Marie LeGrand Crowell
April 6, 1922 to January 8, 2003

She was probably in her teens when this picture was taken, obviously lovely, definitely idealistic and soon to meet my father.

But this isn't about them! No, its about the woman who marched in Peace Parades during the Viet Nam war, the one who made her children drop everything and look out the window at pacific sunsets and who burst into tears when she stepped foot in the Louve in Paris!

She lived through the Great Depression, handed out pamplets for the election of FDR, and remembered the names of classmates who died in WW2.

Like most of her generation, she dreamed of a more humanistic, society for her children. She belonged to that generation of women, who stayed at home raising their children. Yet she looked at the stars and taught her children to as well.

She was about 4 or 5 when this was taken, and yes, she always retained that slightly introspective look.
