on a nearby bench, and, when she looked up, Alcazar was there, offering to help.

Michael prepared a fake ransom note as he planned to stage his own kidnapping in order to bring his parents back together. In the woods, Michael discovered a well pump and then fell into the abandoned well! Courtney refuses to accept Alcazar's thanks, and tells him he's ruined her family's life. He replies that she's decent and the only reason he is still alive. Their conversation is interrupted by a frantic call from Carly, which sends Courtney running to her house to help search for Michael. The two women continue to search, but finally give in and call Sonny and Jason when they come up empty handed. Jason and Sonny both snub Courtney, and Jason leaves to search for Michael in the woods. Jason continues to search in the park for Michael, and is shocked to suddenly see the boy at the bottom of an empty well. He yells down to Michael, but gets no response. As he attempts to get a reaction, Alcazar shows up and begins to offer his assistance. They call the paramedics, and Jason jumps down the well to Michael. Unable to wake him, Jason hoists Michael up to Alcazar, who pulls him out of the well. They rush him back to Carly's and wait for the paramedics.

The doctor arrives at Michael's room and informs Jason that they need to take Michael up for a CAT scan. When Jason leaves Michael's room, Jason realizes that Courtney has been waiting outside. When Courtney announces her plan to go be with Carly, Jason orders Courtney to just go home, because Jason is afraid that if Sonny sees Courtney, it will just provoke a new fight. Courtney angrily refuses to take Jason's orders and declares that she plans to stand by Carly, whether Jason and Sonny like it or not. Then Courtney storms away Later, after Michael returns from his CAT scan, a doctor informs Sonny and Carly that Michael has internal bleeding around the kidney and the medical staff will need to keep Michael in the hospital for a few days to see if Michael needs surgery. The doctor warns Sonny and Carly that Michael has a life-threatening injury. Jason arrives a few moments later and Sonny informs Jason about the grave news they have just received. Lorenzo spots Jason waiting, Lorenzo thanks Jason for helping him to rescue Michael, but Jason coldly rebuffs Lorenzo's overtures. When Courtney also arrives, Jason informs her that Michael is bleeding internally. Later, when Jason visits Michael, Jason is surprised when Michael sadly confides that Sonny would not promise to put their family back together. Jason tries to explain things to Michael.

Courtney shows up to see Michael. Sam gives Jason a cup of coffee and sits in the waiting area with him. Jason tells Courtney to go home so that she doesn't get into a fight with Sonny, who is with Michael right now. Courtney leaves and heads to Kelly's. She tells Mike that Jason refused to let her see Michael so she wouldn't upset Sonny and get into an argument with him with Michael around. Mike isn't too happy with the news and accuses Jason of always protecting Sonny at all costs. Courtney goes to her office and hires Jan, as her new attorney to help her sell the waterfront property. She explains to Jan that she doesn't want to have to do business with her brother or her ex-husband. Justus shows up and makes an offer under some subsidiary that Sonny and Jason own that wants to buy the waterfront property. Courtney isn't too happy that Sonny and Jason tried to buy her property under another name and feels they were doing it to be underhanded. She tells Jan to sell the property for her to the other company. Courtney is unaware that they other company is owned by Alcazar!

Alcazar comes to GH to see how Michael is doing. He tells Jason that he needs to be a little nicer to him because he now owns the waterfront property that Courtney sold to him. Courtney shows up at the hospital to see Michael how Michael is doing. Jason confronts her and accuses her of getting back at him and Sonny by selling her waterfront property to Alcazar, after she accuses them of being underhanded themselves. Courtney is in shock and denies selling it knowingly to Alcazar. Jason had gone to see Michael. Michael asks to see Sam. Sam comes in at his request. Michael asks her to leave and not come back. He tells her he will have Jason give her as much money as she wants if she agrees to leave town and not come back. She tells him she never wanted to hurt him or his family and is just a friend of Sonny's. Sam leaves his room and tells Jason what Michael offered her. Jason is amused by Michael's cunning. He offers her money to leave town if she still wants it. She tells him that Sonny doesn't want her to leave town and wouldn't be happy if he found out that Jason paid her off to leave town and rejects his offer again. Emily comes to the hospital. Jason fills her in on what Michael has been up to with trying to bribe Sam into leaving town after already faking his own kidnapping to try and get his parents back together. He tells her that he is trying to back off from hanging around Michael too much and asks her to go get an update on Michael's condition. Emily brings word to Courtney and Jason that Michael has a hematoma and will need surgery. Michael's illness caused Jason to remember how sick Michael had been, shortly after being born.

Sam is devastated by the results of her pregnancy test, and even more upset when Jason shows up at her boat informing her that Sonny wants to see her. Assuming the worst, she tells him that Sonny will have to find her to end things, and she leaves. Courtney attempts to get through to Carly, and tell her that maybe she would be doing herself good by moving home. Carly replies that she's finally broken free of Sonny and is able to stand on her own feet, but Courtney reminds her that she has two children to think of as well. Jason meets with Emily at the hospital and Emily updates Jason on Michael's progress. Later, Mary bumps into Jason and Emily on her way to her job interview. Mary is shocked when Emily gives Mary a frosty reception and curtly points Mary in the direction of Audrey's office. After Mary leaves, Jason quizzes Emily about her frosty manner with Mary. Emily confesses that, although Mary was also recently bereaved, the young widow already has a new man in her bed! Jason urges Emily to give Mary the benefit of the doubt and understand that Mary is just processing her grief in a way that is different from Emily's way of handling her loss.

Courtney is surprised when she runs in to Lorenzo in the park on her way to finish the paperwork to complete transferring Courtney's waterfront property to Lorenzo. Courtney questions Lorenzo about his sudden decision to put down roots in Port Charles. Lorenzo is obviously shaken when Courtney smugly informs Alcazar that the only reason that Carly is suddenly interested in Lorenzo is because Carly is now trying to push Sonny away. Then Courtney informs Lorenzo that Sonny has asked Carly to move back into the penthouse with him. Lorenzo informs Courtney that Carly did come to Alcazar the previous night but, when Lorenzo asked Carly to reconsider her relationship with Lorenzo, Carly just bolted out of Alcazar's apartment. When Courtney smugly comments that that was a good decision by Carly, Lorenzo challenges Courtney to make a fair assessment of Alcazar's relationship with Carly. Lorenzo admits that it was foolish of him to begin his relationship with Carly by kidnapping her. However, since then, Alcazar argues that he has treated Carly far better than Sonny ever has! Lorenzo reminds Courtney that Sonny has repeatedly cheated on Carly, has used Carly's children against her, verbally abused Carly, and flaunted Sonny's affair with Samantha in front of both Carly and her children! Lorenzo warns Courtney that if Carly returns to live with Sonny at the penthouse, Carly will be returning to a husband who is both a bully and a tyrant! Lorenzo reminds Courtney that the only person who is thinking about what Carly needs is Lorenzo! Then Lorenzo storms away.

Samantha reads a brochure about pregnancy. Sam is surprised when Jason suddenly arrives on her boat and Sam hastily tries to hide her brochure, then demands to know what Jason is doing aboard her boat again! Jason demands to know why Sam failed to meet Sonny at the Penthouse the previous evening, as they had agreed. Samantha declares that, when she arrived at the Penthouse, she found Sonny with Carly, making plans for Carly to move back to the Penthouse. After trading insults with Jason, Samantha declares that she has changed her mind again and she will go to Sonny's Penthouse after all, so that she can have a chance to pack the belongings she left at the Penthouse. Jason arrives to escort Samantha back to her boat, Jason is stunned when Sam calmly announces that she has agreed to remain as Sonny's mistress. However, before Sam leaves the Penthouse, she comes close to fainting and Jason demands to know what is wrong with her!

Emily runs into Courtney at the hospital. She tells Courtney that Michael is doing much better and that he may be released as soon as tomorrow or the day after. Emily tells Courtney that she thinks she is the best thing that ever happened to Jason and asks if there is any hope they could reconcile sometime in the future. Courtney tells her that she wishes that it wasn't like this way but that she and Jason seem to hit a wall when it comes to their lifestyles and whether they can live together. Jason finds Sam in the penthouse waiting for Sonny. Sam is packing her bags she left at Sonny's and tells Jason that she and Sonny are going to keep seeing each other away from the penthouse despite the fact that Carly is moving back in with the boys. Jason is surprised by this but acts like it is there business. However, Sam tries to hide how upset she really is about this new arrangement. She starts to stumble and has a weak spell as she tries to avoid Jason's questions and almost looks like she is going to pass out. Jason notices she is light headed and asks her what is wrong with her. She lies and tells him she hasn't eaten in 24 hours or slept well lately. Jason tells her that Sonny didn't dump her like she thought he was going to do so she should be happy. Sam tries to avoid answering his questions and tells Jason that she can handle it if Sonny and Carly work things out and fall in love with each other again and that she will leave town and move on. Jason accuses her of lying and asks her why she feels the need to lie to him. She tells him that she is fine and is going to go back to her boat now. Jason tells her that Carly and Sonny share a bond because of their children that she doesn't have with Sonny.

Courtney shows up and Carly tells her that Sonny plans to keep Sam as his mistress on the side. Courtney is surprised by Sonny's behavior. Carly tells her that she will move in with Sonny for the sake of her children. Carly leaves Courtney to hang out with Michael. Sonny returns home and gets the cold shoulder from Jason. Jason tells him that Sam is probably at her boat. Sonny asks him to tell him what is bothering him. Jason tells him that he doesn't like it that Sonny is lying to Michael. Sonny doesn't understand how he is lying to him. Jason explains to Sonny that Michael is going to figure out that Sonny and Carly are faking it and that he really wants his parents to be like they were before, in love with each other. Sonny tells Jason that he needs Sam to stay in his life to protect him from his feelings for Carly. He tells Jason that he is afraid to let Carly get close to him again because she has the capacity to hurt him deeply like she did when she hooked up with Alcazar before. Sonny ends up going to Sam's boat and waiting for her in her room, unaware that there are pregnancy brochures laying on the table just a few feet away. Jason goes to the hospital and sees Courtney sitting with Michael. Michael asks Courtney to stay when she makes an excuse to leave when she sees Jason. Michael is happy and tells them that his parents are getting back together and asks them if they are going to get back together so they can all be one big happy family again. Jason and Courtney don't know what to tell him.

Michael had Jason and Courtney as visitors at the hospital, and he expressed his desire for their reconciliation. After running into Alcazar on the docks, Carly found Courtney and mentioned knowing about the sale of the waterfront property. Carly also said she wished she could hate Alcazar. Courtney returned to her office and was visited by Ric. Ric threatened that she would be arrested if Alcazar was caught moving drugs through her former property. Alcazar stated to an associate that drugs would not be part of his business in town. Courtney called a meeting with her buyer and announced she would not be selling to him. Suddenly, the lights went out, and the two were attacked by cloaked figures wielding machine guns! Alcazar threw his body over Courtney as protection. At the hospital, Sam decided to terminate her pregnancy. Emily, there as a volunteer, saw Sam. Sam bolted, but Emily learned of Sam's plans from a staff member. Jason found Emily, upset, on the waterfront. She said she was thinking about the baby she could never have with Nikolas and wondered how anyone could decide to purposely get rid of a baby. Jason wanted to know why she was thinking about the topic, and she told him that Sam was pregnant and planning to terminate the pregnancy.

Alcazar and Courtney continue to argue about their business arrangement when suddenly the lights dim and two men enter with guns. Alcazar covers Courtney and pushes her behind the desk, saving her life from the hail of bullets. Afterward, she is stunned by his actions and wonders who the gunmen were after. Alcazar assumes it was a disgruntled former business associate after him, but when the police arrive, Ric insinuates that perhaps it was Sonny. Sonny arrives at Courtney's office and asks if she's alright. Ric immediately shares with Sonny the fact that Courtney sold the property to Alcazar. Courtney attempts to explain, but Sonny leaves. Later he meets Ric on the docks, and Ric warns him that if Alcazar ships anything illegal, Sonny and Courtney will go down as well. Meanwhile, Carly rushes over to make sure that Courtney is safe. Courtney tells her that Alcazar saved her life, and Carly warns her to not trust him. They consider that Alcazar set the scene up to look like the hero for Carly, but Courtney says he actually seemed sincere. Courtney wonders how she deals with the fact that a man she despises saved her life.

Sam goes to the abortion clinic to end her pregnancy, but is unable to go through with it. Just after she decides against it, Jason arrives, having been notified of Sam's situation by Emily. He takes Sam back to her boat, and she begins to cry and attempt to get his sympathy for her situation. She asks him if he thinks she's trash, and although he says no, he asks her if she got pregnant to trap Sonny. Sam reels at his accusation, and cries further for herself and her situation. Jason demands that she tell Sonny about the baby, and discuss things with him, but she says she can't. She claims she doesn't want to ruin Sonny's life with his family, but Jason tells her that lying to him is worse, and that he will find out. Just as he says this, Sonny walks into the room.

Carly and Courtney discuss Alcazar, unaware that he is listening from the doorway. Courtney doesn't want to owe him for saving her life, but Carly warns her to not trust Alcazar at all. They continue to discuss him, but move to Carly's situation with Sonny. Carly says she'd love to see Sam go down, and Courtney laughs but points out that the only reason Sonny is with Sam is because he was angry at Carly. She's sure that once Carly and Sonny live together again, they will fall back in love. Carly tells her she isn't planning on it, and that her priority is now her children. She admits that Alcazar is a safety net for her, but says she has to concentrate on her sons.

Jason warns Sam about lying to Sonny, and demands she tell him the truth about her pregnancy. Sonny interrupts them, but Sam covers and says she wanted Jason to know she wouldn't stand in the way of Sonny's family. Sonny asks Sam what is wrong, and she tries to say nothing, but instead faints. Sonny returns to the hospital, and Jason is stunned to realize that Sam didn't tell him she was pregnant. Before he has a chance to say anything to Sonny, Carly walks up and the two declare to Jason their brave front for the sake of their sons. Jason runs into Courtney outside Michael's hospital room. Courtney takes the opportunity to inform Jason that she resents the 24-hour guards Jason posted around he, following the shoot-out at her office. Jason argues that it isn't so easy for him to let go. Jason surprises Courtney by suddenly asking her if she would tell him that she was pregnant if she had it all to do over again. Courtney wonders why Jason would suddenly be bringing up their lost child at this particular moment. Courtney wonders if the beginning of the end for them was when Courtney chose not to tell Jason about the baby, but Jason reassures Courtney that he now understands her reasons for keeping their baby a secret from him.

Sonny confides to Jason that Sonny believes that something is going on with Sam and that Sonny wants Jason to keep an eye on Sam. Jason tries to tell Sonny that Jason knows what is going on with Sam, but Sonny tells Jason that he can't go into it all while Sonny is preparing to take Michael home then Sonny leaves to check on Michael. Later, when Emily spots Jason at the Hospital, Jason confides that Sonny still does not know about Sam's condition! Emily assures Jason that she just babysat for Alexis and that Alexis seems to be doing a fine job as a single mother so perhaps Sam would fare as well! But Jason strongly assures Emily that he knows that Sonny would never make the choice to allow Sonny's child to grow up without Sonny! When Samantha returns to her boat and struggles to get her gear back up on deck, Jason arrives and angrily accuses Samantha of hauling heavy equipment around because she is trying to lose Sonny's baby! Jason returns Sam to her cabin and angrily orders Sam to pack to leave the boat immediately. Sam protests that she was merely scouting a possible salvage job and had not done anything to endanger her child because she only cruised around the harbor in a launch. As Sam and Jason argue, Jason blurts out the news that Courtney lost her baby when she swam too far in water that was too cold. Jason concludes that, since Sam can not be trusted to take care of that baby, Jason will have to tell Sonny that Samantha is pregnant!

Courtney meets with her lawyer, Jen McNeil. Jen arranged to have Courtney be interviewed by some reporter from the Port Charles Herald. Courtney is nervous about what to say to the reporter about the new charitable foundation she has set up for underprivileged children. Jen advises her to stay calm and just tell the reporter about what her mission is for the foundation and that it can't help but get promoted in the paper and bring in donations. The female reporter shows up. She is friendly to Jen and Courtney. Courtney is blindsided when the reporter asks her accusing questions about whether this foundation is a front for organized crime and asks Courtney questions about Sonny and Jason's involvement. Courtney insists that it isn't a front for organized crime and that she has no involvement with Sonny or Jason's business. The reporter doesn't seem to believe her. Courtney asks her to leave. Jen suggests to Courtney that she change her last name back to her maiden name of Mathews and that it will help distance her from the Morgan name which is attached so much to Sonny in the community. Courtney is reluctant to change her name back to Mathews but she agrees to think about it.

Jason confronts Sam about not telling Sonny that she is pregnant. Sam turns on Jason and tells him that this is none of his business and that he doesn't understand her situation. Jason confides in her about how Courtney kept her pregnancy a secret from him and that by the time he found out about it, Courtney had lost their child. He tells Sam that if he had known about the pregnancy he could have protected her better from going after Alcazar on her own and getting injured. Sonny calls Sam on her cell-phone. Jason overhears her on the phone telling Sonny to stop by the next day and see her. Jason asks her why she didn't tell Sonny she was pregnant on the phone. She tells him that she can't tell someone news like that over the phone. She tells Jason that she will tell Sonny when the perfect time comes along. Jason tells her that there is no perfect time and that Sonny has a right to know and be allowed to help take care of her. Sam tells him she will tell Sonny soon. Jason tells her that if she doesn't tell Sonny soon, he will tell him himself. Jason shows up at Courtney's office. He tells her that she needs to call Carly soon and try to be there for her because something is going to happen soon where Carly is going to need her love and support. Courtney asks him what Sonny did now to Carly and realizes that Jason won't tell her the big secret. She gets upset with Jason and tells him that she sometimes wishes that she never met him or fell in love with him. Jason is hurt by what she says to him.

Emily met Jason at the church, shortly after Nikolas and Mary had left, and let him know that Jax was aware of Sam's pregnancy. Courtney blurted out to Jason that she wished she had never met him because of the lasting effects of her affiliation with him. Jason was supportive when Courtney mentioned she might change her name back to her maiden name. He made sure she understood, though, that he would always be her ex-husband and that Sonny would always be her brother, so it was up to her how she dealt with it. Once he left, she couldn't help but think of him. Emily coaxed Jason to try and hold a relationship with Courtney. Jason and Courtney later ran into each other in the rain, and he exploded, among other things, about her assistance in saving Alcazar's life. He yelled that he just didn't want to fight anymore. Suddenly, passion set in, and Jason pulled her into a kiss. Jason pulls back and says that it doesn't change anything, but Courtney doesn't understand why they can't get past their differences. Jason tells her that they have to start being able to get over each other, and says goodbye. Courtney tearfully returns the goodbye, and goes to unload her sorrows to her dad. Mike suggests that if she can find happiness with Jason, she work things out because she truly loves him.

Jason warns Emily to be careful with Mary. Jason arrives at the penthouse, and Sonny asks why he didn't tell him about Sam's pregnancy. Jason explains that Sam was supposed to tell him herself, and Sonny let's Jason know that they have to find Sam in order to see if the baby is his. Jason begins working on the arrangements as Sonny is called to court to testify in Faith's trial. Carly returns from an encounter with Alcazar in the park, and wants to know if Jason is searching for Sam. Clearly uncomfortable, Jason attempts to explain that Sonny must speak to Sam, but Carly should not think the worst. Naturally, she does, and she pleads with Jason to please leave Sam alone and gone.

Carly is shocked when Jason refuses to drop the search for Samantha when Carly begs Jason to let Sam just stay gone. Later, Carly meets Courtney in the park and confides to Courtney that Sonny has ordered Jason to find Sam. Carly suggests that, perhaps, in a way, Sam's return would benefit Carly in the long run, since Sam's presence would make it easier for Carly to remember WHY her relationship with Sonny always ends up with a lot of hurt all around. However, Courtney observes that it appears to her that Carly has already lost her heart again to Sonny. Courtney urges Carly to level with Sonny about Carly's feelings for Sonny. Courtney goes on to suggest that Sonny might possibly be willing to admit that he, also, is still in love with Carly. But Carly reminds Courtney that all she and Sonny seem to do is bring out the worst in each other.

Jason arrives to report to Sonny that he tracked Samantha down at a convent in Costa Rica. Sonny explains that, since Sonny is tied up in court, Jason should fly to Costa Rica and get Sam. Jason confides that Carly has guessed that Jason is tracking Samantha down for Sonny. Jason reports that, although Carly doesn't yet know that Sam is pregnant, Sonny would be wise to let Carly know the facts now! Jason arrives at the convent in Costa Rico. As Jason makes inquiries about Samantha McCall, the Mother Superior leaps to the conclusion that Jason is the father of Sam's baby and advises Jason that if he were willing to take Sam's baby, Sam might be willing to give the baby to Jason. The Mother Superior announces to Sam that the father of her child is waiting to see her. Although Sam declares that her baby's father is the last person she would want to see, the Mother Superior encourages Samantha to at least consult with the baby's father about the child's future. When the Mother Superior goes to get Jason, Samantha tries to slip away by climbing through a window but Jason arrives before Samantha can make good her escape and orders Sam to stay where she is!

Jax offers to help Courtney's new foundation for underprivileged children by putting his name in as a chairperson and to donate money. Tracey interferes and tells Courtney that Jax won't be helping her with her foundation and tries to get her to leave. Jax tells Tracey that she has no right to interfere with his business. Tracey tries to get him to change his mind about helping Courtney by pointing out that Courtney was once a stripper and has no experience running a business or a charitable foundation. Tracey accuses Courtney of using this foundation to launder Sonny and Jason's money through it. Courtney assures Jax that she is not involved in any of her brother's or ex-husband's businesses. Jax tells her to keep it that way and he will have no problem. He writes out a check to Courtney. Courtney is still reluctant to be associated with Jax but when she sees Tracey's reaction to her, she shakes his hand and tells him they have a deal. Courtney asks Jax what he gets out of doing this for her and what he expects her to do to return the favor. Jax tells her that he will come up with something later. Courtney decides to get Tracey upset by insinuating that she will return the favor in a possible sexual way. Jax goes along with her innuendo to spite Tracey as well. Courtney leaves.

Sam tries to sneak out the window when she is told that the father of her child is outside the room waiting to see her. As she is trying to climb out the window, Jason comes in the room and stops her. She tells Jason that Sonny isn't going to want this baby when he finds out she is pregnant. Jason tells her that Sonny already knows she is pregnant and that Jax told him. He tells her that Jax thinks he could very well be the father of her child. Sam worries that Sonny must think she is a slut for sleeping with Jax that time and tries to explain that she slept with Jax and had unprotected sex with him when they both thought they were going to die in the hotel fire. Jason tells her that he doesn't think she is a slut and doesn't care what happened either way. Sam insists that Sonny doesn't want this child and that he definitely won't want it if he thinks Jax could be the father. Jason tries to get through to her that Sonny will want to take care of her and the child if it is his. Sam doesn't believe it and insists that the best thing for the child is to be adopted and raised by a loving family. Jason tells her she isn't going to give the child away. Sonny gets a call from Jason informing him that he found Sam and where they are.

Carly calls Courtney and asks her to come over. She tells Courtney that Sonny went off to be with Sam in Costa Rico. Courtney disagrees with what Sonny is doing but tries to keep Carly from doing something impulsive. Carly tells her that she can't deal with Sonny bringing Sam back with him and thinks she should just take the kids and leave town. Courtney advises her to not do something irrational and that she agreed to do this for Michael's sake. Carly leaves to get some air and Courtney stays with the children. Jax comes by and sees her with baby Morgan and tells her that she is good with children. She asks him what he is doing there. Meanwhile, Sam tries to run away from Jason again to avoid any more discussions about Sonny. She sees a nun handing a baby over to an adoptive couple and how happy they reacted to having a baby to raise. Jason tells Sam to stop running away and deal with what is going on.

Jax visited with Courtney, who was babysitting Morgan. After Jax held the baby, Courtney said she couldn't imagine Jax raising a child. Courtney also revealed she had been pregnant but miscarried. The two discussed her foundation. Courtney arrives and Carly delivers the shocking news that Sam is pregnant. Courtney is immediately sympathetic to Carly, but suddenly realizes that Carly's family could be in the clear. Courtney announces the possibility of Jax being the father of Sam's baby, and assures Carly that if it's the case, all will be well again soon. Carly counters with the question of what if Jax is not the father? She pointedly informs Courtney that she has no intention of standing by while Sonny raises a child with Sam. Sam argues with both Sonny and Jax at the convent, and tells them they have no say over her baby. She runs from them, and in the process of trying to get away, falls down the stairs.

While Sam is with the doctor, the nun accuses Jason of being dishonest and allowing her to believe he was the father. She lets it be known that Jason seems to be the best option of the three for Sam, but Jason assures her the baby can not be his. The nun then turns her anger on Sonny and Jax, chastising both men for their arrogance and selfishness. After the doctor is finished, Sam is told that she and her unborn child are both fine, but she is unable to get past both men's lack of regard for her. She calls for Jason in order to get advice, and tells him that she almost thinks that something going wrong with the baby is the best option for everywhere. Jason tells her not to think that way, and feels sorry for Sam. He helps her get her things together, and takes her back to Port Charles. They go to GH to have another examination, and the two run into a surprised Courtney as the get off the elevator.

Carly rushes out and meets Courtney. Carly is upset as she has just had a confrontation with Sonny over Sam's pregnancy. Courtney feels for her friend, and is even supportive when Carly announces her plan to fix the DNA test if the baby doesn't belong to Jax. Courtney admits she can understand, but warns Carly to be careful. Jason and Sam go to GH for a checkup. Courtney witnesses them, and overhears the nurse assume Jason is Sam's husband. As Sam leaves for her exam, Courtney confronts Jason, but doesn't get any answers. Jax arrives to take his place by Sam, and offers her money for the baby if it is his. Disgusted, Sam tells him that while she'd use the baby against him for everything, she'd never do it to Sonny. Sonny arrives, and the three begin to argue. The doctor returns to assure Sam her baby is fine, and Jason volunteers to watch her and let her stay with him. Sonny warns Jax that he'll be dead if he does anything to hurt Sonny's child, but Jax ignores him. He heads to the park, where he runs into Courtney. Courtney tells him she thinks he'll be a great father, and has a feeling things might work out for him.

As Courtney goes out for a run with Rosie, she runs into Jax at the Gazebo and is surprised when Jax announces that he has a mutually beneficial offer to propose. Jax tells Courtney that he wants to be more than a figurehead on the board of her charitable foundation. When Courtney reminds Jax that she does not trust him, Jax reminds Courtney that she will have trouble finding people who are willing to sit on the board of a charitable foundation started by a crime lord's sister. Courtney coldly suggests that Jax call her assistant for an appointment, and dashes off after Rosie. Later, Alexis arrives at Courtney's office and informs her that Jax hired Alexis to prepare legal work that will exclude Courtney's criminal brother and ex-husband from participating in the foundation. As Courtney assures Alexis that neither Sonny not Jason will be involved in the foundation, Jax arrives and is surprised when Alexis declares that they will also need to exclude Carly from participating because Carly is married to a mob boss.

When Courtney refuses to even consider excluding Carly, Alexis advises Jax that, if Carly takes part in the foundation, the specter of the mob will hover over every move that Courtney makes. Before Courtney can respond, Ric arrives and Courtney blasts Ric for barging in to her office during a business meeting. Courtney is surprised when Ric announces that he is there as an official representative of the District Attorney's office because he believes that Courtney's charitable foundation would become a front to launder money for Sonny and Jason! Alexis accuses Ric of just following Alexis around for no other purpose than to create trouble for Alexis. Alexis points out that checking on the foundation's paperwork is the job of the State Attorney General's office. Ric reminds Alexis that the case against Faith would have been wrapped up by now if Alexis had not filed for a continuance and accuses Alexis of dragging her feet on wrapping up Faith's case because Alexis is looking for excuses to keep getting close to Ric. Then Ric accuses Alexis of deliberately inserting herself into Courtney's Foundation because Alexis knew that Ric would investigate any activity that could be used as a front for Sonny's criminal activities. Alexis is stunned when Ric announces to Courtney and Jax that Alexis is just protesting because Alexis is indulging in a bizarre mating ritual!

Alexis demands to know if Ric has a search warrant to investigate the foundation's paperwork. When Ric admits that he arrived without a search warrant, but can get one, Alexis warns Courtney to watch out for Ric's tricks. Courtney reminds Ric that Alexis is Jax's attorney and, since Jax will be serving on the Foundation's board, Alexis would, of course, have legitimate reasons to also be advising Jax about his involvement with the foundation! Ric declares that he will get a court order to review the corporation's funding. After Ric leaves, Jax points out that Alexis appears to have changed sides rather quickly after Ric began voicing his suspicions about Sonny and Jason's possible involvement in Courtney's charitable foundation. Alexis declares that if Ric is opposed to Courtney's foundation, Alexis is in favor of it! Alexis promises that she will make sure the Foundation is squeaky clean and makes a hasty exit. Later, Courtney and Jax congratulate each other about their new partnership, and share a hug.

When Jason returns to his Penthouse with groceries for Samantha, he blows up when he learns that Sam plans to go back to her boat to do some work. When Jason refuses to allow Sam to go, Sam angrily orders Jason to get his nose out of Sam's business! Jason accuses Sam of deliberately talking about being pregnant where Michael could overhear, but Sam claims she is innocent of Jason's charges. As Sam and Jason argue, Carly suddenly bursts in and threatens to get even with Sam if Sam ever hurts one of Carly's children again. Carly is surprised when Jason orders Carly to quit jumping all over Sam! After Sam storms away, Carly angrily asks Jason what became of Jason's long-standing friendship with Carly! Carly accuses Jason of turning against Carly because Jason is always leaning over backwards to give Sam every benefit of the doubt. Jason argues that the only important person at this point is Sam's baby! Carly finally agrees with Jason but warns Jason to keep Sam away from Carly's children.

After Carly storms away and Sam returns to the living room, Jason warns Sam to watch her mouth whenever Sonny's family is around. Sam reminds Jason that if Sam had had her way about all of this, Sam would be far, far away by now! Sam suddenly declares that she will take the paternity test today! When Jason and Sam leave for the hospital, they run into Michael and Sonny, returning from the park, and Michael apologizes again to Sam. After Michael goes inside, Jason reports to Sonny that they are headed to the hospital to get an amniocentesis to determine the paternity of Samantha's baby. After Sonny returns to his Penthouse, Sam blasts Jason for not keeping quiet until after they had the test results! When Sam and Jason arrive at the hospital, Jax and Courtney arrive as well, because Dr. Meadow's office called Jax to let him know that Sam had scheduled the paternity test. Courtney is surprised when she realizes that Jax appears to be counting heavily on being the father of Sam's baby! When Jax thanks Courtney for accompanying him to the hospital, Courtney accuses Jax of being as conceited as Ric, and reminds Jax that she has her own business at the Hospital. Courtney runs into Jason, waiting for the results of Sam's tests outside the genetics lab. When Courtney asks what Jason is doing there, Jason replies: "Same as you. Waiting for Carly!" Courtney and Jason spot Carly moving toward the lab, disguised as a doctor. Jason and Courtney grab Carly and try to convince her to give up her plan to meddle with Sam's DNA tests.

Carly, dressed in a mask and scrubs is caught by Jason and Courtney trying to go into the lab to switch the paternity test results to show that Jax is the baby's father. Jason tells her it is not the way to go about this whole situation and that Sonny would find out eventually that the baby was his if it really his baby and that her cover-up would tear the family apart even more. Carly tries to justify what she is doing to Jason and Courtney who disagree with her. Carly accuses Jason of being Sam's new best friend and for taking her side over her. Jason tells her he isn't taking sides and doesn't think Sam got pregnant on purpose. Carly worries that Sonny will choose Sam and the baby over his own family if he knows he is the baby's father. Carly storms off, dressed in the scrubs.

Jason shows up at the chapel. Sonny tells him that Carly is going to leave him if he turns out to be the baby's father. Jason asks him how he knows that. Sonny tells him about seeing Carly just a few minutes ago. Sonny is afraid of what this will do to Michael if Carly leaves him and that he is confident he is going to turn out to be the father since he slept with Sam more recently and more often than Jax did. Jason promises to make sure that Michael ends up o.k. Sonny fears that Michael will feel betrayed by him the same way he felt betrayed by his own father when he kept leaving and went back on his promises. Jax and Courtney talk more in the hallway at GH. Alexis shows up to talk business about the foundation. Alexis complains about Ric's interference in her cases right now to deal with and tells her about the paternity test. Alexis questions his ability to raise a child on his own without a mother. Courtney defends Jax's choice to raise the baby without Sam, who was willing to give her baby away without telling either Jax or Sonny about it. Alexis defends Sam and gets defensive about how they seem to be trashing the mother for no good reason.

Courtney meets with Jason in the park. She asks Jason to butt out of what is going on with Sam if it turns out that Jax is the baby's father. She defends Jax to Jason and tells him that Jax is a good man and would make a good father as well. Jax left the hospital and ran into Courtney in the park. He told her he would donate part of his gambling profits to her foundation if she accompanied him to Monte Carlo. Finally, she agreed. Their conversation on the plane led to a discussion about losing a child: Jax, the child he thought might be his, and Courtney, the child she miscarried. Jax comforted her and remarked on her youth and beauty. He suggested that they concentrate on new beginnings and then leaned in for a kiss.

Jason admitted to Sonny that he tampered with the results and that Sonny actually was the father. Sonny was furious at the interference. Jason insisted this was the only way for Sonny to hold his family together. Jason reminded Sonny that Michael and Carly used to be his family and that he had done nothing when Sonny took them away; now, Sonny should do everything possible to keep from losing them. Jason said he would pretend to be the father and even lie to Carly, figuring she would eventually believe him since he had never lied to her before. Sonny and Jason went to Sam to tell her what had happened with the test results and to discuss the plan.

Courtney accompanies Jax to Monte Carlo for a night of fun and gambling. Despite his romantic attempts, Jax is warned by Courtney that she has no interest in him outside of business. While there, a blond assumes Courtney is Jax's girlfriend, and when Courtney tells her otherwise, the woman warns her about Jax's seductive ways. Jax handily wins at the tables, and prepares to hand over half of his prize to Courtney for her foundation. Before he gives it to her, though, he proposes a bet: he will donate $10 million to her foundation if she can resist him for three months. Courtney takes the bet, and Jax promptly kisses her.

Sam is stunned by the news that Jason fixed the paternity test, and even more shocked when she hears his plan. She turns to Sonny, and can't believe that he is willing to go along with telling everyone that Jason is the father of the baby. Sam resists their suggestion, and Jason pointedly tells her that Carly will leave Sonny, and he will not allow Michael to be devastated again by another familial breakup. Carly enters the hospital room, demanding to know why Sonny is forcing Jason to baby sit Sam. Jason is able to calm Carly down, and Sonny leaves with her. Jason continues to try and convince Sam, and is finally able to make headway when he tells her of his love for Michael. Sam says she will consider the situation since Sonny will not allow her to give the baby up for adoption, but she wants to think alone on her boat. Later, Jason calls Sonny with the news that Sam and her boat are gone.

Sonny flips at Jason on the news of Sam's disappearance, but Jason goes back to his house and finds her on the couch. She tells him that she thinks it's a bad idea to play out the lie, but he reminds her that he'll be a good father to the baby. Sam warns Jason that she is who she is and sooner or later she's blow Sonny's family apart to get him to be with her. Jason tells Sam that Sonny has to stay with his family for his sons' sakes, and Sam responds by telling Jason that he must convince Sonny that she knows what's best, and she runs out of the apartment, ready to leave town and give the baby away. At the airport, she has second thoughts, however, and returns.

Jax and Courtney return from Monte Carlo, and Courtney calls him on his attempts to seduce her. She tells him that he'll never win, but Jax remains convinced that he will succeed in the end. They land in Port Charles and he asks her to dinner. At first she resists, but remembering the terms of the bet, she finally agrees. On their way to dinner, they get sidetracked by Carly's call, and instead go to her club where Courtney breaks the news of the bet to her friend. Carly warns her that Jax is used to getting what he wants, but Courtney assures Carly that she can handle him. Jax is amused at the women's reactions to his deal, and later gets Courtney to dance with him. As the two banter on the dance floor, Courtney's fun is ended by the arrival of Jason, who looks less than pleased to find her with Jax.

Jason informs Sonny of Sam's decision, and when Sonny demands that Sam be found, Jason explodes at him over what he'll do to Michael. Sonny apologizes, but yells back that he can't have his child adopted by strangers. Jason leaves as Sonny prepares to break the news to Carly that Sam is pregnant with his child. Carly returns from her club to a sour-faced Sonny, and wants to know what is wrong. As Sonny prepares to tell her the truth, Sam rushes in and announces to them both that Jason is the father of her unborn child.

At the Cellar, Jax coaxes Courtney into sharing a dance with him, just as Jason arrives, looking for Carly. Jax manages to mention his trip with Courtney to Monte Carlo in front of Jason. After Jason leaves, Courtney blasts Jax for deliberately flaunting their trip abroad in Jason's face and predicts that Jax will never be able to win his bet following that cheap stunt. However, Jax points out to Courtney that Sonny and Jason regard Courtney merely as part of their territory and Jax reserves the right to enjoy watching Jason and Sonny choke on the fact that Jax and Courtney are keeping company. When Courtney accuses Jax of being conceited, Jax reminds Courtney that, if she really wants to fall back in line as a good little mob moll, Jax will be happy to take his $10 million and his conceited self elsewhere! Courtney argues that her life does not revolve around Sonny, but it appears that Jax's life does revolve around Jax's enmity with Sonny! Courtney declares that Jax's irritating habits make her even more determined to win her bet with Jax but Jax confidently predicts that he will eventually get Courtney into bed, and that she will find the relationship a lot more enjoyable than her relationship with Jason ever was. Later, Jax walks Courtney home through the park and kisses her good night beside the Gazebo.

Jason suddenly arrives. Before Jason can say anything, Sonny declares that Sam has already filled them on the details and then slugs Jason to make his point. As Sonny and Jason argue, Sam tries to intervene, but Jason declares that he made his choice and is prepared to deal with the consequences. Then Jason hustles Sam back across the hall. However, after Sam and Jason leave, Carly points out to Sonny that if Sonny is really finished with Samantha, it looks strange that this latest news would be eating Sonny up inside. When Jason gets Sam home, he blasts her for going to Sonny and Carly with her fake confession without letting Jason know that Sam had decided to go along with the charade about her baby's paternity. Meanwhile, Carly asks Sonny if he wishes that he was the father of Sam's baby. When Sonny declares that the current development will be what is best for all of them, Carly reminds Sonny that Courtney will end up being very hurt if Jason is, indeed, the father of Sam's baby at the same time that Courtney believes she can no longer have children! Sam reminds Jason that the whole charade was Jason's idea. However, when Jason admits that he could respect Sam for her decision to just leave town, Sam offers to go back across the hall and let Carly know the whole truth! Jason tells Sam it would no longer be fair for Carly to learn the truth now. Jason promises that he will care for Sam and her baby as if they were his own. Then Jason declares that he needs to go tell Courtney about the baby and leaves the apartment.

Jason spots Courtney near the Gazebo in the park, following Courtney's date with Jax. When Courtney notices the bruise on Jason's cheek, Jason admits that Sonny hit him! She asks him why. He tells her that Sam told Sonny that he is her baby's father. Courtney assumes that Sam was lying and Sonny took her word over Jason. Jason lies and tells her that he is the father of Sam's baby and makes up some story about when it happened. Courtney seems to take the news as well as can be expected. She tells him she understands that Sam would have made a pass at him but she can't believe he would sleep with her after she slept with Sonny and Jax. Courtney asks him if he slept with Sam to keep her away from Sonny. Jason goes along with her guess and tells her his intention was to show that Sam was a slut and keep Sonny from wanting to be with her anymore but never intended for Sam to get pregnant.

Courtney tells him that he shouldn't feel guilty about sleeping with Sam because they were already separated and she had been dating another man and had given Jason mixed signals about their marriage. Jason is in tears when he sees how much Courtney is trying to hide her hurt feelings and taking some of the blame when he is lying all along. She tells him that finally she will have to let him go. Jason returns to his place. Sam notices he is upset and asks him if he wants to talk about it. He tells her that Courtney handled it better than he thought. Jason gets down to business to keep his mind off Courtney. He tells Sam that she can have the guest room with a little den attached to it to use as a nursery for the baby and that she can hire a nanny to help her care for the baby when it is born. He also tells her that he will give her a credit card account and tells her where he keeps cash in the desk in case she needs it. He surprises her when he asks her if she is free next Thursday. When she says she is, he tells her that they will get married that day then.

Courtney calls Jax to meet her at the park. He finds her sitting in the gazebo. He asks her what is wrong when he notices she has been crying. She tells him that Jason is the father of Sam's baby. Jax starts to slam Jason's character. Courtney finds herself defending Jason and what he did to Jax. Jax suggests that she should get her revenge against Jason by dating him and maybe even sleeping with him. Courtney tells him she isn't interested in revenge and tells him that Jason is loyal to a fault but is a good person who did love her. Jason told Sam that they would be getting married the next week, and she was completely against it. Mac interrupted them as well, and Jason not so subtly hinted for Sam to leave, which she did. Courtney defended Jason when Jax criticized her ex. Their discussion proceeded to turn towards his cynicism about love. Courtney stated she was simply sad, not cynical, and she left him alone in the park. Soon, Sam wandered by, and Jax provoked her into an argument, where she pronounced that Jason was twice the man, compared to Jax. Angry, she exclaimed that she and Jason were getting married!

Jason had Faith brought to him and warned her to stop whatever she was planning. Faith said Alcazar was the only threat for Sonny to worry about. Jax showed up and announced in front of Faith that Sam was pregnant with Jason's baby and that Sam and Jason were getting married. Once Jason got Faith out, Jax went on to say that he would be there for Courtney, to pick up the pieces. Sam and Courtney ran into each other, and Sam tried to apologize. Courtney warned her not to hurt Jason. Continuing her bad evening, Courtney was later confronted by Tracy. Tracy said that Courtney's foundation had overlooked filing an important piece of paperwork and that a Quartermaine family favor could be called into the capital, shutting the charity down. However, Tracy would keep quiet if Courtney stayed away from Jax. Jax quietly approached the scene and listened while Tracy declared that the Aussie needed a woman of substance, not a piece of trash that used to ride a pole in a strip club for dollar tips! Jax watched as Courtney shoved Tracy to the ground!

Sam returned to the penthouse and told Jason she would go ahead with the marriage. While they appeared to be bonding because of the baby, Sonny entered and saw them close together. Sonny interrupts Sam and Jason and informs them that he does not want them to marry. Jason leaves to take care of business while Sam and Sonny argue over the arrangements. Sam reiterates her desire to leave and put the baby up for adoption, but Sonny will not consider it. He tells her that marriage, however, was not part of the deal for her and Jason, and she reminds him that he needs to trust them to do what's best for the baby.

Jax listens as Courtney and Tracy go at it. Tracy insults Courtney one last time before Courtney shoves her onto the ground. Before Tracy can attack back, Jax grabs her and keeps her from Courtney. Tracy promises to press charges, and leaves. Jax assures Courtney that he won't let Tracy bother her. Courtney thanks him, and he pulls her into a kiss. Jason witnesses the couple from a distance, and when Jax sees Jason, Jax informs Courtney of Jason and Sam's wedding plans. Jason tries to explain, but Jax continues to add fuel to the fire. Courtney isn't interested in Jax's two cents, however, and tells him to leave it alone. After Jason leaves, Jax is stunned that Courtney continues to defend him, but she presses that Jason is only doing what is right.
