DVD #6A 5/15 The Brady’s arrive for the joyous occasion of Andrew’s christening.

Steve is told he will be in a safe house for about a week while the FBI completes the sting and brings down the mob. Steve shoots Harper with a gun that was supposed to have blanks per the plan. After he shoots, Steve realizes the gun doesn’t have blanks and Harper is shot. Steve realizes he was set up.

5/18 Steve tries to help Harper, but runs when Jack, Kayla, Roman, and Abe show up. Steve gets away before the police catch him. Jack tells Roman that Steve shot his father, but Kayla says they didn’t see Steve shoot him. Steve calls Simon who tells him to meet him at the pier and he’ll take care of everything. Frankie and Jennifer run into Steve and he tells them not to tell anybody they saw him. Frankie goes looking for Steve and is there when Hopkins’ man tries to kill him. Angelica warns Kayla that if she knows anything about Steve she’d better tell Roman. Jack tells Kayla about his fond memories of Harper. Frankie distracts the cop investigating the second shooting so Steve can escape. Kayla refuses to believe Steve is a killer. Steve calls Simon, who is surprised that Steve’s alive, but says nobody will believe Steve’s story.

5/20 Upon the loft rooftop, Kayla is happy to see Steve approach. He tells her he was set up and has no place to go, that cops are everywhere with his picture looking for him. She wants him to tell her that it is true that he shot the senator. Even then she realizes that he must have had a good reason and asks for an explanation. She tells him the senator is in the hospital, in a coma. He starts to tell her that this was a set up. He rushes off when he hears Roman approaching. Roman tells Kayla he’s putting a guard on her building and a tap on her phone to catch Steve. Simon talks to someone and says they have to eliminate Steve before he tells his story. Kim and Kayla talk about her the reveal of her past life as a hooker and Steve. Steve calls Kayla and in order to protect him from the bugged phone line, she tells him not to call again and hangs up.

5/21 Frankie tells Kayla about the attempt on Steve’s life at the pier. He knows that Steve did not shoot the senator on purpose. She says he has to find him, as Jack approaches and is shocked to hear she wants to find the man who shot his father. Jack tries to talk Kayla out of helping Steve. Kayla asks Jennifer to draw out her interview with Jack to give her time so she can go look for Steve. Frankie and Jack argue about Steve. Steve hides in a barn that he and Kayla hid in once before, of course we get flashbacks. Kayla goes to the barn, but she doesn’t see Steve sleeping there behind the hay bales. She leaves him a note, but the farmer gets it first and takes it inside.

5/22 Kayla tells Jack they need to find him a girlfriend. He asks her, “Don’t you know how I feel about you”? Kayla says they are friends. Jack knows Kayla is helping Steve, as she defends Steve. Jack tells Kayla he's fallen in love with her. Caroline lectures Kayla about Steve. While hiding out in the barn, Steve has a fantasy of him and Kayla on a yacht (another brilliant use of the B&H boat that was rented - love that they thought ahead and filmed a couple of great fantasies while they had it!) He is wearing a captain’s hat and very upper crust blue blazer, with no eye patch. So he imagines he is a rich man, wooing his lady love and proceeds to kiss her neck, seducing her. Steve follows the farmer inside and retrieves the note Kayla left him. Steve calls Kayla on a pay phone as she instructed and asks her to get some things together for him, including his gun.

5/25 Kayla meets Steve at the barn. He tells her he is really glad she came as he gently touches her face. She softly shares that she can’t stay away from him. He checks out the backpack of stuff she brought him, including his harmonica. She gives him some cash, but admits that she didn’t bring his gun. He is upset that she didn’t bring it. She tells him she thinks it will make things worse. She is worried that he could shoot a cop and be in even more trouble. He points out that he shot a senator and asks how much more trouble could he possibly be in. (Sound gets a bit warbly for a short section).

Steve tells Kayla about the setup with Harper, Simon, and Daniels. He tells her that it had to appear that Harper was dead so he could go undercover and investigate the lab explosion. He tells her how they came to him, they had someone from the FBI and a doctor. He tells her the doctor was Simon Hopkins. Kayla is surprised as he is very well respected. He insists that he checked the gun himself and it was loaded with blanks, and they must have switched the bullets when he wasn’t looking. He tells her they were targeted because of the lab explosion, her included. He admits that they promised to protect her, and she realizes he did this to protect her. She says none of this would have happened if she hadn’t gone to the lab that night. He says who knows maybe that was part of the set up too? He worries that he made things worse. She shares that everyone thinks that he shot the senator in cold blood. He tells her that the guy with the braid that was after Diana (Kai) shot at him.

Kayla wants him to turn himself into Roman. He tells her he can’t go to Roman with this lame story. He tells her again that he is glad she came but it is time for her to go. She wants to stay with him. He insists that it is too dangerous for her here and she has to go. As he walks away, she says to herself, “We will see about that” (obviously with no intention of leaving him). Steve gets dressed for being on the run, and is ushering a protesting Kayla out the door. He sees the mysterious braided man approaching the barn on a motorcycle. He pulls Kayla back in and they hide. They knock him over and escape just as the farmer comes in with his shotgun pointed at Kai.

They find a place to hide and Steve blends in with the homeless population though Kayla stands out in her’s. She trades clothes with a woman so she can blend in. Steve and Kayla go on the run and Kayla changes her clothes to blend in. When Kayla reappears, Steve cracks up at the sight of her (while she does blend in, she still stands out with her shining blonde hair and angelic face). When he is done teasing her, he sweetly tells her how beautiful she looks. He asks how she likes being on the run? He gives her a chocolate bar and tells her this is her last meal on the road as she is going home tomorrow. She insists that she is staying with him. He says they will discuss it in the morning. He wraps her up in a blanket and tells her goodnight.

5/27 Steve tries to make Kayla go home, but she refuses to leave him. He tells her it is too dangerous for her to stay, too many people want him dead and are willing to shoot at him. He says he doesn’t know what he’d do if anything happened to her. He tells her that she can’t be a part of his life which is a mess right now. She reminds him that she can take pretty good care of herself, and reminds him that he told her that in Stockholm. To prove her ability to help him, she notices a group of people in costumes boarding the train. She suggests they join in the party to train as a way to sneak out of town. A cowboy tells them the train is headed to a rodeo. Steve grabs a bag to get a change of clothes.

Kai tells Simon about Steve getting away. Daniels comes in and tells them not to worry about Johnson as he has the perfect plan to locate them. Daniels introduces himself to Roman and offers his help in finding Johnson. Roman fills him in on where they were last spotted. Roman gets a tip in Brookvale boarding a private train heading west.

On board the train, they pull out a chance of clothes from the bag. Steve is thrilled to find a gun in the bag. Kayla worries about him having a gun as too many bad things could happen. Steve has found a black cowboy shirt and hat, and Kayla finds a sexy off the shoulder black saloon girl dress. Steve tells Kayla they will get off in Oklahoma City. He has to find out why they set him up or he is going to wind up dead. The train suddenly stops and the conductor tells Steve that the police stopped the train. Steve spots Roman and he tells Kayla that her brother has arrived to save his little sister. He tells her the dude with Roman is an FBI agent that set him up. When Roman and Daniels corner them, Steve pretends he kidnapped Kayla so she’s not implicated in his escape. They escape from the train after Roman agrees to let him have a car to get away in if he doesn’t hurt Kayla.

5/28 Steve can’t believe it when they are being followed by a helicopter! Kayla is upset that Steve made Roman think she was his hostage. He tells Kayla by doing it this way, she won't get charged with aiding and abetting him and she can go back to Salem, but she refuses to leave him. They hide the car under brush and he tells her to hike back up to the road and flag down Roman’s helicopter. Kayla tells Steve if anything happens to him she wants to be there. Steve tells Kayla that she is slowing him down and he is in a lot of trouble here. When she won’t leave, he gives her some clothes to change into out of the dress. She needs help getting out of the dress, and they have a moment of intense connection as he stares into her eyes after unzipping her. She tries to tell him that their best shot of help is going to Roman. He says they can’t as he is hanging out with the guy who set him up. She points out that they just have to get Roman alone. Steve tells her that she will have to do this on her own as he can’t expose himself.

He tells her that she can go talk to Roman and bring him back here so he can’t set a trap. Once Steve is satisfied that Roman hasn’t been followed, he will reveal himself. Steve pretends he is going to settle in for a nap as she heads out. Or course he leaves as soon as she leaves to return to the car. When Kayla gets back to the car, she hears a radio report that a search is planned for a 5 mile stretch of the woods with dogs. She races to get back to Steve and finds him gone. As he hides from her, she freaks out with the sounds of the forest. When she stumbles and falls, he rushes to her aid when he hears her cry out.

5/29 Kayla and Steve find a bar, where he plans to hustle a few people in a game of pool. Kayla has the “Lady in Red” fantasy as Steve plays pool. Kayla calls Roman while Steve is playing pool, but Daniels answers instead and Steve hangs up the phone. Steve tells her that if she is going to stay with him that he has to play by his rules, if not she can have Roman come pick her up. Steve is recognized and the bartender calls the police. Daniels reports to Simon that a Sheriff has reported a sighting of Steve in Whisky Junction. Simon sends Kai to take care of it. Steve gets in a brawl when the bartender tries to stop him from leaving. Kai shows up and shoots at them as they run out of the bar.

Steve points to a nearby plane and tells Kayla to get in! She wants to know who is going to fly it and he declares he will, that he has had a couple of lessons. They escape in the little plane, as Kai bursts through the door shooting at them. Kayla is excited that they escaped! Steve tells her they are losing oil pressure fast from the oil line being shot. He tells her they are losing altitude fast. Kayla frantically points out a mountain directly in front of them as we hear the sound of a crash!

6/1 Roman tells Shawn that Steve took Kayla hostage, holding a gun to her head! This confirms that Shawn always knew this guy was no good.

Wreckage scenes of the plane crash. Steve comes too and wakes up a disoriented Kayla. He tells her they are okay, sort of. Steve checks Kayla over ands Kayla’s leg wound has reopened. Kayla panics when he says he will be right back. He reassures her that he is just going for the first aide kit. He returns and nurses the nurse as she yelps in pain. They have no idea where they are. Steve lights a torch and tells her he is going to go have a look around. He assures her that he will be back as he realizes how scared she is. Soon after he leaves, a bear approaches and terrifies Kayla. He hears her timid cry for help (more of a whisper) and comes to her aid. He waves his arms and scares off the bear but falls off the cliff in the process.

Kayla finds Steve hanging off the side of the cliff and runs back to the plane to fetch some rope. Kayla saves Steve from the cliff and holds him tight in relief that he is okay. They sit in front of the fire and he holds her tenderly as “Only in My Heart” plays to a montage.(Note: I believe this is Wally Kurth singing, think Justin wrote this song for Adrienne.)

6/3 Adrienne and Jo come into Roman’s office to get an update on Steve. He tells them that Steve has kidnapped Kayla and will be charged with kidnapping her. Jo insists that this is some sort of awful mistake as Kayla loves and trusts Steve. Kayla apologizes to Steve for holding him back because of her leg, but he blows it off. He tells her they need shelter as he thinks a shelter is coming in. The plane won’t make a good shelter as there is a big hold in the back. Kayla assures him that she is stuck with a former Girl Scout. She starts giving him a list of what she needs as he takes off laughing to collect her supplies.

He makes dinner as she sets up her shelter. Dinner is ready as the storm hits. He is impressed at what she has created but she tells him that he can’t come in until he apologizes for making fun of her and the Girl Scouts of America! Steve ends up having to beg to enter her shelter as he gets soaked when the rain begins. He promises to buy a dozen boxes of cookies next time the Girl Scouts come to his door. She finally accepts his apology. Kayla points out they could stay here forever with shelter and food as long as that bear doesn’t come back. Kayla still wants to call for help but Steve says as soon as she tells anyone she is with Steve willingly, then she becomes an accessory. Steve tries to figure out how the guy with the braid, the FBI guy (Daniels), and Simon are all involved. Steve suggests that they have a powerful connection.

Steve plays a mournful harmonica. Steve and Kayla start to get romantic as Kayla points out there is no one around for miles and who knows when they will be alone together again. He tells her it isn’t a good idea. But just as he is leaning in to kiss her, the radio begins working. He hears a report that the FBI are arriving to search for them and he tells her that their time there is up and they need to get moving. Steve tells her that all the times he has seen her dressed up in fancy dresses, her hair done up and pretty earrings, that he has never seen her look more beautiful than she is right now.

Meanwhile Daniels tells Simon that with the storm they can’t get air support out to look for them but he points out that Johnson won’t be on the move either during the storm. Steve is pointing the same thing out to Kayla that they can’t search for them during the storm.

6/5 Steve returns to the plane from collecting firewood and finds Kayla missing. He goes out in search of her and finds that she is skinny dipping in a hot spring. Steve is very intent when he comes upon her bathing. She asks him to turn around so she can get out. He refuses so she says she will just wait until it is dark. He teases her that it is a full moon and then pretends he is going to hide her clothes. She squeals when she feels something in the water brush against her leg. He yells that it is a snake, punking her and then laughs at her reaction. She retaliates by asking him to help her out and then turning the tables by pulling him into the hot spring. Steve gets serious with her and says it is too bad he has clothes on and that he will have to take them off as it is going to take all night for them to dry. He takes his clothes off and throws them on the bank.

He and Kayla are getting romantic as Steve begins kissing her and tells her how much he wants her, that he has wanted her this whole time. They are all too soon interrupted by the sounds of a helicopter approaching and dive under water as the search light nears them. Steve tells her that he has to go cover up the plane and he wants her to stay put and out of sight. She is afraid but he promises he will return. He tells her how sorry he is about all of this and gives her a sweet kiss as he leaves. Kayla is terrified when she sees the plane explode and cries out, “Steve”!

6/8 Kayla rushes to the plane terrified for Steve, calling out for him. He tells her that he is fine, that he blew up the plane. She doesn’t understand that they will be sure to find them now. He tells her that maybe it will by them time if they believe they died in the crash. Steve and Kayla hide as the bad guys approach and seem to believe they may have died in the crash. The braided guy points out that if they did escape that they couldn’t have gotten far. When Steve sees them heading down the mountain, he tells Kayla they will head up the mountain and find a place to hide and wait them out. Kayla tells Steve that she sure wishes they were back in the hot springs. He asks if she didn’t get enough before, and she softly says, “Not near enough”.

They continue to hide from the searching helicopter. Steve stops Kayla when a huge snake crosses their trail. Steve tries to play snake wrangler and gets bitten. He wants to keep moving but she won’t let him, and tells him that if it was poisonous that the more he moves the more the poison will move through his system. She demands that he give her his knife and tells him that she has to get the poison out. She cuts into his arm and then sucks out the poison.

Simon reports to his boss that Robin Jacobs made it through the surgery but the disk was taken before she could learn of it’s contents. He continues that they found the plane carrying Steve and Kayla, that the plane crashed into the side of the mountain and unlikely they could have survived. We learn that Simon’s boss is none other than Victor Kiriakis! (Note: Without Bo’s more humanizing influence, Victor reverts to being more of a bad guy. While Bo is there, he would not have put Kayla’s life at risk).

6/10 Kayla is holding Steve’s head in her lab and is very relieved when he wakes up. He wants to know what happened and she reminds him that he was bitten by a snake and then got a fever. She shakily tells him that she thought he was going to die. He tells her there is no way he would let a slimy little creature like that finish him off. He wants to keep moving even though he is very weak shaky and his balance is off. He teases her that she is going to have to carry him now. He tells her with her arms around him that he could go anywhere. He tells her with her gentle touch, he can make it through. He puts his arms around her and tells her that he could stay like that forever. She replies that she could too, and they slowly start making their way.

Steve and Kayla find a honeymoon hideaway resort. She finds a newspaper with an article about the manhunt for Steve. He tells her they will have to stay out of sight until night time. They overhear the maids talking about there not being anyone checking in to this cabin. Kayla tells him it is the perfect place to hide out. He teases that she just wants to try out the hear shaped bed. They sneak into the room, and it is a red room filled with a heart shaped red bed and heart shaped Valentine pillows. Kayla tells him she needs to take a shower and wash some of this mud off of her. He tells her not to get too comfortable as they have to leave by nightfall. Kayla finds a huge tub in the bathroom and bubble bath.

A shirtless Steve finds her wearing only a red towel, sitting on the edge of the tub. Kayla starts crying that she is sorry for slowing him down. Steve tells her she saved his life three times over from the and then cleans her leg wound. She questions what was the third time that she saved his life? She observes the cliff and the snake were two times, and questions what was the third. He softly tells her that it was the day he met her. Kayla is enjoying her tub and he brings her the complimentary food basket that he found. He proceeds to feed her while she is lounging in the bath. Steve takes a bubble bath and hears Kayla making a call. He comes out of the tub and asks her who she is calling? She tells him it was the records department to find out more about Simon Hopkins but they have already gone. Steve is wearing a robe with a heart on the chest and tells her that maybe they don’t have to leave just yet. She looks hopeful of his intentions, but he suggests they take a nap before they leave. He gently brushes the hair away from her face and sings “Rock-a-Bye Sweetness” to her as she falls asleep almost immediately and he soon follows.

Justin tells Adrienne and Jo that he will cover all the expenses to go look for Steve, hotel, food, and transportation. Jo tells her that she wouldn’t allow Adrienne to take off on her own. Justin offers that she can keep track of everything they spend and she can pay him back later. Adrienne finally agrees and Jo thanks him for his help. Justin tells Adrienne not to worry that they are going to find her brother.

Victor tells Simon that Adrienne is going to go looking for Steve tomorrow, and wants him to put a tail on Adrienne, but to make sure Justin isn’t harmed. He says that Adrienne will draw Steve out like nothing else would. He doesn’t seem to care about Johnson, or his sister, and only pauses briefly when he talks about eliminating Johnson’s girlfriend (also his son’s sister).

6/12 Steve and Kayla are snuggled up sleeping in the heart shaped bed. Steve wakes up realizes they slept for 24 hours and it is the next afternoon. He sees a cop car outside the motel room. He tells her they are making too many mistakes. She points out that if she isn’t with him that the bad guys could take her and use her as leverage against him. Kayla calls the hospital to find out about Simon and learns he was a professor at CULA Medical School, but is puzzled that they didn’t have anymore information on him. Steve swipes the maids laundry basket. Steve hides inside of it and Kayla pushes him towards another cabin that has a tray of food room service food, he grabs it and returns. Steve and Kayla hide in the bathroom as the maids come in and are surprised to find the laundry cart in this room. They start cleaning the room and discuss bringing towels into the bathroom, so they hide in the shower.

Justin and Adrienne visit the crash site with their pilot, who turns out to be Kai. Adrienne has memories of Steve helping her after Duke raped her. Justin finds Steve’s harmonica and Adrienne realizes that Steve made it out of the plane alive. Justin and Adrienne arrive at the honeymoon motel and he tells her he will get them rooms for the night and they can resume their search in the morning.

When a couple comes into their room, Steve sets off the sprinkler in the bathroom to chase them away and it works. The woman says she refuses to stay in this room and wants to leave the hotel entirely as her husband doesn’t understand why she wants to just leave without telling the hotel. Alone again, they begin kissing and soon the towel drops. They make their way back to the bedroom and continue making out, but are interrupted as shots are fired into their room!

6/15 Adrienne hears the gun shots and wonders if someone is shooting at Steve? Meanwhile, Steve and Kayla dove onto the floor to take cover with Steve protecting her with his own body. They lament being interrupted yet again just as they were about to make love. He says between falling asleep and being shot at, they are never going to be together.

Steve notices all the lookie loos coming out of their room. Steve hides Kayla in their bathroom and he comes out of his room, pretending to be blind when other guests come to find out about the gunshots. He asks if anyone heard gunshots and the crowd tell him it was in his window! Adrienne is overjoyed to see him alive, and Kayla too. Steve discounts this as hunters with bad aim. Kai is observing from the back of the crow. Steve and Kayla confront Justin and Adrienne, and Steve accuses Justin of the shooter to them. Adrienne runs into her brother’s arms, thrilled to see he is okay. Adrienne tells Steve they can trust Justin. She defends Steve that she couldn’t stay home waiting to learn if he was dead or alive, and Justin insisted on coming with her and he is fronting all of her expenses.

Justin tells Steve that he has helicopter waiting and he can get them out of here. Steve tells him that coming in by helicopter that he led the shooter to them as how many chartered helicopters does he think there is on this mountain. Steve tells him if they get on that helicopter they will be dead. Kai reports in that he has a location on Steve and Kayla but lost them in a crowd. He will resume the search in the morning and not scramble around the woods at night.

Steve, Kayla, Justin and Adrienne are sleeping in the woods that night. Steve continues to give Justin attitude and Adrienne defends Justin. When Steve has a moment alone with Adrienne, he wants to know how she met Justin. She tells him that he is the construction worker she was dating. He realizes that Justin had lied to her about who he is and asks how on earth she can trust him. They argue, but Kayla stops them. Adrienne wants to call their mother but Steve opposes it as her phone could be bugged. Kayla and Adrienne talk about Steve when he walks off to do a perimeter check. Steve and Kayla lament on being interrupted every time they almost make love. He asks her what she thinks that means (like a sign they shouldn’t)? Kayla tells him when it happens for them to be together it will be special. She goes into his arms and kisses him tenderly and wraps her arms around him. 6/16 Steve asks Justin what his intensions are toward Adrienne and Justin says he cares about her. Adrienne wakes up and listens to the guys talk. Kayla and Adrienne talk about their men. When Steve returns, he reports that cops are all over the bus station and the rental car office. Justin shows up and reports that he bought a car to get them to LA. Steve is furious when he realizes that Justin used a credit card to buy the car. He tells him that can be traced and they will know exactly where they are.

Justin tells him by the time they are tracked there, they will be long gone towards the California beaches. Steve hates the idea while Kayla and Adrienne want to head to LA. Kayla points out the sooner they get to LA, the sooner they can clear his name and get him out of the danger he is in. Seeing how important this is to Kayla, he stops arguing and heads off to find Justin who has walked away. Steve tells Justin that he needs to understand that these are real life bad guys after him with real life bullets. He tells him getting the car will work but warns him not to make any decisions like this in the future without checking with Steve first. The boys roll up in the car that Steve has dubbed a peace of junk. They report they have made a truce and they are all headed to LA to investigate Simon Hopkins.

Steve, Kayla, Justin, and Adrienne are on the road and stop for snacks and gas. They all freeze when the gas station attendant thinks he recognizes Steve. Turns out he thinks Steve is a rock star and they all sigh with relief.

DVD #6B 6/18 Steve remembers his trip to California with his parents and Billy. Steve and company arrive in LA to find info on Simon Hopkins. Steve and Kayla set off an alarm when trying to break into the administration building at CULA. 6/19 Justin buys everyone CULA shirts so they’ll fit in. Steve sees the FBI guy (Daniels) who tried to set him up following them on campus. They distract him while Justin and Adrienne try to get info on Hopkins from the computers. Steve and Kayla sit in on a literature class to hide out from Daniels. Steve and friends connect Simon to a place called Kava Chemicals. Steve find’s Duke’s employment record from CULA and remembers going there with Duke.

6/22 While in Los Angeles, Kayla notices something is bothering Steve, as he thinks back to when he was a kid and was there with Duke (location scenes on campus). Kayla gets Steve to open up to her. Steve and Kayla rescue Justin and Adrienne. They share that they found a picture of Harper presenting an award to Simon. He is linked to Kava Chemicals and they discover Kava is located near Salem. They decide to return to Salem to check out Kava Chemicals.

6/24 Steve calls about the orphanage where Jo left him as he plans to visit. He won’t tell Kayla about it, so she thinks he’s planning on running and leaving her behind. Steve’s memories of being left at the orphanage. Steve tells Kayla that he’s let her get closer to him than anybody else. Steve tells Justin that if he doesn’t make the bus to go on without him and to keep the girls on the bus no matter what. Kayla tells Steve that she’s afraid she’ll never see him again if they don’t stay together. Kayla, Justin, and Adrienne leave on the bus as Kayla searches desperately for any sign of Steve. 6/26 Justin tells the girls he called the police to let them know they were almost to Salem and they rehearse their stories. Justin reminds them they have to lie to protect themselves from Daniels and keep Kayla from being an accessory, which is what Steve wanted.

Daniels tells Victor that they just made contact with Justin and he is on his way back to Salem with Adrienne and Kayla. Victor smugly says that Justin made fools of Daniels, the police and the FBI. Victor tells him to find out what Kayla is saying to Roman as he is concerned that Steve told her everything. Victor wants him discredit her if she tells the truth and to find Steve Johnson and dispose of him.

Jo is there to greet Adrienne and Jack is thrilled to see Kayla safely home. Kayla is unable to talk to Roman when is called up by the chief. She is horrified when he leaves her to be is questioned by Daniels. She lies and says Steve kidnapped her and she no longer believes his story. Afterwards she plays it cool to Jo and lies and says she doesn’t know or care where Steve is. Jack questions Kayla about Steve and she hesitates to tell him anything. Abe tells Kayla that Roman left for California. Kayla tells Caroline that she lied about Steve kidnapping her and that she loves him.

Meanwhile, Steve visits the orphanage to obtain information about Billy, but changes his mind.

Justin tells Victor the truth about Steve being set up by Simon Hopkins to kill Senator Deveraux. He thought he could trust him. Victor is casts a dark view of Steve’s motives and seems to believe he is guilty. Justin tells him that it is a secret but Steve did not kidnap Kayla, she went with him willingly as she believes in him.

6/30 Diana and Kayla paper the shelves to take their minds off their troubles. Mike tells them he’s going to find out some info on Dr. Hopkins. Kayla tells Roman about Daniels and Hopkins, but he already knows and has suspected Daniels for a while, but needs more evidence. Mike helps Diana and Kayla paper the shelves. Roman lies to Daniels about a Steve sighting and says he is NOT in CA. Roman continues to play the ruse that he doesn’t trust Steve after what he did to his sister. After Daniels rushes out. Kayla gets a call for Diana from Philip Colville but Diana refuses to talk to him. She later hangs up on him and tells Kayla and Mike he is her father.

7/2 Diana tells Kayla the man with the braid (Kai) is following her. Roman puts a guard on her. Jack insists on taking Kayla to dinner. He says he knows she doesn’t feel the same way about him right now. Roman and Kayla realize Diana is gone. Steve calls Kayla and she tells him Roman believes him. He tells her he’s in Salem and will come to her tonight.

7/6 Kayla asks Roman to give her one night alone with Steve before he turns himself in. Daniels shows up to ask Kayla more questions. Steve shows up right after he leaves. Steve finally tells Kayla about the orphanage. Steve and Kayla are having a romantic moment when Roman and Daniels arrive and arrest him, despite what Roman told Kayla.

7/7 Jo visits Steve and jail and guessed that he went to the orphanage. He tells her he decided not to find out about Billy. Kayla reams Roman for betraying her. He points out that he is a cop but she never thought he would use her. They are arguing about all of this as Daniel’s enters the room, and it looks like Roman is on his side. Kayla next goes to see Steve in jail. He said he knew Roman might be setting a trap but he had to see her. Roman tells Steve and Kayla that the arrest was a setup for Daniels and that he believes Steve’s story, but he has to stay in jail for now. Steve tells Kayla he’s going to break out of jail because he’s a sitting duck inside.

7/9 Roman calls Justin and wants him to help Steve escape so he’s not killed. Daniels confirms Roman knew nothing about the transfer as Steve is held in the prison van. Alice helps Steve escape by pretending her car stalled, while Kayla, Justin, and Adrienne help Steve escape. Alice tells Roman she’s been arrested and helps her get out. Steve insists on going to Kava Chemicals to investigate. Kayla and Adrienne flirt with Kava security guards to get information. Kayla tells the boys she and Adrienne have a date with the guards tonight at Kimberly’s party.

7/10 Steve kisses Kayla and tells her she looks too cute in her costume for her date. Surprise costume party for Kimberly. Jack questions Kayla about Steve. Steve a costume as Jack and sneaks in to spend time with Kayla. He takes her out to the patio and as he is trying to get closer with her, pulling her into his arms, she slaps him across the face, not knowing it is Steve. He takes off his hat and mask and shows her it is him. He dances with her. As Jack comes out to the patio, he is noisy about who Kayla is spending time with. Kayla introduces him to her friend, Art. He starts asking questions about how long she has known Art and where they met? Justin interrupts and pulls Kayla and Jack away. Jo comes out to the patio and tells Steve that Kayla told her he was out there. Jo tells Steve he needs a place that he can hide out, right here in this very house! She informs him that there is a tunnel in Neil’s house and there is a secret room. Kayla visits Steve in Neil’s secret room, they dance and talk about going to Kava tomorrow.

7/14 Steve hears Jack confess his love for Kayla. Steve tells Kayla says he knows Jack would be better for her, but he knows she wouldn’t be happy. Daniels catches Kayla and Adrienne at Kava and Steve messes up the car to back up their story that their car broke down. He and Justin have to walk back to Salem. Daniel’s reports back to Simon as he is lunching with Victor. Simon tells Victor they have a way to trap Steve.

7/16 Kayla takes Steve to the stables when Jack comes in. Kayla tries to explain to him what's going on, and he lets Steve go, this time. Steve tells Justin he has to go to the party or it will look suspicious, so he asks Adrienne to go with him. Steve and Kayla knock out the guards to get into Kava, but one of them was not really unconscious. Daniels shows up. Steve finds a list of stockholders names before Daniels shows up and they have to run.

7/17 Steve and Kayla escape from Daniels. Kayla tries to make it look like she never left the loft for when Daniels comes by, while Steve waits for her on the roof. Steve can’t believe some of the things Kayla has pulled off, he praises that she sure knows how to get what she wants. Steve shows Kayla the file that shows Diana is the controlling stockholder at Kava. Steve believes that Diana set them up. Kayla doesn’t believe it and declares that there must be an explanation but they will have to wait to talk to Diana, Kayla says she doesn’t know where she is and Diana might not even come home tonight.

They both observe the heat and how hot it is. She suggests that he take a shower, but he doesn’t think he should stay there all night. He takes off his shirt as Kayla watches him undress. After his shower, things really heat up between them. Steve makes a bed with blankets up on the roof, and Kayla soon joins him. Steve and Kayla make love for the first time.

7/20 Steve and Kayla wake up next to each other and she can’t believe they finally made love last night. She tells him that it was wonderful. He tells it was wonderful because he loves her and they begin kissing again. He tells her that she is so beautiful as he softly strokes her face. She tells him that she loves him so much and asks why it took them so long when they always knew it would be like this. She asks why it took him so long to want her? He shares that he has wanted her since the first time that he saw her but he never thought it would work for them to be together. She asks him what he thinks now? He looks into her eyes and kisses her deeply and they make love again.

Steve and Kayla confront Diana about being a stockholder at Kava Chemicals, but she insists she didn’t know. Steve and Kayla explain about Harper’s shooting and that Kai was after him. Diana tells him Kai is her bodyguard. Diana figures out her father bought the stock in her name. Diana tells Steve she believes him about the shooting and he should believe her too. Kayla wants Steve to trust her.
