Gia slowly sauntered down the steps in Carly's penthouse. She had just finished getting ready for her date with Nik. As she reached the bottom of the stairs Carly let out a low whistle.

'Gia honey, you look amazing' Carly approved. 'When Nik sees you, he's just going to melt'

'I sure hope so' said Gia, not quite as confident as Carly.

'Alright sweetie, go have fun, and don't forget to call me with all the juicy details' Carly said excitedly.

'Carly, are you absolutely sure you don't want me to stay?' Gia asked.

'Oh don't worry about me. I'll just haul Johnny's butt in here and complain and whine to him for a few hours.' said Carly with a giggle.

'OK, I'll be back soon, I promise' said Gia, grasping Gia's hand before dashing out the door.

'You look wonderful Miss Campbell' said Johnny as Gia headed toward the elevator.

'Thanks Johnny. I'll see you in a few hours.'

The elevator doors slowly closed until Johnny was completely out of sight. Suddenly Gia's heart fluttered with excitement, and she knew that this was definitely a good idea.

Nik finished lighting the last of the candles and sat down on the couch. He carefully examined the room. There was a small table with just enough room for two people. On the table were two covered plates, and a candle in the middle of the table. The fire was roaring and there were several other candles around the room, glowing hypnotically. There were many red roses in glass vases around the room along with the candles. There were also rose petals sprinkled around the room. Perfect, Nik thought, Absolutely perfect.

Then, interrupting critiquing of the room was a light tap on the door. He slowly rose from the couch and made his way over to the door, took a deep breath and swung it open. He nearly lost his balance when he saw what was in front of him. There Gia stood. She was breath-taking. She was wearing a long black dress with a sexy, yet subtle slit along side her left leg. The cut of her neckline flattered all of her upper body. Her long braids spilled over her shoulders.

'Wow' was all Nik could manage to say.

'Is that a compliment?' Gia asked with a sly smile.

'Yes, definitely.' Nik stuttered. 'You look beautiful'

'Thank you' said Gia. 'So, are we planning on having dinner out here on the porch?'

Nik laughed, 'No, come in Gia!'

'Oh my gosh Nikolas!' Gia gasped as she stepped in the door, 'This place looks beautiful'

'It's all for you' said Nik as he took off her coat, his hands pausing, hovering over and soon lightly caressing her shoulders.

'Thank you, Nikolas' Gia said, 'I love it'

Nikolas put her coat in the closet then took her hand and led her toward the couch. They sat down and Gia looked up at him, as their fingers interlaced.

'Gia. I have to explain everything to you.' Nik said.

'Alright'

'Okay' Nik took a breath and began to speak. 'You have done so much for me in these last few months Gia, more than you know. If it weren't for you, I would've been out of Port Charles by now, after the whole fiasco with my Uncle. You were here for me when I needed you, and I am so grateful for that. You have made me see my whole world in a different light. Gia, I didn't accept your proposal in the hospital because I wanted our engagement night to be special. I wanted it to be like a fairy-tale for you, because you deserve anything and everything the world has to offer, and I want to give it to you.'

Gia had tears streaming down her face, as Nikolas knelt in front of her and reached into his pocket. He pulled out a small black case and opened it to reveal a diamond ring that glistened in the candlelight.

'Gia Campbell. Will you do the honor of being my wife, will you marry me?'

For the first time in her life, Gia was absolutely speechless. She finally managed to choke out one simple word. And one word was all she needed to say.

'Yes'

Nikolas slid the ring on her finger and kissed her lips gently as she wound her arms around his neck. He slowly lowered her body onto the floor, never seizing his sweet kisses, and the two shared a night of love in front of the blazing fireplace, surrounded by roses and burning candles.
