DVD #8A 9/16 Steve and Shane talk about the new ISA agent that is to help them. When she arrives, and she and Shane share an uncomfortable reunion. Kim comes in and introduces herself to Gabrielle. Everyone meets Shane’s ISA partner, an old “friend” named Gabriel Pascal who will act as his lover. Steve tells Daniels about Shane’s “affair”. Daniels reports to Victor what Steve told him about Shane. Daniels tells Steve that the boss agrees with his plans for Shane. Victor likes the idea of tarnishing Shane’s sterling reputation.

9/17 Adrienne is upset when she learns Kayla is engaged to Jack. She doesn’t understand how Kayla could give up on Steve? How could she marry anyone else. Kayla tells her Steve is the one who pushed her away while Jack needs her. Shane and Gabrielle pretend to “make love” in a hotel so Steve can take pictures of them together. Steve drags Gabrielle to see Daniels as planned and they make her a deal to testify. The FBI comes and arrests Shane for espionage. Gabrielle is "dragged" down to see Daniels. Everyone hears Steve’s interview about Shane’s “affair”.

9/18 Adrienne is furious with Steve and storms into his place demanding to know how he could do this to Kayla’s sister! Angelica wants Kayla to make a statement to the press condemning Shane, but she refuses. Daniels orders Steve to get close to Gabrielle. Kayla sees Steve with Gabrielle, who remarks that Kayla doesn’t look happy as a bride-to-be. Kayla confronts Steve about exposing Shane and she says she thinks he’s lying. Steve warns Adrienne about Victor. Kayla tells Jack that she wants to get married as soon as possible.

9/21 Kim and Kayla attend Shane's hearing, as Kayla watches Steve. Steve and Gabrielle testify at Shane’s hearing. Kayla tells Steve off about all the lies he is spreading. Shane admits to the affair under oath, but denies committing treason. The espionage charges against Shane are dismissed. Steve overhears Kayla and Kim discussing her wedding scheduled for Friday. Tarrington “fires” Shane in front of Daniels. Kim slaps Shane and tells him off in front of reporters. Daniels tells Steve his new assignment is to break into the ISA with him to get the disk.

9/22 Steve tries to call Shane about Daniels plan to break into the ISA, but Daniels interrupts him. Daniels gives Victor the disk, but he’s angry that Steve had to get rid of the printout. Steve is secretly listening to their conversation and realizes Victor is the big boss.

9/23 Caroline and Angelica discuss wedding plans as the ladies gather at the Fish Market. Kayla gets overwhelmed as Angelica talks about a reduced guest list of 500! She walks outside to get some air and Caroline follows her out, worried about her daughter. Kayla complains it is starting to feel like a three ring circus. Caroline warns her this is the family she is marrying into, she will have to take time to get used to it. Kayla and Caroline discuss Shane having an affair when Kimberly is pregnant. They agree it doesn’t make sense that Shane would do this. Caroline asks her if she is having second thoughts about this marriage, she just wants her to be happy and it is okay if she wants to postpone the wedding. Kayla claims she knows how hard it would be on her parents if she backed out now. Caroline doesn’t want to hear that, she wants to know what Kayla wants to do. Kayla claims she wants to marry Jack.

Shane and Steve meet. When Shane tells him about the disk being stolen, Steve tells him that Daniels had him steal it and that Victor has the disk. S He wasn’t able to contact Shane to tell him as Daniels wanted it down ASAP and he didn’t have any opportunity to contact Shane. Steve tells Shane that he destroyed all the lab work so Victor didn’t acquire it. Victor doesn't trust Steve and isn’t sure he didn’t do this on purpose. Victor wants Daniels to watch Steve and warns him he also can’t trust Shane to be out of the picture.

Steve sees Kayla in the park looking somberly at her engagement ring. He stops and observes that Friday is the big day. He tells her that he knows she doesn’t like him very much right now, but no matter how she feels that he is happy for her and Jack. She wants to know why? He tells her that he believes she belongs with Jack, they have a lot in common. He tells her that he is living the single life like he always has. He just wants to wish her all the best, that is all he ever wanted for her. She looks at him with heartbroken eyes, hoping for any sign that he still loves her and doesn’t want her to marry Jack. She cries as Steve walks away.

Kayla heads to the hospital and finds Angelica, Neil, and Jo gathered in his room. Jo tells her that Neil has offered his house for their wedding. Angelica asks to speak to her outside. She wants to know if Kayla is alright. Kayla apologizes for her behavior earlier, she was just feeling overwhelmed when Angelica talked inviting that many people. Angelica promises to handle all the details, and will do her best to keep the guest list down.

Steve then heads to the hospital and as he stares into Jack’s room as he tries to walk on unsteady feet. Jack has a flashback to their childhood together of helping Billy to learn how to walk as a baby. Steve goes in and offers Jack a steady hand when he was wobbling. He tells Jack that he is there to offer his congratulations on their wedding. Jack is puzzled as to why? Steve insists that he thinks Jack and Kayla will be good together. Jack tells him that he is better and he will be released from the hospital on Friday. He shakes his hand and wishes them all the luck in the world, as a sad Kayla watches from the window. Later, Jo comforts a heartbroken Steve as he sobs in his mother’s arms.

9/24 Kayla arrives at Neil’s and is taken aback at the reality of his home decorated and set up for her wedding. Jack comes in and tells her that he would like to spend the day with her. She adamantly says she can not. Jack asks if she doesn’t want to be with him? She excuses that she has many errands to do for the wedding. He is glad she is now excited for the wedding. Kayla goes to see Diana. Next she visits Kimberly. She runs into Shane on the docks. Shane advises her not to do anything without considering the consequences. Kayla sits alone on the dock looking at her engagement ring, so obvious she does not want to marry Jack! (Why on earth does he want to marry someone that he must know doesn’t love him!)

9/25 Kayla sits in the bride’s room, staring off into space lost in thought. Caroline comes in chattering away. Kayla is somber and Caroline chalks it up to nerves. Kayla says she can’t believe that by tonight she will be Mrs. Jack Deveraux. Angelica comes in bubbling over with happiness, though Kayla looks like she is going to a funeral rather than her wedding. When Kim comes in, she wants the day to be all about Kayla as it will be one of the happiest days of her life.

Adrienne finds Steve on the docks and demands to know if he is going to stop this wedding? She warns him that Kayla does not love Jack and he can’t let her marry him! Steve wants her to stay out of his business. She knows if he had more time that he would realize he loves Kayla but if she marries Jack, he will lose her forever. She begs him to think about it! Steve shows up at the Deveraux’s and tells Jo that he has a wedding present for Kayla. Jo begs him not to cause trouble today. Harper comes in and demands to know what Steve is doing there. Jo says he is there to see her and pulls him into another room. She does not want him to see Kayla, that it will just make it worse and why does he want to torture himself.

Kayla finally alone stares at her ring and imagines Steve coming in and telling her that he can’t let her marry Jack. He tells her that he tried to let her go but he just can’t, and he kisses her deeply. He tells her he is going to take her out of there, past all of those people, and if anyone doesn’t like it they can go to hell…. cut to Steve, or is it his imagination? He turns to go find Kayla, and Jack comes in and wants to know what Steve is doing there. Steve gives Jack a wedding present. After Jack leaves, Jo suggests that he leave out the back door so he doesn’t run into anyone.

Kim has a sisterly chat with Kayla about the wedding. She asks that Kayla isn’t marrying Jack out of pity, or to try and make his last days happy. Her answer leads Kim to realize that is exactly why Kayla is marrying him! Kayla assures her what a great guy Jack is. Kim says but she hasn’t once said that she loves him. Before she can push the issue further, Caroline comes in and tells them it is time. Steve walks on the dock and then suddenly turns and hurries off. Shawn goes into to see Kayla and she starts crying when he tells her that she will always be his little girl. He admits that he always told Kimberly that she was his best and his brightest and he sees now how hurtful that was towards Kayla. She assures him that she has never been jealous of Kim, she knows he loves Kim as she was his first daughter. He admits that she may just be the most special of all of his children. He knows she has a soft heart and she can be hurt so easily. He knows the patch guy hurt her, and while he thinks that Jack will be a good steady guy and be there for her, he isn’t blind. He offers that if she doesn’t want to go through with it, that he will handle everything and call the whole thing off and she won’t have to do a thing or face anyone. The wedding begins as Steve watches from the back of the room as Kayla walks down the aisle to join Jack.

9/28 Steve appears to be ready to stop the wedding as he steps forward but Jo stops him. She reminds him that he is saving Billy. Kayla and Jack are married and Steve looks as though someone punched him in the gut. Jo reaches out to him, and he turns and leaves. Steve rolls into the Cheatin’ Heart angry and ready to start a fight. Steve and Gabrielle talk about sacrifices.

Jack gives Kayla the present from Steve. She is surprised to learn that he was there earlier. Later, Kayla puts Jack off on their wedding night, as he agrees he's not up to the challenge yet. After he falls asleep, she opens Steve’s gift and finds the gold rose. She flashes back to him reading her “The Rose”. At the park, Kayla day dreams that she married Steve. A drunk Steve comes upon her. She thanks him for the gold rose and he says he wishes her a happy life. After she leaves, Steve sits on a park bench and cries as he yearns for her.

9/30 Jack and Kayla move into the old Colville mansion. Jack is dreaming of being romantic in bed with Kayla, but turns out he is just dreaming and Jo wakes him up. Later when Kayla returns home, Jack is sound asleep.

Just as Justin is telling Steve that his sister isn’t going anywhere with him, and calls him “Pretty Boy”. Justin reassures him that it is a simple business trip and it is up to Adrienne. Steve knows what the family business is all about and he doesn’t want her anywhere near that. Justin tells him that he loves Adrienne and she loves him and he won’t let anything hurt her. Steve declares that Adrienne is not ready to go on a trip with a man. Justin says they have separate rooms. Steve isn’t buying it and calls Justin a player as he has seen him with the ladies.

Adrienne is attacked at the clinic but Steve comes in just in to time to save Adrienne, but she’s traumatized by the event. Kayla comes by and Steve fills her in. She tells him about the new house but admits that she misses the loft. He hopes she is happy in her new home as he tells her she should be getting back to her new husband. He takes a moment at the door to turn and look at her before he heads out.

10/5 Shane and Steve meet in a secluded area and discuss the disk. Jack is in a foul mood over being sick, as Kayla does her best to comfort him. Kayla thanks Steve for meeting her at the hospital. She tells Steve that Jack needs his help. He wants to know what the problem is and why she came to him? She tells him that he feels that they are babying him and pacifying him until he dies. She tells Steve that Jack blew up with her at breakfast which surprises Steve. He asks aren’t they still on their honeymoon? She informs him that has been postponed until Jack feels up to it. She asks him to go to Jack and bring him back into the low income housing project to get him involved in something. Steve warns her that Jack may not want him around them.

Steve soon shows up and tells him the riverfront project hurt a lot of people when they were kicked out of their homes. Steve asks what happened with Jack’s promises to help them. Jack reminds him he has been in the hospital. Kayla tries to intervene, making excuses for Jack which gets his back up and mentions the loss of funding. Jack interrupts and says he is willing to raise the money and asks if Steve is still willing to act as a go between. Kayla says she doesn’t think this is a good idea, which he immediately disagrees thinking she is just babying him again. When Kayla leaves the room, Jack asks if this is about hanging around Kayla or if it is really about the project. Steve says Kayla is his wife now.

10/6 Mike checks Jack and he wants to know when he can make love to his new wife. Steve comes to see Jack. Kayla and he share an uncomfortable encounter. Kayla stumbles and Steve catches her and holds her for a moment as she stares into his eyes looking for any sign that feelings for her are still there. He asks her if she is satisfied as he knows what a passionate woman she is? (asking about her sex life)

10/8 Jo worries about Steve spending so much time with Jack and Kayla. Kayla agrees to go with Steve to a meeting about the housing project so Jack can continue his chemo as his doctors do not want him going out of town. When Kayla leaves the room, Jack reminds Steve that Kayla is his wife now and asks Jack to treat her accordingly. Steve says he has never done anything different.

Steve and Kayla are traveling to the out of town meeting. Steve wants to turn back due to the storm and tells her he doesn’t think they will make it. He turns on the radio and a romantic song plays. Steve loses control of the car and they wind up in a ditch. Steve says they will need a tow to get out of the mud. They take refuge from the storm in a cabin, and Kayla lights candles for light.

10/9 They light a fire to dry their wet clothes. Kayla has undressed when Steve returns with wood from the shed. He is speechless for a moment as Kayla slowly reaches for a blanket to cover up, but Steve can’t stop looking at her in the candlelight. He begins to slowly undress. Kayla finds some canned chili. It is her turn to be speechless when she turns around to find Steve is shirtless. He softly strokes her face. Kayla wants Steve to tell her why he pushed her away. When he doesn’t answer her, she calls him the worst kind of coward. She accuses that he was afraid to be happy and blew the one chance of happiness that he had. Upset, he yells at her that she is married now and so what is the point of talking about this now. He walks out into the storm as she calls him back.

10/12 Kayla dreams about her and Steve talking about how her marriage to Jack is a mistake, when he awakens her to let her know the storm has passed and they can leave now. Kayla calls Jack to let him know she and Steve are fine and on their way back. After she returns home, Jack asks Kayla about her feelings for Steve and she says she has no more feelings for him.

10/14 Steve shows up and tells Kayla that he is there to see her, he wants to talk to her. He says that they weren’t honest with each other the night in the cabin nor with Jack. He comes by and overhears and asks what is the truth? Steve tells him that something happened between them in the cabin that he should know about, as Kayla looks at him in shock. Steve tells him it's over between him and Kayla. Harper shows he has the envelope with Billy’s adoption papers. Jo realizes he stole it from her apartment. He warns her that no one will believe her. He also points out that Jack is about to launch his political career and she isn’t going to tarnish that for him. Jack tells Steve about his political campaign and asks if he will help get the vote out. Steve looks touched and agrees to help.

Dvd #8B Harper goes downstairs to put the stolen adoption papers in his safe. When Steve, Kayla, and Jack all walk in, he shoves the envelop in his briefcase. Jack declares his candidacy for state assemblyman. Later, Kayla goes to pick up what she thinks is Jack’s briefcase. It isn’t latched and everything falls to the floor. Harper walks in as she is picking everything up off the floor and stuffing it back in the briefcase. He is furious to see her snooping in his briefcase, not believing she thought it was Jack’s. We see Billy’s adoption papers have slipped under the couch. So later when Harper notices they are missing, he believes Kayla stole them back.

10/16 Justin tries to get Steve to give his blessing to his engagement, but Steve refuses. Adrienne tries to talk to Steve and he says he won’t stop her from marrying Justin. Harper tells Jo to remember their arrangement in the future. Jo says that she has no regrets as she got to know her son, Billy. Harper tells her to get out and Kayla overhears. After Jo leaves, Kayla confronts Harper about firing Jo. He insists that he didn’t fire her but she quit on her own. Kayla doesn’t believe him and declares that she will find out why he fired Jo. Kayla begins showing signs of being poisoning. She tells Jack she is tired and they both head up to their room to lay down.

10/19 Kayla goes to get some coffee and gets dizzy, as Jack wonders what is wrong with her. Harper eyes her sharply. Kayla meets Jo and tells her that Jack is getting better all the time. She asks Jo for the real reason she quit working for Harper. Kayla stands up to go and feels faint. Steve rushes to her side and catches her as she almost faints. Steve wants to take her to the hospital for an immediate check up. Harper comes in and insists on taking her home. After Kayla leaves, Steve and Jo later talk about what could be wrong with Kayla. Jo suggests if she didn’t know better that she would think Kayla may be pregnant. She says that isn’t possible with Jack’s health. Steve realizes if she is pregnant, the baby would be his. Steve later imagines himself and Kayla in bed with her being pregnant and eating ice cream.

10/20 Steve and Jack are going over some plans for the riverfront project, when Kayla tries to sneak out to go to the doctor, but is caught by Harper. Steve defends that she is a nurse when she suggests that she just has the flu. Harper has had his doctor come over to check on Kayla. His doc declares it is a simple flu. Jack is very worried and demands to know why he isn’t doing lab work.

Kayla heads to the clinic and takes a pregnancy test. Jo confronts Kayla with her suspicions. She knows that because of chemo that it couldn’t be Jack’s baby, and Steve says if she is pregnant it would be his child. Kayla checks the pregnancy test, and it's negative and she shares the info with Jo.Jo meets with Steve at Shenanigan’s. Jo tells him that Kayla took a pregnancy test but it was negative. He seems disappointed that she isn’t pregnant. She tells him it would have been a nightmare if she was pregnant, and thank goodness she isn’t. Back at the Deveraux’s, Harper is very solicitous and happily gives Kayla a cup of tea. He then follows her around making sure her tea cup doesn’t get mixed up with Jack’s and seems happy when she drinks it.

10/21 Jo is waiting for Steve outside his place and she demands to know where he is going? He tells her he is going to play pool. She tells him that it is Andrienne’s engagement party tonight. When he tells her that he knows, but isn’t going to go, Jo demands he go get cleaned up. She refuses to allow him to ruin her evening by not showing up.

Jack and Kayla attend Adrienne’s party, and soon Jo and Steve show up. They are all seated together as Angelica throws barbs at Jo. Adrienne tells Justin that this party is a disaster. Justin makes a toast inviting everyone to join them for their wedding in Greece. Adrienne invites Melissa and Kayla to be her bridesmaids and they of course say yes, as long as Jack can go. Harper takes the opportunity of pouring Kayla champagne to drug her again. As her and Jack are dancing, Kayla begins to not feel well. Harper notices her and cuts in to dance with her and gets her to sit down. He asks her to drink more champagne as it will “life her spirits if nothing else”.

Cute scene as Steve and Jo dance and he cracks her up. Jack comes over to ask Jo to dance, and Steve goes to sit at the table where Kayla is sitting alone. Steve says he wishes they could bottle what she has. She is puzzled, and he explains how wonderful Jack looks. Steve walks Jo home. She thanks him for coming tonight as he knows how much this meant to Adrienne. Jo points out that it has to be hard on him to see Kayla and Jack out like this. He says seeing Jack so happy that he knows he did the right thing. Jack tries to get Kayla to dance but she begs off, as Steve looks at her. Back at home, Jack tries to get romantic with Kayla, though she seems to freeze as he tries to kiss her neck. She then passes out and Jack calls for a doctor.

10/23 Steve and Jack are working and a very disheveled Kayla comes down the stairs. When Jack goes to make her some tea, Steve sits next to her and wants to know what is going on with her? Steve tells Kayla he’s never seen her look this bad and does not believe this is being tired or the flu. She says that Harper’s doctor checked her out this morning and said she was just over tired. He isn’t confident in Harper’s doctor and tells her he has seen in her many circumstances but never like this. Harper interrupts and wants to know what Steve is doing. He then states that he does not believe the two of them should spend time together. He says now Jack is running for office, he does not want the press to get wind of her past lover. He asks Steve to stay away from Kayla when he is here working with Jack. Steve tells him no one is going to tell him who he can see or talk to.

Kayla interrupts and says that Harper is right, and she doesn’t want to do anything to hurt Jack’s career. Jack declares that he is going to take Kayla on a honeymoon so they can relax. He believes she is just exhausted and has been under two much pressure. Later Harper and his doctor conspire. Harper demands that he prescribe medication for Kayla. Melissa comes in with Kayla’s new prescription from Harper’s doctor friend. Melissa booked them on a flight to St John’s (Virgin Islands) to their own private bungalow. Harper gives Kayla her “medication”.

10/26 Steve comes in and overhears Jack say to Kayla how excited he is for this to be their first time together. Jack and Steve go into the study together. Caroline and Shawn stop by as she is worried about her. She tells them about going on vacation. Caroline does not want her to go on vacation, she can see she isn’t well. She wants her to come home with her and she will take care of her. Pop agrees that they would get her healthy and gets her to agree. Harper interrupts their planning as he overhears Kayla agreeing to going home. Harper assures them that he has had his own personal physician to treat her. He has approved the trip and even prescribed her medication to take with her. Caroline is uneasy and questions the doctor not finding anything wrong with her. Harper talks Shawn into believing the trip is good for her, while Caroline still doesn’t like it.

Harper is urging Jack and Kayla to leave immediately for the airport. Jack asks Steve to go with them so they can finish discussing their business. Steve is reluctant to impose on the start of their honeymoon, but Jack talks him into it and Kayla agrees. Jack gets out to get them checked in. While Kayla is getting out of the car, she drops her purse and as she bends down to pick it up, her and Steve lock eyes and have a moment. He asks if she is sure she is up to going on this trip. She says she has to be as Jack is really looking forward to it. After Kayla has left to join Jack, Steve notices she left her toiletry bag and races to get to her before she boards the plane. The attendant tells him it is too late, the airplane doors have already closed. He sits in the waiting room and eyes her toiletry bag, which just happens to have her prescription from Harper’s doc and a bottle of her perfume. He smells her perfume somberly.

10/30 Steve runs into Melissa and asks if she has heard from Jack?She says no, after all they are on their honeymoon. Jack calls Steve at that moment about the housing project. He says they are having a great time in the Carribean and he wants Steve to get some papers from Melissa and have his father sign them. Jack tells him that Kayla is better than ever (Matthew Ashford takes over the role of Jack). When Steve tells Harper and Angelica that Kayla is better, Harper calls Dr. Jergens to find out why Kayla isn’t showing more symptoms yet. The doctor assures him the meds he gave her should kill her before she is to return to Salem (not knowing she left her meds in Salem).

11/3 Steve tells Shane he's getting restless and wants to know exactly what the ISA has on Victor. Shane walks in on Steve and Gabrielle arguing about Victor.

11/5 Jack wakes Kayla with a kiss, as she continues to act uncomfortable being alone with him. Kayla answers the phone when Steve calls for Jack. They make awkward conversation as Jack is trying to kiss her, feeling romantic and her trying to avoid him. Steve tells Jack there is a big problem with the grant for the riverfront project. Steve says his father won’t help that it requires Jack to cut his honeymoon short to take care of it. Such a joy to have Matthew as Jake, he just has an energy and sparkle.

11/10 Steve talks to Gabrielle and learns Shane went to Greece early. He is not at all happy and feels they are leaving him out of planning.

11/11 Jo tells Steve that Adrienne is having second thoughts about the wedding. She asks Steve if he knows what is going on? Steve says it is probably about the big “K”, Victor. Steve really thinks something could be wrong and he just hopes nothing happens before they get to her. Steve warns her that Kiriakis is a crook and he could be in some serious trouble over there and Adrienne could get caught in the middle. She worries but then points out that Justin is with her. Steve snarks that he doesn’t trust HIM!

Jack asks Kayla if she is ready to leave for Greece. She feels faint and tells Jack she can’t go. Kayla has relapsed, but Dr. Jergens tells Jack it could be psychological. Jack confesses that he knows why she married him. He knew that she didn’t love him the way he loved her. He suggests that maybe this is his fault from the pressure he put on her that he would live for her. Jack wonders if he should let her go to make her happy. He asks her to think about it and just rest. She asks him to see Melissa and she needs to talk to her. Harper tells the doc that he will stay home with Kayla and not go to Greece. He figures soon she will be DEAD!

Kayla dreams that Steve told her to get better because he loves her and can’t do without her. Kayla asks Melissa to give Steve a letter since she she is too sick to go to Greece.

11/12 Steve arrives in Greece and Adrienne is thrilled to see her big brother and runs into his arms. He wants to know what is bothering Adrienne, as Justin asks the same question. Adrienne talks to Steve about her feelings for Justin. The guests arrive for a luncheon in Justin & Adrienne’s honor, Shane & Kim, Diana, then Jo and Steve arrive. Steve tells Shane that he thought they were working together on this. Steve tells him that whatever Shane is working on it has his sister scared to death. At the end of the party, Victor drags Justin off telling them that it is a custom in Greece that the bride and groom do not see each other the night before the wedding. She is desperate to talk to Justin. Steve demands that she call the wedding off. Adrienne declares she will find some way to talk to Justin before the wedding.

11/13 Kayla is sicker and Jack sits with her. She calls out for Steve and Jack hears her. He then goes to get Steve, but Harper stops him. Harper reminds him that Steve is the one who hurt her, and bringing him here could do her more harm that good. He agrees to wait while Kayla is sleeping but vows that he will ask her when she wakes and if she wants to see Steve then he WILL go get him. When Kayla wakes up, she tells Jack she doesn't want Steve to know she is sick. Harper is sitting with Kayla and her drugged tea. He is frustrated and tells her as she sleeps that he is tired of her “lingering”! (He wants her dead already).

Melissa tells Steve about Kayla not coming to the wedding since she is sicker. Melissa gives him the letter from Kayla. Steve goes to sit in the beautiful church and reads the letter. Kayla proclaims her happiness with Jack. Steve looking handsome in his tux walks Jo to her seat. The bridesmaids ask Steve where Adrienne is? He tells them to walk real slow down the isle, as the wedding begins. At the end, there is still no bride leaving the gathered guests wondering if she will show up.

11/16 Harper continues to drug Kayla with some tea laced with the drug. A sad Justin stops the music when his bride doesn’t enter the church. Then suddenly, Adrienne appears in the doorway on Steve’s arm as he walks her down the aisle. The wedding proceeds and Justin and Adrienne are married. Next they party at their reception and Adrienne throws her bouquet right at Jo, as her and Neil look at each other. Steve catches her garter. Note: This wedding is LONG and most of the episode. I choose to just add in a few minutes as Steve is shown in the crowd but very highly edited and not complete for their full wedding (which is available on a complete episode dvd separately).

11/17 Shane calls Steve to meet with him. Roman, Shane and Steve meet and plan their next move. Steve has to get back to Salem. Roman is surprised that Steve isn’t sticking around for the kill. He responds that he has to check on something personal.

11/18 Steve tells Gabrielle that Shane went to England and that he’s worried about Kayla. Jack announces to Harper that he is worried about Kayla and he wants to call Neil to check her out. Harper insists that he will fly a specialist in. He calls his doctor friend and warns him that he wants this over with NOW, Jack wants to call in another doctor and that can’t happen. Harper flashes back to finding Kayla with his briefcase, and just afterwards Jack’s adoption papers that he stole from Jo were missing. Is this why he poisoned Kayla. Melissa finds the adoption papers under the couch. Steve arrives and Harper tells him that he can’t see Kayla as she is sick. Steve nows that and demands to see her right now! Harper grabs Steve’s arm and tells him that is impossible as Kayla is sleeping and can not be disturbed. Harper agrees to go ask Kayla if she wants to see Steve, he doesn’t think so.

Melissa arrives at Steve’s place and tells him that she would like to talk to him about Jack and Kayla. She has questions about his break up with Kayla. She knows that he and Kayla really loved each other, and he pushed Kayla away right when Jack was sick and needed her.

She knows that Steve pushed Kayla right into Jack’s arms and asks why we he do that? He asks her why she is asking these questions. She points out that he knew that Jack loved Kayla and that if she married him, it might give him the will to live. She needs to know what is going on now. First Kayla gives her a letter to give to Steve, but then he hops on the first plane out of Greece and shows up at the Deveraux’s to see Kayla. He agrees that it is her business as he knows that she loves Jack. She is looking for something in that letter to give her hope for a future with Jack. He declares that he did not push the two of them together, they are married and there is nothing they can do about that. She says she was so sure (that Jack is Steve’s brother and that is why he pushed Kayla towards him, to save his brother’s life - all left unsaid). After she has left, Steve smells Kayla’s perfume and wonders what is wrong with her, as he stares at her bottle of pills that she dropped and Steve found.

11/20 Caroline pauses as she walks by Steve’s and admits she was hoping to run into him. She asks if he has seen Kayla lately since he has been working with Jack. She tells Steve that that no one in the family has been able to see Kayla in weeks since she got back from her honeymoon. He gets upset and doesn’t understand why they wouldn’t have gotten in to see her. Caroline says it was just timing, that one day when she went to visit, the doctor had given her something to sleep. She says that Harper says she is getting better, and she just needs sleep as she is really fatigued. Steve is even more concerned now and promises that he will get in to see her and find out what is going on.

Jack is very worried about Kayla who is really sick and goes to make a call as he wants to take her to the hospital. Harper stops him from making the call and won’t let Jack take Kayla to the hospital. He wants her to go to a private hospital where his doctor friend is on staff. Harper calls his doctor friend again and tells him it is time to put Kayla in his private hospital tonight before Jack moves her to University hospital in Salem. They can’t have another doctor examining her.

Steve calls the Deveraux’s and Melissa answers the phone. She tells him that Kayla is not doing so well, she is really sick and they are taking her to a private hospital later that night after the fundraiser. Steve is shocked when Melissa tells him that she hasn’t seen Kayla since before she left for Greece, when Kayla gave her the letter. She was really sick then and Jack says she is worse now. Melissa says her medication worked great while she was away. Steve realizes Kayla didn’t take the meds while they were on vacation as she had lost them. Steve asks Gabrielle to get the ISA to check Kayla’s meds ASAP. Steve paces desperately worried. She soon returns and confirms the pills are poison! He refuses to tell her whose pills they are, then demands she find out what the antidote is and races out.

While the Deveraux’s are busy with their fundraiser, Steve sneaks onto the lower patio, and climbs up to the second floor. As he is on his way, Kayla dreams of her memories with Steve in a great montage. He then enters the room and is shocked to see her poor condition. He holds her with tears in his eye at what they have done to her. He picks her up and takes her out of that house!

11/23 Steve is caught by Harper carrying Kayla out of the house. Steve tells him that he is taking Kayla to get help. Steve gives him the choice of either Steve will take her down the back stairs nice and quiet or he will go right through the main living room where Harper is hosting a party with all the reporters in Salem. Steve declares he is taking care of Kayla now! Steve brings Kayla to the hospital but she is recognized as she is admitted. One of the doctors declares he has to call Senator Deveraux right away and let him know Kayla is there. Steve realizes he made a huge mistake bringing Kayla to the hospital. He tells Alice he has to get her out of there and needs her help. She doesn’t understand but he asks her to help him. He begs her to keep Kayla safe, that if they don’t do this then Kayla could die. He asks her to keep Dr. Jergens and the Deverauxs away from her. She agrees that she will do so.

He gives her the name of the antidote and asks her to get this medication. He says that he knows she has no reason to trust him. She argues that she does as he risked his life to save her but she wouldn’t just be doing this for him but to helps save Kayla. She agrees as Dr. Jergens arrives. Alice greets him and takes him off to see Kayla. Later she apologizes for giving him the run around after they have checked the lab (twice), the emergency room, and says they have been all over the hospital. She is called away to talk to another patient. Jergens calls Harper and tells him that he can’t find Kayla as they are giving him the run around. Harper declares he will take care of it. Jack tells Harper that Kayla is missing. He finally tells Jack that Jergens checked her into the hospital.

Steve asks Gabrielle for help in finding a safe place to hide out. He states that he never asks anyone for anything. He begs her to trust him, and points out that the ISA owes him. She gives him the keys to her new place that she hasn’t moved into yet. He tells her that she maybe saving a life! When Steve returns to the hospital, Alice tells him where she has Kayla hidden. She gives Steve the pills he asked for and then points out that this is an antidote for poison! Steve hides in her room as Harper and Jack arrive. Alice stops them and tells them that they just took her down to the lab for more tests. Jack wants to wait in her room, while Harper insists on finding her in the lab. Alice sweetly agrees to escort them personally. Steve sweeps Kayla up in his arms and takes her out of the hospital. When Harper and Jack arrive back up there, Alice is apologizing that she must have been in her room. Another nurse comes out telling Alice that Kayla is gone! Harper grimaces, “Johnson!” under his breath.

At Gabrielle’s house, Steve softly touches Kayla’s hair. He tells her that the antidote will take affect really soon. He tries to give her a drink of water but she passes out before she can even take a sip. Steve tries to wake her up, desperately worried about her. Then decides to just let her sleep and let the medicine work. He lays down next to her, promises he will get her through this.

Dvd #8C 11/25 Steve brings a cool cloth and wipes it all over her as she moans. He talks sweetly to her as he pours cool water over here. He cries as he asks her how that feels. He takes her in his arms and sobs as he begs her not to die. Steve finds Alice at the hospital and he tells Alice the antidote isn’t working, that she is worse. He begs her to find out what out what else they should do. She agrees to help him but doesn’t think they should meet her at the hospital. She offers to come to wherever he is staying. He says no that he can’t risk that. He suggests they meet at Bo & Hope’s old place underneath Shenanigan’s.

The Brady’s arrive at the Deverauxs and they all meet with Abe. Jack suggests that Abe talk to Steve, that he might know something about Kayla’s whereabouts. Later she arrives with her identity concealed by a cloak. She tells him the medicine is the best treatment but that it just takes time. He is rushing back to Kayla as Abe arrives to talk to Steve. He is quite surprised to find Alice there. She declares she came by to find out when Adrienne is returning home from her honeymoon so she can bake her a batch of donuts. He laughs about her donuts for every occasion (reference to her breaking Roman out of jail back during the Salem Slasher storyline).

Abe asks Alice if she knows anything about Kayla’s whereabouts, pointing out she was on duty the day she was brought into the hospital. She honestly declares that she did not see a thing. After she leaves, Abe questions Steve about his whereabouts. He has a ready alibi with a waitress at the Cheatin' Heart. He warns Steve not to hold out any info on Kayla. Steve snarks that Kayla is married and not to him. He tells Abe that he wishes he could help him but he really can’t. Abe promises to be back.

Caroline arrives next, and begs Steve for information on Kayla. He tells her that he can’t tell her where Kayla is. She says he means he won’t. She begs him for the truth, she can’t stand not knowing where she is or whether she is alive. He tells her that he can’t help her. She begs him to help Kayla, that tomorrow is Thanksgiving. When he just shakes his head, she begs him to tell her that Kayla is all right but he can’t do that. He tells her that he has a feeling that wherever Kayla is right now that there is somebody taking care of her. Grateful she hugs him in relief.

Steve returns to Kayla and rushes to her side as he finds her moaning from fever. He tries to wake her up and begs her to try. She holds her in his arms and tells her to stay with him, that he loves her. He cries and begs god, “Hey dude, can I get one favor here. Don’t let her die. I love her! Don’t let her die!” He rocks her in his arms and tells her that he has her. He lays in bed with his arm around her and she comes to and calls his name. She asks him what is going on and where are they? He tells her it isn’t important right now and he will tell her when she wakes up and gets her to go back to sleep. Then he as she seems to be sleeping peacefully, he looks heaven ward and says, “Thank you!”

11/30 Steve tries to get Kayla to wake up, gently stroking her hair. He heads to the hospital and breaks into a medicine cabinet looking for more meds for Kayla. Steve runs into Jack while he is there. Jack confronts him about coming out of that room. Steve tells him to go home and ask those bozos who he hired to follow him night and day. Steve warns Jack that he does not appreciate it. Jack warns him that if he is responsible at all for Kayla’s disappearance. Steve tells him that he doesn’t know anything about what happened to Kayla, but if he did he would be taking a hell of a lot better care of her than Jack! An insulted Jack attacks Steve it is broken up by Dr. Marcus Hunter! Steve is amazed to see his Steve’s best friend from the orphanage. After introductions are made, Jack warns Steve that he knows he has something to do with Kayla’s disappearance.

Steve tells Marcus how good it is to see him. He soon enlists Marcus’ help with Kayla. Steve takes Marcus to see Kayla. After examining her, Marcus assures Steve that Kayla will live and she just needs to rest and give the medicine time to work. Steve tells Marcus that he loves Kayla. After Marcus leaves, Steve lays in bed next to her. He tells her to come back to him and that he loves her. He kisses her sweetly on her cheek and rests his head on her shoulder, telling her how much he needs her.

12/2 Kayla wakes up and reads the newspaper about her disappearance. When Steve comes in, she asks him what is going on? He is so happy to see her awake and rushes to her bedside, hardly able to believe his eyes. He asks her if she remembers anything the last couple of weeks? She doesn't know what was a dream and what was real. He tells her that someone was trying to kill her. Steve explains to Kayla that she was being poisoned, but she doesn't believe him. She tells him to take her home and doesn’t know what he is up to. She wants a phone so she can call Jack, he must be worried sick. She demands again for him to take her home. He refuses and tells her again that someone in that house is trying to kill her. She tells him that he is crazy. He tells her that he had the medicine tested, the bottle she dropped in the limo. He tells her that it tested positive for poison.

He tells her that when she went on her trip that she was feeling fine, because she was not taking the meds. When she returned home and started taking them again, she went downhill fast after being home two seconds with the “Adams Family”. He points out that Harper supplied that doctor, someone no one ever heard of. He continues that they would not let anyone see her, not even her own mother. She laughs, why would anyone try to kill her. She continues the only time anyone tried to kill her was when she was hanging out with him. She thinks that he rejecting him in the letter, that he couldn’t stand it and this is about proving that. She turns to go and he grabs her arm and tells her he is not going to let go of her. She looks at him with all the hurt of the past few weeks in her eye.

Steve begs her to believe him. She says she can’t, she is afraid to trust him. She informs him she is no longer the naive innocent girl wearing rose colored glasses. She tells him that she still loves him but no one is ever going to hurt her again the way he did, not even him. He tells her he is sorry. He tells her that she can not go back there, he couldn’t stand it if anything happened to her. He asks why would he lie about this? He begs her to stay there until he can figure out what is going on. He leaves to go get them some food and says he won’t be gone long and they can talk this out when he gets back.

Steve comes back with Marcus and finds Kayla gone. Steve questions Jack about Kayla, if he has heard from her. Kayla returns to the Deveraux house, but hesitates about going inside because of what Steve told her. Kayla walks around the docks, then calls Roman, but passes out before he comes to the phone.

12/3 Steve figures she would turn to Roman and arrives at the PD to tell Roman that they should find Kayla. Roman can’t believe it took two weeks for Steve to come looking for Roman’s help. He knows something else has been going on and demands that Steve tells him what he knows. Roman points out that he reassured Caroline that Kayla would be okay, which tells him that Steve knew where she was. Roman figures he had been hiding her and either Steve lost her or she ran away from him. Roman detains Steve. Steve points out if he knew where Kayla was, he would not be here at the PD.

Steve calls Alice to see if she has heard or seen Kayla. He tells her that Kayla is missing. Steve returns to Roman’s office and is frantic as it is freezing outside. Roman continues to push for more information, and that Jack is sure that Steve kidnapped her. Roman demands that Steve tells him right now what he knows. The trace on the call comes in, it was from Pier 18. Roman and Steve rush out. Someone picks up Kayla on the pier before Roman can trace her call. A man takes care of a sleeping Kayla. Steve goes to the hospital and fills Alice in on Kayla leaving the safe house, the traced phone call. Alice asks him to believe that Kayla will be all right.

12/7 Jack stops Steve at Shenanigan’s and tells Steve that he needs his help to find Kayla. Steve refuses to work with Jack, but Steve tells him no. Jo confronts him about it. The professor nurses Kayla telling her that he will take care of her if no one else will. Carrie and her friend see Kayla in the professor’s room. He comes to see Marcus for medicine for his “wife.”

Jo and Steve arrive at the hospital. Steve blames Justin for not protecting Adrienne and tells him if he can’t protect his wife, then he doesn’t deserve her. A terrified Justin attacks Steve and they get into fight. Neil interrupts to tell them that Adrienne is going to be okay. They all go into see her. Steve compliments that she is a lot tougher than she looks. Later, Steve and Marcus talk about their time in the orphanage. Marcus tells him how lucky he is to have a mother and a sister now! Marcus asks about his brother? Steve informs him that it isn’t all roses when you find your family, it is complicated. Steve tells him to be careful of what he wishes for. Marcus tells him he has never seen him as crazy as he was today, going after Justin in the hospital.

Steve tells him he is broken up inside thinking about Kayla. He admits he has never been so worried about anyone in his life. Marcus reminds him that Kayla is married, and asks Steve if he is going to be home wrecking? He knows Steve hasn’t let her go and asks how this happened? Steve admits that he doesn’t know if he will be able to let go of Kayla again. Steve does not know how to answer that. Marcus takes Steve to the professor’s cabin and tells Steve about him coming by the hospital worried about his “wife”. Marcus says he is there to check on his wife but he won’t open the door.

12/9 Caroline is distraught when she overhears Steve talking about finding Kayla. Steve reassures her and promises that he will find Kayla. Steve hears Jonah and Carrie talking about the professor hiding a woman and questions them about it. Steve and Marcus arrive back at the professor’s house but don’t see Kayla. Steve threatens the professor.

12/10 The professor pulls a gun on Steve and Marcus and gets them to leave. He listens in as Steve pours his heart out to Marcus about how much he loves Kayla and how hard she had to work to get him to tell her. He continues that he doesn’t know what she sees in a bum like him and he doesn’t deserve her. Steve says she sticks with him even when he has been bad to her. He had to let her go but he didn’t stop loving her, they are connected, no matter where they are if one of them is in trouble, the other knows about it. He says that no matter how sick she is, she knows he is looking for her. Steve tells Marcus that if Kayla dies, then he dies, as he can’t live without her.

The professor allows Steve to see Kayla and he and Marcus return her to Gabrielle’s. Marcus tells Steve that Kayla has an infection and gives her antibiotics. But he warns Steve that if this gets worse and turns into pneumonia that it could get life threatening and then she would have to go to the hospital. After Marcus leaves, Kayla rouses just a bit and asks him if she is dreaming but she is still out of it and goes back to sleep.

12/14 Kayla wakes up for the first time. When she realizes Steve is really there, she jumps into his arms so grateful to see him. She asks him to hold her and asks how she got back? She was afraid he wouldn’t find her. He promises her that he will always find her. He tells her again that someone is trying to kill her and they can’t know who to trust. She realizes that he took care of her, cooled her down with a wash cloth and held her. She thought she was dreaming. He asks her to never scare him like that again. She remembers him telling her that he loved her. Steve goes to get food and leaves Kayla with a gun for protection.

Deveraux press conference at Shenanigans and questions about Kayla being missing as Steve watches while he is waiting for food. When Steve returns, Kayla is shooting at Marcus, but Steve arrives just in time to stop her. He introduces her to her doctor. Later, Steve tells Kayla that he saw Harper announcing his candidacy for president. He tells her that Jack made a heartfelt plea for Kayla’s return. She says this must be difficult for Jack and suggests that she call him. He tells her that he does not want her to do that. After her shower, he softly strokes her hair and tells her he always liked her with wet hair. She offers she could call Jack from a pay phone so he couldn’t trace it. Steve says no that someone could see her and follow her back here. He asks if she wants to call Jack? She tells him that he knows what she wants as she looks into his eyes. He takes her into his arms and asks her what are they going to do?

12/16 He asks her if she ever caught anyone in her room that shouldn’t be there? She says no. He asks if she ever saw anyone suspicious watching her, like a staff member. He tries to pick her brain as to who might be drugging her. He tells her that until they figure this thing out, he won’t let her go back to Jack. She gets upset and tells him that she is not going back to Jack. She asks him how he expects her to ever go back to Jack after all of this? He reminds her that they aren’t married and haven’t done anything. She says “yet”! He tells her that if this got out it would destroy Jack’s career and he is one of the few good guys who fights for the poor. She tells him that she doesn’t love Jack and asks if he wants her to go back to Jack’s bed?

Jack and Harper meet with the guy he has hired to search for Kayla. Jack is upset that Steve was able to spot and shake his tail. He asks Jack if perhaps the reason they can’t find his wife is that she doesn’t want to be found. Harper cautions an upset Jack to keep it together, if the press find out he is losing it, will be bad press for them. She wants to know why he pushed her towards Jack. When Marcus comes in to see her, he tells her that Steve loves her. He says he will try to find out why Steve is pushing her towards Jack.

A drunk Steve tells Marcus that Jack is his brother. Steve and Jack talk about Kayla. Steve makes Marcus promise that he won’t tell Kayla about his feelings. Marcus doesn’t understand why Steve would give up a woman that he loves, a woman like Kayla, to a stranger. Steve breaks down and shares that Jack is his brother! Marcus tells Kayla he can’t break Steve’s confidence, but that he does love her. A drunk Steve sits on the pier playing his harmonica when Jack finds him there. Jack walks Steve home, worried that he could freeze to death if he passes out.

12/18 Jack and Harper want Melissa to try to find out what Steve knows. Melissa agrees to talk to Steve after Harper talks to her. Kayla shows Steve the airline tickets she has for them, but he doesn't think running away is a good idea. She wants to hide out in California with him. He tells her she isn’t going to get anywhere as her face is plastered all over the news. She is surprised as she thought he would be happy about this idea. He asks what about her family? She says they wouldn’t want her to be in danger. He could be her family, her home. She asks if he doesn’t want to be with her? She tells him there is nothing stopping him, nothing keeping them apart. Marcus tells Steve both he and Jack will lose Kayla if he keeps pushing her away. Kayla says she’s tired of begging Steve to tell her why he keeps pushing her toward Jack. He finally admits that Jack is his brother Billy and he pushed her toward Jack to save his life.

12/21 Kayla asks if Jack knows? He says no and he doesn’t want him finding out either. He tells her about them being split apart at the orphanage and he remembers hearing Billy crying. He had promised Billy that no matter what, he could count on his big brother. One day they took him away and Steve didn’t think he would ever see him again. Then when he saw him again, he was lying in the hospital bed and he was dying. Steve shares that he knew Jack was in love with Kayla. Finally understanding his turmoil, she reaches out to touch his face and goes into his arms.

Kayla tells him that he should have told her! She says she wouldn’t have married Jack and he can’t expect her to go back to him. Kayla is angry that Steve didn’t tell her the truth and pushed her into a loveless marriage. She doesn’t understand how he could have let her marry someone else. He confesses that he never wanted to hurt her. She asks what he thought she was feeling all those times they saw each other after he broke up with her, did he think she was happy? He tells her that he couldn’t let his baby brother die and he knew that Kayla would give him the motivation, the will to live. He admits that maybe he was trying to play god, and maybe he was wrong but he couldn’t let him die without trying to do something.

He shares that her wedding day was the worst day of his life. She is surprised to learn that he was there. He says that half of him was happy for Jack, and half of him was ready to lose it and stop the wedding. He says for a moment, he wanted to tell everyone that she didn’t love Jack but loved him! He wanted to get her out of there and it was so hard standing there watching her marry another man. He tells her that he loves her and he will never stop loving her. He starts kissing her and picks her up and carries her to bed. He keeps kissing her as though he can’t stop and they make love to “Your Heart Comes Out Tonight”. They lay in bed afterwards and Kayla tells him she never wants to move, she wants to stay like this forever.

Kayla determines that she can’t go back to Jack, she doesn’t want to hurt him but she can’t lose Steve. But he says she has to until they find out who was trying to kill her. She tells him she can’t live a lie anymore. He tells her not to think about it as she isn’t going anywhere right now and starts kissing her again. Cue the music montage of various Salem couples.

12/23 Kayla finds the engagement ring and asks her what this is? He admits that he was going to propose that night (when he found out Jack was Billy) and she shares that she would have said YES! They kiss Jack and Melissa overhear Marcus talking to the professor about the pretty lady that was really sick. Jack tells Melissa that he thinks they just found Kayla and follows him. Melissa tells Harper that Jack has a lead on Kayla. Harper tells Dr. Jergens that Melissa will take the fall if anyone discovers that Kayla was poisoned. Jack arrives and finds Steve and Kayla together and threatens to charge Steve with kidnapping until Kayla tells him she was poisoned. Jack warns Steve to stay away from Kayla. Jack takes Kayla home. Steve vows to get Kayla back.

12/24 Marcus talks to Steve about Kayla going back to Jack. Roman goes to see Kim in the hospital, and brings Kayla with him. Kayla tells her that Steve sill loves her. Kayla and Jack talk to reporters and Kayla sees Steve dressed as Patchy Claus. Kayla sees him and smiles at him. Kayla gets a kiss from Patchy Claus. Brady’s goes to Shane and Kim's for Christmas. Jo invites Steve and Marcus for Christmas dinner he calls her “mama”.

12/28 Harper finds a love letter that Melissa wrote to Jack but never gave to him. Harper leaves the letter on his desk where Angelica could find it. When she comes upon it, Harper acts clueless. Angelica takes it for safe keeping so Jack or one of the servants won’t find it. Jack wonders what is bothering Kayla, as she covers.

Steve goes to the Brady's and Jack yells at him to stay away from Kayla, but Steve says he's there to see him. He tells him about the poison pills Kayla has been taking, but Jack doesn't believe him. They head to Roman's office with the pills and continue to argue about them. Kayla continues to put Jack off in the bedroom, as he grows inpatient.

Jack and Kayla are talking when Steve arrives with a bottle of pills that Kayla left when she went on her honeymoon with Jack. Steve had them tested and they are poison! Jack doesn’t believe him, but the three of them go to the police station. Roman has the pills analyzed and verifies that they are poison. Dr. Jurgens and Harper are questioned by Roman about Kayla’s poisoning, joined by Steve, Angelica and Jack. While accompanied by Steve, Kayla receives a package with lingerie from Jack. Steve hugs her and says they will figure out what to do. When Jack gets home, Kayla is wearing the nightgown he sent her. However, she says that she is uncomfortable dressing like that in her mother’s house. Jack says he will wait, and goes upstairs to change. While he is gone, Kayla sneaks Steve out of the house with a passionate kiss.

12/30 Melissa, Angelica and Harper discuss Melissa’s outburst with Kayla. Angelica calls Abe about the love letter Melissa wrote to Jack, suspecting it could be connected to Kayla’s poisoning. Abe investigates and gets a search warrant for Melissa’s condo. Jack tells Kayla that he has a place for them to live alone now, her old place at the loft. Kayla takes a call from Marcus Hunter, but it’s really Patch. He asks Kayla to meet “Marcus” at Shenanigans, alone. Jack insists on going along to Shenanigans, so Marcus distracts him while Kayla sneaks outside to see Patch. He tells Kayla that she must not attend the Deveraux NYE party. They argue and he pulls her into a kiss. Kayla tells Patch that she’s going to the party and he’ll just have to trust her.

Unknown hands with black gloves are seen replacing aspirin with other pills in a bottle. Jack and Kayla return to the loft and talk about the memories it holds. Jack says “I love you”, but Kayla remains silent. Kayla slips away onto the roof and thinks about Steve. Melissa runs into Steve and Marcus before the Deveraux party. She notes that they will be so busy with reporters and supporters, they won’t know what’s going on. Marcus sees that this remark gives Steve and idea.
