 Sickbay General Information

Layout:

Sickbay is located on deck six and consists of numerous wards. The main ward is an emergency and general care area and is often referred to plainly, as 'Sickbay'.It consists of a main bio-bed with trauma/surgical support frame and three other bio-beds. The CMO's office is located here as is a small lab and dedicated transporter relay to allow for more efficient patient transport.

Across the hall is the Intensive Care Ward or ICU. Consisting of eight bio-beds in the main room and four others in the attached critical care area. A nurse's station occupies one corner. Located next door to the ICU is the Minneapolis surgical suite. It consists of three operating rooms and a prep area. These rooms contain dedicated equipment and sensors specialized for work down to the molecular level. In the adjoining corridor sections are 25 long term care rooms. They are very similar in size to enlisted crew quarters but contain large amounts of equipment.

10 of these rooms have been adapted for special quarantine and observation situations, also located on deck six are a dentistry office, a physical therapy room, a dedicated med lab and a counseling department.

Staff:

The standard sickbay staff consists of the CMO, chief surgeon, head nurse, chief counselor, four doctors (two of which have to have emergency training) nine nurses, six medical technicians and an EMH. The standard duty shift calls for two doctors on duty and one on emergency call, three nurses and two technicians. During Alpha shift the CMO is on duty in addition to the usual as is the head nurse and chief surgeon and councilor. This accounts for heightened shipboard activity.
